LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis apparently heard rumors that he was a candidate at Georgia, so he stopped them.
I’m not sure if this qualifies as news, since LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis never really has been cast as a realistic candidate for the Georgia defensive coordinator’s opening. But for the record, he apparently is telling LSU players he is not interested.
Tigers linebacker Kelvin Sheppard told a Baton Rouge television station that Chavis pulled him to the side during practice and told him: “You knew if I was going anywhere, you’d [Sheppard] be the first person I’d tell. I’m here with you all, I love it here, I’m not going anywhere.”
LSU is preparing for the Capital One Bowl against Penn State Friday. WBRZ in Baton Rouge reported that neither Chavis nor Les Miles were available for comment. Chavis in his first season at LSU after 20 years at Tennessee. He makes about $450,000 as LSU’s defensive coordinator.
There’s been no shortage of names that have floated around, including Bud Foster (who got a raise to stay at Virginia Tech) and Kirby Smart (who is expected to receive a significant raise to stay at Alabama). The Dogs also contacted Kansas State’s Vic Koenning before he left for Illinois, but it’s not believed they ever offered him the job.
If Georgia coach Mark Richt is getting closer to hiring a candidate, it’s only because he has been saying the process should be wrapped up by next week. That’s after the bowl games and the NFL regular season. I mention the NFL regular season because Buffalo defensive line coach Bob Sanders and Dallas defensive line coach Todd Grantham also have been mentioned as candidates.

You Dawg fans are unrealistic at best. How bout Monte Kiffin? I’m sure he would leave UT and his son to coach that fine bunch you have playing defense in Athens! Remember they’re all 4 and 5 stars..

What makes David Pollack “qualified”? And, injured for the Bengals – really?
Even David said on Monday afternoon that he knows nothing about coordinating a defense – he is a position player and could “probably” coach the DE’s but “there is no way I could be a DC”.
And, oh, yeah, he is RETIRED from the Bengals because of the injury, and has no plans to return, though yesterday he did say he gets the itch to play again, “but that ain’t happenin’”.

David Pollack has a rising career in broadcasting. Plus he would need to start as a position coach before going to DC. Pollack is not going to be the next DC.

If Kirby Smart were staying at BAMA then they would have announced that by now. He has had plenty of time to work out an extension at BAMA and that has not happened. And not a peep out of any Bama players, etc saying that he is staying. The longer this goes on without an announcement, the more likely he is coming to UGA. They’re waiting til after the BCS game to announce.

Will somebody find out if the rumors about Will Muschamp coming to Georgia are fact or fiction? Mack Brown will be at Texas through 2017, and he now makes $5 million per year. Muschamp is 37 years old, and I don’t believe he wants to stick around Austin for eight more years as the coach in waiting. Bring him back to Athens so a former Bulldog can coach this defense up for 2010 and beyond. He’s a true motivator and a wild man on the sidelines. Georgia will be better in 2010, but it’s time to get back into the SEC east race every year. The bowl victory was great last night, but it’s tough to get real excited about winning the Independence Bowl. Go Dogs!!! Sic ‘em!!!

Dumb dawgs think they have some elite program. LOL
They think they are on the same level with texas, usc, fla, alabama, ok.
Would someone please write an article telling this stupid fan base they are not an elite program and everyone else laughs at them.
30 years since a nat champ. 5 teams in the sec are on a higher status than you. You are 6th in your own damn conference. There are some big time delusional morons in that fan base.

What the voices in my head told me is that UGA will make a run for Smart. UGA doesnt want to get into a drawn out bidding war with bama. Kirby knows the job is his if he wants it. If this falls through , then Grantham is the man. Now I will take the tin foil off my head.

Stupid Dawgs, not a lot of teams or coaches have won 90 games in 9 years. UGA fans are not dillusional enough to say that this year we are elite. Even elite teams have down years, USC has four losses this year, Oklahoma has 5 losses, etc. Three BCS bowls over the last nine years is tied for second in the SEC over this same span. Stop trying to paint UGA as a mediocre program. The stat on ESPN that shows Mark Richt with the fourth highest winning percentage in the nation in the same span, so with your logic UGA must be 6 or seventh best in its own conference.

I had previously thought that Jon Tenuta was great. However, while one season does not make or break you, Jon Tenuta’s defense at Notre Dame was terrible this year.

Its Kirby folks, UGA has put these names out there brilliantly so Kirby can focus on Texas. Mark it down. I bet the AD office just laugh silly when guy like Shultz write this stuff.
By the way, after seeing how awful A&M was last night, my guess is Bama could win w/o any caoch’s in the Nat’l title game. Big 12 must be just awful. UT beats A&M by 10, UGA beats them by 24…..????

This is a freakin TRAIN WRECK!!! Marky Mark, Quit swingin for the fences!!! Just get a solid DC from a small school. You have to remember that this job is going to be a tough sell, and not many big names will bite. Play the hand you are dealt, suck it up and hire a guy from a smaller school. Trust me it will work out better and save a lot of embarrassment in the end.
