With Georgia Tech loss, ACC struggling for attention again

This was the scene at last year's ACC title game in Tampa.

This was the sad scene in Jacksonville at the 2007 ACC title game. Attendance was announced as 53,212.

The ACC wanted to be the SEC. It wanted the money, the clout, the conference championship game, the TV contracts and pollsters to give mid-level ACC teams the benefit of the doubt because, well, they were in the ACC.

But once again, the ACC looks like a souffle that keeps collapsing.

Georgia Tech lost to Georgia Saturday. Clemson lost to South Carolina. So both halves of next week’s ACC championship game in Tampa lost to mid-level SEC teams that are headed to third-tier bowl games. That’s not how a conference gets money or clout or a big TV contract or the benefit of the doubt.

Meanwhile, the SEC title game matches No. 1 Florida vs. No. 2 Alabama.

While Tech coach Paul Johnson tries to figure out how to motivate his players after Saturday’s lost to the Dogs, ACC commissioner John Swofford needs to figure out how to spin this almost annual disaster into a positive. Good luck with that.

The conference has never received the marquee Miami-Florida State match-up it was hoping for when it expanded and split into two strangely divided geographic divisions (Atlantic and Coastal). Here’s the ACC’s brief championship game history:

♦ 2005: The first game has been the high point. It was a good game (FSU beat Virginia Tech, 27-22), was well attended in Jacksonville (72,749) and TV ratings that exceeded the SEC and Big 12 title games.

♦ 2006: Tech and Wake Forest were the surprise finalists and played a dreadful, touchdown-less game (won by Wake, 9-6). That year, just as this year, the Jackets were coming off a season-ending loss to Georgia. Announced attendance on Jacksonville dropped 10,000 (62,850).

♦ 2007: Two teams from the distant north (Boston College and Virginia Tech) caused attendance to continue to plummet. The No. 5 Hokies won, 30-16,  so at least it gave the conference a highly ranked team going into the bowls. But then Virginia Tech was upset by Kansas in the Orange Bowl.

♦ 2008: The game was moved to Tampa. But it was the repeat matchup the ACC couldn’t afford. This time, B.C. and VaTech drew only 27,360 — which means half of the tickets distributed/sold weren’t even used. The Hokies won, 30-12. Not that anybody noticed.

♦ 2009: This week’s losses and the economy likely will hurt attendance. Regardless, the game would’ve garnered a lot more attention if Tech and Clemson were coming off victories.

Why don’t they move the ACC Championship game to a more centrally located city? Tampa is kind of far for most teams.

Tough place to have this game unless your school is in Florida. Clemson will bring some folks. Question is how many? Until they figure it out the ACC CG will never be on the same planet as the SEC CG. First prediction: GT 45 Clemson 24

First they should move the game to Atlanta. That would improve attendance. If that doesn’t work then the ACC should drop football.

This is embarrassing. The talent discrepancy between the SEC and ACC is ridiculous. Georgia simply lined up and pounded the ball at Tech last nite, and Tech is probably the best team in the ACC. And Georgia lost to Kentucky.

If you hold an ACC championship game and no one is there to see it, does it make a sound? But anyway, does anyone really care? Go to the Georgia Dome next week if you want to see the real deal regardless of what SEC teams play. The SEC championship outshines any league championship and BCS game without a doubt.

Moving the game to Atlanta seems improbable–they’re hosting the SEC game on the same day. Don’t see how a double-header could work. Still, moving to a more central location seems in order. Maybe Charlotte?

And, as long as we’re wishing and hoping, maybe some better teams to play in it.

Geogia Fans! Whoa! We need to get a life, for we didn’t accomplish a darn thing except beat a mediocre Tech team that has even less defense than we do- and I wasn’t sure that even to be possible.

Rather than act like a bunch of teen age jerks, let’s concentrate on getting competitive within our own conference, where it counts.

As in UT, Kentucky, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, et al. Tech had their “15 miutes of fame”, and they stretched it into 365 days. You got to admire that only a mathematician or an engineer could do that.

Hopefully, UGA has bigger fish to fry. However, I still hope that they- Tech- win out. And in case you didn’t notice, giving the devil their due it was a darn good game. They are getting better and should only continue to improve.

Let’s mind our manners and don’t show our respective asses by wearing a red and black cellophane suit.

Tech won in Athens (since I’ve been counting) in
1984, 1990, 1998, 2000, 2008; and won in Atlanta
only in 1985, and 1999.

So when Tech beats Georgia, it’s more likely to be

I only know two ACC fans and asked both to explain the conference’s divisional alignment. Neither of them could. The SEC divides naturally East/West, but the only natural way to divide the ACC would be North/South. But they couldn’t do that because FSU and Miami would be in the same division. I suspect they just drew names out of a hat.

OK. Yes Georgia was the better team last night. Tech was flat, de-energized, and disconnected. That is unacceptable for this Game. We should have no problem getting pumped for this game. Looks like the players fed right into the ajc hype. Yes, we have more important games to play, but this was disappointing to say the least. That being said, UGA played as I thought they would. They played with reckless abandon. They played like a wouded dog. They played with nothing to lose. They were the better team last night. NOW! Let’s remember. Tech is going to the ACC championship. as much crap as the Dawg nation will throw at it, it is still our Championship. We win, and we go to Miami. We need to get ready for this game. Clemson will be ready. Will we? I really think CPJ might have been sending a message to his players, the media and UGA. We want to win very game, but this is not the end all to our season. We didn’t question CPJ’s play calling when it worked, we shouldn’t question when it doesn’t work. By the way puppies, you guys totally dominated us last night. You played your very best game that you could play. Thanks to your SEC referees, you went from 80 something yds/game in penalties to 39 yards in this game. We played the flattest game possible. We played without our starting DT and QB (thanks to some dirty ball; Deny it all you want. that was dirty). wWe gave you every opportunity to BLOW us out. Yet in the end, we had a chance to win. We had a chance to totally demoralize you. Yes, we failed. But tell me what that says about the future of this rivalry. Dawgs beware. Whether you want to admit it, or are scared to realize it, Tech is here to stay. CPJ is here to stay. Your best beat our worst. Enjoy it while it lasts. What a great win. I have read enough from these local writers about how Paul Johnson is possibly the greatest coach the flats have ever seen. Tech is respected nationally and it’s fun to beat a good tech team. The future is still bright(Mutt and Jeff). Fellow Dawg fans, please win with class and don’t become that which you hate.

Keep it in perspective folks. GA Tech was not ready in the first half. Call it the effects of two weeks off or being over confident. In the second half Tech was the better team which is further supported by their continued top ten ranking in the BCS. The lastest BCS poll is out and GT is # 10. So GA can use their win as comfort while they freeze at the Music City Bowl but if the two teams played 10 times GT would win 7-8 of them.

Congrats bullpups!

To fellow Tech fans – deep six this one, it is over, and the TECH /Bullpup game of today does not yield the dividends of a championsip game!

As far as the SEC and ACC go ……who cares?

Georgia is a lower tier SEC Team and upset GT in a rivalry game….little discussed is the absence of the GT Quarterback – that was the true game changer….. and even with that he came back, somewhat hobbled, and nearly pulled off the comeback. This is what makes college footbal fun and painful.

See you next year in Athens – I look forward to adding to my hedge collection.

Tech fans are such douchebags. No, Tech wouldn’t win 9 times out of 10 – they haven’t. And nobody cares about the All Crap Conference “championship” and no one really gives a crap about the Orange Bowl.

And need I remind you, don’t count your eggs before they hatch. C.J. Spiller is going to run it down your throat… so you won’t have to worry about an Orange Bowl bid… think Gator bowl. And you’ll lose that one as well.

The ACC Championship game needs to be played in Charlotte. It needs to be in a central location. Charlotte is a fairly easy drive for everyone but FSU, UM and BC. You can’t hold it in ATL as the Dome is booked for the SEC.

Joe Fan – There is a reason that the game is 2 halves – points scored in the 1st count just as much as points scored in the 2nd. GT was lucky to only be down by 14 at the half. GT never stopped UGA’s offense. UGA deserved to win.
Having said that, GT had an opportunity to win at the end but couldn’t capitalize on it.

Jeff – you just proved your argument and probably didn’t mean too. Saying UGA/USC are going to 3rd tier bowl games? one of those 2 are going to the chickfila bowl. Right?

So isn’t that where the ACC sends its best non-BCS team?? So the same bowl has the top tier of one conference and and 3rd of another? And doesn’t the SEC usually win those games? (see LSU, Auburn, UGA last 3 years).

Dearest Seattle Jacket:

First, shut up with the “dirty play”- the play was a routine play except that the tackler’s bodies fell on Nizbutt’s ankle. He reacted because he was in pain and the pile wasn’t getting off of him quickly enough- no one grabbed the ankle.

Excuses demean you- SEC officials? Without your DT and QB? Boo hoo. The best player on EITHER team, AJ Green, sat out the entire game. We don’t want to hear it.

Yes, big mouth Thomas inexplicably dropped the last pass. I’ll make a deal with you, we’ll give him the catch if you will give the dropped TD pass to Wooten back to us. Don’t whine because “I’m as good as the AJC says I am” Thomas choked; his coach choked on the 3 calls before that. Again, the excuses make you look like a wuss.

Yes, CPJ is here to stay. Would that be the same CPJ that panicked and called the 3 bombs with just less than 2 minutes left? Or the same CPJ who forgot to install a 2 minute drill? You should stop believing the AJC- Johnson has won in the Southern Conference, at independent Navy and in the ACC with a gimmick offense. That means he has yet to do ANYTHING in a real conference.

“Your best beat our worst”? You have it backwards.Your best in a decade beat UGA’s worst in a decade. That was 8 of the last 9. We are trembling in Athens, for sure. And if you think “Willie Martinez is the best D coordinator in the land”, he’ll be available by the end of the week. Funny, I missed the Martinez bandwagon; you must have imagined that while you were imaging that you had a real woman last night. In fact, a failed DC managed to stop your Pop Warner offense.

Yes, Yech plays in the A She She championship next week; the winner gets a “5th Place, SEC East” Trophy. If you want to save some travel money, we have some high school stadiums down here that will hold the crowd.

Finally, the winner should enjoy the Orange Bowl; I hear that the BCS is giving the A She She’s bowl spot to the GHSA Region 1-AAAAA Champion next season. Something about raising the quality of the teams in their bowls.

A lot of folks watch the game cheer and throw as many insults as they can. I watched a nervous coach win a close game and refused to believe they won until the clock ran out. I saw him grab PJohnson and said something lengthy to him. Immediately afterwords he talked on ESPN, never smiling, still stern as when the game was on. I also remember what he said, and that his team just beat one of the best teams in the country, turned and walked away. He wanted this game and he wanted it bad, and did what he had to to win it, including changing his offensive strategy to something he’s never run a Georgia for a whole game, a devastating running attack. Is the ACC the SEC, no and they never will be, so maybe this yearly comparison should stop. They’ve have a chance for 3 of their teams to win 10 or more wins this year and 3 others to win 9. This is as good as it ever will be, but understand this that in future years 3 of those teams will be making a run into the top 10 on a regular basis.

First the country needs to care. They don’t. The SEC, Big 12, Big 10 (sissy conference without a conference championship) is college football. Add a few more teams and that is it. The ACC. Weak conference, weak teams, small stadiums (except Florida State and Clemson who should wake up and beg to get into the SEC). That Georgia Tech and Clemson are even given the chance to go to a BCS Bowl is silly. The ACC may want to be the SEC, but it will NEVER happen. If you took Tech or Clemson and put them in the SEC they probably wouldn’t qualify for a bowl.

2. GA Tech is going to their conference championship game. Ugay is staying home.
3. GA Tech is going to a BCS bowl, or a major bowl. Ugay is going to Shrevport?
4. GA Tech has 10 wins this season, with more to come. Ugay cannot spell “ten” – they think it is the metal on their roofs, “tin”.
5. GA Tech is ranked nationally with a 10-2 record and is being discussed on ESPN. Ugay is not on anyone’s radar.
6. PJ is in his second year with great success using players recruited for a pro-style offense.
7. MR has a declining program with systemic problems throughout.
8. The SEC has two dominate teams in AL and FL. The rest are just the rest. (Are you idiot ugay fans really riding the coat tails of AL and FL? LOL!!!)
9. The ACC has great parity with a few teams slightly ahead of the rest.
10. SEC fans are cocky, arrogant, narrow minded, loud mouthed, sore winners, sore losers, red neck, idiots – I refer you to the posts on this blog from them as evidence.

Explain to me how you could go from worst to first in penalty yards in ONE WEEK? great parctice? CMR’s pledge that penalties will get you bench time? Give me a Break. AJ Green was missed by you guys, and our guys relaxed due to it. I admit that. But you slam Thomas for being a mouth? I seem to remember him flat out embarrasing your corner on the long run. And OUTRAN Jones on that play. Dwyer had a bad night. Ingream from Alabama had a bad day Friday. That happens when you are the defenses key ALL GAME. As far as Dirty, look at the tape my friend. Yes the pil;e fell on him, but the tackler did twist his body even more on the ground. Why do you think Anthony Allen came up grabbing your thugs off the pile.
Yes your worst in a decade beat us last night. Problem is where do you go from here. Do you think Murray is the answer? Kid doesn’t even understand half of the playbook. That’s Richts OWN WORDS! He was here in the spring and fall, and doesnt get it. He will be OK, but he isnt the answer. Martinez did get out of his own way last night, and I hope it saved his job. Our best in a decade was bad last night. And just think our decade will only get better. I expect this state to be better for it. Both teams in the National spotlight year in and year out can do nothing but good for all of us. I respect Richt and UGA, but idiots like you Paul give the whole Dawg nation a bad name. This blog has become a sad display of pitiful ugay fans. And anyone wonders why Tech fans retaliate at all? Just read the messages on this blog from the ugay fans!

Most do not see reality in the face. Most don’t understand sports at all. And, I can gather that most have a maturity level below 15 yo and an IQ of below 100.

Yes, ugay beat Tech last night. Does that make ugay ACC champ? Oh really?

Yes, Kentucky beat ugay. Does that make Kentucky’s football program superior to ugay? Oh really?

You should at least use some reasonble stretch of logic when making your ‘claims’. Otherwise you just continue the knowledge that ugay fans are idiot red necks.

1970Dawg,

Prime example of an idiot ugay fan! Just because some group publishes some projection of who “might” be selected in next years first round does not mean at all that said player “will not” be returning. How completely stupid of a statement is that?

Did you really attend ugay? You need to go back and try again to get some sort of education – or your money back!

Say What: How can you even argue with that? We were as flat as a pancake. You had nothing to lose… Look I am tired of arguing with Brick Walls. Yes you beat us. It’s called and upset. It’s called Any Given Saturday. Enjoy it. The past speaks volumes. I can’t argue with the fact that UGA wins most of these games. I can’t argue the fact that UGA has more top tier Athletes than Tech. But the fact still remains. THIS GAME WAS YOUR SEASON. Congratulations. Now, you get to sit home till Dec 22nd and play your Music City Bowl against UNC or BC. I wish you luck. BUt this was one step in our progression. Yes it is a goal to beat UGA. It’s a goal to go undefeated. We didn’t acheive that goal. Now we have to get ready to go for the bigger goal. ACC Championship, and Orange Bowl. Throw rocks all you want. Enjoy your win. Show the type of CLASS fans you really are.

Good upset win 4 you. Let me try to get you guys to understand the view from Techs side. Tech has gone 6, 7, 8 seasons loseing to UGA.When our guys win one its BIG. Most reasonable Tech fans know the ACC does not match up with the SEC in fan base and big bucks to support the sports teams. Last year Tech and that offense slipped up on you guys. Not this time. UGA beat Tech by the same way most SEC teams win, Not cheating refs. Not bad playcalling, not a lack of good coaching. They won by overpowering Tech. Big front line, big power running backs. Look at Fla. Look at Bama. You guys can’t tell me that when you beat UFLA. (and you will) after a long dry spell some of your fans are not gonna be as loud and obnoxious as any fans anywhere. Everybody thinks everyone else fans are the worst. We all have our dumb azzez don’t we? Good luck next season, (except for that last game)

I’ll let the Georgia crowd run off at the keyboard. They won. We didn’t. To the victor goes the spoils. I show class win or lose but not everyone can possess my moral fabric. ;)

What I am interested to see, and all that matters at this point, is how CPJ and the team react from here. The Georgia game is over with. It’s done. Can we regroup or will we let one disappointing loss turn into another? The next game is the most important in CPJ’s tenure.

I can argue that the ACC championship teams were beaten by two LOWER tier SEC teams. Ranking the SEC

FLA
BAMA
LSU
TENN
OLE MISS
KENTUCKY
UGA
S CAR
ARK
AUBURN
MISS ST
VANDY

Two teams from the bottom half, and you can argue where Ark and Auburn should be positioned also. To turn the tables, that would be like Wake Forest and North Carolina beating FLA and BAMA on the same weekend. Ain’t gonna happen.

And if they were flat you got a #7 team in the country with a lot on the line that has coaching issues. Kind of like that LSU game last year huh, moron. One more thing and I’ll shut up: (ok, well two)

1) I feel bad for Bebe Thomas. I’m sure he’s thinking he cost them the game. He didn’t.

2) I can’t help but feel a little good for Joe Cox. Taking him out of the mix probably helped Georgia win last night but still, a kid who dedicated so much of himself to the program deserves a shining moment. i agree with you tech tony. they are just kids. You never know about 18-21 yr old kids. I hated to see tech go down but i knew if they did that it wouldn’t mean a hill of beans as far as a bowl game goes for us. It hurts but i know things are gonna be good at tech. Tech may have looked over Georgia a little bit i think and that falls in the coaches hands. Georgia had a little more to play for and kudos to them for taking advantage of a small defensive line and just crushing them up the middle and making the plays they had to play to win the game. I had just as soon not have a buy week before the UGA game because look at what happened in last years game. same scenario. It can kill your rhythm. It’ll be an interesting game to watch next week between tech and clemson with both teams coming off hard losses to their rivals. we’ll see who wants it more. So congrats to UGA when not hardly anybody thought they could win, they pull out a big one.

Tech People have probably experienced this moment themselves, but for the Dawg supporters on this blog, let me tell you why Tech fans hold so many of your fans in such low class regard.
I was at the game last night with my son and daughter in the upper deck of the North stands. A family of Bulldog fans sat in front of us. A mother, father and 4 early teens, the mother began trash talking an older Tech couple below them, who shortly after the first quarter got up and left telling the people around them” These people are the rudest we’ve ever run into in the 50 years we have been coming here.”
That display by the woman would have been bad enough, but when Josh Nesbitt went down with an injury late in the first quarter , she made the statement that personified her standing as a human being, I quote” That’s what that N++ger gets for going to Tech instead of Georgia” .
Later. when another Tech Player went down with injuries she said, ” Good, that N++ger deserved it”
I know this is not represenative of most Georgia Fans, but I have seen similar behavior in many of Georgia followers which are obviously not Georgia Grads.
This lady and her family: a Husband that said little between chewing his chaw and spitting in a cup other that to nod at his wife’s racial diatribes, the children who cheered the injuries along with their mother ,the mother that spent the entire game stuffing food and drink into her fat overweight body and face: only pausing long enough to yell another racial slur or applaude another Tech Injury.
So, when you jump on Tech fans as having a “we’re better than you” attitude, these are the Georgia fans we are talking about. Maybe, the Georgia faithful should put a call out to their fans to represent their favorite school in a more positive way, if they want a more respectful relationship with Fans from other schools. You are perceived by how you act!
Oh, one last thing, before you write this post off as another wimpy, nerd Tech fan post, understand I am a former cop that would have no problem taking on fans physically or verbally, but I know the difference between being civilized and not, something this family does not.

It is funny that all those fans that were barking last night after the game were the same ones who were walking out of Sanford last week with 2 minutes to go and the thugs down by one touchdown and 2 minutes left with posession of the ball. Talk about fair weather fans . I’ve seen it all now.

ccrider, I can say the exact same thing about a GT fan I encountered at last years chicken bowl. This Tech fan was so drunk and abusive that his wife was apologizing to all those around her and eventually he got around to calling her a bit%n and slapping her in the face. He was escorted from the stadium by APD. Tech has theirs too.

Louis Skolnick, you miss the whole point. Compaired to the elite of the SEC, Georgia is at best middle of the pack, maybe lower. We know that. Duh. Tech, however, is supposed to be elite ACC. Based on the game I saw last night, Georgia was slightly better, on offense & defense. And yea, your reciever dropped a pass on 4th down he should have cought, but Wooten #17 for Georgia, dropped an easy TD as well. Did you see a different game???

You guys are twisted. I love GT , win or loose. They got beat last night and I give UGA credit for that. We are still a much improved team from a couple years ago. Are there any more excuses for Tech fans. All i keep hearing is our recruits are coming. Let me tell you, that your coach will ruin football at tech, with his high school offense, and his nonsense play calling. get a real coach, with a real offense, and you will rcruit better players. ask the michigan QB who left for arkansas, because he didnt want to run to win. tech will not elevate any higher than they are right now, they have peaked and watch it crumble as the “recruits” roll in. what a joke. only 5 plays in the playbook.

Uga fans are the most jealous fans in college football. While they are not looking at the big picture. All they have to be happy about is a 30 to 24 win a Tech which easily could have turn out differently out the end of the game. Uga fans are mad that the are 7 and 5 & should be 7 and 6 because of the sorry playing agaist Arozonia State and that the fact Tech is 10 and 2 and have a chance to play in major bowl while Uga eats pizza at the Papa Jhons or is it the burger bowl.

I watched Johnny ( Two Step Depp ) Dwyer be interviewed on WSB tv last night after the game and still on on historically funny Grant Field and he was humiliated and embarrased as he said meekly “the line, the line play was the difference on BOTH sides.” He knew that tech was in the pathtic ACC and they were given a physical whuppin by a very, very very mediocre UGA team.
Did he only get 33 yds? Over rated like CPJ and knowing that CPJ is about to bail out on tech is hillarious.

Please don’t start making excuses about not having your starting DT for the game or your QB for one quarter. We didn’t have our starting Cornerback, Brandon Boykin, or the best WR in the country, AJ Green. If Green would have played, UGA would have put up 44 and not 30 against the worst defense in the country. That is part of your option offense- the QB gets hit 90% of the time. It just showed you that you better get another QB in there after Nesbitt leaves because Jaybo Shaw sux. Our worst team since Richt has been at UGA, just beat your best team since Joe Hamilton was rolling joints on The Flats.

The recruits ARE coming yomama! And as far as the option not working it is like any other offense. If you don’t run it right and make the correct reads and blocks then it won’t work. Just like I- formation offenses and shotgun offenses. Tech was definately off last night but i think Georgia had a lot do with that too. Everybody has those games. Believe me, this is not gonna be like the Gailey era. Tech is gonna win their share of game against you guys and you all know it. It is unique and hard to prepare for. 10 out of 12 games you are gonna have large yardage production. I believe in Johnson and i believe in his system. It’s simple. It works. Georgia did a great job against it last night and kudos to them. I think that most of these recruits they have are from the state of Georgia and that is awesome that he is recruiting the state and being successful. Tech is in good hands. I still dont know why he threw 4 times last night on that last drive when he was so successful running the ball in the second half. Had plenty of time to run it. Oh well there is always next year. That is what you guys said last year didn’t ya?

UGA fans, you poor souls. Bring on another 8-4 season in 2010 and another year of moaning and groaning about the coaching. Willie bought himself another year. Enjoy the Gaylord Bowl.

UGA won fair and square, indeed. But if the shoes were on the other foot… If UGA was SEC-title bound and lost to Tech, they’d still be pumped about playing for the conference championship. Tech fans should remain optimistic. Tech will get to play in the Orange Bowl. When you go 7-5 and lose to Kentucky at home, you don’t get to play in the Orange Bowl. Or the Sugar Bowl. Or any bowl that matters, really.

UGA fans should be mortified by this win. It’s a bandaid on a hatchet wound of a program and none of your concerns from this season will be addressed. Kudos on the Pyrrhic victory.

Also, when TECH stomps ugag, TECH will undefeated in the sec this year with a 3-0 record!!

Why don’t you just come out and admit that this bullshiiiite about sec superiority is a MYTH!!!

The sec is the weakest that I have ever seen it in my lifetime…the sec has two decent teams and 10 patsies.

Anyone got a uga hat I can borrow? I have to wear one out in public at least once a week through Dec.! I don’t expect to hear from the more obnoxious bloggers anytime soon….unless, there are more stray dawgs running the streets on mopeds again….truly, I never understood how ANY of that was news worthy! I took my 10 year old to the UGA – tech game last night. After enduring the terrible pregame rap-fest & the hip hop crap throughout the game, I got a big kick out of questions. First he asked if the tech players were gangsters (see the player intros & the flashing of the gang symbols). Then he asked if that “stadium” was a real college football stadium! Lastly, he asked why tech’s coach was considered to be so good!

I have seen UGA play in every stadium in the SEC & many other venues (AZ State, Clemson, bowls), and NOTHING is as crappy as that piece of junk on North Ave. Their pregame videos SUCKED as much as their rushing game. Their video garbage during the game looked like snoop dog filmed it & SUCKED as much as their rush defense.

My favorite part, after taunting the hell out of their hopeless fans, was how fast the weiners turned off their scoreboards! literally 1 second after the game ended, the scoreboards were turned off!! What a classless piece of poop. Also, their stadium & everything surrounding it smelled like DAWG PISS!

Another side note to Richt: Please don’t let Brandon Smith run the ball again. He gets hit hard, he coughs it up…done it several times to us this year. Boykin is a much more stout return man(but I think he wasn’t 100% last night).

Wow, been out of town and figured it was too late to post, but you guys are still going at it.
First, I think we beat a good, well-coached team last night even without the best receiver in the country. Which means I have to eat some crow (gladly):
- Coach Richt- you had the team ready to play and they were pretty disciplined for a change.
- Bobo- With the exception of a couple of late 3rd down selections, you called a great game.
- Willie- (this one hurts)- great job with the defensive last night.
- Cox- you played within yourself and did a great job- largely due to the good playcalling.
On one point I wasnt surprised. We finally stuck with the run and showed we have 2 potentially great running backs. 300+ yards!
To Tech- you guys got a little ahead of yourself saying the tide had shifted and you were now the best team in the state, but theres no reason you cant kick the crap out of Clemson. I hope you do- it just makes us look a little better- which is no small feat this year.
And finally to UGA VII- we hardly knew you- but Damn Good Dawg!

I ask all UGA fans including myself to clean up our acts, enjoy this victory, support our DAWGS and act like winners that have been there before. Lets set an example for young and old alike that the Bulldog Nation is a cut above in every respect by respecting all as we all want to be treated. I challenge the Bulldog Nation that if we take the high road as fans and lead by example in what we say and do — great positive things will happen at UGA in the near future.
Our forefathers made this nation great by working to change things instead of bitching, cussing and complaining when things didn’t go their way and above all trusting in the good Lord above.

Now its we better worry bout our coaches….yada yada yada. You lost to a program in turmoil with player problems, coaching problems and who suffered a devastating lose last week. Not only did you lose the game, you got MAN handled…by men. AT by far is the best player on ur team, not Dwyer. Hey Seattle Jack-off,
Your comment about the UGA fans dipping snuff, I have a good bit of friends who are Tech fans and they are the biggest freakin’ rednecks I know. Whether you agree or not, every college team has redneck fans. The only ones who don’t are the Ivy League. Those Tech fans of mine would rather spend their weekend curled up in a deer stand with their other redneck friends instead of at home curled up on the couch with their wife.
As far as Richt’s comment about Murray only knowing about half the UGA playbook-that is because UGA actually has a playbook. GA Tech doesn’t have a playbook since Paul Johnson only has 5 plays. I would much rather have Murray on our team instead of that pathetic excuse for a QB like Jaybo Shaw. He is a joke and will get killed in 2011 if he is your starter. I saw him play at Flowery Branch and he is no better now than he was then. Keep making excuses for Dwyer having a bad night. He ran up and down the field on us last year and UGA had him in their sights then. We just basically took him and your O-line & D-line to the woodshed. We will have all but 1 starter back on the OL next year, along with Sturdivant back from injury, so bring your entire DL back. I just hope you guys have a big, strong, fast QB who can throw after Nesbitt leaves or you guys won’t beat UGA the next 4 years.
As far as UGA fans trash talking to GA Tech fans-those friends of mine who are Tech fans are the most obnoxious of any fans I know. So don’t sit here and say UGA fans are a bunch of trash talking mutts when your fans are just as bad. Every team trash talks about their rival. I am a UGA alum, and I will admit it, I wanted to win this game last night as bad as any this year.

TECH fan excuses….

It was only 6 points… you were totally dominated
You hurt our QB on purpose… grow up.. He played all but two series
The SEC refs cheat for ALA and FLA… They both would hang 50 on Tech
Tech beats SEC schools… yea Mississipp State and Vanderbilt with 8 turnovers and Vandy’s #1 QB out of the game
Who cares we are playing for the A-She-She Campionship… yea but nobody cares and you won’t beat Clemson
We’re going to the Orange Bowl… not really and if they could change their mind they’ rather have a 7 and 5 SEC team than a 10 and 2 A-She-She team.

Tech Engineer

Tech will never have the talent of teams like UGA, due to the significant differences in academics and admission standards. When Tech beats UGA, it is a big win, but when you can recruit these 5 star, half-illiterate players like uga does, it’s difficult to compete every year. But, Tech will still be in a real bowl game—the Orange Bowl, while ga gets stuck in atlanta in that minor bowl game.

BitDawgBarking, no, I mean 4….look it up on ncaa’s website….it clerifies that each team in a split gets credit for a full championship; CU got one in 1990 and TECH got one in 1990. THEY all add up to MORE than your dawgs…. now THAT’S the saddest thing I’ve ever heard of…. again, nice win! By the way, uga ONLY gets credit for the one in 1980.

By the time the bowls are over the ACC stands a very good chance of having 0 teams in the top 25. Happens every year. The bowl games weed you wannabees out. GT will be about #20 when Clemson beats them and after they inevitably lose their bowl game they’ll be out of the top 25. Happens every year.

BitDawgBarking

November 29th, 2009

Even the pollsters hate you wannabees but never will bees. GT isn’t even a blip on the college football radar screen and they perpetuate that by choking every single season when it gets down to the nut cutting. 38-3….30-24…history always repeats itself when you’re Georgia Tech.

BitDawgBarking

If you could get those practice teams off your schedule you might could win a game or 2 when they really count, huh macrotech? Those practice teams are way too tough for the girls from North Avenue. It ain’t where you start it’s where you finish. And Tech inevitably finishes out of the top 10. Just can’t handle those 5 loss practice teams. When’s the great PJ gonna fix that?

Now that you’ve pulled the leather helmet era NCs out of your arsenal, now tell us how all your football players are studying to be rocket scientists through that program that sends them over to Morehouse to take their more challenging classes. You maggots seem to always leave out the Morehouse factoid. But when the occasional Tech footballer does actually stay eligible and get a degree, does it say 1/2 GT degree, 1/2 Morehouse. What does Joe Hamiltons History of Technology diploma say? Honorary?

You are most definitely in the minority. The UGA defense would likely not have stopped the option from getting into the endzone. There was a minute and a half left – plenty of time. And if you’re going to throw, bombs were not the way to go. The bread and butter is the rushing option offense, and he abandoned it at the worst possible time.

I also don’t give a crap about conference affiliations…it’s the games between two teams that matter to me…again, nice win! However, I think it’s sad that a team that is as amazing as the pups are, has ONLY won one national trophy compared to such an inferior team….TECH! I recognize that Tech has some players that are only at Tech because they’re needed for football….they STILL have to manage a tougher than normal class schedule…not sure about your Morehouse reference….if it’s intended to be an insult, then your racism is SAD! Reading your posts…I’m not confident that college was much of a priority to you…whatever! The dawgs beat their instate rivalry last night… I hate it, but it is what it is. Yet more proof that the ACC should have stayed a nice, 8-team conference. That makes for a perfect basketball tourney and means every team plays every other team in football AND can still schedule 5 non-conference games. (As long as we are going back to the future, let’s get rid of that 12th game. Most schools, like Florida, only use it to play a cupcake at home and rake in more money.)

The Real Reality

November 30th, 2009
2:36 am

REALITY, let’s get our facts straight

1. UGA won the game … and despite it being a big deal, the score won’t be engraved anywhere, except correct in the Bulldog media guide next season.
2. GA Tech is going to their conference championship game … that no more than 27,000 people bothered to show up for last year.
3. GA Tech is going to a major bowl, if you consider the Gator Bowl a major bowl. UGA is going to the Chick-Fil-A bowl to trounce another ACC team.
4. GA Tech has 10 wins this season–and has topped out at that number. UGA will salvage its season with eight.
5. GA Tech is ranked nationally with a 10-2 record and CPJ is being dissed on ESPN as being an idiot of a coach. UGA will be on everyone’s radar once the defense gets a new coach.
6. CPJ is in his second year with great success using players recruited for a pro-style offense–and unfortunately, can’t get those pro-style athletes to complete a pass when it matters most.
7. CMR had a tough season with another rash of injuries, an inexplicable fetish with QB Joe Cox and a lame duck defense coordinator–and he still managed to knock off the Jackets in Tech’s best season in 20 years.
8. The SEC has two dominate teams in AL and FL. Unlike the ACC, which has no one’s coattails to ride.
9. The ACC has great parity with a few teams slightly ahead of the rest.
10. SEC fans are most definitely fanatical–and most definitely annoying when they rain on your premature coronation as the best team in the state – I refer you to the posts on this blog from Tech fans as evidence of such annoyance.

Those are the real facts.

These haters on this blog are the main reason I hated GT losing Sat nite – another opportunity for these bandwagon fans, MOST OF WHOM DID NOT ATTEND UGAY, to spew their venom. It makes me worry about, among many other larger reasons, the future of this country. Where is all this hatred coming from? You’d think some of these people could muster some perspective and realize that none of this matters at all. But true to their past behavior and their mentality, they can only muster enough consciousness to say Tech sucks, Tech suck, Tech sucks.

I’d rather my school’s football team (YES I ATTENDED AND GRADUATED FROM TECH, LIKE MOST TECH FANS) lose than be like the fans of the largest university in the state, some of whose football players major in Housing(?), and who have taken Household Kitchen Technology as part of their coursework (are these truly university-level courses?) Of course these types of schools are going to have better athletes – they are football factories that churn out mindless idiots at an alarming rate, and will continue to do so because their mindless idiot fans believe that football is all that matters.

Meanwhile, us Tech graduates will continue to design, build and manage all of the things (like roads, buildings, computers, automobiles, airplanes, space shuttles, satellites, etc.) that make it possible for people to live their lives and go to their football games and spew their hate.

Calvin, Seattle Jacket, and Reality:

I am a die hard Yellow Jacket fan, and have been one all my 30 years of life. I’ve never seen so many UGAY fans gloat about beating GT. Yes we lost, but at least we don’t have to wait 3 weeks to find out what sorry ass bowl game will accept us. Let’s see:

GT won 10 games, UGAY won 7, should be 6-6, but it’s cool.

GT is going to Tampa for the ACC title, in hopes of playing in the Orange Bowl in MIAMI. Where is UGAY going? only time will tell if any bowl will take a wounded dawg. Wait, I know of one, THE TOILET BOWL. LMAO

GT is still in the top 10 with 2 losses. Where’s UGAY?? no where near.

GT has had a winning record every year since 1992. UGAY had to beat us to get over the .500 hump with the losses to Kentucky and Tennessee, adding to the misery of getting bitch slapped by LSU, Florida, and Oklahoma State.

GT will not lose any underclassmen to the draft, I hope. Jonathan Dwyer, Bebe Thomas, and Derrick Morgan need to stay one more year for unfinished business (The revenge on the smelly Dawgs, and a run for the national title next year.) UGAY already will lose a quarterback, a top notch receiver in AJ Green, and half the defense will be gone.

So all my fellow Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket fans, don’t sweat the loss to UGAY because we have better things to do with our precious time, like PACKING FOR TAMPA AND MIAMI!!!

On November 29th, 2009 at 4:04 pm, you said the following, ” Man the intelligence level of some dogs amazes me even still.” I can understand why you would say that when addressing those who are superior to you, such as most of the Dawg Nation.

You also said:
“I appologize to the true Proud Dawg Nation who are true football fans, and are not trash talking little punks that give all of you a bad name. We have them, too. I wish they all would be banned from this forum.”

In case you haven’t noticed, YOU are one of the “trash talking little punks” you refer to. I agree with your last sentiment, that you should be banned.

GT Big Boss, class of 2003,

You’re right, we lost to some of the best teams in the country and we lost to some teams we probably should have beaten. But even in a down year, we still beat your best team in the last 19 years. You also show your lack of intelligence, as did many of your fellow poster, by bragging and boasting about games you haven’t won yet. You did that with UGA and now you’re doing it again, talking about packing for the Orange Bowl. And A.J. Green will be back next year. He’s only a Sophomore. If you went to Tech, the standards for engineers must not be as high as you guys like to brag about.
