As you can see, a few fans are following Tiger Woods through his practice round. (Curtis Compton/AJC)
AUGUSTA — Good morning.
See? I can start a blog with two words other than, “Tiger Woods.”
There are about 30,000 fans here and I’m almost certain everybody is following Woods. I hope Steve Stricker doesn’t take this too hard.
I’ve been out on the course, which, of course, looks phenomenal. Woods looks pretty good, too, especially for a guy who hasn’t played a tournament in over four months. I walked some of the course with his swing coach, Hank Haney, and at no point did Haney yell, “You idiot!”
As you’ve probably read, Woods is playing a practice round with Fred Couples. Nobody was sure if Woods was going to play 18 today. But he made the turn at nine and I made the turn to the work room.
Woods might actually be making an effort to improve his reputation with fans. He smiled often, joked around with Couples and even had a humorous exchange with a fan on the seventh green. When the fan yelled, “Good putt,” Woods responded, “If that was a good putt, I’d hate to see a bad one.”
OK, it’s not Henny Youngman. (”Take my putt, please!”) But for Woods, it’s a monologue.
Here’s how it will work today. Woods’ press conference is at 2 p.m. Steve Hummer and I have two of the Golden Tickets to get into the room. I’ll post a blog soon after the press conference and then follow up with a column.
If you missed it, click here to see what I believe Woods needs to say today.
Finally, here are two more words: Elin Nordegren. I haven’t seen her.

are the greens looking as fast as they used to be famous for , I loved it when the balls would almost stop and then roll for 30 or 40 feet.

Pressure, wealth and fame ruin lots of people. Getting the opportunity to redeem yourself is priceless. Hopefully he can have a lot more fun playing golf now than he did in the last few years and he can start to be the person he had built up in his image previously.

Tiger has the personality of a snail. “If that was a good putt, I’d hate to see a bad one.” That’s a joke? And isn’t he now wearing some creep goatee? Tiger was a jackass before, I never liked the guy (his insufferable berating of cameramen clicking comes to mind) and now he looks like a desperate jackass.

Greens won’t be too fast yet..Going to need some TLC with this heat..They’ll gradually get faster as the week rolls on.

Well done by the AJC, getting two spots at the one-seat-per-media-outlet press conference. I still don’t think he’ll answer any significant questions, but we’ll see.

Reporters asking Tiger questions. Well that means it will not take long at all before the reporters start trying to one-up each other and then the feeding frenzy and stupid questions will start. That should make the press conference short and sweet anyway, starts at 2:00 and will be over by 2:05.

Good to have you back, Jeff, the Snark-O-Meter was at zero too long. And more pics from Hooters and maybe a Digi-Blog from the bikini competition? (apologies to Mrs. Schultz).

Compare the journalistic criticism of John Daly to the journalistic criticism of Tiger Woods. I guess it’s okay with the newsies to cheat on your wife as long as you stay sober. Anybody smell a rat?

Is this a great country or what? TV executives have managed to make televised golf coverage [and its manifold iterations] more excruciatingly dull and insipid than ever.

What we really need is to have Judge Smails at Tiger’s presser with a good, “Well, we’re waiting” comment to his His Woodsness.

I’m headed to Augusta from South Ga for tomorrows practice round, Can’t wait to see Tiger play and also enjoy the new party atmosphere surrounding this years tourney. I think this year will be electric and the party we be in Country Club Hills this year. Ride on over Tiger, no cameras will be allowed.

Tigers mistress–the p@@@ star–Joselyn James is going to be watching his press conference live according the the CNN HLN Show “Issues.” They are going to monitor his words and her reaction. That girl is getting more and more bizarre so it should be interesting. Jane Velez-Mitchell (the host of “Issues”) didn’t hold back on her last time she was on the show–saying “What do you want? What do you WANT?!”

if the guy is an adulterer that is not big news …but to flippantly make up stories about 6th grade white kids tying you up to a tree with a rope and writing the N word on you when you were in kindergarten is irresponsible. This supposedly happened in 1981 in California..yeah right. 6TH grade kids with a rope handy to tie up a kid and parents/principal/teacher/police did nothing. It is insulting for Tiger, Barkeley’s book and the publishers to allow that statement to print without proof. If anyone is prejudice and bitter it is Tige
