Friends, I need to step away for a little while. This is a busy time in the sports calendar, but I’m sure you would agree that family matters trump all. Take care of things until I return and, as always, thanks for your readership. Jeff.
This AJC sports blogger takes things seriously when he has to, but he really would rather not

Boy, the lack of response here does not speak well for Atlanta sports fans. If the headline had made an assertion one way or the other about Paul Johnson, you’d have 37 pages of responses by now.

Which asylum, Jeff? As soon as the health care bill passes, I may join you. Or, they might put me in a gulag first, it’s hard to predict.

You’re supposed to be a reporter, so report on why you’re leaving. Presumably if someone else mysteriously disappeared or took a leave of absence, you’d dig around and reveal the reason. So, is this a family emergency or are you just milking curiosity out of routine spring break?

How convenient that you must leave when the Thrashers are pushing for the playoffs. You won’t have to write anything positive about them.
On a more serious note, thoughts and prayers are with you and yours, Jeff.

How can the ajc afford to pay all these columnists? Overall, the paper sucks and most of the writers they have are low to mid-quality hacks.
