It’s hard to see Georgia’s defense stopping Tech
Any chance Willie Martinez comes up with a game plan to upset Tech?
In 2006, when a 7-4 and unranked Georgia team defeated a 9-2 and 16th ranked Georgia Tech team, it wasn’t difficult to figure out why. The Dogs’ defense rattled Reggie Ball, the oft-rattled quarterback, who went 6-for-22 with two interceptions and a fumble.
“That was our goal from Day 1,” defensive tackle Ray Gant said afterward. “As soon as we started game-planning Tech, shake Reggie.”
The biggest reason not to expect an upset next Saturday when Georgia goes to North Ave? The Dogs’ defense seldom rattles anybody any more.
If this is another indictment of defensive coordinator Willie Martinez, so be it. We watched Kentucky score four second-half touchdowns Saturday night, and even though two of those scores were set up by turnovers, the game illustrated Georgia’s lack of ability to make a play when it matters.
Question: Do you see Martinez putting together a game plan and inspiring a defense to the point that the Dogs can either: 1) rattle Jackets quarterback Josh Nesbitt into making mistakes, or, 2) slow an offense that is among the nation’s per-game leaders in yardage (449.6) and points (36)? I don’t.
Here’s a stat for you: If you throw out the Vanderbilt and Tennessee Tech games, Georgia has allowed an average of 31.4 points in its other nine games. Martinez might want to keep that off his resume.
Can Georgia put up points against Tech? Yes. But as much as the Jackets’ defense has struggled this season, it also has shown an ability to make adjustments and make plays when it has had to. (Another stat: The Jackets have allowed only one second-half touchdown in the last four games). The Dogs probably had a better defense a year ago, when Tech torched them for 409 rushing yards and five offensive TDs.
I suppose there’s something to be said for this being a rivalry game and Georgia players wanting to finish the season (pre-bowl) on a high note. But it’s hard to imagine any breakthrough coming now.

It’s still gonna be a beat down next sat night, but it is much better to crush a rival that has pride than one who does not.

Georgia can beat Tech, unfortunately. If Georgia stops
its turnovers and Tech has a few, Georgia wins. And if
Tech continues its practice of spotting the other team
two or three touchdowns, Georgia wins. The rankings
mean nothing. Georgia has the talent and the power.
If Tech thinks it is on top of the world and can’t lose,
something like last year’s LSU game is bound to happen

Hey King, if FL loses to AL and GT wipes out GA and Clemson, they how much you want to bet that GT will be rated higher than FL going into the bowls????
And that is realistic…. because Alabama (Roll Tide) looks like a lot tougher challenge for the Gators that does UGA and Clemson for GT.

So many of these posts are laughable and so short sighted. Tech fans should certainly enjoy this year and revel in the Dawgs’ struggles. And, you’re certain to win this weekend– no mystery there. But making comments about owning UGA for the next 10 years is absurd. Things change so fast in college football. Remember, that programs tend to have their greatest success in the first few years of a new coach. Then, that coach either leaves or the program gets complacent– UGA is exhibit A. What has USC done lately? How has LSU looked in the last couple of years (other than thrashing Tech last year)? Things go in cycles, so Tech, your Karma will bite again… it’s just a matter of when. No pressure, but a loss this weekend would be a major debacle.
Don’t get me wrong… losing stinks. I just don’t think you can look too far ahead on anything. Things seem to work themselves out.
As for the Vols, give me break. Perhaps you need to install metal detectors at the practice facility.

Since I have ties to both teams, I say to Tech don’t take this game lightly or UGA will beat you. UGA stop whimpering, stop being arrogant and support your team and your coach. I lived through Vince Dooley’s 6-5 season before Herschel got there and took the school on an amazing ride. I was there when Tech began their great team building in 1989 when they took UGA by surprised, and of course we know what happened in 1990. Tech should win, but maybe they won’t, and that’s why we play the game.

Just 15 months ago (August 2008) UGA had a preseason #1 ranking and everybody was wondering if Paul Johnson’s “gimmick” offense would work. Well at that moment I knew the offense would work and I knew UGA was overrated. Today I believe Tech is underrated at #7 (we would beat at least Boise and Cincinnati) and UGA is looking at a 6-6 season and car parts are falling from the sky!
I have no doubt that UGA will be back in the top 20 soon but they should be looking up to TECH for a few years to come.

It is unfortunate that you Techies can’t enjoy the fact that you are in the midst of a great season, and have a great team, without trying to belittle your rival. Like some bulldog fans have stated, they are going to need ALL the HELP they can get on Saturday.
However, I do believe we Tech fans should cool the trash talk until Sunday. UGA is angry and humiliated and Tech players are understandibly looking ahead to the ACC championship game and the Orange Bowl. Recipe for UGA win right there!!!!!
The only thing that Tech has in its favor is the fact that the game is at Bobby Dodd stadium. If Tech does not fumble the ball at all and keep UGA’s awful defense on the field, the game will be a blowout.

they went did it again. are the powers that be ever going to wake up in the classic city ??? does not appear as if they will. 32 years since kentucky has won in athens. no longer true. no real offense, the defense is a joke and a punt was blocked with the punter then getting a facemask call. did not understand the kicking game all night. how in the world are they supposed to beat anybody ?? they can’t beat eggs. bless uga vii’s heart, if he has been there he problably would not have made it through the game. may he rest in peace. total diaster. clean house and start over. the qback should have gone to duke. hope the reserves are better or else next year will be too long. let them play some as you might learn something, coaches and athletic director. @%$&##$^&^ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw CMR on tv today. He looked and spoke like he had taken double doses of Valium or some other feel good pill. He struggled to stay awake. Just like the dogs did last nite. This week, for fun, lets have all the dawgs line up their scooters and try to run down the coaching staff, and when that is done they can trade places, or vice versa.

I am back from the bar down the croosroads cause everbody just to sad and I am not wanting to be sad. Had me one crown and coke cola and then back up the doublwide I come fast. Roxanne got a chicken on the stove and soon it is dinner time. But I was thinken how do the BIG DAWG beat the yellabellies on saturday and the more thinken I do the more I am thinken the problem is the UGA7 died real sad. And here it is. The new mascot just got to be a pitbull. That pitbull ina backyard EATS. Dam at dog Eats lots so iffin we had us a new mascot on saturday then well we got no problem no how. So we gots to get a pitbull for saturday. I would let the boys have our pitbull and that would be ever so much fun and make me real tall here in the trailer park. But then I would be thinken on Roxanne all alone in the doublewide and no dog to bark in the yard and the men all sniffin round after Roxanne so I cant let the boys have our pitbull no way no how. I love Roxanne real good and she love me real good to but there was that one time so the pitbull stays right here where he is. Sure I am theres more dog nation fans got pitbulls so somebuddy man up and donate yore dog for the big game saturday. Then ha ha ha on the yellajakkets the BIG DAWG WILL EAT AGAIN. they mihgt even put your dogs pixture on the wall down the bar at the croosroads. whys it gots to be a bulldog DAWG anyways. For all the hoopla over the schedules of UGA and GT, the fact is GT played three teams that are currently ranked, none of which have a better record than 8-3, and GT beat two of those teams and lost to the other by 16 pts. UGA played three teams currently ranked and lost to all three teams one of which is rated number one and 10-0 one that is 9-2 and rated number 12, and one that is rated 19 with an 8-3 record. In addition to the above the teams UGA has played have won 60% of their games and the teams GT has played won 49% of their games. GT had its troubles with both the SEC weak sisters it played MSU and Vandy (Vandy pulled a UGA self destruction act that led to the one sided scoring difference, the game was far closer than the final score indicated). UGA has not played an ACC team this year so there is no intraconference comparison you can make other than Vandy which UGA beat by 24 and GT beat by 25, however, Vandy did not play as well against UGA as it did GT. Even more glaring is GT gave up 487 yards to MSU and only won by 11 points even with MSU turned the ball over 5 times.
In short GT is giving up 23.6 pts./game dfensively and UGA 26.63 pts/game. It looks like this game can definitely be won by UGA if they can avoid the mistakes as far as Turnovers and Penalties. So, Go Get em DAWGS Bite their FAT BUTTS!!!!

Your offense does not scare us one bit. We have faced C.J. Spiller(Bonafied first rounder) , the running back from Virginia Tech, all the skill players on Miami. UGA does not have more firepower than any of those guys.

Sorry the Dawgs lost to KY. I believe CMR is a good coach…he just needs to make some tough decisions and quit trying to be Mr Nice Guy. He is maybe the best recruiter in the nation. CMR should start calling the Off plays and bring in a decent D coordinator.

Does UGA have a chance this Sat? Not much of one, unless they suddenly at the end of season eliminate virtually all penalties/TO’s.
But, they weren’t favored over GT in Stafford’s freshman year against Calvin Johnson & Co and won late in the 4th. Better defense back then, though.
