Georgia update: If Chavis was on the board, take him off

John Chavis felt the need to squash a rumor that he was coming to Athens.

LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis apparently heard rumors that he was a candidate at Georgia, so he stopped them.

I’m not sure if this qualifies as news, since LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis never really has been cast as a realistic candidate for the Georgia defensive coordinator’s opening. But for the record, he apparently is telling LSU players he is not interested.

Tigers linebacker Kelvin Sheppard told a Baton Rouge television station that Chavis pulled him to the side during practice and told him: “You knew if I was going anywhere, you’d [Sheppard] be the first person I’d tell.  I’m here with you all, I love it here, I’m not going anywhere.”

LSU is preparing for the Capital One Bowl against Penn State Friday. WBRZ in Baton Rouge reported that neither Chavis nor Les Miles were available for comment. Chavis in his first season at LSU after 20 years at Tennessee. He makes about $450,000 as LSU’s defensive coordinator.

There’s been no shortage of names that have floated around, including Bud Foster (who got a raise to stay at Virginia Tech) and Kirby Smart (who is expected to receive a significant raise to stay at Alabama). The Dogs also contacted Kansas State’s Vic Koenning before he left for Illinois, but it’s not believed they ever offered him the job.

If Georgia coach Mark Richt is getting closer to hiring a candidate, it’s only because he has been saying the process should be wrapped up by next week. That’s after the bowl games and the NFL regular season. I mention the NFL regular season because Buffalo defensive line coach Bob Sanders and Dallas defensive line coach Todd Grantham also have been mentioned as candidates.

I’m telling you Kirby Smart is coming back to UGA to the tune of 1.5 million and will be our head coach one day..

Only one name matters—Kirby Smart—he’s headed to Athens–the deal is done—mark it down! The GA D is back baby!!!

mgdawg….At some point (even Kirby Smart) started out coaching several positions before being named DC of Alabama, therefore Garner should be granted the same treatment. Most of the defensive coordinators that has been mentioned are just a turnstale of reconditioned coaches. Willie Martinez was a good position coach but not a good coordinator because he could not adjust on the fly. Garner showed last night that he was able to adjust from halftime, and the players played disciplined & spirited football.

Make all the fat man jokes you want to Georgia fans, but you would be lucky to get a DC as good as Chavis. You’ll end up with another CMR “Yes Man” (after all, he has shown that he values loyalty over ability) and the same joke of a defense you’ve been running for the past few years. So grab a doughnut and think on that.

Why did Urban flip flop? Let me see here. God told him to quit. So he did. And then Meyer flip flopped on God within 24 hours? Huh? Makes no sense to me, and it won’t make any sense to any kid who believes in God.

Why did Meyer Quit?

Ok, let me get this straight. Meyer says his priorities need to change to put faith first, family second. God tells Meyer to quit, his wife agrees. Then Meyer flip flops on God and his wife? Dude, that makes no sense. Recruits arn’t going to like this kind of stuff.

Wow, I’m so confused. I wish Urban would make up his mind. Did God tell him to wuit or not? Did he promise his wife he would quit or not? Does Meyer have a heart condition or not? Gator Nation and inquiring minds want to know.

Kirby’s coming to Georgia, don’t worry about it people. He knows he’s good with Richt, the only guy with 90 SEC wins in 9 seasons. he knows if things go well at Georgia, he’ll look like a winner, and things can’t get much worse. If things go bad at Georgia, as the DC, he’d be next in line for the H Coach job as coach-in-waiting. Kirby can’t lose by coming to Georgia which is why insiders like ESPN and Pollack say Kirby Smart is Georgia’s first choice. Saban’s DC in 2007 bolted too, Saban’s a tough guy to work for, and everyone knows, just like Meyer, Saban doesn’t stay anywhere very long. Richt is the most senior SEC Coach.

Jeff….. I am shocked you are allowing this after you have said in the past you would allow no racist comments. What is up with that?

Jeff,

What are you basing your point of view on here? A linebackers report that Chavis isn’t leaving? Come on now. People like Saban and Meyer have been known to tell others they are not leaving, and then to jet. Just because Chavis tells a LB he’s elaving, doesn’t mean a whole lot.

Why can’t Florida get someone besides Addazio to be the coach–Addazio’s only Head Coaching experience was as Head Coach of a High School team. That’s unbelievable. Addazio? Head Coach in the SEC? You’ve got to be kidding me.

Interesting “news” . . . uga should stop looking at someone but you don’t even know if uga was looking. And you get paid for this! I’m impressed! Perhaps you should’ve tried to confirm and see if Richt had contacted Chavis, or, if Chavis had talked to Richt, before running this article that appears at least to be based on nothing more than internet banter. Fact is, I’ve seen nothing that indicates that Richt actually offered this position to anyone. This is as far fetched as those who claim Kirby Smart is coming to UGA and that the deal has been done since last September and is confirmed by someone’s cousin’s plumber! Here’s the deal . . . we’ll know something, anything, when it is officially realeased or when you guys do what you are paid to and figure it out instead of speculate . . . just a thought.

Remember back on Nov 23, 2009, when Meyer promised he’d be at Florida “as long as they’ll have me” and I said on this blog, Urban Meyer will quit in 2009?

Well, he lied. And so would Chavis.

One thing for sure ……… no program is allowed to have Chavis AND Mangino . It simply puts too much strain on the athletic food budget …… not to mention air flights & bus rides .

Richt has said he has offered the job to NO ONE. The rumors about Foster and Koenning were ploys made up by their agents to get them more money.
Richt has said he will make the announcement after the Bowls, that would be Jan 8, after the Natl Champ. Richt has said he will get someone with “championship experience”.

If it’s anyone but Smart or Muschamp, the announcement would have already been made to help recruiting. Pollack and ESPN both think it’s Smart. Smart is a GA guy, his wife played for UGA, their family lives here, if necessary, he’ll be offered a coach-in-waiting type of deal like Muschamp has at Texas. Richt’s the ONLY SEC Head Coach with 90 SEC wins in 9 seasons, no Saban, Miles, or Meyer there.

Apparently, when Urban Meyer said “I’ll be the Florida Coach as long as they’ll have me” on Nov 23, 2009, he meant “for 33 more days until I quit.”

Herew’s the video where he broke his promise…..

Here’s “The Promise” Urban Meyer Video:

Florida loves to talk about Tim Tebow’s famous promise, it’s referred to as “The Promise” and is put on a plaque for all to see.

Here’s a new one for them from Coach Meye ron Nov. 23, 2009:
“I’ll be the Florida Coach as long as they’ll have me”

this ESPN video records the promise in Meyer’s on words:

Note:
Urban Meyer BROKE this promise on Dec. 27, 2009, 34 days later.

I had to close commenting on this blog earlier in the evening after being alerted that things had devolved into a race debate. For those who take a simple little blog on John Chavis and turn it into a pathetic race debate, you need to get a life. For the rest of you, thank you. I’ve deleted about 60 of the most offensive comments.
