We’re LIVE from Hawks-Bucks (and tickets for 98 cents?) (Update: make that 89 cents)

It appears the wagon train from Milwaukee made it in time for the game. (Curtis Compton/AJC)

And another thing: There will be no Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons. (Curtis Compton/AJC)

For those of you not preoccupied with the Dogwood Festival, Freaknik, Braves-Colorado, the Sweetwater 420 Festival or general vegging on an absolutely perfect Saturday, welcome to what many of us look forward to most: playoffs. (Actually, vegging on a Saturday is nice, too. But I wasn’t given that option.)

The Hawks and Milwaukee tip off at 5:30. This is their third straight season in the playoffs but it’s the first time since the late 1990s that expectations have been this high. Two years ago, most were just happy the Hawks reached the postseason. Last year there was some question whether they would make it past Miami in the first round. (Indeed, the series, went seven games.)

These playoffs are different. Players genuinely feel they can go on a memorable run to the finals. That includes getting past probably Orlando in round two and Cleveland in the Eastern Conference finals.

Longshot? Maybe. But that’s how you want players to think.

“Ultimately, if we were to win a championship, the city would be flipped inside out,” guard Joe Johnson said. “I think people here are deserving of it. It’s a long time coming.  It w0uld be amazing. That’s pretty much all I can think about.”

For those who missed it Friday, I wrote a piece with Johnson in which he had some interesting comments about the importance of him coming through in the clutch this postseason. Here’s the link.

One last thing before we get into the pre-game banter. There has been a lot of talk this week about potentially low attendance and slow ticket sales. For what it’s worth, a Hawks’ spokesperson told me tonight’s crowd will be over 17,000 and that the game could sell out (capacity 18,729).

If you’re still thinking of coming to the game, you can probably get in pretty cheaply. I was tipped off by alert reader “Robbie” that tickets were available on StubHub Friday for as low as $4.99. Actually, they’re even lower than that now. Just checked and there are a limited number of  upper bowl seats ranging from 98 cents (you read that correctly) to $6 (and you read that correctly, too).

StubHub does have a $15 game-day, pickup fee (for the entire order) on top of that. But even two tickets at 98 cents plus $15 fee is only $16.96.  Yikes.

(UPDATE: StubHub has dropped some tickets to 89 cents. Not going to update this anymore, but just wanted to bring you up to date.)

I’ve always believed that if more games are blacked out or made less available and less often, the building would be full more often. The same (IMO) goes for the Braves. The fewer games you have on tv for “FREE” the more you will have there in person.

The quality of TV now a days with (HI-Def) has really made the need to go to games in person less of a need – especially with all the bad traffic you get hung up in…Thats just me.

GO Hawks..I m hear cheering for you…from the comforts of my home, my adult beverages and I don’t have to worry about “last call for alcohol, high beer prices and cops looking to bust me for drunk driving.

Give the Tickets away! WHO CARES. Hawks and Thrashers leave town! If the Braves don’t make the playoff then send them packing too. We have the Gwinnett Braves, the Gwinett Gladiators, GT basketball, GT football, GSU basketball, GSU football. Over paid pros ain’t worth watching. P’ Dawg, you’re pathetic. Not only are you a racist moron, but your poor social skills have you relegated you to following blogs on issues you admittedly care nothing about. How sad is that? I mean, I hate MLB, but I’m still half interested and I sure as hell don’t blame the problems on the white fools (Selig and the owners) that have all but ruined the game for me. As for the NBA, though Stern does his best to screw things up, there is a semblance of a salary cap and fair playing field. So, there is always the potential for a team like the Pistons a few years ago to rise up and play some proper ball. I like Atlanta’s game, for the most part, and I’m rooting for our boys.

It’s gotta be a whole lot more fun than being a Yankees fan!

I still can’t get over how awful Marvin Williams is. He was at least serviceable the last couple years. Now he is utterly useless. What an awful re-signing. We should have gotten Delfino or Matt Barnes for a year or 2 at much less the price. Now we are stuck with his duck butt for 4 more years after this at 7.5 mil per.

That money could have gone towards wooing D. Wade. He just doesn’t seem to care and is flat out pathetic. The Marvin and Shelden picks are what have kept us from being legit title contenders.

Also, we missed out on Durant by one pick. I love Horford, but once again the ball didn’t bounce our way. Imagine a JJ Durant Smith, 2-3-4 combo.

Where is John Drew when we need him? Damn he lost in an elevator with a bag of Coke.

Barry is definitely a hawks hater. All of a sudden a 10 point win becomes an ugly loss. Cleveland was also up big in the 1st half and let chicago cut it to 7 in the 4th which is exactly what the bucks did.

Yet Cleveland played a great game and LeBron is a beast. ESPN is a disgrace.

Hawks will this game and still should win the series. But Game 1 not as impressive as could have/should have been. When inside offensive game was shut down, half-game offense went with it, Bucks came back.

Waashaun, you are right. Cleveland let the bulls get back in the game too.

I meant ugly win. You didn’t hear them saying the Bulls now have confidence in game 2 becsause they cut the lead to 7 in the 4th quarter. The fact is, the hawks still get no respect and will have to earn in against Orl.

Washun, you are exactly right, the two games were almost identical, but yet we are to be more concearned about the Hawks, Lebron walked on water again.

Wesleywhatwhat — I deleted a couple of comments and warned him and he backed off. I really hate to ban people but I will if necessary. And I think I’ve banned about 100.
