I’m feeling Spurrier pulling this one out with his strong defense. As big a rivalry as that game is, I actually see Clemson looking ahead to Georgia Tech, which is something they can’t do.

Jeff, Time for my picks:

I usually stay away from predicting scores, but on the Tech vs Georgia matchup I can’t resist: Jackets win by a score of 49 to 24. Good game in the first half, Tech pulls away in the second half.

Auburn will make it difficult on Bama, but Bama wins, (But this could be an upset in the making) Florida will blow FSU away. Stanford sends the Irish back to the chapel for more prayer. I think the Razorbacks might pull a W out of the hat against LSU.

Falcons will win, and Turner will play. The Patriots will finally slow the Saints train down and post a digit under the L column in the NO stats. Thor spears a bear with ease. I think the Redskins may sneak up and bite the Eagles in the behind, I am not convinced this Eagle team is all that good. The Fish fry some Buffalo and make jerky on the road.

Mark Richt religion has nothing to do with his coaching ability. He is a very smart,good coach and great example to everyone. He needs to get a new staff and move on with winning the SEC. I believe he can and will improve the TEAM. I pull for UGA when UGA and GT are not playing each other and then I’m Tech all the way. I believe GT and UGA have two of the best Coaches around, we need to let them do their job. I hope we have a great game and no one gets hurt.

My chihuahuas just can’t get excited about this game. They’ve been sleeping a lot since the passing of Uga. It is their way of showing respect to a fallen hero. Without Uga stalking the sidelines on Saturday, they consider the game pointless. I do too. My inside sources (chi & huahua) have the skinny on UGA’s next defensive coordinator. They say it is about time that we wise up and Get Smart. I agree. We take Bammy’s defensive coordinator, ergo reducing their defense to a mere image of it’s former self and simultaneously transform a bunch of underperforming dawgs to bone chomping canines. JB – When Kirby Smart and Will Muschamp roamed the secondary for UGA, they played with a lot of football sense. They have both demonstrated that same ablity as coaches on the collegiate level. It would certainly excite the fan base at UGA to bring Kirby on as the D coordinator. I would keep Martinez as secondary coach. To me, UGA football heritage is defense and in the SEC, no defense spells l-o-s-e-r. I will say this appears to be Tech’s year. When I was a kid, my Dad would take me to watch Tech. By the time I entered H.S., I realized my future did not include Calculus, so I went to UGA. I’m one of those few dawg fans that pulls for both schools. Hey, it’s a free country (for now).

Discipline issues and being too loyal to upperclassman and his staff is what brought down Fulmer and Richt is following the same path. Bobo and Martinez and not going to beat FL, TN, AL any time soon. LSU you can simply because they have a bad staff and head coach too. LSU has Top 5 talent but play like 25 talent. GA, same thing top 15 talent but play like the 6-6 team you will be Sat Night. A simple question GA fans….why is Cox starting when you have Murray on campus? Nice to hear from a civilized Dawg fan. I agree with your posts about Kirby Smart – great DC. He also has a lot of roots in Athens and it would be a celebrated return. However, I suspect that Smart would return as the HC before he would make a lateral move from a soaring Alabama program. I’m sure his heart is with the Dawg program but it would be hard to move away from the euphoria and success of being at the top (or nearly so).

The Dawgs have had a great recent history and will no doubt rebound with the talent that you can recruit. I do think that Tech will be much more competitive in the future and I think that’s good for both programs. Good luck to you and the Dawgs (except this weekend of course).

Your strategy works except for one thing: Tech is the top team in the nation in time of posession because teams have not figured out how to stop the option. If UGA doesn’t stop the option then you will lose the time of possession battle, meaning that YOUR offense is going to be on the sidelines and will be forced to pass the ball to catch up with limited possessions. Cox will be critical in that scenario. So, UGA has three tasks to make your strategy work, first, stop the option/run, and then second, pound the ball on the ground to keep our offense on the sideline, and three, win the turnover battle. I’m not as sure about Georgia. The Dawgs may well have talent, but they’re terribly undisciplined. Remarkably, they rank 119th nationally in turnover margin and 116th in penalties per game. Chalk that up to plain old bad coaching. Richt will undoubtedly be fielding new coordinators next season, and unlike Oklahoma, he’ll be breaking in a new quarterback as well (presumably redshirt freshman Aaron Murray).

Richt is also dealing with much the same problem as recently deposed SEC coaches Phillip Fulmer and Tommy Tuberville: His competitors are catching up. Florida has separated itself considerably under Urban Meyer. Georgia Tech, which Richt beat each of his first seven seasons, is now a BCS contender. Tennessee — which has blown out the Dawgs two of the past three seasons — is quickly beefing up its talent level under Lane Kiffin. And Auburn, with whom Georgia wages a whole lot of recruiting battles, now employs its own renowned recruiter in Gene Chizik. Georgia may be considerably better next season, but so, too, could its primary rivals. I wouldn’t expect a quick fix in Athens.

60 – 9 Tech rolls …..

On a radio interview this week, CMR said that the defense would have to stay on assignment, stay disciplined, and tackle. They won’t just be able to knock the Tech players down. Fundamentals of football. Something that the Pups have struggled with all season.

Three days to prepare, coming off a particularly stinging loss, and dissed by the fans, all come together this week to make this game a real challenge for the Pups.

Meanwhile, Tech is rested, on a roll offensively, greatly improved on defense, and as demonstrated the past two or three games, has a passing attack to keep the defenses honest and not just camp out in the box. The pitch part of the option has been lethal against the teams who don’t defend the corners well, and the Pups have not handled the edges very well this year.

The areas where Tech is a little weak is in pass defense, and kick coverage. The areas where the Pups are strongest is the run and punting. The matchup this weekend favors the Jackets.

Tech will be focused, rested and ready to play and ready to break the string of losses at Bobby Dodd Stadium at the hands of the Pups. The Pups will come in with who knows what kind of mindset. If they are hyped and don’t stay disciplined it will not fare well for them. If they come in with a hangover from the Kentucky game, it could get ugly… and in a hurry. The UGA coaches will be the key to having the Pups ready… and that does not bode well either.

I predict, a fairly close game through the first half. Something like 10 to 7 or 14 to 10, with Tech holding the edge. The second half will be the real test for the Pup defense, and the third quarter may be the one that puts the Pups on their heels. Tech will pull away and some statement points may be made toward the end. Final score: Tech 49 Pups 24.

Keys to the game, Nesbitt, Dwyer, and Bay-Bay will have one of their best games, CPJ will out-coach CMR. The Pup defense will fold in the second half, and Cox will throw a couple of interceptions and get flustered… possibly early on; especially if the Jackets put pressure on him with some blitzing. Tech will win the time of possession battle by a good 10 to 15 minutes even though Butler puts them deep in their own territory with some good punts. Falling behind early will bring out the worst in the Pups lack of discipline and they will start commiting stupid penalties that will kill key drives ending their ability to stay with the Jackets and keep it close.

I could be wrong, but this is the picture that sets up based upon watching both teams all year. Georgia has had moments of great play with Auburn being their best game against a good opponent. The inconsistency of the Pups is what makes this game kind of hard to get a handle on as far as outcome. Tech has demonstrated that it is the better team, better coached and they are on a mission this year. UGA has been somewhat clueless all year and I don’t see them turning it around in this game, especially after being disrespected by their own fans in their own stadium before the outcome of the Kentucky game was settled. That will hang in the Pups minds and affect their play on Saturday, you just go hide and watch.

I think everybody looks at Nesbitt, Dwyer, Thomas, Ealey, Cox, Charles, and other offensive players as being the difference, but I feel like the O line of the Dawgs and the D line of Tech will make the difference. Ga. has got to keep the ball away from the Jackets. I thought the Dawgs line was nowhere to be found in the last two quarters against Kentucky and I thought they played as well as they had played all year the first half. I didn’t see any difference as much as Kentucky wanted it more. These Dawgs have got to learn what it means to finish the drill.

Win or lose, Georgia Tech fans are the biggest pile of scum in all of college football. Lose, which is mostly the case, and all they do is cry like little sissies about refs, calculus, and US News and World Report rankings. Win, which is literally a once in a generation occurance, and all of the sudden they are God’s gift to football and one of the greatest programs in the nation. Tech fans are simply bipolar. I attribute it to ignorance. Most of these idiots probably couldn’t tell you who Shawn Jones is. They have no sense of history. I would go so far as to say that the average Georgia fan knows more about Georgia Tech football than the average Tech fan. After all, they only fill up their stadium when we come to town and fill it up for them. They know absolute dick about their own program, yet pretend like they are college football experts when the planets are aligned in such a manner that their team is actually winning. They are the biggest bunch of blathering idiots I have ever seen in my life. If their heads weren’t so big they would probably float away because they are so full of hot air.

Some Georgia fans say they cheer for Tech when they aren’t playing Georgia. I am not one of them. Tech probably will not lose on Saturday, but let’s make one thing clear Techies. We will NEVER stop laughing at you. Tech fans are the worst excuse for sports fans on the planet.

Hey DH: All MY UGA friends are fine people. For Dawgfan to say such ugly things does not color all UGA fans in my book. Remember there is often quite a difference between Alumni and “fans.”

I am 60 years old and personally remember GT football back to 1959. I am well aware of the history going back much further. I think most Tech people are quite aware that there was a world before our time. I won’t turn and be nasty right back, but again, there is a difference between people who are alumni of an institution and those who simply adopt the program because they just took a shine to them. There are a boatload of UGA fans who never heard of Frank Sinkwich. This is true no matter where you go. Young people are not born with knowledge of history. Some are interested in studying it and some aren’t. Too say that Tech people are idiots is just ridiculous. People from YOUR school are smart and “ok.” Other people are not “ok.” I get it.

Hey “Bobbi Dud” – I don’t blame you for being proud of your coach. He is a genius and has done wonders for the Tech program. But he would probably be the first one to state that your comment is dumb. I’m not fan of GA Tech, but I have always admired who Bobby Dodd was and I’m thankful for the heritage of college football in our state to which is largely to be credited to Coach Dodd. As Georgians, we are all blessed to have guys like Bobby Dodd, Vince Dooley and some others who have been a help not only in bringing good football to the state of Georgia, but some character for young men to live by after they finish playing a game!

Always thankful for your support of the Jackets, Mr. Schultz, and would love to think that we will roll up alot of points (and 500+ demoralizing, soul-sucking yards) on the Dawgs. Again, however, we need to be very careful with this Georgia team. They will ride alot of emotion (and frustration) into this game and, I suspect, take an early lead on us (look for a few deep balls early in the game to try to take the wind out of our sails and put us on our heels a bit… they’ll probably hit one or two of those, even without Green…). While it is safe to assume that their emotion will also translate into several (if not many) untimely penalties and personal fouls, we need to absorb whatever they throw at us early, maintain our composure, stick religiously to our gameplan, and slowly grind them down and wear them out…

“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard…”, baby. On this point alone, a Tech win will send a great message that reaches well beyond this game and the rivalry. That said, however, it sure is nice to call this a true rivalry again…

I HATE UGA football. Never liked them, never will. The only thing I hate more is GT fans who complain that we should not hate UGA. I mean, what’s the fun in a rivalry if you don’t hate the other side!

That said, why can’t the haters on both sides be a little funnier? The lameness of the trash talk has really gotten me down. I do like some things:

1. Sonny Clusters!!! I usually go through every blog to read what exploits or stories he has going on.

2. Having someone call the other side dumb and misspell words. In a recent blog I saw 3 people spell the word “intelligence” wrong. That always gives me a kick.

3. Having people “call out” other people claiming they will kick their butt if they meet them in person. Is it just me or is it ironic that these people claim that others are just hiding behind their keyboards when responding by typing on their keyboards. (By the way, I’m 5’5” and weigh 250 lbs. I won’t run from an actual fight, but I wish I could!)

4. The ACC sux and the SEC is king. Paul Johnson is 5-1 against the SEC, but he only plays against the lower level teams. If the SEC is so good, why do you have so many bad teams? One of my biggest disappointments, other than the Miami game, is that Ponder got hurt and won’t play against UF. I would’ve liked the matchup between the SEC’s best team against one of our lower level teams this year with him in the game.

5. I’ve had to endure the past few years hearing how great Richt is. I’m glad to hear he was actually an idiot. Do you really think that he would start Cox if he thought that the other quarterbacks would win more games? It’s rare that a true freshman will come up big for a team, yet Dawg fans know better than the coach.

So THWG! And Dawg fans, keep hating Tech. I would be disappointed with any other reaction.

If Willie succeeds in shutting down BOTH Aubrn’s dual threat offensive genius AND Johnson’s 1 trick pony express, his job is absolutely safe.

Richt will realize 4 of the 5 losses came when Bobo’s O gave up 3-4 TO’s. Willie’s D has yet to give up a single 100 yard rusher this season. Normally, Richt wins 93% of those games.
