Predictions: Big win for Tech, big losses for Georgia, PETA

week13

A Massachusetts woman this week posted an ad on Craigslist seeking donations so that she could pay for her turkey’s eye surgery, which one of my professors back in Interpretive Journalism would say almost certainly indicates she doesn’t hold stock in Butterball, there’s no government option for poultry either, and at least one five-star recruit of the lunatic fringe managed to elude PETA.

Hello, and Happy Thanksgiving to all those at the top of the food chain. This would not include Lyndsey Medeiros or her pet turkey Jerry or PETA, which this week issued a news release that began, “Thanksgiving can be the scariest time of the year if you’re a turkey. More than 45 million of these fascinating birds are killed to disgrace Thanksgiving tables each year.”

"I can't see! I can't see!"

"I can't see! I can't see!"

Let me just say this: If turkeys had a choice, they’d be blasting our heads off, slapping us fascinating creatures on a platter next to the stuffing and yelling at their TV sets, “Why do I have to watch the Lions again!” That would be except for the one turkey seeking corrective lenses for her pet human, Jerry.

PETA has had a busy week. You probably read that the organization wants Georgia to replace the late Uga VII with an animatronic dog or a costumed mascot, because apparently a real bulldog’s heart just can’t take it. Dudes,  have you seen this team? No species can take it. It wasn’t an asteroid that caused the extinction of dinosaurs, it was a Willie Martinez game plan.

It’s about to get worse. The Dogs had a better team last season when Georgia Tech rang up 45 points. Losing to Kentucky doesn’t project improvement.  Real research: 26 turnovers have led to 102 opponent points.

Maybe it’s catatacts? No matter. It’ll be a Tech feast. Jackets cover 7.

I figure Auburn has no chance so they deserve a chuckle now. This is courtesy of the Wizard of Odds blogsite.

I figure Auburn has no chance so fans deserve a chuckle. Thanks to Wizard of Odds blogsite.

Alabama at Auburn: Tommy Tuberville lost to Alabama last year after thumping the Tide six straight years, so you can understand the booster pea-brains wanting to dump him because, well, it had been four years since he went undefeated. Strap in Tigers: It’s going to be a long bumpy ride with Nick Saban  in Tuscaloosa. Bammy covers 10 1/2.

FSU at Florida: With rumors circulating about the shuttle to South Bend, Urban Meyer told Gator Nation this week, “I’ll stay as long as they’ll have me.” Either that’s a clip-and-save moment for when he does leave or everybody in Athens just said, “Oy.” Florida covers 24 1/2.

Notre Dame at Stanford: The point spread on this game has jumped from 5 1/2 to 10 1/2. That happens only in cases of plague, locusts or Charlie Weis. Is it possible to relish a face plant any more than this? Cardinal covers the number.

Clemson at South Carolina: I know: There’s no stopping C.J. Spiller. I know: South Carolina hasn’t won a game of significance since Mississippi two months ago. But I still see, “Steve Spurrier vs. Dabo Swinney,” and think, “Tilt.” Poultry Payback! Gamecocks in an upset (but take the 3).

Arkansas at LSU: Bobby Petrino has won two straight SEC games. Stop the madness: Tigers cover 3 1/2 vs. Piggies.

Pros and Ex-Cons

Just getting ready in case the Falcons lose this game.

Just getting ready in case the Falcons blow this.

Sick Bay at Falcons: The Buccaneers are 1-9, fired their defensive coordinator this week and their offensive coordinator 10 days before the season. If  Falcons blow this, they might as well get lost in the self-help section at Barnes & Noble. Injury update: Coach Mike Smith lists everybody from the Hundred Years’ War as day-to-day, keeping within NFL policy. Falcons cover 12.

Patriots at Saints: The Saints (10-0) are trying to do what the Patriots did two years ago — the 16-0 part, not the choke-away-the-Super-Bowl-that-forced-me-to-live-out-of-a-cardboard-box-part. Actual factual: Tom Brady has five straight games over 300 yards. Take the 3, but New England wins this straight up.

Bears at Vikings: Brett Favre was 22 for 25 with four touchdowns last week against Seattle. If you wondered what it would take to make his season even better, the answer was Jim Mora’s defense. Vikes cover 10 1/2.

If football teams were restaurants, the Bills are a dump with an empty parking lot.

If football teams were restaurants, this is Buffalo.

Redskins at Eagles: The Skins are still missing running back Clinton Portis, who has a concussion. Portis says he is suffering from blurred vision and has seen six or seven doctors. Or maybe it was three or four.  Philly wins but take Washington and 9 1/2.

Dolphins at Bills: Bill Cowher, Jon Gruden and Mike Holmgren have said no, so now Buffalo is pursuing Mike Shanahan. I guess it’s commendable that the Bills want to shoot for the top in their coaching hire. But isn’t this sort of like “Steak ‘n Shake” trying to lure a chef from “Bones?” Dolphins cover 3 on the road.

Accounting Dept.

Last week (we won!):  9-2 straight up, 7-4 against the line.

So far, so feh: 92-40 straight up, 63-68 against the line.

This is the last game of the yr..so the numbers don’t lie..gatech defense is worse than ga’s..#46 total defense..ga #32…if uga turns the ball over..which is highly likely, they could get blown out..otherwise, it’s a tight game…bc neither teams defense is great..but uga’s is better..and that is really a fact

There are no “semarios” leading to a victory by the Dawgs on Saturday. Honestly, there simply are no semarios at all. However, I can think of various scenarios that will result in a good, even close game. Hell, you might even luck up and win the damn thing.

where have you tech people been lately, certainly not at grant field, or ow any blog’s,but you are finally coming out of the woodwork.

you have a very nice team with a very good coach.uga is in the down cycle that all teams go through, but we will be back…. who really knows for sure, it might even be saturday and georgia coaches come to their senses and plays ball control with your sorry defense.

hello mike bobo, you can beat tech by running the ball and keeping their offense on the sidelines.

Your strategy works except for one thing: Tech is the top team in the nation in time of posession because teams have not figured out how to stop the option. If UGA doesn’t stop the option then you will lose the time of possession battle, meaning that YOUR offense is going to be on the sidelines and will be forced to pass the ball to catch up with limited possessions. Cox will be critical in that scenario. So, UGA has three tasks to make your strategy work, first, stop the option/run, and then second, pound the ball on the ground to keep our offense on the sideline, and three, win the turnover battle. What’s the probability of that happening? Georgia is one of the worst teams in the FBS in run defense, time of possession, turnover margin, and penalties. How do you like those apples?

Enjoy the long downward spiral mutts.

I’m not as sure about Georgia. The Dawgs may well have talent, but they’re terribly undisciplined. Remarkably, they rank 119th nationally in turnover margin and 116th in penalties per game. Chalk that up to plain old bad coaching. Richt will undoubtedly be fielding new coordinators next season, and unlike Oklahoma, he’ll be breaking in a new quarterback as well (presumably redshirt freshman Aaron Murray).

Richt is also dealing with much the same problem as recently deposed SEC coaches Phillip Fulmer and Tommy Tuberville: His competitors are catching up. Florida has separated itself considerably under Urban Meyer. Georgia Tech, which Richt beat each of his first seven seasons, is now a BCS contender. Tennessee — which has blown out the Dawgs two of the past three seasons — is quickly beefing up its talent level under Lane Kiffin. And Auburn, with whom Georgia wages a whole lot of recruiting battles, now employs its own renowned recruiter in Gene Chizik. Georgia may be considerably better next season, but so, too, could its primary rivals. I wouldn’t expect a quick fix in Athens.

Look at all the little GT sissies crow. They finally found a coach (a former GA Southern man no less). He’ll be gone in 2 years or less to a conference that plays football on every Saturday before more than 30,000 nerds.

Dawgs stink but will not get embarrassed. CMR may have one last game of a lifetime effort and exterminates the bees. Regardless, Willie must go along with Bobo.

Contrary to some of the silly comments on this and other blogs, I’d like to wish the GT fans AND the UGA fans a Happy Thanksgiving. Saturday’s game will be a hard fought battle … it always is. Cheers to GT on a great season thus far, and cheers to UGA on a talented team that has simply had some difficulties this season and has not performed to their usual high play level. I, among many other level-headed and mature GT fans will welcome you to Grant Field on Saturday night for what we all hope will be a great game.

On a radio interview this week, CMR said that the defense would have to stay on assignment, stay disciplined, and tackle. They won’t just be able to knock the Tech players down. Fundamentals of football. Something that the Pups have struggled with all season.

Three days to prepare, coming off a particularly stinging loss, and dissed by the fans, all come together this week to make this game a real challenge for the Pups.

Meanwhile, Tech is rested, on a roll offensively, greatly improved on defense, and as demonstrated the past two or three games, has a passing attack to keep the defenses honest and not just camp out in the box. The pitch part of the option has been lethal against the teams who don’t defend the corners well, and the Pups have not handled the edges very well this year.

The areas where Tech is a little weak is in pass defense, and kick coverage. The areas where the Pups are strongest is the run and punting. The matchup this weekend favors the Jackets.

Tech will be focused, rested and ready to play and ready to break the string of losses at Bobby Dodd Stadium at the hands of the Pups. The Pups will come in with who knows what kind of mindset. If they are hyped and don’t stay disciplined it will not fare well for them. If they come in with a hangover from the Kentucky game, it could get ugly… and in a hurry. The UGA coaches will be the key to having the Pups ready… and that does not bode well either.

I predict, a fairly close game through the first half. Something like 10 to 7 or 14 to 10, with Tech holding the edge. The second half will be the real test for the Pup defense, and the third quarter may be the one that puts the Pups on their heels. Tech will pull away and some statement points may be made toward the end. Final score: Tech 49 Pups 24.

Keys to the game, Nesbitt, Dwyer, and Bay-Bay will have one of their best games, CPJ will out-coach CMR. The Pup defense will fold in the second half, and Cox will throw a couple of interceptions and get flustered… possibly early on; especially if the Jackets put pressure on him with some blitzing. Tech will win the time of possession battle by a good 10 to 15 minutes even though Butler puts them deep in their own territory with some good punts. Falling behind early will bring out the worst in the Pups lack of discipline and they will start commiting stupid penalties that will kill key drives ending their ability to stay with the Jackets and keep it close.

I could be wrong, but this is the picture that sets up based upon watching both teams all year. Georgia has had moments of great play with Auburn being their best game against a good opponent. The inconsistency of the Pups is what makes this game kind of hard to get a handle on as far as outcome. Tech has demonstrated that it is the better team, better coached and they are on a mission this year. UGA has been somewhat clueless all year and I don’t see them turning it around in this game, especially after being disrespected by their own fans in their own stadium before the outcome of the Kentucky game was settled. That will hang in the Pups minds and affect their play on Saturday, you just go hide and watch.

Happy Thannkgiving GT & UGA people!

I see the game going one of two ways. GT blowing us out or a close game that UGA pulls out of it’s back end. However,as much as I’d like to see my Dawgs win, GT is too well coached to blow this game. Down year for the Dawgs, that simple. GT is the better team and congrats GT on your season. However, for some of you thinking that UGA will be down from now on need to re-evaluate your comments. The Dawgs will be back AND Tech is not going anywhere either. A close, hard fought game on Saturday will help put this rivalry back on a national level.

Hope everyone enjoys the day and give thanks for Jesus sacrifice on the cross then give thanks for each one of our teams. Go Dawgs!

Man, I hate to see all the vitriol. It really is stupid. it is only a game anyway. Still, we watch and care about it. I’m a Tech guy and I will be pulling hard for the Jackets. Even so, why rub salt in an open wound? I have plenty of UGA buddies and I why would I want to hurt their feelings if their team loses? So, I say Tech wins 38-24 and then I won’t bring it up to my pals unless they do first.

I know that lots of UGA people are down on MR, but he is still a great coach with an amazing record. They will keep him and sack half of his staff. Honestly, Notre Dame would be so lucky if they got him, but they won’t consider him because he had a bad year. They have to go get someone at the top of their game. I “almost” feel sorry for Notre Dame, but not quite.

Anyway, that’s all. Good luck to the Dawgs, better luck to Tech.

I find it interesting that in a lot of these posts people call Tech fans/students ‘nerds’. Are you saying that because they are smart and do well in school? If so, does that mean your school in full of idiots? Just curious.

BTW, as a Tech fan I really did think it was sad that UGA passed suddenly. I also think it is stupid for PETA to suggest using a robot dog to replace him. If you want to call people nerds, dorks and/or morons, I think PETA people has earned it.

Go Jackets!!!
