Dogs fans, what’s your preference: Shreveport or nothing?

shreveportI listened to Mark Richt’s teleconference with media members Sunday night and had to chuckle (quietly) when somebody asked the Georgia coach about the bowl picture. “I’m not sure where [we're going],” Richt said, “but I can promise you we will be thankful anywhere we get to go.”

It wasn’t just what he said but the way he said it, as in: “We’ll take anything.”

A question for you: Would you prefer anything or nothing? Because the “anything” is not going to be very good.

The SEC bowl tie-ins are: 1.) BCS  bowl(s); 2.) Capital One; 3.) Outback; 4.) Chick-fil-A; 5.) Cotton; 6 and 7.) Liberty and Music City; 8.) Independence; 9.) Papajohns.com.

It’s looking more and more like Georgia is ticketed for one of the bottom two bowls, either the Independence in Shreveport, La., Dec. 28, or the Papajohns.com in Birmingham, Dec. 29. ESPN.com projections have them playing Connecticut (Papajohns.com) or Iowa State (Independence). CBSSports.com has Georgia playing Florida State in the Music City Bowl in Nashville, Dec. 27.

If the Dogs lose to Georgia Tech, they will finish the regular season 6-6 (one of those wins coming over Tennessee Tech). Would you look forward to one of the lower-tier bowls, or has the season left you too upset to even want to watch or attend?

Uga did not die. He faked his death to avoid having to watch this pitiful bunch of losers anymore.

He went into hiding in the FBI witness protection program and lives with Sammy the Bull Gravano somewhere in Arizona.

Let the players go to a bowl game; it’s not always about us – the fans. If all you want is a winning team, go over to the dark side and become a Gator fan, then you can cheer all you want and do the stupid Gator chomp for Jesus, er, uh, I mean Tim Tebow. If you don’t love the Dawgs through thick or thin, then quit being a fan. Don’t you think the players would play better if they could? Don’t you think they are giving their all? All this belly-aching and calling for coaches’ heads doesn’t do a damn thing. Back your Dawgs or get outta town!

Pi$$ Poor Tech Fan why are you even posting on a UGA blog. Go over and be the 9th person to post on the maggot blog. That’s right, no one cares about tech. Georgia is more popular at 6-5 than tech is at 10-1. Why cause we run a real offense, have way more fans, more exposure, more money, better players, could go on and on. I know the truth hurts but tech will always be second class until Ga State gets going and then they will be 3rd.

Why would we go to the 2009 Glacier Bay toilet bowl in Mobile Alabama when I don’t even know how to potty train my players let alone coach them… By the way, you should buy a Ford. They are as Georgia tough, like a water baloon.

I AM NOT EVEN A UGA FAN and I am EMBARRASSED! Since UGA gets their recruits from mostly GA this makes our whole state look bad. High School football with it. Come on Richt, stop the madness! If UGA doesn’t get a bowl I think people should and will be fine with that.

I am sorry any games against a Division 1-AA (FCS) school should not be included in the record for bowl purposes. Under that scenario, UGA is now 5-5 and should not be considered bowl eligible unless they beat Tech.

This team has not achieved anything to deserve a bowl trip.

Us fans have not done much either that warrants the Liberty/Music City/Papa Johns Bowls.

No mas, let it end in Atlanta.

From this point we can recover, a loss to U Conn or Iowa state and UGA VIII might decline the title.

My comments are so buried, only the IT people might read them, but here goes. As embarassing as this season and going to a bottom-bottom tier bowl is, it will afford the Dogs the opportunity to start practicing for next season. Joe Cox can go home to Charlotte and learn his colors (so as not to throw to opposing team jerseys) while the future contenders begin to jockey for the starting QB position. That’s the benefit of going to a bowl, even if you don’t deserve to go.

Pi$$onaDawg,

Agree that Cox has obviously had TO’s at critical points in the games. Wouldn’t put the whole bad season on him though. Special teams, O, & D mistakes have all contributed to this ugly season.

UK 2nd half was a mircocosm of the entire year.

I’d have more respect for the Georgia program if it merely said, “no thank you” to any bowl bid. I don’t know if that’s allowed in this day and age of bowl tie-ins and the like, but there is absolutely no basis for going to a bowl this year. (And please don’t tell me “that it allows for an extra month of practice, which is invaluable.” Give me a break.)

I think they should get to go to a bowl game, not a good one, because you want all of the seniors to get one more game on the field…………………… I never said they would get one morw game and win it.

All of you puppy fans give up on your coaches to fast. Instead of bashing them with stupid comments, why do you not become real fans and encourage the coaches in any way possible to make them do better

BUT it would be funny if Georgia did go to a bowl game, then lost. THEY WOULD HAVE A LOSING RECORD!!!!!

I concur with CatsFly! The obnoxious fans are terrible. Howling and claiming then win, that they’re King of the World (even though they haven’t done anything on the national scene in almost 30 years) and then when they lose they’re howling again. But this time blaming the refs, the coaches, the players GT and whomever may be nearby. Not to mention half the stadium leaving early when the game is still undecided.

Geeze.

Richt would best be served by declining any bowl invitation and fire his entire staff.
He could spend his “Bowl” time searching for the best assistances available. He also need to spend time with his committed recruits, because it is very likely some to many will change their minds about coming to a declining program.

Sorry to report more bad news, Urban Meyer is not going to Notre Dame, so he will tormenting the dawgs for years to come.

Who’s the lame brain above who suggests that going to a bowl is what the players want. News for you: no they don’t. They want to go home and enjoy their Christmas break like every other student. They don’t want to practice and hang around a deserted college town during the holidays. (Union, anyone?)

Mr. Damon Evans:

We are pleased to extend an invitation to the University of Georgia Bulldogs to play in the inaugural 3M Desk & Office Cleaner Bowl, to be held at James Griffin Stadium in beautiful St. Paul, Minnesota on the day following the last high school football playoff game. The date and your opponent are TBD, but we expect it to be sometime in December against another deserving team.

We eagerly await your response.

Georgia will always get recruits, so stop worrying about that program as far as that goes. UGA has the pick of the litter because most of those kids still cannot get into Tech nor want to go there is the first place. I really see Georgia beating Tech Saturday. They have two super stars back and they are so humble now they might play a little football without running their mouths. I think meanwhile if they don’t beat us this year they will beat us again with Richt, too good not to. When Gailey was at Tech that was not a fact to be said about Tech and Georgia Tech was not that good back then. Tech’s playing better will make Georgia play better because they grew up with these guys just like Auburn guys and have some pride. It is when they can play a mediocre Kentucky and beat them steady that is when they are going to be something and they will eventually get that back too. That may take a new coordinator that respects what he sees not what he hears. Believe me if Georgia beats Tech Saturday it won’t be because Tech counted their chickens too early it will be because Georgia is just better which they have all the talent to be.

i think this may be the end for richt and the coaching staff, you just don’t lose that many games that badly and expect to stick around. if wm and mb are still around next year i would be shocked but richt is loyal to his assistants and it may cost him his job, because the alummni will remember the fans leaving with 2:30 to play when it comes to holding on to a coach and his staff. hope mark can right the ship before next season.

To all you UGA ” fair weather fans”: As a die-hard GT fan for decades (whether we lost 5,6 or even 9 games), I still was a fan and bought season tickets also making a contribution to the athletic program. I would be ashamed of some of the posts here involving firing everybody from the offensive and defensive coordinators to the head coach and athletic director along with withholding contributions and not buying tickets.. All of this over one bad season by GT standards, and the season isn’t even over yet. This just cements why I look down UGA fans that feel that way. Maybe they never set foot inside the university. I hope they did not and will vanish so I can take a different view of the UGA fan base. Right now these people look like wimps – they are soft and could never measure up as a real college football fan. Look at what the jackets have gone through losing to UGA. You have lost in 2008 and you would think the world was coming to an end. Another couple of seasons like this, and you won’t need a 90,000 seat stadium. To the real UGA fans – mostly ones that went to the school- you should be happy to get rid of this type of trashy fan even if it costs you some money. They are probably the ones that were leaving the stadium with two minutes and three time-outs to go when you had a chance to win the Kentucky game.
