Dogs fans, what’s your preference: Shreveport or nothing?

shreveportI listened to Mark Richt’s teleconference with media members Sunday night and had to chuckle (quietly) when somebody asked the Georgia coach about the bowl picture. “I’m not sure where [we're going],” Richt said, “but I can promise you we will be thankful anywhere we get to go.”

It wasn’t just what he said but the way he said it, as in: “We’ll take anything.”

A question for you: Would you prefer anything or nothing? Because the “anything” is not going to be very good.

The SEC bowl tie-ins are: 1.) BCS  bowl(s); 2.) Capital One; 3.) Outback; 4.) Chick-fil-A; 5.) Cotton; 6 and 7.) Liberty and Music City; 8.) Independence; 9.) Papajohns.com.

It’s looking more and more like Georgia is ticketed for one of the bottom two bowls, either the Independence in Shreveport, La., Dec. 28, or the Papajohns.com in Birmingham, Dec. 29. ESPN.com projections have them playing Connecticut (Papajohns.com) or Iowa State (Independence). CBSSports.com has Georgia playing Florida State in the Music City Bowl in Nashville, Dec. 27.

If the Dogs lose to Georgia Tech, they will finish the regular season 6-6 (one of those wins coming over Tennessee Tech). Would you look forward to one of the lower-tier bowls, or has the season left you too upset to even want to watch or attend?

Check with Tech fans for advice they are used to all of the 3rd rate bowls. Burdell you are totally classless. That post has nothing to do with football, as I am sure you don’t have common sense enough to know the difference. Hey Tech fans, thank for that advice about Shreveport.

Richt does not deserve any bowl, nor should he go to one and embarrass himself further—or the University, I might add. He should not be rewarded for an unspeakably dismal coaching effort. At least Bobby Knight, despite what some may think about him, had the pride to refuse his salary one year while at Texas Tech because he did not think his coaching effort that year merited his salary. Can anyone imagine Richt having the same amount of pride and self-respect to do this? Maybe if Richt had a little of the fiber Knight has, the program would not have degenerated to such a disgusting state.

dbc,
Good points. The scary part is that I believe Richt thinks the current staff will get things turned around. I don’t believe he will make any changes during the off season. With that mentality, I think Richt is sealing his own doom.

But so be it, I’m with you, he’s taken us as far as he can. He will never get us to a national championship game, never. Personal fouls, late hits, cheap shots, that’s all acceptable to Richt. Have you ever seen a team where this type of crap is all but condoned by the head coach? You can’t win with this type of a mental approach.

Stupid penalties like Bryan Evans hitting the guy 10 yards out of bounds, that’s the kind of stupid crap that Richt doesn’t do a damn thing about.

Notre Dame will probably go after Brian Kelly. I say let’s get the jump on them and go after Kelly. Anyone who believes Richt/Martinez/Bobo will lead us to a NC is just plain out kidding yourself. It’s time to face reality and change courses.

Even though kinnntucky, tennerseee, floriduh, okie state, and lswho got in on the dawg action early, don’t forget that Saturday is officially the Annual Stomping of the Dawgs.

TECH is going to stomp a mudhole in your sorry dawg arses. And there isn’t a damne thing you can do about it.

And I am never going to stop laughing at you ignorant, inbred dawgs. No wonder uga VII committed suicide.

Phil, good points, mind you that AJ Greene got hurt being tackled out of bounds. It wasn’t called. We have had some dumb mistakes this year, and the dumbest came when we retained BOBO, and Martinez. Four coaches should go to the guillotine. Then let’s see what happens. Looks like plenty will be available. If we need a new coach, then get Gruden, Pay him what he needs and be quiet. If we can’t get him, just go for assistants.

Next year is going to worse. UGA losses their 3 best Defensive players (Owens, Atkins, and Weston). The QB situation will be even worse; no QB will have any real game experience. Richts’ loyalty to his coaches and players may be good at times. But to me there is a difference between being loyal and stubborn. Mark Richt be loyal to the University that pays you and the fans……….not your friend(s) that are in over their heads………or you might have a lot of free time to be loyal together as you look for a new job.

If they’re invited they should go. Georgia has no right to snub either of these bowls as if they’re too good to play there. Not this year. I just hope UGA show up in decent numbers or its going to be embarassing. Perhaps GA should gauge alumni & student interest before accepting…

LOL – listen “olddawg”, another 3 weeks of practice is going to do nothing for this team. They’ve had a whole season and gotten worse…..

As far as younger players, I say let them come out hungry next year and see what happens.

We don’t want to be like Tech and take any mediocre bowl that comes around. We’re dawgs!

We deserve a decent bowl because of who we are. If we don’t get any respect for that, let another team go instead.

Teams with 6-6 records don’t serve a bowl, particularly when one of the wins came against a 1-AA team!

And speaking of replacing coaches, UGA also needs a new special teams coach. The kick-off coverage has stunk for several years.

You make some good points. I also beleive that Richt will stick by his coaches and that there will be few changes this offseason. The lack of discipline on this team is what scares me the most. One more season like this and it will be Richt on the hot seat but his job is safe for at least 2 more season I would guess.

If Damon Evans doesn’t fire Mark Richt (which he won’t), then Damon Evans should be fired. Worst damn Georgia team ever.

My 15-year-old son said during the Kentucky game that his high school football team is “more disciplined and better coached”!! My 15-year-old said that!! Then he said “it looks like they don’t know the fundamentals of football.” Whatever that means, it’s just a sad day, when my son is saying these things (completey unprovoked by me).

6-6 teams don’t deserve bowl games Period.

Beat Tech, and enjoy the bowl.

Lose to Tech, and with only six wins we do not deserve a bowl, whether we need the practice or not.

Sending a message that six wins is not enough will do more for the team than another few weeks of what we have been doing all year.

Good luck to everyone Saturday.

Gruden just signed a new contract so he is armchair coaching from behind a desk and I don’t think he will leave that cushy job for the real pressure of SEC coach. I think I heard at the game the Sat night that these Seniors could be the first class to be 4-0 in bowls. If that is true, let them play in a minor bowl. The fans that don’t want to come just won’t come. Those senior def tackles played hard all year and if they want a bowl, give it to them.

EXCUSE ME. we uga alumni and fans ARE winners. we support winners with our money, enthusiasm, and, yes, prayers. we love our university, its history, its present and future, our beautiful campus. we are proud folks. and we have NEVER expected more than was possible, from our academics and from our athletics. the question is ‘what is possible’? my father, a great native of athens and a lover of uga, always said to me,’are you doing the best you can? if not, do you need help to find out how to? only then can you live with yourself.’ on that football field, we are NOT doing the best we can. and yes, we need HELP finding out how. now, no one involved in this mess can or should be able to live with themselves. to haley, or whomever, these men are football coaches, these kids are football players; they have limited goals that may not match ours. uga’s football program is not solely dedicated to moral education, it is also dedicated to excellence on the field. rules and discipline must reign, but winning, winning is why we recruit these young folks and it is WHY they come here. coddle your ideals, but move to mars hill college, like mr. richt should do. and happiness to all.

Are you seroius? Why in the Hell would you not want an extra game to the season? Anytime you get a bonus football game its a good thing. Sure some bowls a waaaaaaay better than others but I’d much rather get to see UGA in the toliet bowl against Fresno State for one more game than nothing at all.
