Mark Fox's team is looking for tournament upset No. 2.
NASHVILLE — When a school does something as improbable as what Georgia did two years ago in the SEC tournament, it’s a given that almost every Bulldogs team that follows is going to be asked about it at some point.
So can you guess what subject Georgia players would rather not talk about any more?
The Dogs, hoping to replicate the miracle conference title run in 2008 — oops, there I go again — upset Arkansas in their opening game late Thursday night. Tonight, they play Vanderbilt, which is headed to the NCAA tournament. Win again and maybe these Dogs can create their own identity.
“As a team we really never thought about [2008] because we’re not that team,” forward Trey Thompkins said. “That’s just the truth. They were a different group of guys. We want people to talk about us the way they talked about that team.”
Winning three more games — over potential opponents and NCAA tournament teams Vanderbilt, Florida and Kentucky — remains a long shot. But the 2010 Georgia team and the ‘08 team have at least one thing in common: Mental toughness. This squad doesn’t seem to care about seeding or expectations.
“We’re not worried about seeding because we know how strong we are and how we’re going to fight,” Thompkins said. “I guess it’s good that other teams know we’re going to fight, too, because they’re going to give us their best punch and that’s what we want.”
So what are your thoughts on tonight? Does Georgia win and move on to Saturday, or does it end here?

Jeff – the headline to one of your ‘previous posts’ links above reads ** Georgia drills Kentucky — and could it happen again?**. Hope it happens during the tournament, but just thought I’d point it out since so far the drilling had only been done to Arkansas. Thanks for all the good posts…looking forward to the rest of the weekend.

I think BigBlue operates under the delusion that anyone outside of the bluegrass state gives two craps about their basketball team.
Maybe Kentucky SHOULD join the ACC.

Hey Caz53 – Think you’re overestimating just how “head and shoulders” above everyone your Cats are. Did you see the South Carolina game? How about the Vandy game in Nashville? Tennesse game? Florida played you guys tough last weekend…Vandy is a very good team, as is Tennessee. Don’t kid yourself.

VU wins- uh…re-read my post. I’m actually just a non-lunatic fringe Dawg fan, and graduate to boot (insert spelling jokes here….). I actually loathe Big Blue and their fans, but I do think it’s funny you don’t think KU is in their own class. I’m hoping someone knocks them off, because I don’t think UGA has the firepower to beat them. Ya’ll? I think we can handle. Not promising a win tonite, but strange things happen in those late late games

Again, see the South Carolina, Vandy, Tennessee vs. UK games. Or the Stanford game. UK is good, but I don’t think anyone is “in their own class” this season. There are a bunch of really good teams, but no great ones. UK won the SEC by one game this season. That doesn’t scream of being in their own league. We’ll see if UGA can “handle” the Dores tonight. I highly doubt it.

UR Nuts- One thing we Dawgs are good at is not posting the same post three times. Thanks for your input. We may not have a national title but we’ve done quite well in football the last ten years. Elite, maybe not, but better than most.
The season ends tonight. This young team is much improved but I just don’t see them winning four straight.

Win or lose I enjoy watching this team play. You can question their overall talent level for sure, but not their heart.

As Skip Carey always said, that’s why they play the games.
It’s an interesting scenario Jeff, and I know part of the purpose of these blogs is to generate conversation, but predictions about who’s going to win, that’s Vegas talk. Talk about how tough this team is, or how many games they had a chance to win, but didn’t or did. Let’s talk about the players specifically who are giving UGA a chance in these games. Or talk about weaknesses, the youth, the inability in some games to finish strong. And talk about the level of competition, how it looks this year as compared to last year or the ‘08 Dawgs. Maybe some quotes from the players from the ‘08 team. Are there any players still on UGA’s roster from that team? What does former UGA coach Felton think about this year’s team and their chances? How does Fox’s system differ from Felton’s and is that giving this year’s team a better chance? I’m just sayin’.

If the Commodores can get Travis Leslie and Trey Thompkins in foul trouble it may be a long night for the dawgs. Without Trey on the floor, the dawgs become one dimensional with Ricky’s three point shooting ability- almost all of the points Jeremy Price, Albert Jackson, and Chris Barnes get are because of a double team on Trey or a drive to the basket by Travis Leslie.

When I was doing my drills I found that most drill sets really don’t work too well. Seriously I wish there was just one program that would make me a better shot and faster too. I noticed a lot of improvement with this program though: http://bit.ly/auHJqz
