This was how Bill Belichick looked after Devery Henderson's 75-yard touchdown catch. OK, you are now free to laugh.
The New Orleans Saints just put up 38 points on the New England Patriots, who had been allowing the second-fewest points in the NFL (16.4). So what are the Saints going to do the Falcons in two weeks — and at what point would it be considered a felony?
If you missed it, New Orleans body-slammed the Patriots, 38-17, Monday night. They’re 11-0. When they were only 6-0 going into a game against the Falcons, I laughed at suggestions they might go undefeated. I now laugh at myself. (Feel free to join in.)
The Saints are the best team in the NFL — better than the 11-0 Indianapolis Colts, better than Brett Favre and Minnesota (10-1). And about those signs of seeming slippage in recent weeks: It’s now clear they were only bored, waiting to be challenged.
The Saints did something Monday teams just don’t do: They turned Bill Belichick, the defensive genius, into a punchline. Drew Brees threw five touchdowns to five different receivers. After each one, ESPN cameras focused on Belichick, who had that, “I never saw that on film” look on his face.
I’m pretty sure Darnell Dinkins alone will will be worth a few weeks of therapy for Belichick. He scored the Saints’ fourth touchdown. He’s a third-string tight end. He didn’t even have a reception before Monday. At what point does coach Sean Payton start pulling players out of the crowd?
Nineteen different Saints have scored touchdowns this season. They were so impressive that even two of the NFL’s most egomaniacal players weighed in on Twitter during the game. From Ocho Cinco at 10:37: “Okay am I tripping or are the Saints making this look real easy.”
From Terrell Owens at 10:40: “Man! The Pats r gettin thumped!!! These ppl need 2 start giving Brees his just due!! Enuff of Brady/Manning already!!! I’m jus saying!! Smdh.” (I had to Google “SMDH.” Stands for shaking my damn head. Now I feel cool.)
So the question of the day: Will the Saints go undefeated? Yes. (Now watch them lose to Washington next week.) Their remaining schedule: Redskins (3-8) and Falcons (6-5) on the road, Dallas (8-3) and Tampa (1-10) at home, then Carolina (4-7) on the road.
I realize the Falcons-Saints is a rivalry game. But with the Falcons so beat up offensively, and below-average defensively, I have a hard time seeing them keep pace with the New Orleans offense. Unless the Saints get tired. Very tired.

Saints are obviously playing very well. With the injuries we have had and the modest momentum we have generated this year, it could be a blow out.
Than, again, I thought that Tech +7 and the over were the locks of the decade.

Jeff, as usual you have the best commentary, and funniest, from the AJC all the time. Tonight, I really liked how Coach B went all Roberto Duran with 5:38 to go and said “No Mas” by pulling his starters. The Saints are for real – hopefully on when the Saints come here it will be like the old days with the charter busses showing up from New Orleans and Saints fans dancing around the Ga Dome with the umbrellas. Deranged and confused should be the new moniker for Atlanta sport fans… Enjoy this special season in the Big Easy… You have to be able to cover people to beat them. That is the one thing the Falcons simply can not do… They still have the Cowboys (albeit it is in N.O.) and Carolina always gives them trouble in Charlotte. Sean Payton will have some interesting choices to make. Enjoy you LONG WEEK Jeff Schultz…

The New Orleans Titanic will meet it’s iceberg this season and will go down for the loss. It is very rare for a team, no matter how well they have played, to finish the season undefeated in the NFL.
Unfortunately, the Falcons are highly unlikely to heat up enough to qualify to be that iceberg as Drew Brees is going to light up the virtually non-existent Atlanta secondary for 500 yards.
The Falcons could have very well had a chance to play spoiler for the Saints this season were the secondary not so unbelievably sorry. You had better fix this, Mr. Dimitroff, or these Falcons will stay the lamest of ducks on defense.

Those Saints’ receivers going up against Chris Houston, Christopher Owens, Brent Grimes, Eric Coleman and Thomas DeCoud? Let me see. I just don’t see it happening for the Falcons. But let’s not look past this week’s game with the Eagles, who I think the Falcons can definitely beat at home.

McKenzie and McAllister picked up in the last two weeks? We stick with what we have and people like this are out there. Moves like these put teams in a position to contend. We scramble each week to hide weaknesses in the secondary. It just makes you wonder.

The only chance the Falcons have at beating the Siants is with Chris Redman at QB at least he can make all the throws and don’t limit the offense. If Matt Ryan played the entire game against the Bucs, the Falcons would have lost. Matt Ryan have been exposed, he cannot stretch the field vertically or laterally. His arm is too weak. Matt Ryan looks like the second coming of Danny Weurful.

I think it’s best for a team in the NFL to have a loss in the regular season, so they can refocus and finish strong – winning the last game. I’ll bet the Patriots wished they had a loss 2 seasons ago, before losing the last game to the Giants. The stress of trying to win them all is too great, evidently. Beside that, I’m an old Miami Dolphin fan from south Florida who wants their perfect season to stay in tact.

Yesterday the New Orleans media were talking about the Saints being a DYNASTY. Ha ha ha. Win a playoff game or 2 first. IF you Saints make it to the Super Bowl I have a piece of friendly advice for you: Make sure the team’s “Man of the Year” is holed up, under armed guard, in his hotel room. Trust this Falcons fan on that.

I remember in the preseaon posting that the Saints were going to be much better this year with Greg Williams running the defense. The offense was in place they just needed a proven defensive coordinator to bring toughness to the squad. They already had some talent on that defense but no toughness.
Some of you Falcons bloggers that were too bsy drinking the Kool Aid being chilled with “Matty Ice”, tought your team was a lock to win the South and on to the Super Bowl. You haad visions of having the season that the Saints are having. Well, the Saints acually improved theior team while the rest of the losers in the South did nothing. The entire NFC south was weak last year and had inflatted records due to a south schedule last year. The Saints were the only team that recognized that and improved. Now look at the rest of the losers. The Falcons are done, barely beat a terrible Bucs team. Morris didn’t looked over matched against the Falcons now did he SHULTZ and the Bucs will beat them in Tampa. Falcons will lose their last 5 games, take it to the bank.

I also remeber posting that the biggest lost of the off season for the Falcons was Foxworth. They did not offer him a decent contract. The Falcons put all their money in players on offense to try to prop up their weak armed QB. Well, it is not working to well now is it.

We could have…and should have without a miraculously tip-ball RZ INT…beaten this circus on their own field. And we may as well play defense with 8 men on the field. everything that can possibly go the Saints way, starting with their schedule, has done so. All of their more challenging games have taken place in the friendly confines of that Dome. Naturally their last significant challenge – Dallas – is there as well. Dallas however has one thing they have yet to face: a pass rush from hell. Its easy when you have time. not so much on your back. I’d also be surprised if that air-it-out offense doesnt flutter in a december charlotte wind. vikings are hands down the best team going right now. New orleans only hope is home field, and even then, Minnesota will make a mockery of them. Personally I’d rather see it that way. Maybe it’d shut up the obnoxious who-dat nation to get blistered on their own field.

Is Tony Gonzalez the Falcon’s version of Moses Malone. Moses came in as a top center in the league, but he sucked up all the play in the paint and was not additive to what Wilkins and Willis were able to do prior to his arrival. I wonder if Gonzalez has had the same effect on the Falcon’s passing game?

Dunno bout the undefeated season. At some point you think Peyton will rest some of the starters looking toward the playoffs. I’ve never understood that philosophy, thinking that it blows up the chemistry you have created all season and you might not get it back.
If there is a 1st string stumble on the horizon for NO, I’m gonna lay my $ on the long shot and say Tampa Bay cleans their broom.
And forget the superbowl this year. The game to watch is NO vs Minn.

A big question in this is why Thomas Dimitroff didn’t take a chance on Chris McCalister when he had it.
Tye Hill is not progressing. Tye Hill cannot play period. His best days are behind him…. in college. He does not even resemble an NFL player at this point.
All that said. I’m more concerned with the Turner injury than the Ryan toe. I think Chris Redman can matriculate this offense.
ALso, if the Coy Wires play with the kind of effort they did in New Orleans I think it’s premature to expect them to just blow us out at home because the personell matchups are bad.
The Falcons can absolutely win the next two games even if no one gives them a chance. It’s the NFL and the Falcons are a pretty good team even with the injuries. THey have plenty of capable players they just have to play well on the OL and DL specifically and just hold up at CB where they are dramatically under staffed.

I still have Faith in the coaching staff.
I wish TD would have brought in McCalister and maybe a few others as well but I know they were looking beyond this season… still. Tye Hill is a joke. A broken kneed McCalister would have been easily worth it.
Mckenzie I think had a handshake deal with the Saints while he rehabbed.
