LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis apparently heard rumors that he was a candidate at Georgia, so he stopped them.
I’m not sure if this qualifies as news, since LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis never really has been cast as a realistic candidate for the Georgia defensive coordinator’s opening. But for the record, he apparently is telling LSU players he is not interested.
Tigers linebacker Kelvin Sheppard told a Baton Rouge television station that Chavis pulled him to the side during practice and told him: “You knew if I was going anywhere, you’d [Sheppard] be the first person I’d tell. I’m here with you all, I love it here, I’m not going anywhere.”
LSU is preparing for the Capital One Bowl against Penn State Friday. WBRZ in Baton Rouge reported that neither Chavis nor Les Miles were available for comment. Chavis in his first season at LSU after 20 years at Tennessee. He makes about $450,000 as LSU’s defensive coordinator.
There’s been no shortage of names that have floated around, including Bud Foster (who got a raise to stay at Virginia Tech) and Kirby Smart (who is expected to receive a significant raise to stay at Alabama). The Dogs also contacted Kansas State’s Vic Koenning before he left for Illinois, but it’s not believed they ever offered him the job.
If Georgia coach Mark Richt is getting closer to hiring a candidate, it’s only because he has been saying the process should be wrapped up by next week. That’s after the bowl games and the NFL regular season. I mention the NFL regular season because Buffalo defensive line coach Bob Sanders and Dallas defensive line coach Todd Grantham also have been mentioned as candidates.

my $$ is still on a NFL coach- Sanders or Herring. If last night’s game was an indication of our D without CWM, maybe we don’t need a coach at all- keep it simple right??

A pal is a pal for life. Right? CMR and CWM were pals in faith, in their UM alma mater and in outside interests, like CMR’s missionary work. Pals for life …………Right???
Richt had to pull the plug on one aspect of CWM’s life ( $30,000 month job ) and the guy split, saying “I ain’t gonna coach em in the Weedeater Bowl. Nope, aint gonna do it.”
I guess Richt now will know to never again blend bidness with friends and relatives.

After the great defensive play against Texas A & M,
and the play calling by BoBo, why don’t Richt just
continue to coach the defense. Don’t hire anybody.
Georgia looked the best all year against A & M.

Face it, no one on this blog knows 100% who the next DC will be at UGA. It could very well be K. Smart but who knows? The fact that he was born in Montgomery has nothing to do w/ staying in Bama. He played HS ball in Bainbridge and went to UGA. Your comments are like you stupid dog; ignorant. FYI, you are able to leave your home state. The NCAA will allow that. You think U. Meyer is from FL???
Cheeseburger – I love having RG on the sidelines and I’m taking a guess here that he makes a lot more than his contract (if he had one…don’t you think that’s odd???) so I’m sure by him being the Assistant HC he probably makes a pretty good chunk of change. Race has nothing to do with… he’s not hurting I’m sure.

Kirby Smart wants to get out from under Sabans coat tail. He has learned a lot and may even win the big one, but he needs to show he can do it without Saban calling the shots. He will get that freedom in Athens and can make an even bigger name for himself. Once a dawg always a dawg!!!! See ya in Athens Kirby and lets GATA

Wally: Whad ya say that for, Beav? You know Ryans is down the road. Chavis loves it there!
Beav: Gee, Wally. I didn’t know that. Maybe you’re right. Keep down expenses, keep the grad assistants, and cut costs. By the way, Mom says there’s a new restaurant down the street. Mickey D’s. What’s that, huh Wally?

I must have missed something…and Jeff, you must be “in the loop”. The MEDIA floats a ridiculous name and since he isn’t hired….UGA has been turned down again. Maybe you should float names like Meyer, Holtz, Moses, King David….then you couls have 4 columns…. I see it now..”From the grave Moses says “NO” to UGA. Gets BIG raise in Heaven” Come on….print original REAL stuff. There’s plenty to be reported on….if you start reporting again.

Let’s use GT fan logic here. GT beat Clemson twice, Clemson beat Kentucky, Kentucky beat UGA, therefore GT is better than UGA. Now, UGA beat A&M by 24 and Texas beat A&M by 10, so does that mean UGA should be playing Alabama for the national title?…..silly tech fans!!

Since we all KNOW how GREAAAAT these four and five star athletes are in the Classic Mutt City. why hire a coach at all? Since Mutts SHUT DOWN the mighty TAMU offensive machine (albeit with a 6-6 record?), let these finely tuned athletes coach themselves up. I love it. Their fans are working overtime trying to convince themselves that this year maybe wasn’t as bad as it seemed. They’re ASSUMING that a change will be for the better. Might want to check with Tommy T. to see how well that program worked out. Buys a HC some time, but it does not buy an identity, motivation or discipline. Since Evans said that uniform gimmicks are out, what’s next on the menu?

Jeff if it’s Smart or Grantham, we switch to a 3-4 def. we have lots of DE’s & LB’s and very few DT’s. All you need is a motorgrader in the middle to take up blocks and let your athletes GATA! Pressure! Pressure! Zone Blitz!

A lot of head coaching jobs opening up too. Brooks @ KY, Leach @ TT, Meyer @ FL???. So some of these hot shot co-ordinators may be stepping up early anyway.
Somebody asked Mike Leach why he stuck Adam James in a closet and he said “because Craig James wasn’t around to stuff into a closet”.

Damon Evans needs to break the bank and pay Kirby Smart whatever he wants, whatever it takes. He’s the best D coordinator in the U.S. and will build the UGA D into a national power, immediately. Pay him $1.5 – $2.0 mil per year if necessary–he’s worth every penny, and UGA is flush with cash to pay big money plus a boatload of perqs, benefits and incentives. Get it done, ASAP!!!

30-24 still makes me laugh at Tech’s pain. It brings back great memories. My worst memory of the game was trying to find it on TV. I kept passing it up, seeing the bladder infection yellow clad crowd and thinking that there was an outdoor star trek convention going on. What a douche – a -palooza.
