I listened to Mark Richt’s teleconference with media members Sunday night and had to chuckle (quietly) when somebody asked the Georgia coach about the bowl picture. “I’m not sure where [we're going],” Richt said, “but I can promise you we will be thankful anywhere we get to go.”
It wasn’t just what he said but the way he said it, as in: “We’ll take anything.”
A question for you: Would you prefer anything or nothing? Because the “anything” is not going to be very good.
The SEC bowl tie-ins are: 1.) BCS bowl(s); 2.) Capital One; 3.) Outback; 4.) Chick-fil-A; 5.) Cotton; 6 and 7.) Liberty and Music City; 8.) Independence; 9.) Papajohns.com.
It’s looking more and more like Georgia is ticketed for one of the bottom two bowls, either the Independence in Shreveport, La., Dec. 28, or the Papajohns.com in Birmingham, Dec. 29. ESPN.com projections have them playing Connecticut (Papajohns.com) or Iowa State (Independence). CBSSports.com has Georgia playing Florida State in the Music City Bowl in Nashville, Dec. 27.
If the Dogs lose to Georgia Tech, they will finish the regular season 6-6 (one of those wins coming over Tennessee Tech). Would you look forward to one of the lower-tier bowls, or has the season left you too upset to even want to watch or attend?

UGA is lucky to get to a bowl and should take any one they can get. It’s apparent that the team could use the extra practice time that goes with it. That extra practice will be beneficial to the freshman and redshirts especially Aaron Murray.

In my opinion, this team does not deserve a bowl trip. Soooooo tired of CMR being “thankful” for everything. This program needs to stay home and start putting a staff and plan of action to get the program where it belongs.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result! Saban and Meyer are perfectionists…CMR is a thankfulnists

Of course the bulldogs should go to a bowl. A game against Florida State would be great. Let the seniors have a bowl game.

15 additional practices to install new DC or OC or both schemes. 15 extra practices for one of the two Frosh QB’s to get reps. 15 extra practices for our young secondary to learn to play man coverage. We’d be foolish to pass on a bowl.

Of course we go to a bowl!! It’s the extra practice time they need for the young guys!! Phil….deserve it or not, they need to go!! Players get better by playing games!! Not watching others play! If it’s Birmingham or the Independence bowl, then let’s go and finish on a positive note!! Saint Simons….if we beat you nerds this weekend are we going to see you on the blogs? I doubt it, you will run and hide like the roaches all of you Tech geeks are!! Dawgs in a tight one this weekend!! Go Dawgs!!

The extra practice time to get ready for a bowl would be invaluable, so, yes, they should go to whatever bowl will take them. Plus, you sportswriters like to cite meanimgless stats like “FSU has been to a bowl game for 27 consecutive years”. If UGA doesn’t go, it will break their “streak”. Then all the Tech fans could claim their streak is longer. Can’t have that, can we?

If offered they will accept. Bowl money is pooled for the conference and then divied up, so to not go would mean less money in the pool. Not gonna happen.
Besides the extra practice will give the younger guys a chance to get some reps.

This year more than ever the Dawgs need a bowl, any bowl. They need the extra practice time that a bowl offers to get ready for next year. So it’s a time to swallow the pride and go where they can.

Besides, this is what is wrong with college football today. It used to be a bowl game was a reward for a good season. Now, there are so many bowl games, a 6-6 team can go.

Are any of you really thinking that the new qb’s are the answer? Remember these coaches are the ones that did the recruiting. Look at our so called talent. They have lost 8 games in the last two years, most in blow out fashion. Our coaches can’t coach the talent we have up, down or sideways.

They should practice for the bowl… and then instead of playing… stay home and practice. There’s no real reason to go out and see 5 more turnovers and 150 more yards of personal foul penalties.
Take the money…. and round up a crowd from the stands to play the game.

We’re the worst underachievers of the year in college football. From first to worst in two years. We deserve nothing but a fresh start next year with a COMPLETELY new coaching staff. Who’s going to a bowl game to watch us lose again to a team we should beat? No one.

Stay home. We did not earn a bowl game this year. All teams should have to have a minimum of eight wins to attend a bowl game. Six and Six is not a bowl worthy season.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I would like to invite all dog fans to come on out and root the Gators on at the SEC Championship game here in Atlanta. Then please feel free to come watch us in Pasadena, CA when we go on to win our 2nd National Championship in a row. Maybe some of our winning ways will rub off on you, who knows?

The only real reason to take a bowl game is so that the team gets to practice. Or, maybe some foolish arrogance in being able to say 9 consecutive bowls……..
There are too many bowls now. If you don’t go to a bowl then you suck pretty bad these days.

Connecticut would be a good opponent. I get tired of playing the same old teams in bowls every year. It’d be nice to play some of the guys who are going to be starting next year even if they don’t “give us the best chance to win.”

Jeff, go find something else to stir up. At this point the Dawgs need to go to any bowl because of the practice time. They can use this time to evaluate the youth as well as coaching and philosopy.

UGA should accept any bowl that is offered. The additional practice time in December is necessary, as seen by the record this year. The important thing will be can the coaches actually make use of this time.

-I would prefer not even bothering with a bowl game..might at least give us another month to prepare for next season with how much we suck this season
-Joe Cox poisoned UGA VII
-Lastly, I just saw a blurb on ESPN’s bottom line that said Charlie Weis “would have a hard time arguing with Notre Dame if the school decided to fire him”, because according to Weis “6-5 isn’t good enough.” Sound familiar CMR?

After this season, I think it would be better not to go bowling in either Shreveport or Birmingham. It would send a signal to our returning players that 6 wins is not acceptable or rewarded in Athens. It would also give Damon Evans time to sit down with CMR and redesign our staff. This year has been awful, and the players have not responded to adversity at all. Time to move on and start over from scratch.

Oh yeah, and since the SEC screwed us with that officiating crew in the LSU game, why should we go to B’ham or Shreveport and give them a little more money? I say make a stand on “winning” and not accept a bowl invite for a pathetic year. Also sends a signal to Judge Slive that officiating still sucks in too many games.
