Any chance Willie Martinez comes up with a game plan to upset Tech?
In 2006, when a 7-4 and unranked Georgia team defeated a 9-2 and 16th ranked Georgia Tech team, it wasn’t difficult to figure out why. The Dogs’ defense rattled Reggie Ball, the oft-rattled quarterback, who went 6-for-22 with two interceptions and a fumble.
“That was our goal from Day 1,” defensive tackle Ray Gant said afterward. “As soon as we started game-planning Tech, shake Reggie.”
The biggest reason not to expect an upset next Saturday when Georgia goes to North Ave? The Dogs’ defense seldom rattles anybody any more.
If this is another indictment of defensive coordinator Willie Martinez, so be it. We watched Kentucky score four second-half touchdowns Saturday night, and even though two of those scores were set up by turnovers, the game illustrated Georgia’s lack of ability to make a play when it matters.
Question: Do you see Martinez putting together a game plan and inspiring a defense to the point that the Dogs can either: 1) rattle Jackets quarterback Josh Nesbitt into making mistakes, or, 2) slow an offense that is among the nation’s per-game leaders in yardage (449.6) and points (36)? I don’t.
Here’s a stat for you: If you throw out the Vanderbilt and Tennessee Tech games, Georgia has allowed an average of 31.4 points in its other nine games. Martinez might want to keep that off his resume.
Can Georgia put up points against Tech? Yes. But as much as the Jackets’ defense has struggled this season, it also has shown an ability to make adjustments and make plays when it has had to. (Another stat: The Jackets have allowed only one second-half touchdown in the last four games). The Dogs probably had a better defense a year ago, when Tech torched them for 409 rushing yards and five offensive TDs.
I suppose there’s something to be said for this being a rivalry game and Georgia players wanting to finish the season (pre-bowl) on a high note. But it’s hard to imagine any breakthrough coming now.

SEC vs. ACC. The Dogs have played one of the toughest schedules in the nation, Tech one of the weakest, ACC. Dogs are batterd mentally and physically, Tech is rested from a cream puff cake-walk. Tech should win but the SEC caliber of Georgia athletes will make it tough for Tech to win but Tech will overcome at home in a stadium that is mostly a sea of red. Go Dogs!

Tech will score at least 38 next week. Willie will have the Dawgs playing well for at most a half – maybe not at all. 50-70+ would not surprise me that Tech hangs on Ga. next week. But don’t blame Willie for last night – it was all TO’s that killed us not Willie. I thought the lock of the year was take UK and the 8.5 – but I still thought UGA would win by 3 or 4. That was the worst meltdown in the 2nd half I have ever seen – worse than Tech-UGA last year. If UGA beats Tech this week, it will be because Nesbitt couldn’t play – or the biggest upset of the year by far. I wouldn’t take UGA and 30 even if it is a big rivalry game. Hope I’m wrong…

The Tech game is a foregone conclusion, probably Tech 49, UGA 24. The real question is, does CMR have the guts and fortitude to make the changes necessary to get the program back on track? Does Damon Evans have the toughness and fortitude to demand that he make those changes? First one being the obvious, fire W Martinez as def. coordinate. The man simply doesn’t have a clue how to coach defense in the SEC. If CMR and Damon Evans don’t have the guts to do what’s necessary, they’ll both be gone come 2011.

I will NEVER root for a uga loss like some dawg fans have suggested they would – so that the last nail in Willie’s coffin is nailed. But i’m gonna be honest… if I could magically determine the score it would be something like UGA – 48 Tech – 42… we have got to make a change.
When any of our favorite teams or people fail, we – as humans – try and make justifications for why its not so bad. I already saw a few on the blogs this morning (D didnt give up that many yards, we showed improvent against TENNESSEE TECH AND VANDERBILT).
Folks, numbers don’t lie. Look at the numbers our D has given up in the past 2 years. It has NEVER happened in the history of the program. 90 % of college programs would KILL for the atheleticism, size and speed we have on that end of the ball. The problem is the scheme. The problem is the lack of direction. The problem is the coaching.
I’m sure Willie is a good man and a good recruiter… but 6 losses while giving up THIRTY points a game is not even close to UGA football. If CMR isn’t able to pull the trigger, Damon Evans had better.
The gap is widening between us and the elite 2 teams. We have to stop it and stop it now, or we will be talking about 7-5 seasons for the next 4 years.
I love my Dawgs, but this just isn’t acceptable anymore

It is still a very tough rivalry game. Both teams will show up to play. I just hope GT can play hard nose football and limit mistakes………….if GT can play decent on D and run the ball consistently, I expect the Dawgs will eventually lay down resulting in a GT Victory!
Will we soon be 2 games into an 8 or 9 game winning streak against UGA?? Seems a little unrealistic, but with GT on the rise and UGA on a free-fall, we might very well be starting another long winning streak against UGA. GT already holds the longest streak at 8 games; I wonder if we can take it higher?
MAYBE we should challenge Coach Paul Johnson and claim he is not good enough to win 10 games in a row against UGA while being the head coach at GT! (he is obviously motivated by people who claim he cannot accomplish specific feats!!)

If CMR leaves for one reason or the other, there will be a mass exodus of tallent that goes with him. Anyone who thinks CMR should leave is a moron and should hop on Bradley’s Johnson band wagon. Maybe Bobo called some decent plays last night, but we’ll never know because it had zero chance of success when Cox throws right to a defender. The defense played well for most of the game and as usual they were put in the redzone twice by the offense and special teams miscues.
Don’t get me wrong. I am just as disgusted by the losses as the next guy, but I will always beleive that things will get better. Perhaps some changes will be made his winter.
CMR should not be one of them. A mass exodus of fair weather fans, now that will be progress.

wally butts,
Don’t make any excuses. UGA schedule may be a little tougher than Tech’s, but Georgia plays the same basic schedule every year. And they did a lot better last year. We have to face it: Tech is just a better team this year, you only have to look back at last night’s game to see what UGA’s problems are( mainly turnovers, bad QB decisions,etc- same thing all year). Georgia has some hard choices to make at end of this season. And I say all that as a Georgia grad and supporter.

Thanks Georgia – this game made our season – and you guys did a great job of giving us this game.
As a Kentucky fan – we have always respected Georgia and their fans – we expect to give the football team a good game – but always feel that we will and should be the underdog…..knowing that payback is around the corner with basketball season underway!
However – this year – we had no fear coming into Athens.
I will not sugar coat it – this was two mediocre programs fighting for a better low to mid-level bowl position. And guess which team made the mistakes and choked when it mattered most – on your home field.
NOt sure what has happened to a once proud program – but this team has fallen from the nationally respected faster than any team I can remember in a long time.
UGA in the SEC east has been blown out by Florida and Tennesee – got beat by Kentucky (Ky was playing a true freshman with less talent around him – against a UGA team with a 5th year senior with national recruiting talent)and should have lost to South Carolina.
In head to head – I guess that makes UGA #4 in the SEC East.
Thanks again for giving us this game!

Man – is it going to get ugly at Bobby Dodd next week.
I fully expect the Dawgs to put up a fight – but this is two programs clearly heading in the opposite directions.
I was not so sure of the Paul Johnson hire – but in YEAR ONE – we beat UGA! In year TWO – it is clear who has the better football program – and the better head coach!
Don’t give me that SEC – ACC crap – UGA would be mediocre in the ACC – this is a team in serious trouble.
However, I will say this – the best thing UGA has going for is as follows:
– Cox and Bryan Evans will be leaving the team
– Your freshman skill players appear to be quite good
The unknowns for UGA?
– QB in 2010 – hindsight being 20/20 – Cox should have been an on the field QB for Murray – and Murray should have been the starter now.
– What DT’s are ready to step in and play next year?
– Just how bad can UGA’s defense be?
My guess is GT will really open it up and show no mercy next week. GT 54 – UGA 21. Yes, I will be disappointed if we do not hang 50 on the Dawgs?
What killed UGA VII – a bee sting of course!

BOOGIE – I posted this on the other blog about Heather Dinich before this blog. You’re busted!!
Hey Boogie, I understand the dilemma. There’s nothing to do around Hartwell after summer and the two closest teams are Clemson and Georgia. My guess is that you pull for both teams and you’re probably having a rough day after the game between the hedges yesterday, so you’re singing the Tiger mantra today. All of that is completely understandable, which also makes your obvious bias toward Tech very understandable. But that doesn’t change the facts. UGA is unranked and 6-5 overall and 4-4 in the SEC. Clemson is #23 in the BCS with an 8-3 overall record and 6-2 in the ACC. Compare that with Tech which is #7 in the BCS with a 10-1 overall record and 7-1 in the ACC.

Miami beat Tech by running the ball for 180 yards, no turnovers, and 200+ passing. Tech looked terrible in that game.
If Ealey gets 25+ touches, Cox and Ealey communicate well, and Ealey has another EXPLOSION play or 2 like the one he busted for 55 yards against Kentucky, we have a shot. If Bobo calls a poor passing game, converts 1 out of 11 3rd downs in the second half again like he did vs. Kentucky, or has 3 or 4 turnovers like we have had in 4 out of 5 losses, yes, we’ll lose.
Tech fumbles more than almost anyone in the NCAA (chance for some turnovers IF WE GET SOME HATS ON SOME BALLS WHEN WE TACKLE) and their passing completion % is horrendous (who cares unless we get a lead?).
Everybody’s trying to blame Ga’s woes on our defense but what DC can win with 3 or 4 turnovers like Bobo has given up in 4 of our 5 losses?
Willie’s D did pretty good against Tech last year in 3 out of 4 Qrtrts. The Georgia –OFFENSE– had a complete MELTDOWN in the 3rd Qrtrt, and Willie’s D struggled as a BY-PRODUCT of that meltdown in the 3rd Qrtr. I don’t see us having a 3rd Qrtrt meltdown like last year.
Willie has not given up a single 100 yard rusher this year and out-coached the #1 ranked offensive OC in the game in 2007, 2008, Gus, in the Auburn game.
I’d like to see some Saban-like corner Blitzes to slow down the outside pitch options.
I’d like to see a HELMET ON THE FOOTBALL on every tackle–these guys fumble more than anybody. If they’re going to run, strip the ball, and put hats on the ball when we tackle. Shut down the dive and bring a lot of corner blitzes.

I’m a long time Tech fan, and I’ve seen too much to ever take the UGA game for granted. UGA can score on us, and if they play a complete game without turnovers and penalties they could beat us. I just can’t believe all the trash talk from some Tech fans, and I wish they would wait until after the game. And even then, if we win, remember that UGA is 33-12 against Tech since 1964 when Vince Dooley started with UGA. They really don’t have much to prove against us. This talk of 10 in a row is ridiculous – let’s win two in a row first.
Let’s just play a clean (no turnovers or penalties) game and we should win by 2 touchdowns. The good news is that I can’t see CPJ not having the team prepared. Like Dooley, he is good at winning the games the should win and winning a few he shouldn’t.

1. Plays smart….no plenalties…better scratch that one
2. Win the tunover battle…not gonna happen either…but I have more
3. Rely on the smarter QB…this is no good either
4. Better senior leadership…no good either…see Evans & Cox
5. Better game plan…not a chance
6. Better halftime adjustments…not a chance in h_ll!
7. UGA interim mascot will be better than Buzz…I knew I could find one eventually!

Here are the real reasons the Dawgs are having such a bad season: 1) It’s the refs. Everyone knows they are in it for Bama and Florida. 2) It’s Urban Meyer. Shouldn’t he be in South Bend by now?? 3) It’s Brandon Spikes. What an eye poking thug!! That’s what we should all be concerned about, not whether Georgia actually lost to Kentucky!! 4) It’s Tim Tebow. Yeah, we’re much more concerned about his concussion and his long term health and giving Meyer expert medical advice or whether he’ll ever amount to anything in the NFL than how our Dawgs are going downhill fast. we was on our way to the kentukky game last night and was to look for the BIG DAWG TO EAT when the truck broke down but the tellyvison still works back at the doublewide so we was okay to still see the BIG DAWG EAT. Then the BIG DAWG did not want to eat and we was sad. And was sad also that the mascot died when he saw the BIG DAWG was not hungery cause we do like to eat but the BIG DAWG did not eat. The pitbull we keep back yard at the doublewide always like to eat and maybe we kin get us a new mascot pitbull so the BIG DAWG can eat again. Anyhows I never was thinking the DAWGS was not to win becase we are the SEC and we always beats the teams that are not the SEC so them kentukky coalminers was sure to lose but somehows they did beat the BIG DAWG. and now I am thinken why do we play the teams not in the SEC we should not play the coalminers ever again no more. But we do like to play the teams not SEC sometimes cause we do always beat them and they gots us a game down Atlanter way nex saturday ha ha ha that will be the end of them crybaby yella jakkets cause the BIG DOG WILL EAT on the yellajakkets sure nuff. And iffin we was to get one a them pitbulls for to be the mascot on the Atlanter game then the BIG DAWG will EAT and we will have a good old time down the bar at the croosroad. While we’re at it, let’s also get rid of Demon Evans and all the enablers to this miserable excuse for a University of Georgia football team. Here’s the deal:
Don’t give UGA any more money or order any more tickets until the Preacha Man and the Demon are permanently off the payroll of UGA. If you truly love the Dawgs and the university, it’s time for some tough love.

godawgs, I agree with your point that the defense was put in some terrible positions numerous times/games this year. (SC,Tenn, etc.) While they were far from proficient at making big stops when they needed to this year, they did show good effort when they weren’t worn out from being on the field the majority of the time. I had a good feeling about Cox at the beginning of the year but it sure seems that an alternative should have been given at least a fair shot. They sure seemed determined to make a change in the running back line-up, and I’m not sure they made the right decision there. Guess we’ll hinge our hopes this year on Saturday.

Willie Martinez could not stop a group of high school cheerleaders on there way back to there cars after a cheerleading competition.

If you, CMR get run out of town this year or next year, you sir have know one to blame but yourself. The University of Georgia football program has the best in the country: talent, facuality’s, and one of the largest athletic budgets among division I schools.
CMR your downfall will be as follows
Someone please let me know if you disagree.)
(1) YOUR lack of team disciple during games.
(2) YOUR absolute loyal blindness to soft zone Willie. (If no defensive adjustment Willie was at any other school in the country would he still is employed there?)
(3) YOUR lack of ability to motivate this team during a game.
(4) YOUR lack of ability or simply not caring at all. (Which both seem to be pretty debatable at this point.)College football is a business plain and simple. WE give money to the University and pay you millions a year. YOU win football games. Pretty easy to understand.

Any UGA fan that thinks we can beat Tech is really drinking the “cool aid”, or quite delusional. Holding Uk to 63 total yards in the 1st half was great, however letting them loose for 200 yds in the 2nd was not so great. Yes, turnovers did kill us, but not making plays when had to was the real killer. Give UK credit, they did not pack it in when getting trounced the 1st half, and when the opportunity presented itself in the 2nd half, they took full advantage of it. Penalties, turnovers, same old same old for the Dogs. And yes, according to Cox quotes in the ABH, he did blame Ealey for the fumble. Way to go Joe, pass your ineptitude on to the young guy! GA.Tech is a well coached, sound football team, and while their defense can be somewhat suspect, this person sees no way we can stay with them for four quarters. I shudder to think of it, but this could get ugly for UGA. Oh well, our battle cry, “wait till next year”. 6-6, and going to a bowl? Sad, Sad!!

Georgia can beat Tech, unfortunately. If Georgia stops
its turnovers and Tech has a few, Georgia wins. And if
Tech continues its practice of spotting the other team
two or three touchdowns, Georgia wins. The rankings
mean nothing. Georgia has the talent and the power.
If Tech thinks it is on top of the world and can’t lose,
something like last year’s LSU game is bound to happen

So many of these posts are laughable and so short sighted. Tech fans should certainly enjoy this year and revel in the Dawgs’ struggles. And, you’re certain to win this weekend– no mystery there. But making comments about owning UGA for the next 10 years is absurd. Things change so fast in college football. Remember, that programs tend to have their greatest success in the first few years of a new coach. Then, that coach either leaves or the program gets complacent– UGA is exhibit A. What has USC done lately? How has LSU looked in the last couple of years (other than thrashing Tech last year)? Things go in cycles, so Tech, your Karma will bite again… it’s just a matter of when. No pressure, but a loss this weekend would be a major debacle.
Don’t get me wrong… losing stinks. I just don’t think you can look too far ahead on anything. Things seem to work themselves out.
As for the Vols, give me break. Perhaps you need to install metal detectors at the practice facility.

Since I have ties to both teams, I say to Tech don’t take this game lightly or UGA will beat you. UGA stop whimpering, stop being arrogant and support your team and your coach. I lived through Vince Dooley’s 6-5 season before Herschel got there and took the school on an amazing ride. I was there when Tech began their great team building in 1989 when they took UGA by surprised, and of course we know what happened in 1990. Tech should win, but maybe they won’t, and that’s why we play the game.

Just 15 months ago (August 2008) UGA had a preseason #1 ranking and everybody was wondering if Paul Johnson’s “gimmick” offense would work. Well at that moment I knew the offense would work and I knew UGA was overrated. Today I believe Tech is underrated at #7 (we would beat at least Boise and Cincinnati) and UGA is looking at a 6-6 season and car parts are falling from the sky!
I have no doubt that UGA will be back in the top 20 soon but they should be looking up to TECH for a few years to come.

The only thing that Tech has in its favor is the fact that the game is at Bobby Dodd stadium. If Tech does not fumble the ball at all and keep UGA’s awful defense on the field, the game will be a blowout.

For all the hoopla over the schedules of UGA and GT, the fact is GT played three teams that are currently ranked, none of which have a better record than 8-3, and GT beat two of those teams and lost to the other by 16 pts. UGA played three teams currently ranked and lost to all three teams one of which is rated number one and 10-0 one that is 9-2 and rated number 12, and one that is rated 19 with an 8-3 record. In addition to the above the teams UGA has played have won 60% of their games and the teams GT has played won 49% of their games. GT had its troubles with both the SEC weak sisters it played MSU and Vandy (Vandy pulled a UGA self destruction act that led to the one sided scoring difference, the game was far closer than the final score indicated). UGA has not played an ACC team this year so there is no intraconference comparison you can make other than Vandy which UGA beat by 24 and GT beat by 25, however, Vandy did not play as well against UGA as it did GT. Even more glaring is GT gave up 487 yards to MSU and only won by 11 points even with MSU turned the ball over 5 times.
In short GT is giving up 23.6 pts./game dfensively and UGA 26.63 pts/game. It looks like this game can definitely be won by UGA if they can avoid the mistakes as far as Turnovers and Penalties. So, Go Get em DAWGS Bite their FAT BUTTS!!!!

The reality is that this year’s Dawg edition is anemic on both sides of the ball. Their performance indicates that a serious miscalculation has been made regarding the quality of players that were recruited in comparison to the teams that they’ve played. So forget what all the recruiting services say. So when “signing day” comes around ignore it. To make matters worse the coaching has not made up for the lack of talent, in fact it has compounded the problem. Too many penalties and obviously poor game plans have resulted in a total breakdown. So, this year, Tech should have a field day. If it does not win running away then something is wrong with it. UGA must make changes to pull out of the nosedive. If it doesn’t do it now the dip can be a low and long one.

This team is embarrassingly bad. Richt looks like he’s in a daze. Players commit egregious penalties without consequences (example: Bryan Evans’ cheap shot out-of-bounds in the 1st quarter). Georgia is losing to teams with inferior talent.
We saw the warning signs in ‘07 and ‘08. Georgia was a terrible football team the first half of ‘07, and should have lost to Vandy to go 4-3. We then beat what turned out to be a mediocre Florida team, and everyone assumed we were great. But the flaws really showed in ‘08. We barely beat Kentucky and a really bad Auburn team, otherwise we would have been 8-5 with ugly losses to Tennessee and Florida. That was one of the worst 10-3 teams I’ve seen, especially in light of the offensive talent we had.
Richt better get his groove back next year or there may not be another next year.

Tech will lose by being over confident. UGA will move the ball consistenly and will not committ a personal foul in the entire game. UGA will dominate the line of scrimmage, and stop Tech’s run. UGA will inercept 3 passes, one for a pick.

It occurred to me this afternoon that many of us (me included) who are most vocal in our criticism of the Georgia football team and Joe Cox probably can’t play football nearly as well as the worst person on the team. Bad things happen, even to good, well meaning people who try their hardest. It would be nice if Cox and company could end the regular season with a victory over Tech…but realistically, I don’t see that happening. There were a number of warnings prior to Saturday night, but the second half of that game was truly an indicator of major issues–in my view PRIMARILY with the coaching staff and not the players. I’d much prefer seeing them stay home and skip the bowl game this year; I don’t see them being up to it if they continue to play as they have.

If I was betting I wouldn’t take UGA, and in the past I would always take UGA no matter who they played, however I’m going to go to the game hoping for a win and thinking that UGA can do it. The D-line I believe is better this year then last year, not good or great but improved. But everywhere else has seen a severe downgrade. I do believe the key to stopping the tech offense is the D-line, if you can get a push and get nesbitt running slanting backwards then you have a chance. Last year UGA didn’t do this and that is why when it seemed like uga made a good play they still gained 3-4 yards.
UGA will have to play perfect to have a chance and they haven’t done that all year, but miracles do happen….

To the Dawg fans who say that UGA shouldn’t go to a bowl at 6-6 – forget anout it – they are going.
The SEC has contracts with 9 bowls (if you include the Sugar) plus they will have UF or ALA in the BCSCG – that makes 10. ALL of the bowl elegible SEC teams are going to bowls. It’s all about making money for the conference and their partners.

Dawgs are and will be the dominating team in Georgia forever. Some of the fans not wanting bowl is clue less. We need bowl playing experience and to get to 8 wins.
Richt is a fine man and a Christian to make him bests coach fit for UGA. The problems is Adams and Evans for not standing up Adams. We got to help CMR get team filled his players by making Hargrave recruiting easy.
Even with stinky seniors we still best compared to nerdie bugs. Look for UGA to be wiping field with bugs and laughing to make fun of chumpy ACC teams. SEC talent makes ACC look like they should be playing in high schools playoffs and not Div 1 teams.

Should Georgia fire March Richt?
No!
Have you visited http://www.firemarkricht.net ? Any notion of firing Georgia Bulldogs Coach Mark Rich is foolish.
Yes, Willie Martinez, defensive coordinator, should be replaced. Yes, Richt needs to return to play calling duties for Mike Bobo.
And Richt needs to recruit more physical, hard hitting types of players instead of finesse ones.
But even Vince Dooley had his share of down, mediocre, and disappointing seasons. Go research Georgia’s win-loss record in 1979. We know what those Bulldogs did in 1980.
Now I do not expect 2010 to be like 1980. But the point is that every coach in college football should be allowed to have an occasional mediocre season, in the context of having mostly successful seasons – especially when most of those seasons land the team in a coveted BCS Bowl.
Remember that Georgia lost three critical offensive skills players (quarterback, running back, and wide receiver) to the NFL. Often the best coaching—especially during practices—come during a mediocre, struggling season that are followed by a solid, if not great season.
Time will tell us about 2010. As a Georgia Bulldogs fan, this 2009 season has hurt, but I also know I have been spoiled by success over the past few decades.
Yes, the Kentucky Wildcats winning in Athens was difficult to swallow. They’re a team that hasn’t won in 42 years (since 1967 I believe). However, Richt has had enough success at Georgia in which he has earned the opportunity to adjust, make changes, and improve.
Richt inherited and did not recruit David Greene, David Pollack, Boss Bailey, etc. While he did draft Matthew Stafford, Knowshon Moreno, etc, it bears repeating: Richt should recruit more physical, hard hitting types of players, and less finesse ones.
If Georgia foolishly fires Richt (which would surprise me), than more than likely his replacement won’t do a better job.
But that is really not the reason why Georgia should keep Richt.
Georgia should keep Mark Richt because it is the right thing to do in the NCAA world of “win now” and instant gratification. A look at his career coaching statistics should bring any logical fan to this reasonable conclusion.
Mark Richt didn’t suddenly become a bad coach after winning two SEC championships (2002, 2005) and playing for another (2003). When football teams have a disappointing season like this, the head coach has to be willing to analyze everything and everybody in the offseason.
In my humble opinion, team discipline is a significant issue at UGA due to numerous careless penalties, turnovers, lack of practicing fundamentals (like tackling), and frequent sloppy play.
The coach needs to elevate his game. Georgia’s offseason conditioning program should be evaluated, in terms of keeping players in their best shape in order to avoid injuries and to play in peak condition.
Also, assess the quality of the players and recruits from high schools. Evaluate each assistant coach. Are the players being set up for success? Are the players being coached to their highest potential?
If Georgia has one or even a couple more disappointing seasons in 2010 and 2011, then this issue will need to be revisited, and perhaps a coaching change will then be what’s best for the football team.
But not now. Not today. And even not at the end of the 2009 season after a meaningless exhibition called a bowl game.

Super Dog – you guys always talk about the PAST when it’s convenient, as in, when your team sucks now. Please tell me what any of the records in the past – even last year – have to do with this year’s game? How will the PAST elevate your team this year? How will the PAST help you to win on Saturday? You might want to stop living in the PAST and consider the future. You can’t change the PAST, you can only change the future. And remember, the future starts this Saturday. Tell me one good reason your team’s most recent performance (last night) gives you the indication that my team should be concerned on Saturday? The only one I can think of is overlooking Saturday and focusing on Clemson. I just don’t think that will happen for Tech with our biggest rivalry. Georgia does not have any hope of beating Tech Saturday night. Nor does Clemson at Tampa on December 5th!! Paul Johnson will be a Tech for a long time and will be a consistent winner. Bobby Dodd was at Tech from 1945 or so until the 1966 season. Johnson is destined to be there for the long haul, too.
Johnson was a winner at Navy with its superior academic reputation. He’s done the same thing at the most academically rigorous school in the SE United States. Having earned 3 degrees from Tech I can honestly say that most of the students I attended Tech with were just as smart as I was and usually smarter than I. Tech was far harder than the US medical college I attended or the residency program I trained in at the University of Illinois. And it was also tougher than the medical school where I studied in Europe for 2 years.

Check out the replays of your fans marching out in mass with over two minutes to play, timeouts and an opportunity to win the game. But, don’t be too hard on those fans – it just proves that UGA does have some smart fans that could see their team going down and just didn’t have the stomach to see it in person. I chose UGA becuase I didn’t want to be an engineer, and was not interested in those fields. I was at Grant Field when Mike McNames scored the winning TD against Alabama and the Bear. My father was an SEC referee,(back then Tech was in the SEC), and I got to see alot of games becuase of that. So, we are excited out here that UGA is coming here next Oct 2 to play the Buff’s. Denver Dog – you finally stopped the vitriol in your last post, so I will do the same. Good luck to you and your team. You should go to a bowl just for the experience, but not as a reward. We have had the same consolation in years past. No, we are not a dynasty and I’m not saying we will win 8 in a row over the Dawgs in the future (although someone else did, not me). Some of your fans think that UGA will ALWAYS be better than GT. We have our fans like that also. The truth is no one is guaranteed future success. CMR has done a great job with the UGA program, except for the past two years. Has UGA declined this far on its own, or is it a combination of UGA having a down year and the other teams in the SEC (and Tech recently) been getting better? I think it’s both. I also feel that UGA has been rather stagnant in scheming and coaching while other teams have gotten new coaches with new schemes, new talent, and better coaching. Will UGA answer the bell? I think so. I think the rivalry will be a great one for years to come. I will admit that it hasn’t been much of a rivalry over the past 8 years though. Let’s hope that both teams are healthy and ready to play their best game on Saturday. And, here’s to the best team. I’m Z and I’m over and out. Go Jackets!

While it does seem ridiculous for 6-6 teams to go to a bowl, the SEC does have slots to fill in those bowls that have the match-ups with the respective conferences. The ACC likewise has that commitment. One bright spot, it gives each team more days to practice, and that time can be valuable to the younger players. And, let’s not forget the money, that is really what it is all about for each of the conferences as thy share the pot of gold at the end! As far as the match-up in the state rivalry, yes, Tech should be heavily favored. However, there is a reason that they play the games. They are not won on paper or because of fan bantering back and forth.

It’s over, it’s done, 6-6 for 2009. Hope we don’t go to a bowl. Almost last in the nation in turnovers and penalties. Beaten by a very average Kentucky. Joe Cox has to be the worst BCS quarterback in the nation. Willie’s D strikes again … over 30 points. Drew Butler laughing and joking on the sidelines after a major brain failure. Mark Richt looking like he had no clue of what was going on. For the first time ever I’m a little angry at Mark Richt for allowing the Georgia Football Program to sink so low. CMR wanted Willie and Bobo and now he’s had them. Chances are he’ll want them for another year. If it happens CMR will be putting his job on the line. The Bulldog Nation is fed up with what CMR has provided the last half of last year and this year. He’s got to pull the trigger … Willie, Bobo, Janek and any other coach who can’t cut it needs their pink slip. I would have loved to have seen CMR in Coach Willie’s face and Joe Cox’s face giving them the whereall about what’s expected when you put on Red and Black. Never been so sicked and disgusted with any Georgia team like this team.

Ga players don’t have a Coach who is a disciplinary figure. When the team is playing like sh*t and there is a player dancing facing the crowd, that shows a major problem with discipline. Ex players have stated they played hard for Van Gorder because they were affraid of him. When looking for a defensive coordinator Coach Richt needs to keep that in mind. It’s call motivation and respect, like having a drill sergeant.

Even though it is popular to say “you can throw out the schedules and records” for rivalry games such as Tech-UGA, this particular series has seen very, very few true upsets. UGA is certainly talented enough to beat Tech this year, but it seems their collective heart really isn’t in it. Then again, with nothing to lose and the chance to pull something (albeit small) positive out of this season, UGA has a chance. Tech, cming off a rare bye week before the game, seems primed for an upset.

Tipical nerdie post about worthless diplomas. Were talking football not pointy heading schools. UGA is good at football because we gets the atheletes and our Christians. We gots athlete advantages and we given them diplomas for winning. Christians allows coaches to be understaning of athletes and developing them in lord. CAN SOMEONE ANSWER THIS QUESTION???
If uga were to have made it to a bowl aftrer Jan. 1, 2010, would we have been able to play Murray or Metz, and it not affect the redshirt? Does the redshirt apply to the “year”, or the “season”? Thus could we have played them in the bowl without affecting their status?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. GT 4 national championships, uga 1. uga continues to live off of the 1980 team. uga won’t win any more championships until they start scheduling some top five out of conference opponents and beat FLA, TENN, and AUB in the same year. Don’t hold your breath. Notice I don’t even give them the respect of capitalizing the initials.

Solid Gold Dancer-
Willie will have some special blitzes lined up for you guys. And he will disguise the blitzes so you QB trying to make a “read” is fooled. The corners can crash from the outside to stop the triple option, we’ll also send lb’s, 4-3’s will change to 3-4’s before your very eyes, and our d-line is tough–Georgia has given up NO 100 yard rushers this year and we up against some GREAT RB’s in the SEC, 3 NFL guys upfront–so bring that Dive up the gut this year–we look forward to putting our helmets on the ball and causing turnovers. You yellow fizzes run a High School Offense that’s a 1 trick pony. Willie and Bobo will likely not have another 26-0 collapse, in the same qrtrt, this time.

I don’t understand where any redneck Georgia fan would have any reason to believe they won’t get run out of Atlanta on a rail. I mean-your QB sucks donkey nuts. You have a lame duck defensive coordinator. You’re headed to the toilet bowl in Bumblefart, MS. You just got kicked in the teeth by a terrible Kentucky team on senior day and now you’re playing a well rested Tech team on senior night that has everything to play for. Once the cut blocking starts Saturday night I expect you guys to give in fairly easily and fold like the cheap tent you are. Look for GT reserves to be in by the third Q unless Paul Johnson wants to run up the score.

The play that absolutely showed georgias mentality
A simple punt, georgia instead of linning up and punting like most teams, georgia is running wing men in motion before the snap and being all fancy and the punt is easily blocked (was picked up by georgia but nullified by a face mask penalty)
maybe instead of adding all the fancy extra stuff they should simplify and be a fundamentally sound team.

For those who say Tech played a week schedule, they played all four of the (other) ACC teams currently ranked in the top 25, and beat three of them (lone loss is to Miami). ACC has more ranked teams right now than any other conference. Not saying it is better than SEC (having 1 & 2 in the polls says a lot) but the ACC teams are pretty darn good.

Did you see the 55 yard run by Ealey Sat? We got more of that for you, you’re going to LOVE our RB Ealey, he ran for 60% more TD’s than Herschel Walker in High School and 133 TD’s, and over 8000 yards. He’s just behind Herschel’s per yard carry average of 5.29, ealey’s at 5.0 ypc. By the way, Herschel was voted the #3 greatest player to ever play college. Ealey’s breaking his records. For some reason all of the Georgia Fans appear to solely point the blame at the defense this year. I do not believe the steel curtin could have bailed out the offense this past week. Maybe the entire coaching staff has reached a point where they all need to go. Change is good and the program at Georgia needs change from top to bottom. Too much sucess spoiled the program and maybe instead of swimming next summer the team will be working on what it should. The number of off field incidents warrant the entire staff taking a good hard look. The free shoes at FSU and test taking started FSU on its decline. Th ereal way to get the team back where ii should be is to dismiss trule breakers from the team.

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. GT 4 national championships, uga 1.”
Once again, another Techie tard, UGA has two NC’s and GT hasn’t even won the conference in 19 yrs. Two years of relevance this decade and you you act like you have really accomplished something. If you beat UGA again, (by more than three points) and you actually win the ACC title game (not happening, Clemson will shut you down on BOTH sides of the ball) and (hell will freeze over first) if somehow, you were to win a major bowl game (How do you make GT cookies? You put them in a big bowl and beat them for two hours!) then, maybe, you should be allowed onto a football post to flap your fat mouth about your sorry school, because outside of North Ave., the rest of the country could care less about GT. Our mascot died and thousands of condolescenses poured in from around the country and the from other countries. I unfortunately have to travel through New England every two weeks for my job and when I talk football most have watched alot of UGA football but the majority have never seen a GT game.
Get over yourselves. You are definately on the way up but you still have to put up a few consistent seasons and win some significant games before you can beat your chests.
Look at the UF fans if you want a true definition of classless, moron after a few winning seasons.

snellville jacket, It is the team as a whole, including the coaching. Especially the HC who has let this occur the past few years. If you had been on this blog long enough this season you would see that DAWG fans are blaming everything under the Red-n-Black. I think everyone is right.
I would bet (and I don’t know who is on CPJ’s staff) that CPJ does not have a RB coaching his WRs or WR coaching his RBs. That’s just one example. Here’s another, CPJ has done a remaretable job with alot of 2 and 3 Star players. While Tech may have a 4 Star or a 5… The majority of Tech’s team is kicking A$$ nation wide with lesser talent. UGA and CMR have been Top 10 in recruiting since he has been here and now you are seeing the results of CMR recruited classes minus DC BVG and Donnan’s players (Greene and Pollack). While it is true that everyone wants the whole staff fired from the 2 inexperienced coordinators all the way down to the strength and conditioning coach. Hell, even the Special Teams coach if we knew who the heck he is or if we even have one. But in the end, CMR is the one who needs to go. As soon as that happens, the rest will take care of itself.
By the way, congrats on a hell of a season. Keep winning and make the state of GA proud.

“All you have to do is turn the tape on,” Johnson said. “They’ve got some great players, just had some turnovers that cost them the game. If not for the turnovers, they would have won going away.”
Johnson praised Georgia’s receivers and said the running game has come into its own.
As for the rivalry, Johnson has experienced a few intense, competitive series in his career at Georgia Southern and at Navy.
“It’s neat to have a rival,” Johnson said. “One thing about the game being exciting is hopefully they are competitive. Last year’s game certainly was. I figure this year’s game will be as well.”
Last year’s game between the two schools was similar to the Bulldogs’ loss to Kentucky on Saturday. Georgia got ahead 28-12 at halftime, only to see Tech score 26 points in the third quarter to eventually win 45-42 and snap a seven-game losing streak in the series.
Juniors and NFL
Johnson said he will sit down with juniors this week who are trying to gauge whether they should make themselves eligible for the NFL draft in April.
Among the juniors who could leave are defensive end Derrick Morgan, B-back Jonathan Dwyer and safety Morgan Burnett. Wide receiver Demaryius Thomas is a redshirt junior who could also leave early.
Morgan is fourth in the nation in sacks (12.5), Dwyer has already rushed for more than 1,000 yards for the second consecutive season, Thomas has the size (6-foot-3) and hands that would seem to attract an NFL team, and Burnett has 14 interceptions in the past three seasons.
Johnson said he will sit down with each player and go through a list of criteria that could help them make their decision.
ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper listed Dwyer as the top running back in the country before the season started, as well as the most NFL ready. Nationalfootballpost.com recently listed Dwyer as the eighth-best prospect and second-best running back.
Kiper has Morgan listed No. 17 on his board (he’s 16 on nationalfootballpost), Burnett as the second-best safety and Thomas as the fourth-best receiver.
“If a guy’s going to be a top-10 pick or top-12 pick, they’re probably going to go,” Johnson said. “It’d be hard to advise them not to.”

If Bobo doesn’t start giving Ealey more touches after the 55 yard EXPLOSION play, you really have to question his decision making. Ealey hasn’t got 25 touches in a single game. Caleb King got picked 2x for Int’s–the guys were right in front of him, Cox was trying to pass King the ball both times. And King had 1 or 2 fumbles. Ealey had some amazing pass catches and runs–like the 55 yard burst. Bobo kind of has this belief that freshman RB’s can’t dominate or lead a team—even though Ealey led his team to a State Championship. If you compare Ealey and King’s freshman years,: yards per carry, TD’s, explosion runs, it’s not even close. I guess Bobo never really read much about Bulldawg history–a la Herscel Walker, who led the Dawgs to a Natl’ Championship at an early age with little “passblocking” skills. Bobo likes to rotate RB’s, he thinks it makes them “more competitive”.

Anxiety about our defensive play caused much shame about being associated with the touted Junkyard defense. Don’t give UGA VIII a big bone for Christmas but a new defensive coordinator. Otherwise, UGAs of past generations will haunt you down from DAWG heaven and will take a unrelenting bite out of your backside. The only team that EVER beats Georgia recently is Georgia. If we have no turnovers, we win. If we turn over the ball, we lose. Richt is an undefeated 15-0 when we have no turnovers. No one’s really ever beaten Richt except Georgia. Turnovers have been the story in our losses.

Just point of confusion. All you ugayers who loved Richt and my hate him now, didn’t he come from FSU (an ACC school)? And, didn’t he play for the “U” of Miami (another ACC school)? So, no coaches studied the film of two games Tech lost badly in last two years – that’s why Tech has an eight game winning streak, eh?
There weren’t enough films on Kentucky for Willie to study in order for him to come up with game plan? Is that why you lost to Kentucky at HOME??
You like to talk about the bad loss LSU handed to GT last year, but do you remember 49-10 beatdown FLA laid on you last year and 42-17 one this year? Did THEY hurt? What about 45-19 to Kiffin’s team?

“How safe if Georgia’s Richt?
The director of the TV crew at the Kentucky-Georgia game probably set a record for “concerned fan with his hand over his open mouth” shots, but the visual storytelling seemed entirely appropriate. Kentucky’s 34-27 win really makes me wonder.
For the past few weeks, I’ve said there is no way Georgia coach Mark Richt loses his job. He’s too good and his success from 2001-08 more than makes up for a lousy 2009. I guessed that if Richt sacrificed defensive coordinator Willie Martinez and possibly offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, he’d be fine. Now I’m not so sure.
Georgia will be an underdog at Georgia Tech next Saturday, and nothing the Bulldogs have done this year suggests they’re anywhere near disciplined enough to beat the Yellow Jackets. If Georgia doesn’t pull the upset, things could get dicey in Athens.
I still believe Richt will survive. Of course, I never believed Phillip Fulmer or Tommy Tuberville would get fired last year — until they did.”

Actually, BIRDDAWG, my social life was very active. But who cares about a high school social life? I kind of prefer to focus on today, not the glory days of old. Then again, I guess UGA fans can think of nothing but the past, and I can’t blame them. The present sucks pretty bad, and there’s not much of a future to look forward to. Sucks to be you.

You Ga Tech goons ain’t foolin’ nobody with your “Mark Richt Stinks” garbage. Yo, check this out Dog. Richt coached up 2 DIFFERENT QB cats to Heisman winners at FSU. Then Richt helped FSU win 2 Natl’ Championships. When Richt split from FSU, the winning days at FSU dried up like an old biscuit. I wonder why FSU stopped winning after Richt left the building? In 2001, Richt started at Georgia one of the MOST TRICKED OUT WINNING RECORDS EVER, DOG. Richt’s like in the top 5 winning % coaches from 2001-2008. Richt hit a little 4 game loss skid a few years back. How did he respond? Another MAXED OUT season finishing up #2 (shouda been No 1–we got robbed). We ain’t stupid man, we know cats from other teams jump on these blog boards tryin’ to talk smack about Richt. They scared he’s gonna stay and whoop their tails….or they tryin’s to get him to their team…ain’t gonna happen.

Wow… the Vick trolls were out in such a force that they forced Bradley to shut down his blog for the night.
Here’s the thing about this blog from Schultz: we KNOW Willie won’t have anything to stop Tech.
We KNOW Willie is a terrible defensive mind.
I love piling on Willie as much as the next guy, but what REALLY needs to happen is for the people in the media to start pointing fingers at the man REALLY responsible for the deep decline the Georgia program finds itself in.
Mark Richt.
Mark Richt is the man who refused to fire the worst DC in Georgia’s history. Nope, Mark Richt gave that man a RAISE!
Mark Richt is the man who has ensured an even rougher future for the Bulldogs by refusing to sit Joe Cox, The Human Turnover Machine, and pull the redshirt off of Murray, letting Murray and Gray play meaningful snaps the rest of the year.
Mark Richt is the man responsible for his team’s undisciplined nature.
Mark Richt is the man responsible for the lack of accountability, both among his players AND in his staff, that has led to this mess.
Mark Richt is the cause for everything that is going wrong and is responsible for the deep decline the program currently finds itself in.

If the ACC is so lame, would UK be leading it? Since the SEC is so superior and since UGA just lost to them, I have to infer my your message that Kentucky would be going to Tampa over Tech or Clemson. Is that correct?

For you Tech fans that think UGA has one NC, think again. UGA won the NC in 1942 and 1980 unanimously and won two that were not unanimous in smaller polls. At one time their were more polls than today and a great deal of discrepancy and disagreement in who was number one. Thats why we need some sort of playoff system.
As for the quality of the teams Tech has played vs. who UGA has played, I would have to say KY and Vandy are as good as WF and Duke and UVA lost to William and Mary. How is that for a heavy weight. By the way Tech beat our two weak sisters and both teams were respectable against Tech. In addition USC beat NCS and Alabama beat Va. Tech so our records against each other in conference play is even so far this year. As I already explained look at the winning percentage of the teams the two teams played it is a better indicator of strength of schedule. The teams UGA played have won 60% of their games and the teams GT has played have won 49% of their games.
Teach can and will be beaten, not only by UGA but also by Clemson.

Got to agree with Kentucky Blue, unfortunately. This has been a sad downhill slide for several years now- as long as VanGorder has been gone. Perfect storm brewing , and I doubt you will see much improvement next year. Face it; Richt does not have what it takes to coach at this level. Coaching also involves making hard decisions, which he has historically shown he has an inability to do so. Things will not improve significantly as long as CMR is in Athens. He may be a remarkable man, but not a great coach.
I am a UGA Alumnus and gave up season tickets this year- glad I did. I will not blindly support my University as long as this regime is in place. Blind support is what got this team into the mess they are in now. We are paying for goods/services that are not being delivered in any way, shape or form. Like any other business (which it is), you vote with your wallet. Firing Martinez, or even Bobo & Fabris is just window dressing. The problems are systemic, and go deeper than a few assistant coaches.
The Dawgs need a true leader- and I am certain that Mark Richt can be a great life mentor to these young men. But many are not interested in that angle- they are here to play football. And obviously, his message off the field has fallen on a lot of deaf ears. That’s evident from the thug-like behavior on and off the field by many, met by soft or no discipline. Arrests, team infractions, dreadlocks, tatoos, dancing to Soulja Boy on the sidelines, racking up penalties, sloppy play, etc. are evident of the lack of effect Mark Richt has on charcter building of these players.
Bring in a hard-nosed, proven coach and staff. Don’t tolerate any foolishness. Force them to cut their hair, stop acting like ghetto thugs, show some class, and PLAY FOOTBALL. That’s what they are all getting paid to do- whether it’s a salary or a scholarship. And UGA is paying Richt an incredible sum of money. Aspire for true greatness, on and off the field. That’s how you glorify God. Best wishes to Coach Richt and the rest, but your time is up.

If Richt were smart, he would turn down any bowl invitation(it would on be the Independence or Papa John Bowl), fire his entire staff and spend his time getting the best coaches available. He also needs to spend time with his committed recruits, he very well could see many change their minds about Georgia. Mark when you’re in a hole, stop digging and “finish the drill” next year with some good coaches.

As mediocre as Goff and Donnan were, neither lost to Kentucky in Athens. I realize that I was not at the game (thank goodness), but answer me this, please: When you’re up 20-6 at the half, and your QB has a tendency to throw INT’s, why pass at all? Could we not run? On Kentucky?
I’m a long, long way from beautiful Georgia, and few people over here will care that our vaunted, proud program has sunk to such a low level. I’m sick over it! Richt should remember that Phil Fulmer refused to fire his assistants. Lots of UT-Fulmer loyalists say now that he should have been dismissed several seasons ago. Remember that horrible whipping that Kiffin’s first team gave us a few weeks ago? Remember how Kiffin vowed NEVER to lose to Georgia? He may be counting on Richt’s mulish determination to keep Martinez.
If Richt does not fire Martinez immediately after the season and replace him with Rodney Garner, we will lose Garner, probably (back) to UT. I can’t bear the thought! I remember how Fulmer beat us like a drum, year after year, with so many of our own state’s better players!! Richt has won the recruiting wars because he has had Garner. Richt should promise Garner the Defensive Coordinator’s job NOW or resign.
Martinez probably saved Brooks’ job for him. I don’t know any Bulldog fans who want Martinez to keep his own. I wonder if a majority still wants Richt to keep his. I realize how successful and humble he has been, and he has made us proud. Still, this debacle makes me angry. The UT game and this one are simply inexcusable. We cannot tolerate this. The pronoun “we” includes Damon Evans. He has increased the contribution demands on season-ticket holders. With that money, he is being paid quite well to make tough decisions. So is Richt.
Has anyone called Prince Charles? He has had to live too long with blame for our last home game loss to Kentucky. Richt must wear this goat’s horns. Place the call, Coach.
I’m beginning to believe the insufferableTech blogger who laid Uga VII’s death at his coaches’ feet. Poor Uga, he couldn’t stand to see his team sink so low. It just killed him. I’m glad he was spared this latest humiliation.

“SEC vs. ACC. The Dogs have played one of the toughest schedules in the nation, Tech one of the weakest, ACC.”
That’s a good joke Wally. UGA plays in the SEC East, which outside of Florida is about on par with the Sun Belt.
Strength of Schedule:
#12 GT
#17 UGA
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt09.htm
Not to mention GT has played 4 ranked teams, winning over 3 of them. And that the ACC has more ranked teams than any other conference(5), and is about to post an overall winning record against the SEC for the 2nd straight year.

You losers that want to blame it on the players are IDIOTS. In the NFL, where the coach usually is not the GM, you can make that argument. Not in college.
Saban’s players don’t seem to have the trouble Richt’s do.
Meyer’s players don’t seem to have the trouble Richt’s do.
Kiffin’s players don’t seem to have the trouble Richt’s do.
Miles’s players don’t seem to have the trouble Richt’s do.
P.Johnson’s players don’t seem to have the trouble Richt’s do.
TCU, Cincy, Boise State’s players don’t seem to have the trouble Richt’s do.
Why do Richt’s players commit a lot of turnovers and penalties and have a porous defense? Why Richt’s and not all those other coaches?
Blame it on the players? NO. FIRE MARK RICHT.

barneyb, excellent post. I feel the same way. Richt is a man of character, but UGA plays more thuggish football than any team I’ve seen. I’d rather lose with class than win with brassy, tacky, thuggish play. Unfortunately we’re losing with thuggish play. That is really highlighted when we play the hated Gators, a team I used to consider thuggish until I noticed how thuggish we play against them. Embarrassing to be a dawg right now.

Tech fumbles allot because they run the ball more than just about anyone else. I wager if you compared total turnovers: Interceptions + fumbles, it wouldn’t actually be all that exceptional a number. When you put two games worth of rushes in one game, you are going to get a fumble or two.

As for the wake forest game. .the only thing that made that game even remotely close was a comitting a few ill timed penalties. ANyone watching that game at all coudl tell that Wake forest was damn lucky not to be blown out of the building. They got about all the breaks that coudl be given to them by tech given to them, and STILL lost.
As said: Shoudl Alabama be knocked out of their spot because of a certain game they only won because of a last second field goal, or does any SEC team get a special exemption from that kind of game mattering?

Ryan, Tech doesn’t even fumble all that much. Last year, sure. But last year the defense was also the strong point of the team, except for those last couple of games.
Georgia has lost 10 fumbles on the season.
GT has lost 11.
Georgia has thrown 16 interceptions on the season.
GT has thrown 4.
GT has 21 takeaways on the season.
UGA has 8, good for dead last in the nation.

You dont have no clues. The problems this year is the stinkyer players after losing Stafford, Moreono, and MoMass. We got to send the stinky player boys packing to bring up the Hargrave MEB with the SEC talent and speeds.
Saban dont have no prblems causing the Bama school kick the stinky ones out of program. CMR needs supporting from Adams to send stinkys packing to free up schollies for Hargraves MEN with SEC. I have been watching the Pups all year, they are our most serious rivalry game and I like knowing what we are up against.
What I have seen is a team struggling for an indentity. Moments of very good play and then Wham!, the alter-ego shows up and they end up shooting themselves in the foot. No consistency. And, no fire.
There has been moments of thuggery, something that seems to creep into the behavior of teams who lack discipline and tough coaching. Thus, the stupid penatlies. Thus, also, the turnovers.
The Pup defense has been the same as the offense. They have played well but not for an entire game, with the biggest let down coming in the second half.
There were a couple of games, most notably the Tennessee and Florida games that no one showed up, for the most part, the entire game. Embarrassing would be the word of the day. Then came the Kentucky game… first half Dr. Jeykell, second half Mr. Hyde. It just seems that this years version of the Pups can’t stand too much success.
I predict the game this weekend will be competitive in the first half. Even to the point of making some of us Techies nervous. But, don’t be. The second half has been good to the Jackets, and terrible for the Pups.
I would imagine something like a 14 to 7, or even 21 to 17 halftime score with the Pups in the lead. The final score will be something like 42 to 28, advantage Jackets.
The only unknown in this is the penalties and turnovers. Both teams have had issues with those things, the Pups all year, Tech has had some unnecessary penalties in the last couple of contests. Limiting the mistakes will go a long way to making the game more competitive for the entire sixty minutes.
I respect the possiblity of the Pups pulling an upset, so no ridiculous predictions of a beatdown either way. I am just trying to make a prediction based upon the trends and personalities of both teams as seen all year long.

I have watched the Pups all year. They are inconsistent. Moments of great play and then moments of terrible play. The offensive play calling gets funky at times and the defense, at times, looks clueless. But, then there are times when they look unstoppable on offense and great on defense.
The game this weekend will be close in the first half, and then it will get interesting in the second half. Interesting only because of which personality the Pups come back on the field with after halftime.
I still believe Tech will win, pulling away in the second half with a final score of something like 42 to 28, with most of the Pup points scored in the first half. We will see!

I fear that next year could be even worse…… 3 of UGA’s best players on D are gone: Owens, Atkins, and Weston. Even more scary will the QB situation.UGA will not have a QB that has any real game experience. I know that loyalty is good at times, but Cox should not have been playing all year. Some of you Pup fans are smoking some pretty high class weed if you think Tech is just going to fold up and lay down this weekend. The Pups will have all of three days to practice this week after an embarrassing loss to Kentucky in your own dog-pen. You have to be delirious to think it will be a Georgia beatdown of a very good Tech team.
Yes, the Pups could win, stranger things have happened in past rivalry games. But, one major difference this year is CPJ has this Tech team well schooled and disciplined in all facets of the game. The defense, though not as good as last year is playing better now than at the first of the year. CPJ is making outstanding adjustments, not just at halftime, but all during the game. And, we have added the ability to pass effectively to an already powerful run oriented offense.
I have watched both teams all year and I repeat my previous prediction. It will be a competitive and close game in the first half, but then Tech will pull away in the second half. The Pups will have too many mistakes, make too many penalties as critical times, especially when they start falling behind. No discipline and poor coaching will still be the thing that bites the Pups in the butt.
Go ahead and live in your delirious dream world of running the score up this weekend against us Pup fans. But, that will be the only place it happens, in your dreams.

Why is #3 Evans still on the team. He has been beat 3 times every week. The best thing about Saturday was it was the last time I would ever have to watch him at Sanford. Can our coaches not see that he is getting beat, he is out of place, he rarely comes up for the run. He just sucks. Not to say anyone is worth a poo beside Curran. He deserves a metal.
Cox….Cox….Cox…. Can you please say,” Thanks for your 5 years, please go!” You have to respect him, but wow, he is either good or really bad.
Willie, if you are here next year, I think you some special favors to CMR. If you don’t perform, you go. Just like every other business. Just ask Weis. RIP UGA, and the Tech fans really showed their class last week. I hope you reck your car into the goal post.

Here’s the real reason UGA “could” win.
UGA is still one of the more talented teams around. But they play horribly undisciplined ball.
They rank 119th in the nation in turnover margin(out of 120 teams!). Only 4 other teams in the country have been penalized more than they have.
These are two areas that can make a HUGE difference in deciding the outcome of a game, but are something a team can easily overcome if they come out and play focused. If for some reason UGA plays like they actually care about winning, then you won’t see all those mistakes and GT is going to have a challenge on their hands. But then again, after this season… why should we expect that out of UGA? If they had been playing up to their abilities all year it’s doubtful they would have more than 1, maybe 2 losses.

THIS JUST IN…BREAKING NEWS FROM SAVANNAH, GA. UGA VII’s suicide note was found. It stated that he could no longer watch his beloved football team fumble through and screw up the rest of this season. Apparently, UGA VII knew the team couldn’t handle the success of the Auburn game and he couldn’t take the very likely possibility of being the first UGA to lose to Ky-jelly in Athens since 1977. His note also stated that the defense, in particular, has become too depressing to watch and cannot be counted on at all. UGA VII just couldn’t take watching another minute of deplorable football.
Jeff,
Wil-Mart’s pathetic defense couldn’t stop GT with Napalm. Speaking of napalm, the turd-flies will torch UGA’s defense. They will swarm Wil-Mart’s defense like the turd it is. This game will be the biggest fire to hit Atlanta since General Sherman. I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out to be the ugliest, most lopsided, wood-shed beat-down in the history of the rivalry. I think Richt started kicking back and resting on his laurels at the end of the 07 season. Hopefully, the GT beat down will smack him back into reality if he hasn’t been already.

I hate to say this, but I think Mark Richt is done. This problem is bigger than firing Willie. It’s the whole culture! This team used to scratch and claw and run through a wall for Mark Richt because they believed in him as a leader. But not anymore. The defense is straight up quitting on him and Willie. At one point in last week’s game, the Kentucky player actually walked into the endzone. When that happens, the players are showing their coach that they don’t care. The offense tries, but they’re just not very good, especially with AJ being hurt. I look at Mark Richt on the sideline and he just looks like a man who is desperate, looking for something: ANYTHING, to motivate his players. And nothing is working. They’re just not buying in. I’m saying it right now, next season will be Richt’s last year, especially if they go 6-6 and a lose to Tech again. I think being the class guy he is, UGA will give him a send off similar to Fulmer’s, but we’ll be in the market for another coach by 2011. I think SEC football has gone into a big business/marketing mentality similar to the NFL, and to be successful you almost have to sacrifice your values (ala Lane Kiffin/Nick Saban). And I just don’t think Richt wants anything to do with the cutthroat part of the business anymore. I think Richt has lost the love for the game, I really do. And it’s so sad to watch.

Right now GT is better than UGA for sure. Better coaching, better execution. UGA has a chance on Saturday nonetheless, but the program is a lost cause until a new defensive coordinator has been hired, along with perhaps a new offensive coordinator to freshen things up and see if UGA can stick to a consistent gameplan each week. I see the Florida and Bama offenses having an identity, but UGA keeps transitioning, which shouldn’t happen when Bobo has been there for years. Maybe only Damon Evans and other insiders know exactly what role Richt plays in developing players on the field, but all great coaches have great coordinators and UGA doesn’t have any legends in the making. Bobo can stay loyal, but he sure better NOT have a dream of becoming head coach at UGA one day.

I see another high scoring affair. The greatest weakness of both teams is the D. Breaking it down by units.
Offense: GT
Defense: even
Special Teams: UGA
Coaching: GT
The difference makers: Tech’s offense is much more polished and diverse than it was last year. Last year, it was pretty much beating UGA on the perimeter with the TO. Tech is more diversified on offense with the TO action being the basis (and decoy) for a lot of other plays, including more counters, traps. midline options, and then when you least expect it, a pass. Huge height advantage with BeBe Thomas and Stephen Hill against UGA’s corners. R. Jones can help, but he’ll have to be committed for run support. UGA big D front will probably have the interior plugged, so Tech needs to find a way to get Dwyer in space. If Tech’s D Line can pressure Cox consistently and get him rattled, Tech could win big. If not, it’ll be a close one as receivers will be running free. PJ loves a little trickeration and with an off week, expect the unexpected. It should be fun. GT-45 UGA-28

I predicted GA would go 7 – 5 or 6 – 6 depending on whether or not they can beat Tech. So here we are. The reasons: 1) Richt didn’t change the DC. 2) Loss of best offensive trio ever at any school. 3) No proven QB (this was due to a pathetic defense the last 2 or 3 seasons that kept GA from ever blowing anyone out so that a backup QB could get some snaps).
Tech wins this one going away and if Richt does not make necessary changes he should go away. If neither of those two happen – some GA fans evidently will be going away! CMR – read the tea leaves Buddy! If UGA won’t pay a REAL DC, then they should take it out of your salary. It is rediculous that this man gets almost 3 mil when assistants get 2K. This year – 2K is more than anyone on that staff should get!
BTW – Don’t you think Johnson will fire his DC? Richt hangs on and hangs on. Clean house man. This staff ain’t got it. No discipline and no class and it appears very few of the players have drivers licenses! Good grief!

Hell, didn’t we beat you guys with Chan like 5-6 straight years? Yes, GA is struggling this year, but the ship will get straightened out. Braine used to be GT’s AD, he kept giving Gailey contract extensions and eventually said in public that GT shouldn’t expect any better, they just can’t win 9+ games every season there. He was done away with and now we have an AD who cares about advancing the program instead of just accepting that it cannot succeed, and we have a coach who not only believes but is more than capable of making that happen.

Um, Dawg’s D-line and D-ends are improved from a year ago. Secondary, not so much. But our run defense has been okay. If we lose, I bet it will more likely come from our inability to score than from bad defense.
Look at the Kentucky second half — yeah, you’d like your D to give up field goals instead of touchdowns when put in a very bad position, but what really beat us was 4 disastrous turnovers, yielding terrible field position in special teams, and our running game getting totally shut down. Can we avoid that against Tech? Ha, with this inconsistent bunch, who knows.

There weren’t too many schollies for this year, but still a pretty solid class. PJ was winning up to 10 games a season at Navy having never pulled in a recruit rated higher than 2 stars, so I’m not worried about it at all.
And if you’re expecting him to bolt within the next couple of years, I wouldn’t count on it. I can’t imagine one of the truly big CFB programs even wanting to take a risk on him unless he does something crazy like win an NC. And GT’s AD is doing all he can to keep PJ happy, he’s set to be the highest paid coach in the ACC starting next year.

Regarding Josh Nesbitt, he is a good QB for the offensive system that Tech runs but would not work anywhere else in the country. He may have a great career at Tech but he really has no prospects in the NFL. He is even more one dimensional than Tebow who has dim NFL prospects.

DDT, you think the athletes won’t come play for Tech? Dwyer will be in the top 3 RB selected in the draft (either this year or next). Demaryius Thomas is going to be a big-time NFL receiver, and is tied for the national lead with 24.4 yards per reception. Anthony Allen transferred from Lousiville and averages over 10 yards per carry. Tech rushes for over 300 yards a game. And they win.
Safety Morgan Burnett and DE Derrick Morgan will both have really good NFL Careers. C Sean Bedford will also be a standout pro.
If I’m a RB in the state of Georgia, which school do you think I’m going to want to play for, UGA or Tech? Sure, if you’re a pro-style QB, you may want to go to UGA, but CPJ ain’t interested in those types of guys, so it doesn’t matter. If your an OL, wouldn’t you like to block for a team that is 2nd in the nation in rushing, 11th in scoring and 12th in total yards?

Young players considering where they are going to go to college are thinking about two primary things: will I get a chance to play and will we win consistently. Prestige of the school, academics, etc, are considered as well. For the really good prospects they are interested in how much of a chance will they have to go to the professional level playing at said school.
Georgia and Tech both have proven they have the attention of the NFL scouts. It comes down to coaching and playing potential for the most part as well as academic standards when comparing the two schools. No slam against UGA, but it is harder to get into and stay in Tech in those first couple of years as compared to UGA.
So, with CPJ at the helm of the football team and proving that he can win and has a style of play that uses lots of players, Tech stands a good chance to pick up some really good talent for the coming years.
With all that said, the talent on the two teams right now is such that Tech holds the edge and the same goes for coaching. That is not to say that the Pups aren’t talented, they are. Tech has developed the talent they have better than the Pups have this year.

This game will be very predictable. We’ll play good defense about 80 percent of the time. The offense will move the ball up and down the field, sometimes with astonishing ease. End result: Tech wins by a touchdown or two. The defense will look utterly clueless 20 percent of the time and give up soulcrushing big plays. Cox and Co. will give Tech at least two touchdowns off mindless turnovers. Oh, and Tech’s average starting field position will be in the 35-40 range due to poor special teams. Very predictable.
I think Tech has played a soft schedule and is overrated. Unfortunately, we don’t do much for their schedule strength. Its become very predictable how bad we are.

Wow, when a UGA fan is calling Gailey’s recruits NFL talent, you know this state has turned upside down. Mark my words, I don’t care what kind of offense Tech runs, any athlete would rather play for Paul Johnson than for Chan Gailey.
The difference is coaching ability, Paul Johnson gets players to play at their very best ability whereas Chan Gailey would get a nice recruiting class but squander it with coaching ability….(CPH comes to mind)
I’ll take CPJ any day of the year. Oh, and if the Dawgs do pull an upset, Tech will not lose to Clemson and will win out at the Orange Bowl. Tech has never lost two straight under Johnson. That’s what matters. Gailey in 06′ was the complete opposite.

What are you thankful for, this Thanksgiving?
I’m thankful that:
UGA was mostly mediocre, getting “glory” only a couple of times before
1960;
Tech has won 15 conference championships to UGA’s 13;
Tech has won 4 national championships to UGA’s 1;
Tech’s Coach Heisman’s winning pct. was .779, to Dooley’s .715;
Tech has had 8 unbeaten seasons, to UGA’s 4 (Tech first was in 1901);
Tech’s post-1960, self-inflicted “disaster” was limited: 34 UGA wins, 15 Tech wins.

Mayretta Dawg – Did you go to UGA or have you actually compared the student sections at the games? They really don’t look that dissimilar, GT’s is just smaller. The student population, in general, is very different demographically, but not the students who actually attend games. Not trying to be harsh or critical, just realistic.
Now, back to the topic at hand. Who will win the game? Well, that will be decided on the field and I make no claim to be able to predict the future. Now, who do I think should win, GT of course. Anyone can make their predictions based on recent history and more often than not, GT would be that prediction. But that is why they play the games. Either team could win.
I think both teams have proven that they are not perfect. Turnovers and untimely penalties could be the story in this one. Let’s just hope for all involved that injuries are not a factor. These are just kids playing a game for our enjoyment and don’t deserve to have injuries that could change their future.
My prediction, GT 49 UGA 31 with the halftime score being GT 21 UGA 24.
It’s a rivalry game and anything can happen. I just hope it’s fun to watch and that the better team, GT, comes out on top.
As for Clemson, we’ll worry about them starting on the 29th.
FOCUS on UGA. GO JACKETS !!!

Everyone knows that UGA died from heart failure, but not many know the real truth. As most dogs do, he was digging in the yard and dug into a nest of yellow jackets. This is a big game but I like Tech’s chances this year. Was at the game last year and saw Tech make adjustments and never give up and come out a winner. The funniest thing about being there and really every team Tech plays is it has to drive the other teams nuts knowing what Tech is going to do. I went with my neighbor who was a UGA grad and he was perplexed why teams have a tough time stopping it. Teams know Tech will run 8 out 10 offensive plays ( thats 40 runs and 10 passes a game) yet they can’t stop it. Its fundimentals and discipline football and if you don’t have that, you won’t beat Tech. Go Jackets.

How could UGA have had a better defense last season with all the people they had injured? Schultz – maybe you should just stick to politics? You seem to make sense in that arena!!
Also to the frustated fan right above me – did you not give kudos to our team for not “packing it in” against Auburn just the week before? The coaches said Ealey was too “down hill” at the time of the pitch – that means he was too close to Cox when the pitch was made – would you expect Cox to stand there and hold the ball until Ealey got farther away? Joe should get some of the blame but not all, but he should get credit for the great throws he made as well.

Too many here seem to have very little balance and very little perspective and very little knowledge of the ups and downs of college football. This is strange given the long histories of both UGA and Tech. You would think both teams’ fans would display more knowledge. To those who see what has happened this year with Georgia as something that will take years to recover from, I say you are ignoring an awful lot of evidence to the contrary. Yes, corrective action is needed and it will happen and Coach Richt will be the one to make it happen.
