Jeff, I think the Hawks will go down in five. I think they will win tonight, lose Game Four, and be finished in Orlando in Game Five. Something tells me that a combination of the home crowd, and more frenzied play by the Hawks, will make a difference tonight, but, ultimately, the Magic will find a way to win Game Four, and then, there is no way the Hawks are winning a Game Five in Orlando.

Zaza made an excellent play on D-12’s last foul. I’m sure that Dwight’s blocking foul prevented a stellar array of footwork and offensive moves. Would’ve been great to see him unleash the torture chamber a la McCale if not for the foul. That wasn’t.

Completely UNTRUE! Every scoring funk the Hawks have gotten into this season starts with ISO-Joe missing shots. His defense has been average to poor. His high scoring average is due to the fact that so many plays are run for him. Joe Johnson is a fraudulent star that marketing and a dim witted coach have shoved down the Hawks fans throats. Don’t be fooled. The lack of development of this team from a maturity and cohesiveness stand point has to do with the presence of Joe Johnson.

D-hawks said it, Bosh the only realistic option at an upper echelon free agent. If at all possible I’d love to resign Joe (for what he’s showing he is really worth) and sign and trade Josh Smith for Chris Bosh. With him on board and say a coach like Byron Scott maybe other free agents will want to come here. And Scott would help entrench Teague as the starting point guard. Just saying….

To all the Fire Woodson people: How is it Woodson’s fault that the Hawks are losing to a better team? My problem with this series, is that, so far, the Hawks aren’t even playing competetively. They are being blown away on offense, and smothered on defense.

Maybe we have to accept the fact that this Hawks team has maxed out. They dont have a Dwight Howard/Kobe/Shaq/Lebron superstar that can propel a team to a championship. They are a good team of quality players, that are one of the better teams in the NBA, but not an elite one.

Dominique was here for years. He was part of several very good teams that couldnt get past the second round. Larry Bird, Kareem, and Magic were the elite at the time. All of those guys won several championships. The Hawks seem to me to be like they were for the Dominique years of the 80s, a very good team that just wasnt elite, and couldnt get past a certain point.

Bosh is 24ppg, 10.8 reb, 2 ast. A good coach will figure out somewhere to play him. Personally I would play him at the 5 with Horford moving to the 3 on the defensive end. On offense, he would probably play a bit more away from the basket with Josh closer to the basket. Bosh can at least come close to matching points with Howard. No one on the current Hawks roster can do that.

Just tuned in to the game on ESPN. Hawks look pathetic. A completely unprofessional effort. What kind of pro athlete just gives up at home? Also, the low number of comments on this blog show how little interest there is in the Hawks. Braves, lousy as they are, would have about 1400 by now.

I have defended him in the past, but Woodson is the problem. We don’t RUN an offense. Everything is based off of Joe or Jamal going one on one. We don’t get open looks because our offense is so easy to defend. The only easy buckets we get are off of the break or offensive rebounds. These playoffs have been beyond frustrating. Woodson has to go. I think we should bring back Joe because you know the ownership is not going to bring anyone in to make up for losing him. Bosh is not the answer when we already have Horford and Smith. Once again, we have seen that we have no bench besides Jamal and Zaza. Mo does not bring anything. We need to brink Childress back to be another weapon on the wing off the bench. Look at Orlando. They have Pietrus, Redick, J. Williams all contributing big minutes off the bench and we have Jamal.

I have long since given up on the Hawks. Used to go all the time in the 70’s/80’s
Had high hopes for Josh after watching him in high school but he is a a talented/ no effort child out there. I decided to watch these playoffs to see what they were really about and what I’ve seen is pathetic. If we had a real coach/organization Josh’s butt would be on the bench until he grows up and learns to play all out.

Schultz, I agree he has the talent to be a truly great player. He is easily top10 one of the best athletes in the league. But he is in what, his 5th or 6th yr in the league? He can’t shoot outside of 15 ft, has no real goto move on offense, and has no business trying to handle the ball. He is the backbone of the defense, but shouldn’t he further along offensively? Do you think he can still get better or near his peak?

Mystikal: my take on Josh is that he isn’t held accountable when he slacks off. A coaching staff has to set clear expectations and back it up when players fall short of those expectations in terms of effort.

When guys get away with stuff they know they aren’t supposed to be doing – you end up with an “effort” such as we’ve seen today.

Perhaps the right coach will help him realize his true potential.

Brian, you are so right. New Orleans has had one professional team, for the most part in 45 years. They have one championship. Raleigh, yes Raleigh, one professional team for about 10 years, one championship. Tampa, one team for 35 years, 2 more for less than 15 years. 3 championships. Atlanta 3 major teams since the 60’s and hockey combined for about 20. One championship. Thank God for Cleveland.

Brian, that’s completely untrue… the Falcons are not an elite team, but they are above average and only a couple of pieces away from competing for a Superbowl. They are building something and have proven talent making the decisions. Tossing them in the “ok” category is completely inaccurate.

After the season is over (soon), evaluate every player and coach on this team and determine if they can go higher in the playoffs with them. If the answer is no to some, look for trades and draft picks, but most important find a big defensive center that can shut down the middle against Cleveland, Boston and Orlando.

yeah, you absolutely do have to have a superstar to compete in the NBA… that’s why the NBA sucks so much. it’s not about team basketball or building a good team using wisdom and intellect… it’s about getting lucky in the lottery. that’s it.

now, having a superstar doesn’t guarantee you anything… but if you have a superstar and a semi-competent GM, you are in great shape.

that’s why i have a lot of sympathy for Rick Sund… i think he’s a good GM in an impossible situation. he can’t get anyone in the lottery, and no player is gonna want to come to a city that has a 45+ year tradition of losing and a jaded (understandably jaded) fanbase.

Brian, good question. All the teams with top, elite players drafted them for the most part. It is easier to keep players you draft because you can offer them more money. Look at Kobe, Lebron, Duncan, Dwight, Wade, Nowitzki, and so on. All of the top, elite players have pretty much played for one team. It is very hard to sign a superstar in the prime of their career. Bosh, not matter what people say, is not a superstar. He has a decent supporting cast around him, but he cannot even get the Raptors into the playoffs.

Mike has not had the help from the front office to produce a championship team. Sund should be fired because he had time to get a center to take this team tothe next level. Mike can only work with what he is given. Sund does not negotiate contracts once the season starts but other teams do. Sund please show where your reasoning has had success. You don’t have a clue what this team needs.

I would almost prefer for us to be in the lottery a couple of years. Sucks to win 53 games and get swept by elite teams 2 years in a row. Luck has to be on our side for once.

Harpie, in all seriousness, i WISH what you were saying were true… i really do. I think the NBA would be way more fascinating if it were about team basketball and not superstars. But that’s just not the reality of it.

Brian, i agree, the # of championships we have won (or haven’t won) keeps me up at night. I truly believe this town has a sports curse on it unlike anywhere else (except maybe Cleveland or Seattle). It’s all about ownership – we’ve had 2 good owners in our history. Ted Turner and Arthur Blank. One gave us the Braves of the early 90’s, the other is giving us a very exciting Falcons team.

You guys who keep saying the Falcons suck or are average obviously don’t watch them very much or follow what they’re doing in that organization. Things are absolutely headed in the right direction in Mr. Blank’s neighborhood.

And we call the Hawks a playoff team? What an abomination! Again, Bibby, Williams and Johnson did not do a thing. How can a team spend millions of dollars on a team and this occur? I think Johnson is trying his darnest not to get resigned with the Hawks because he has stunk thru this process. Williams and Bibby have stunk all year. Why they ever resigned them is way over my head.
They have Smith and Crawford and Horford. They need a new coach to control and make Josh grow up and be able to fire up a team. What a damn ugly sight this team is. If I were playing on the Hawks, I would hang my head very low. They really suck bad.

Vick, relatively speaking the Falcons are an exciting team. They are certainly not as exciting as they were a few years ago though. Yes, Vick was a very exciting player no matter what people say about him. He was very fun to watch.

This series is over. I’d say there is a 90% chance the Hawks are going down in a sweep. To lose by 30 points in a must win game, on your home floor, when you’re already down 2 games in a series? No.

My original “Orlando in five” prediction that I posted on Mark Bradley’s blog at the beginning of this series, was based on my feeling that the Hawks would win Game Three. They have lost Game Three, in humilating fashion. They have shown no reason to think they will not do the same, in Game Four.

For those people who keep saying things like “It’s not Woodson’s fault, guys. The players just aren’t competing…”:

When the players are lacking in effort, you need a coach who can light a fire under them. You don’t get rid of an entire team that underachieves but keep the coach. That makes no sense unless we’re talking about a Hall of Fame caliber coach…but that’s not the case here.

Another emotional jerk job of a season from the Hawks comes to the end. Fans threw in the towel after watching their team do the same. Why should the fans care when their team doesn’t?
Joe Jackson has suggested that he may not been here next year. I like Joe, but he is not worthy of superstar dough. Let him go. Not worth it. Mr. Woodson also should be shown the door. Get a top shelf coach who has competed for a championship.

This was disappointing today. I just don’t know what to say. Can ANYBODY tell me what is it going to take to win a championship? If Joe leaves what do you do? sign J-Chill I mean who’s out there. If Mike Woodson leaves who do you get to coach these guys? Byron Scott is available, I don’t who else is a championship coach and will demand more out of his guys. Can anyone here on this blog? I can’t boo this team because it’s over. this team has to know that when they play their last game Monday night, it will be their last game together. Many of the coaches and players will be gone to other teams or other places next season..

In a way it is the sad end of not only a season but a dream of what this team could have been.

To those who monday night will be the end of the road for you as an Atlanta Hawk I wish you well on your journey.

Mr. Sund the makeup of the Atlanta Hawks next season is on you. I truly hope you are up to the job and the challenge. This team has to change. Not only coaches but there has to be a change in players also.

Got a question for you Hawks fans. Why were fans at the arena booing Dwight Howard? He’s a home town guy. I think the energy would’ve been better used trying to cheer on your team. Oddly enough by halftime, the boos were redirected to your own team.

Now to the actual games. The problem with the Hawks is there’s just too much 1 on 1 and not enough team ball. Whether that’s the coaches offensive scheme or what the players do when things don’t go right, I don’t know. Unless they can figure out how to move the ball, the Hawks will always just be a decent team, not an elite & will never make noise in the playoffs.

vick supporter, I totally disaggree with you young man. Fans will fill the stands every night if you put the right product on the court. To be honest with you, Al Horford and the Jamal Crawford are the only two players on that team I care to watch. Joe Johnson, Josh Smith and Marvin William are all low IQ basketball players and I could careless if they came back next season.

It’s about time for this organization to start bringing in high IQ basketball athletes and coaches who has been part of a championship organization. I prefer a coach who played on a championship team as a player(Avery Johnson or Byron Scott). We neen to draft smart atheletes(Paul George-SF, Gordon Haward-SFand Luke Babbitt-SF). NO MORE LOW IQ BASKETBALL PLAYER.
