Woods: ‘I thought I could get away with whatever I wanted’ (Updated with video)

In the strangest of settings, Tiger Woods gave a 13-minute, nationally televised public confession Friday morning before mostly friends and family members at a Florida country club, admitting to having several affairs and at one point saying, “I have a lot to atone for.”

Woods’ wife, Elin Nordegren, did not appear to be present for Woods’ statement, after which he took no questions from the few media members who were allowed in the room at the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

“I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior that I’ve been involved in,” Woods said early in the statement. And that pretty much set the tone for his first public statement since a sex scandal broke in November Friday before a roomful of mostly friends and supporters near his home in Windemere, Fla.

Woods appeared emotional, speaking slowly as he read from a prepared statement. Immediately afterward, he hugged his mother, Kutilda Woods, who was sitting in the front row. According to the AP, she whispered in his ear: “I said ‘I’m so proud of you. Never think you stand alone. Mom will always be there for you and I love you.”

Woods said he did not know when he will return to golf, but did not rule out playing on the PGA Tour in 2010. There has been only speculation that Woods plans to play in at the Masters at Augusta National April 8-11.

“I know I have bitterly disappointed all of you. I have made you question who I am and how I could have done the things I did. I’m embarrassed that I have put you in this position. For all that I have done, I am so sorry. I have a lot to atone for.”

Woods also denied media reports that Elin ever attacked him, commenting: “Elin has shown enormous grace and poise throughout this ordeal. Elin deserves praise, not blame. The issue involved here was my repeated irresponsible behavior. I was unfaithful. I had affairs, I cheated. What I did is not acceptable. And I am the only person to blame.

Woods admitted attending a 45-day therapy session, presumably for a sex addiction, “to receive guidance for the issues I am facing.” He said he plans to return to therapy Saturday, acknowledging, “I have a long way to go.

“I convinced myself normal rules didn’t apply. I thought about only myself. I thought I could get away with whatever I wanted to do. I wanted to enjoy all of the temptations around me. I felt I was entitled.”

Woods apologized to his wife, family and friends.

My initial thoughts are that Woods appeared contrite, even if well-rehearsed. I would’ve liked to see him answer questions but he reiterated that that’s a matter between he and his wife.

What are you thoughts of his comments? Do you believe the statement is satisfactory and do you believe Woods was being genuine?

Here’s video of Woods’ statement:

Here is a transcript of Woods’ statement:

Good morning, and thank you for joining me.

Many of you in this room are my friends. Many of you in this room know me. Many of you have cheered for me, you worked with me, or you supported me. Now every one of you has good reason to be critical of me. I want to say to each of you, simply and directly, I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior I engaged in.

I know people want to find out how I could be so selfish and so foolish. People want to know how I could have done these things to my wife, Elin, and to my children. And while I have always tried to be a private person, there are some things I want to say.

Elin and I have started the process of discussing the damage caused by my behavior. As Elin pointed out to me, my real apology to her will not come in the form of words. It will come from my behavior over time. We have a lot to discuss. However, what we say to each other will remain between the two of us.

I am also aware of the pain my behavior has caused to those of you in this room. I have let you down. And I have let down my fans. For many of you, especially my friends, my behavior has been a personal disappointment. To those of you who work for me, I have let you down personally and professionally. My behavior has caused considerable worry to my business partners, to everyone involved in my foundation, including my staff, board of directors, sponsors, and most importantly, the young students we reach. Our work is more important than ever. Thirteen years ago, my dad and I envisioned helping young people achieve their dreams through education. This work remains unchanged and will continue to grow. From the Learning Center students in Southern California to the Earl Woods scholars in Washington, D.C., millions of kids have changed their lives and I am dedicated to making sure that continues.

But still, I know I have bitterly disappointed all of you. I have made you question who I am and how I could have done the things I did. I’m embarrassed that I have put you in this position. For all that I have done, I am so sorry. I have a lot to atone for.

But there’s one issue I really want to discuss. Some people have speculated that Elin somehow hurt or attacked me on Thanksgiving night. It angers me that people would fabricate a story like that. Elin never hit me that night or any other night. There has never been an episode of domestic violence in our marriage, ever. Elin has shown enormous grace and poise throughout this ordeal. Elin deserves praise, not blame. The issue involved here was my repeated irresponsible behavior. I was unfaithful. I had affairs, I cheated. What I did is not acceptable. And I am the only person to blame.

I stopped living by the core values that I was taught to believe in. I knew my actions were wrong, but I convinced myself that normal rules didn’t apply. I never thought about who I was hurting. Instead I thought only about myself. I ran straight through the boundaries that a married couple should live by. I thought I could get away with whatever I wanted to. I felt that I had worked hard my entire life and deserved to enjoy all the temptations around me. I felt I was entitled. Thanks to money and fame, I didn’t have far – I didn’t have to go far to find them. I was wrong, I was foolish. I don’t get to play by different rules. The same boundaries that apply to everyone apply to me. I brought this shame on myself. I hurt my wife, my kids, my mother, my wife’s family, my friends, my foundation, and kids all around the world who admired me.

I’ve had a lot of time to think about what I’ve done. My failures have made me look at myself in a way I never wanted to before. It’s now up to me to make amends, and that starts by never repeating the mistakes I’ve made. It’s up to me to start living a life of integrity.

I once heard, and I believe it’s true, it’s not what you achieve in life that matters; it’s what you overcome. Achievements on the golf course are only part of setting an example. Character and decency are what really count. Parents used to point at me as a role model for their kids. I owe all those families a special apology. I want to say to them that I am truly sorry.

It’s hard to admit that I need help, but I do. For 45 days, from the end of December to early February, I was in in-patient therapy receiving guidance for the issues I’m facing. I have a long way to go. But I’ve taken my first steps in the right direction.

As I proceed, I understand people have questions. I understand the press wants me to – wants to ask me for the details of the times I was unfaithful. I understand people want to know whether Elin and I will remain together. Please know that as far as I’m concerned, every one of these questions, and answers, is a matter between Elin and me. These are issues between a husband and a wife.

Some people have made up things that never happened. They said I used performance-enhancing drugs. This is completely and utterly false.

Some have written things about my family. Despite the damage I have done, I still believe it is right to shield my family from the public spotlight. They did not do these things; I did. I have always tried to maintain a private space for my wife and children. They have been kept separate from my sponsors, from my commercial endorsements. When my children were born, we only released photographs so that the paparazzi could not chase them. However, my behavior doesn’t make it right for the media to follow my two-and-a-half-year-old daughter to school and report the school’s location. They staked out my wife and they pursued my mom. Whatever my wrongdoings, for the sake of my family: Please leave my wife and kids alone.

I recognize I have brought this on myself, and I know, above all, I am the one who needs to change. I owe it to my family to become a better person. I owe it to those closest to me to become a better man. That’s where my focus will be. I have a lot of work to do, and I intend to dedicate myself to doing it.

Part of following this path for me is Buddhism, which my mother taught me at a young age. People probably don’t realize it, but I was raised a Buddhist, and I actively practiced my faith from childhood until I drifted away from it in recent years. Buddhism teaches that a creation of things outside ourselves causes an unhappy and pointless search for security. It teaches me to stop following every impulse and to learn restraint. Obviously, I lost track of what I was taught.

As I move forward, I will continue to receive help because I’ve learned that’s how people really do change. Starting tomorrow, I will leave for more treatment and more therapy. I would like to thank my friends at Accenture and the players in the field this week for understanding why I’m making these remarks today. In therapy, I’ve learned the importance of looking at my spiritual life and keeping in balance with my professional life. I need to regain my balance and be centered, so I can say the things that are most important to me: My marriage and my children. That also means relying on others for help. I learned to seek support from my peers in therapy, and I hope someday to return that support to others who are seeking help.

I do plan to return to golf one day. I just don’t know when that day will be. I don’t rule out that it will be this year. When I do return, I need to make my behavior more respectful of the game.

In recent weeks, I have received many thousands of e-mails, letters and phone calls from people expressing good wishes. To everyone who has reached out to me and my family, thank you. Your encouragement means the world to Elin and me. I want to thank the PGA Tour, Commissioner Finchem, and the players for their patience and understanding while I work on my private life. I look forward to seeing my fellow players on the course.

Finally, there are many people in this room, and there are many people at home who believed in me. Today I want to ask for your help. I ask you to find room in your heart to one day believe in me again.

Thank you.

Nice speech even though it wasn’t needed. This should be between him and his family. The media have been scumbags during this.

I REPEAT….Who the in the heck was so distraught that Tiger cheated that they felt like they needed an apology? I am sick to death of hearing about this. He’s a freaking golfer, not an elected official taking exotic trips with tax payer dollars. The only news worthy portion of the entire ordeal was when his wife attempted to beat him to death with his own golf clubs! NOW THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT.

Good lord, Jeff. Why on earth does Tiger have to control the situation? This is his personal life and he seems to be handling it as anyone of us would in the same situation. He owes us nothing. NOTHING. It’s his family that he has to answer to. He has been in treatment for months and appears to be taking this very seriously so that he can save his family and save himself. At the end of the day, that is all that matters. He has the right to not answer questions about this matter. The only one who deserves to ask questions is Elin.

We are all lucky to have witnessed greatness over his career and the tour has blossomed since he joined it. But work and personal should be separate at all times. He has suffered because of the suffering he caused. That the man is trying to save himself is a testament to who he is. You should let him be. We all should. I forgive him as a fan because I don’t care in his personal life. Because I really really doubt anyone on this board or the writer of this column would be able to stand up to the scrutiny he is always under. You would crack like warm sheet of ice. What a bunch of hypocrites.

The issue is not his wife, Woods said, but his “repeated irresponsible behavior, I had affairs, I have cheated. … I stopped living by the core values I was taught

Huh? His Dad ran around on his Mom the whole time when he was going up. In fact Tiger has a half brother. I would say he was living exactly by the core values he was taught. The apple did not fall far from the tree.

Scripted or not, sincere or not, he said what needed to be said (maybe not what you wanted him to say or done the way you wanted) to the people that mattered most (i.e. not the media), made some additional points (no domestic violence in my household ever, never took performance enhancing drugs), explained why this needed to be done today and agreed that he now has to walk the talk.

My advice at this point is to find something else to do with your time, folks.

I understand a plane crashed into the IRS building in Austin, TX, a lady in Atlanta was assaulted near GTech, the Winter Olympics are on, Accenture’s golf tournament is still going on, each of you probably have a friend or loved one who could use your help finding a job…you know, important things.

Huh? Tiger brought this on himself. Im sorry but cry me a river. When you set yourself up as the All American guy and family man and make millions of dollars off that image people have a right to know if that is real or not. It always amazes me how celebrities love the attention and the fame and fortune it brings them but when something negative happens they start screaming about privacy etc.

Not first. Peadawg…Tiger is the scum bag. As are the women who knew they were having sex with a married man. It’s NOT just between him and his family. He put his FRIENDS in very uncomfortable positions. Some of his friends knew this was going on, and then they are faced with keeping quiet because they are his friends or telling his wife because they can’t stand the weight of knowing what he is doing to her. So they say nothing…and have to sit there and deal with it. Like Tiger himself said…HE was selfish, irresponsible. The media are just doing their job…whether you like their job or not.

Tiger behaved recklessly, suffered (and continues to) the consequences, appears to have taken responsibility for his actions and is now saying that he will try via his actions to make things right. Like I typed, that’s that with that. We’ll see if he stays true to his intentions.

As for the rest of you spouting venom, hatred, and nasty comments on this blog—feel free to continue as that’s your right but as far as I am reading its all ‘blah, blah, blah’ and ‘yada, yada, yada’ because, at this point, we all know the details that need to be known.

If Tiger wants redemption and forgiveness for his transgressions then he has to start getting his personal life and career in order in various ways. Not saying that it is right – but that’s how the world of entertainment is. This happens to AVERAGE people everyday, it’s just not a big issue.

Tiger simply fell prey to the same thing that most men do at some time in their life. God made women the most beauirtful remarkable creatures on earth. Married, engaged, single..it doesn’t matter. Men love the grace, beauty and sexuality of women, and it’s a wonderful thing. Of course when a man is married he is precluded from doing anything more than look and appreciate. Tiger got caught…Clinton got caught..Mark Sanford got caught..the list goes on and will never end. Men with money and fame will always be tested…every single day. Many will fail. Tiger owes us nothing. Allow him and his family to heal in privacy. If he comes back to golf, fine. Right now he needs to deal with his issues, and simply learn to control natural urges. In 2 years no one will remember any of this this.

However, if he thinks the questions concerning one of his doctors being arrested in Canada for performance enhancing drugs are going away just because he gives a denial he is in for a surprise.

He also picked a bad time of day to make his announcement if he is trying to rehabilitate his image with women – my wife had The View pre-empted for the news conference and she wasn’t pleased

I think everyone should just get a life. Its people (paparazzi, fans, stalkers, reporters, etc) that put people on these pedestals and then when they do something wrong you want to demoralize them. You put them under the bus and roll over them like they’re not human.

Entertainers, Preachers, Bishops, Billionaires, Millionaires and all others are….HUMAN!!!!! They make mistakes. They do wrong. Some get caught and some don’t. You act like they owe you their life when they do wrong. Well guess what????? THEY DON’T!!!!! Whatever God they serve is the ONLY person they have to apologize to accept for the person that they hurt and wronged.

What’s in your closet? If we open your doors or follow you late at night or go through your laundry WHAT WILL WE FIND????? PLEASE!!!!! GET A LIFE!!!! I don’t think Tiger should have apologized publicly. He had already said enough. It’s HIS life. He has to pay for his wrong doing. ONLY HIM!!!!

Tiger I wish you all that life has to offer. You’ve achieved GREAT things and I’m sure you’ll achieve a LOT more. Hold your head up high and walk tall with dignity.

Today’s media is so self righteous,

I don’t recall Mickey Mantle or a 1,000 other high profile athletes ever having to issue a formal apology, many of whom have done things 100x worse than Tiger Woods. Do these athletes have egos? Yes. Are they self centered? Of course. Their negative attributes when channeled correctly are the very things that make them great. As a culture we have made allowances for their shortcomings in their pursuits of greatness. Yet act shocked when they act out on “selfish” inpulses like cheating on their spouses. I’m not defending their behaviour. If you’re making millions of dollars a year, scrutiny is the price you pay for being successful. I do however feel that we as consumers should accept some responsiblity for the egos these professional athletes have. We build them up because of their talents, spend millions of dollars a year on their merchandise making them millionaires in the process, then look for the first opportunity to tear them down when they don’t live up to our bogus standards of morality. Seems a little hypocritical to me.

The gentlemanly game of golf aside, Tiger Woods failed in his chip shot at par. His world will forever be a series of double bogey’s no matter what. As actions speak louder than words, his actions cost him the admiration of not only the golfing world, but the world of what remains of what many of us treasure. Moral human character associated with marriage. Is he alone in his failure..? Absolutely not. He joins a club with many well known men who wielded a bit of power and charisma along the way. Now, if he were a female sex addict, he’d be the life of many a stag parties, right dudes..?

Who cares anyway. Tiger did not need to make this statement and all of the writers like Schultz, Steve Elling, and other golf writers can go pound sand. His personal life and problems within it are no matter to anyone. If he did something illegal and was busted for it, then ok I can see that point, but what he did is only wrong between him, his family, and his god. This speech should have been private and made in front of Elin, his mom, her family, and their kids. And to those who says he should talk about why he did it??? Are you serious? Do we really need to know why or who? It is none of our darn(trying to be clean) business and he owes us nothing.

I don’t agree with what he did and it is shameful, but that is between him and his family. I sure as heck won’t stop watching him play golf because of it. And the AP, CBS, etc….please why are we treating this event like it’s the President making a war time or similar speech? My God! What have we come to?
I really wonder about the people who say that Tiger needs to apologize to them. Outside of Elin his family and possibly his sponsors, Tiger owes an apology to no one. Certainly he doesn’t owe me an apology. I don’t think he owes you one either. He certainly owes no apology to anyone in the media, most of whom seem to feel that he’s owes it to them to “tell everything”. Balderdash!!!! I’ve never seen Tiger once sermonize about being a role model or about any issues of morality.

I am a golfer and have followed Tiger for years and not once have ever heard him say that we was or wanted to be a role model for anything other how to hit say, a nine iron. To the contrary, to the consternation of numerous civil rights leaders, Tiger has resisted the urge to get involved in moral issues. If you bought the idea that Tiger—or anyone else—was the paragon of virtue, then that’s something that you INFERRED. Not him.

Maybe, just maybe, the media (including Nancy Grace, Jane Vellez-Mitchell, Gerald Posner), Jesper Parnevik as well as a host of SELF-RIGHTEOUS, ANGRY WHITE PEOPLE (a few of whom appear to be jealous because they can no longer compete as golfers) should be apologizing to Tiger for “piling on and sitting in judgment”

And for those who say that he has no right to privacy in this case, let’s air out all of your dirty laundry in the media.
Jeff, what gives you the right to sit in judgment? Tiger does have to bare all to you or show contrition to you or anyone else except Elin and a FEW others—not even those slutty women who claim that they thought that they were ‘the only one.”. Yeah right. They knew what they were doing all along and just don’t want to admit that they have a minus IQ.

Shane: E! Online is your source for affairs by Earl Woods? And a lady who dated Tiger in high school is their source? And you try to call me a dummy? That’s not evidence or proof of anything — other than the fact that you are a fool.

And the ‘report’ that Tiger’s sponsors ‘lost’ $12 billion dollars as a result of his actions is another load of garbage. Those companies haven’t lost anything first of all and their stock prices go up and down daily and theirs have all gone down since the Great Recession started (have you heard of it or did you not see that story on E! so you don’t know about it?). Tiger’s actions are not that important to be the cause of Nike or Gatorade ‘losing’ money—they are both still immensely profitable (i.e. haven’t lost any money) and their stock prices have gone up and down in sync with the market due to the overall economy.

Not that you understand anything I just typed, Shane, since Tiger’s girlfriend from high school didn’t tell it to E! Online so you could read it.

The tour relayed that he worked this out with them and Accenture before he scheduled the press conference. Accenture doesn’t have a problem with it and the tour doesn’t have a problem with it. If anything they are glad it gives the tournament some exposure and Tiger even praised them during his speech. You, Ernie Els, and anyone else who disagrees will just have to get over it, but this tournament was doomed without Tiger and today only gives it and the PGA some exposure.

After watching Tiger Woods’ remarks on television today, it is obvious that he is addressing his sex addition with help of a twelve-step program, a set of guiding principles outlining a course of action for recovery from addiction, compulsion, or other behavioral problems. As summarized by the American Psychological Association, the process involves the following:
• admitting that one cannot control one’s addiction or compulsion;
• recognizing a greater power that can give strength;
• examining past errors with the help of a sponsor (experienced member);
• making amends for these errors;
• learning to live a new life with a new code of behavior;
• helping others that suffer from the same addictions or compulsions.
My dad was an alcoholic who went to rehab at age 60. Afterwards, he was sober for the remaining ten years of his life. When he returned home, he spent many evenings attending AA meetings. Tiger has a good chance for recovery if he stays with the 12 steps. Those who think he owes anyone other than his wife or children any explanations, do not “get it”!

I wont watch golf unless Tiger is playing.

That’s all that matters. He’s the greatest sports figure in all of sports history. Golf is the toughest sport of all. He’s the greatest of all. Michael Jordan is a distant second. Then terry bradshaw.

Neither Golf, nor morality will survive this scandal.

Tiger does not owe anyone but his supporters and his family an opology. The media is just ticked off becasue they can’t ask personal questions that they should not even be asking anyway because it is no ones business. I commend Tiger for standing his ground and saying this is now and will always be between my wife and I. He needs to get back out there and start playing. What about john Dailey and his years of antics? He is still playing and no one is all over his case.

What a sad day in america when a man has to apologise for enjoying the fruits of his labor.

what’s the purpose of working hard and getting rich if you still have to bang one chic. come on. no one eats the same meal everyday.

Even warren buffet and jack welch have women on the side and don’t have to apologise. Tiger wimped out like a biatch.

having sex with multiple women is normal. the only problem is very few people have the opportunity except for george will.

tiger made a lot of women happy. thanks to him some of these women have reduced the amount of time they spend on their back and knees. :)

He should be commended for his contribution to improving the plight of women around the country.

Addiction, ttthsssssp. If 50% of you were Tiger, could have anybody and were on the road, it would be the same story. It is not an addition no more than breathing is an addition. Anybody under the age of 35 has the urge, he just cheated plain and simple and when he didn’t get caught it escalated. If he were single he would be a player but he is not and is a cheater. He doesn’t owe me or anyone an apology, no more than Charles Barkley does for gambling. The only one he owes an apology is his family and his God. And Shane it would matter if he were gay, cause nobody would give a crap about Tiger Woods.

It’s none of our business, He is great at his sport. Those that are judging him should look at themselves. He cheated on his wife. He did not murder or cover up a murder, did not steal millions of dollars, did not beat his wife. There are many athletes and governmental persons and entertainment industry people who have done worse and have not been judged as harshly. Tiger has done a lot for children. We need to look into our own behavior and lives and remember what we have done. Just like us Tiger is a man who has faults like we do. He has made mistakes just like us. But unlike some of us, he’s man enough to stand before the world and admit to his mistakes. I wonder how many of us have had affairs and hid them from our spouses or partners. Are you willing to admit to them that you cheated and lied? It doesn’t matter how much money and fame a person has, the bottom line is that they, just like us they are human. As humans, black, white, male or female we make mistakes. The only people that Tiger has to answer to is God, his wife, his kids, his mother, and his self. He owes us nothing, this is a private matter and we should respect that.

Well, that’s that with that.

Scripted or not, sincere or not, he said what needed to be said (maybe not what you wanted him to say or done the way you wanted) to the people that mattered most (i.e. not the media), made some additional points (no domestic violence in my household ever, never took performance enhancing drugs), explained why this needed to be done today and he knows now that he has to walk the talk.

Guess some of you will need to find something else to do with your time.

In the things-that-truly-matter-department: I understand a plane crashed into the IRS building in Austin, TX, a lady in Atlanta was assaulted near GTech, the Winter Olympics are on, Accenture’s golf tournament is still going on, and, last, each of you probably have a friend or loved one who could use your help finding a job.

Bottom line is either you move on or you continue to waste your life worried about someone else who is trying to salvage theirs.

Why does the media keep hanging on to this? One word answer: viewers. Everyone turned to watch or listen to Tiger Woods. Where else can they get those kinds of ratings? We’re captivated by the whole thing. But the reality is that it has nothing to do with any of us.

Those of you who have cheated on your spouses would not want to go public either. Remember, Tiger is not an elected official. Also, he’s right to be upset with the press for going after his kids. Letterman said on his show, “I’m an idiot”…all unscipted.
Tiger is a phoney…HELL of an athelete, but a phoney.
And for the moron talking about John Daley, yeah, he’s an idiot too, but caught hell in the press and lost a TON of dough for it as well. Get your facts staight…

Tiger owes no one but his family and sponsers. So what, he is still a self entitled, trash mouth, spoiled brat. Take all the controlling security away son, face the media and anyone else for that matter, just one time. Answer all the questions as truthfully as you can just one time, whatever the question is. Earn back a little respect from your family, friends, peers and the general public, then go play golf. You might not owe it to all that is mentioned, but it would go along way, and be the best way to put all this behind you. Show some true character for once when things aren’t going your way, instead of hiding behind close friends and hand picked people to attend your joke of a press conference. Oh, and when you do play again could you show a little respect to others and leave the foul mouth profanity in the locker room. Stand up an be a man with some character for once. It is easy to do when things are going your way, it shows true character when you can do it when things are not. However, I will not hold my breath.

Ah young Grasshopper, you have mastered the little white stone, but he who can not master his own temptation has no mastery at all. You must not return to the therapy. The ways of the West are weak and you could even be tempted by those who you seek for guidance. Your fame and fortune can be a temptation for those who seek to help you. Come to the monastery and learn the ways of the Shaolin. You have great potential young Grasshopper. We will teach you mastery of your inner being.

Tiger doesn’t NEED to apologize to me or anyone (outside of his family) for his actions off the golf course. I would have much preferred an apology for the cursing, throwing clubs and acting like a jack@ss many times over the years in front of many kids. That would have been appropriate.

I think it is a good idea to apologize to his fans and sponsors, but I also believe he made a major mistake reading from a prepared statement. I suggest he speak from his heart. Keep it short and to the point. And by all means, DO NOT try and tell the media how to do their job… you are just asking for more heartache.

So bottom line… I feel for Tiger, but he made a mistake today. Get ready for the SNL skits tomorrow night! lol

Vick Supporter – Big difference here for me as long as we are talking sports. Tiger played around away from the sport. His dedication to the sport is not in question. Vick did too but admits he mailed it in on the sport he was being paid millions to play.

MCook It’s phony btw. How does it make me a moron to point out that Daly has done worse but at least has not been a phony about it? Of course it has cost him a ton of money but deservedly so. He has not respected the game or his talents.

White people things Tiger owe them an apology. Black people things it between Tiger and his family. Do you see the differnt, why should anyone care. Kobe Bryant got on the news because he accused of “Rape” he should have been thie to clear his name. Bill CLinton got on the TV. because he did owe us something he’s was the President. I don’t care who wrote your speech. THe BEST thing you said was, whatever happen is between me and my wife… The media you should be ashame. following Elin around with her kids. Leacv his mother alone. Why is the media so stupid asking question like are you going to leave Tiger, like she is going to tell you. The fact that this came out the week of the first Accenture tournament says all we need to know about whether tigger has /will change/d. I don’t thing that for 13 minutes you need to say I am sorry… I lost interest after the first I am sorry. Then the second third fourth on and on. I know he was in rehab and the first thing you need to do is apologize. So he did it. And now he needs to get on with his personal life. Get it right. Then get back to golf. Joseph Brown

I tend to agree with Donald Trump. Maybe Tiger should not have done a public apology. He could just continue to play golf and win.
The apology should be to his wife and maybe his children when they are old enough to understand.
The common man or woman does not have to go say “I’m sorry” to the whole world. Why shouldTiger Woods?
Tiger Woods never said he was perfect and that he could walk on water. It was US, the public, and Nike and other companies that wanted to cash in on that “Perfect” image.
Our Greatest Presidents were not perfect. They have skeletons in the closet but there were not always TV cameras and digital cams to record everything, plus the society that existed when George Washington,Thomas Jefferson, or Franklin Roosevelt were more interested in what was affecting the lives of every day people such as wars, slavery, economics, and so forth. We were taught in school that he “father of our nation”, George Washington said: “I can not tell a lie….” we all know that was a lie right there. He and Thomas Jefferson, also more than likley had sex with as many Black slave girls as they wished. It is proven that Thomas Jefferson was the father of several of his “black” slaves but no one wants to tear down his monument or take his face off of our money. No one objects to former slave owners’ faces on our money. Under todays laws and perpective, some of our founding fathers would be considered pedophiles and/or rapists and be convicted of sex crimes. What slave in American history had the right to take the “Master” to court for having sex with his or her under the age of 18 child? What Amercan slave of the 1800’s, 1700’s 1600’s or 1500’s hahd the right to accuse the slave master of sodomy? Do not think that there were no homosexual slave owners. It has been said that the K K K ws founded by former homosexual slave masters who wanted to intimidate the freed black slaves to keep their mouth’s shut about the sexual abuse.
Tiger is just another human who let his genitals think for him. Women are guilty of this also. All the single Moms who have babies out of wedlock did not give it up by force. The women Tiger slept with owes Tiger’s wife an apology. She should sue them all. That would set a precedent and women would think twice about sleeping wirh a known married man. In fact, at least one Americcn wife did sue a woman for taking her husband.

“A marital contRact is a PROMISE not ot do what Tigger has repeatedly. Married men, whether famous or not, meet challenges to their fidelity too and if you’re not MAN enough to abide by the promise you made your wife when you agreed to marry her, then you are a sad, shadow of a man.”

This may have been your promise, but that does not mean it is everybody else’s promise. The reality is that for most of the world fidelity is not the absolute that it is for so many Americans. In fact there has never been a single mention of divorce for the Woods’ family. This is none of our business. I have seen first hand how people – of both sexes- throw themselves at people with a little bit of fame and notoriety. Add money to the equation and people will do almost anything to get close. Sad state that any of us think this has anything to do with us or that we are OWED anything as a result.

There has been a 30 plus year war against men here in America, and it has coincided with the decline and near fall of America as a Great power. Tiger’s humiliation is just the latest insult. The man should have stood proud before the camera’s and said “I stand before you today defiant and unrepentant, to announce a new business venture, the Tiger Condom.” At that point he should have whipped out a two feet long condom, and said this has always worked well for me. Tiger could then have led the MALE Rebellion against Feminzation! Yes, I am of the Rebellion and proud of it! Unfortunately, he whimped out on us, and we need a new hero. Jeff, What good would answering a bunch of questions from “journalists” have done?
I doubt any “journalist”’s question would have covered one salient point that Tiger did not address himself. If his refusal to answer questions offends you and other would-be “journalists”, then why dignify his event with any sort of comment at all?

Face it. You guys (the ink stained wretches) need him more than he needs you. You guys have papers and e-commerce type ads to sell while Tiger has 500 million dollars in the bank, several homes, and a big yacht get away from it all whenever he wants.
