I listened to Mark Richt’s teleconference with media members Sunday night and had to chuckle (quietly) when somebody asked the Georgia coach about the bowl picture. “I’m not sure where [we're going],” Richt said, “but I can promise you we will be thankful anywhere we get to go.”
It wasn’t just what he said but the way he said it, as in: “We’ll take anything.”
A question for you: Would you prefer anything or nothing? Because the “anything” is not going to be very good.
The SEC bowl tie-ins are: 1.) BCS bowl(s); 2.) Capital One; 3.) Outback; 4.) Chick-fil-A; 5.) Cotton; 6 and 7.) Liberty and Music City; 8.) Independence; 9.) Papajohns.com.
It’s looking more and more like Georgia is ticketed for one of the bottom two bowls, either the Independence in Shreveport, La., Dec. 28, or the Papajohns.com in Birmingham, Dec. 29. ESPN.com projections have them playing Connecticut (Papajohns.com) or Iowa State (Independence). CBSSports.com has Georgia playing Florida State in the Music City Bowl in Nashville, Dec. 27.
If the Dogs lose to Georgia Tech, they will finish the regular season 6-6 (one of those wins coming over Tennessee Tech). Would you look forward to one of the lower-tier bowls, or has the season left you too upset to even want to watch or attend?

Georgia stinks!! When you stink like they do, UGA should stay in Athens and learn how to catch and hold onto the football. They do not deserve a bowl game in 2009.

I see UGA upsetting Tech.I think the Dawgs match up better to Tech then some people think. But willie m and Fabris and some of the others need to be dropped off at the next bus stop after the bowl game.Adios.
Go to the bowl. Get the extra practice time. They need it.

UGA does not deserve a bowl. Whatever bowl commitee picks Georgia is just rewarding mediocrity. That’s why I hate having so many bowls. Lots of teams that go to bowl games don’t deserve it.

Those appear to be ranked in order of picks/prestige, with the exception of the Cotton bowl. How do you figure that’s not above or even with the Capital One bowl?

My bro-in-law and my niece are huge UGA fans. I don’t hate the University or the students per say. I have little respect for fans that WALK OUT on THEIR TEAM. Be mad a some of the coaches but the KIDS playing the game are doing their best. I think COX was not the best choice, but he is doing the best he can and the coaches should have known he didn’t have what it takes. 12 ganes to find out Joe ain’t Joe Montana should have never happened. Cox should have been pulled after the 3rd or 4th game and UGA should have been playing the young QB part of the games. HONESTLY could the season have been any worse? Now UGA has to look at next year with a bad learning curve with a new QB.

If there was a toilet bowl and we went we would get wiped out. Don’t call me a fair weather fan. I’ve been a dawg fan since 1950, graduated there in 1962 and have listened to or watched every game since 1950. I love the dawgs and always will but this years team is, in my opinion, as bad or worst than the teams Johnny Griffith fielded in ‘61,’62 and ‘63. Come on guys–do you really think we deserve to go to a bowl?

Way to win the Game for Uga VII. Oh, that’s right. They didn’t.
If that was a real battlefield Joe Cox would have summarily court-martialed and executed. Talk about treason.

should stay home, but they won’t. get the extra practices for the younger players. focus on changes for the future.
start all the seniors in the bowl games and anyone talking about leaving early. let them show off for their families and fill their scrap books with the resulting press.
focus now on changes for the future.
don’t worry about recruiting. just sell them on “see, we need help now and you can play now”
by the way, gt will beat the dawgs by 3 td’s at least.
don’t worry folks cwm will be part of the program next year. best case is his role may change.

What’s wrong with the Dawgs?? Yep, it’s the coaching & that coaching has been influenced by the Grand Pubah Michael Adams. He could give a rat’s a$$ less if the football program sucks. That’s why he got rid of Vince so he could use Damon as his yes man. We also need to go to a “creampuff” schedule like the Gators & we could go undefeated also……..

At this point, I am hoping for the Liberty Bowl because at least Memphis would be a fun destination with Beale Street and a top-notch music scene. Eating some amazing BBQ and listening to some Blues would at least be a fun way to lament our season of blues. Plus, I’ve heard they have a great New Years celebration and the best casino gaming outside Las Vegas is nearby.

As an aged UGA alumnus, I am embarrassed at the attitude in which players representing UGA are allowed to continue displaying on the field. If the DAWGS win or lose, I’m willing to accept, but I really would like to minimize the exposure of these thugs. Change the coaches, refuse the bowl and send a signal that the University of Georgia does not accept what these coaches and players represent.

UGA’s fixing to fall?
But speaking just for me
and some people from AJC,
we got a thing or two to tell you all.
This Dawg may have stumbled
but he ain’t never fell.
And if the Techies don’t believe that
they can all go straight to hell.
We’re gonna put UGA’s feet
on the path of a Winning streak
and then God bless UGA nation again.
And you never did think that it ever would happen again.
In Georgia, did you?
You never did think that we’d ever get together again.
Well we damn sure fooled you.
We’re walking real proud and we’re talking real loud again
In UGA Nation.
You never did think that it ever would happen again.
NOW WE MAY HAVE DONE A LITTLE BIT OF FIGHTING AMONGST OURSELVES,
BUT YOU OUTSIDE PEOPLE BEST LEAVE US ALONE.
Cause we’ll all stick together
and you can take that to the bank.
That’s the Gators and the Jackets and the rebels and the yanks.
You just go and lay your hand on a Georgia BULLDAWG fan
and I think you’re gonna finally understand.
And you never did think that it ever would happen again.
In Georgia, did you?
You never did think that we’d ever get together again.
Well we damn sure fooled you.
We’re walking real proud and we’re talking real loud again
In UGA Nation.
You never did think that it ever would happen again.
Thank you Charlie

You go to the bowl to get more practices and time with the players. Coaching changes would not likely happen before the end of the season for other teams anyway, so there is no downside to going to the bowl. If we are a 6-6 team, then not going to a bowl is not going to disguise it or fool anyone. Fact is, it might wake up the team to realize they have to leave it all on the field every Saturday, and they might as well leave a few coaches in Shreveport while they are there.

Jeff… I can assure you that I am neither thrilled about the Dawgs playing in the Poulan Weedwacker Bowl, or whatever less than scenic destination they have in store for the Holidays.
However, I want to the Dawgs to go to a bowl for one simple reason: 2010. We obviously need the practice and should be spending time on the working on the fundamentals. And the bowl practice is fundamental to keep the guys training and working.
