It's so unusual for DeAngelo Hall to call attention to himself.
DeAngelo Hall apparently isn’t feeling the love in the Washington Redskins’ locker room. There’s a shock.
Amid the news that Washington’s LaRon Landry and Albert Haynesworth said they have been fined for their roles in last Sunday’s mini-rumble between the Falcons and Redskins, Hall — who sparked the incident when he followed Landry to the Falcons’ sideline — said on a radio show that he was “disheartened” that more teammates didn’t come to his rescue.
“I can’t speak for those other guys that’s out there on the field, but whoever’s out there with me, I’m ready to go to battle for ‘em,” the Washington Post quoted Hall as saying on “The Lavar Arrington Show” (radio station 106.7 The Fan). “That’s just how I am, whether it’s a verbal sparring or a physical sparring, I’m always ready to mix it up. And to see those guys kind of linger over there, yeah, I don’t know what was going through their minds.”
Oh, I don’t know. Maybe something like: “Do I really want to help him? Naaaaw.”
Landry and Haynesworth both told the Washington Post that they have been fined. Hall was not quoted about a fine, nor have the Falcons said anything about coach Mike Smith or strength and conditioning coach Jeff Fish , both of whom tussled with Hall. The NFL typically announces fines on Fridays.
Hall generally has been blistered by the nation’s media for his actions Sunday.
Haynesworth was one Redskin who came to Hall’s aid after he was circled by Falcons’ players and coaches. According to the Post, Haynesworth cracked a smile before saying: “I mean, Mike Smith did have him pinned up over there. I can’t let the old man beat up my cornerback, so I had to go over there and save him.”

Hall is a joke. He deserves all of the scorn of the public and the media. This is a guy who actually thinks he can play. Maybe he should learn how to tackle first. You need to watch this egotist talk last week to the DC media about one of his goals is to make the Hall of Fame. Someone should tell him that the Falcons and Raiders have dumped him on DC and that his goal next year might be to make the team. Falcon management was very wise to dump this clown!

After watching the footage of the rumble, I can say that D0Hall did nothing wrong in this case. He was pulled into the Falcons sideline by our own team. The fact that it was him is what made the whole thing blow up. People dont be so quick to judge others. He really didnt do anything but try to get loose. Think about it, why were the refs trying to pull him back out of the pile, maybe they saw and heard first hand. Another reason He didnt do anything….he didnt get a flag thrown at him and continued to play. If he was guilty to refs would love nuthing more but to penalize him or eject him and you know that. D-Hall was right.

You know the saddest thing about stories like this? They expose the reality that no matter how gifted a person is, no matter how much they are blessed with wealth, fame, and career paths most of us would love to have, when it comes down to it there’s something (I’d actually say Someone) missing inside. The recent story of how former Falcons quarterback Randy Johnson passed away poverty-stricken and utterly alone was heartbreaking to read, and I feel that a lot of today’s divas with chronic character flaws are going to suffer similar fates down the road. I don’t wish that on anyone, but if you want to die well, don’t live selfishly.

Good point Extremus….but think about this, when u have people constantly picking at you and saying things about you, it makes a person become selfish and more concerned about their well being. It is these people job to play sports and not our job to critique them wen they do bad. I mean our tax dollars dont pay them. Dying alone is something no one should do but what other choice do you have wen the world has turned its back on you. Think about what you would do in these situations. You right there is something missing inside, the love from us for what they do. Thry want it they need it, not critics…they are human too you know.

horner, let me explain a little about my philosophy:
Now, I’m not yet 30 years of age, but I came to believe in a philosophy espoused by a wise man in a bygone era.
I was exposed to this man’s philosophy here and there every summer while I was growing up, though I guess you could say it was mostly during the “April Showers” portion of the year.
You see, I grew up, as many in Gwinnett County, a Braves fan.
And every so often, if God decided to let rain fall during a day when my team was playing, the SuperStation would turn back the clock and broadcast this man’s mighty words:
Nip it. Nip it in the bud!
And so this became my philosophy. Nip it in the bud!
When you see something that is bad, don’t let it continue to fester. Nip it in the bud!
When you’re the head coach of a football team, it doesn’t matter if your best friend is the defensive coordinator. Don’t let him continue to drag down your program. Nip it. Nip it in the bud!
When you lose October after October in the baseball playoffs because your manager is too busy picking his boogers and making horrible line-up and pitching staff decisions, you need to nip it! Nip it in the bud!
When you have an idiot cornerback who is 90% talk, 9% speed, and 1% action, what do you do? You nip it in the bud!
Otherwise, your procrastination in doing the right thing (Nipping it) will lead to situations like the Georgia 2009 Football Season with the Martinez Follies and the Lil’ Abner Cox throwing pick after pick.
Mark Richt had plenty of chances to nip it in the bud, but he refused to.
Now it’s time for Damon Evans to nip it in the bud before this situation gets any worse.
Yep. Nip it in the bud.
It’s a good philosophy.

To ATL Hawk,
I’ve had no animosity toward Hall. Until his unwise scuffle on the Atlanta sideline last Sunday, he was just another guy who trash-talked before a big game against his former team; such situations happen all the time in sports, and the media is always quick to exaggerate the importance of their comments to boost ratings and fan reaction (take how many times the cameras panned over to Keith Brooking during our game at Dallas, for instance). Like it or not, players in any team sport come in naturally fired up to try to do well against their former teams, and some do so with class, others don’t.
DeAngelo Hall (and on a similar note, Michael Vick) were both Falcons players whom we all cheered for during their careers here, myself included. They both had some great performances and brought some good memories for the fans of this city. But now they are both on different teams in other cities, and regardless of why such a thing happens with ANY player, while I and many others wish them well in their future endeavors, in the end we still root for the FALCONS, our home team. To paraphrase Alejandro Pena when he came over to the Braves from the Mets in 1991 and ended up having to play them literally the same week, he said, “Yesterday they were my teammates; now they are my opponents”. That’s the attitude most Atlanta fans have toward Hall, Vick, and other former players from our franchises; it’s not (mostly) hostility or bad wishes on a personal level, just a natural realization that they’re now opposing players, that they’re some other team’s stars now, not ours, and that we have new faces and new stars we’re depending on to carry our teams to their respective championships. That’s the way of things in pro sports, especially in an era of free agency and off-the-field issues that crop up all the time.
As far as “picking on” Hall or other players like him, please realize that talent does not equal character. Talent is God-given, something you have naturally but have to work hard to hone to acquire status in any field, especially the NFL. We all know that Hall, Vick, and many others have done that. Character, however, is based on one’s choices and their willingness to accept responsibility for those choices, to be man or woman enough to admit mistakes and learn from them as we all have to. A wise person won’t wring their hands waiting for someone else to “get theirs”, because as Clint Eastwood’s character in “Unforgiven” said, “We all have it comin’.” There’s a Judge waiting at the end of the line for all of us, and He won’t care how many rings or trophies or money we’ve accumulated. In the end, we’re all preaching our own eulogy right now by how we live today.

j, I may have not been born here, but I grew up here my whole life, was raised here, and I don’t want anything to do with the far away land my parents called home (except for my family still there; love youz guyz!).
I’m Georgia through and through, even if my birth certificate says I was unfortunately born somewhere else. I have red clay under my nails and can’t sleep without the buzzing of cicadas in my ears. My life’s biggest dream is to play a round at Augusta National, and Sanford Stadium is my personal Mecca; the Hedges sacrosanct.
I bleed Red and Black. I wouldn’t wear orange if you paid me. I wouldn’t own a pinstriped suit for fear that someone might get the idea that I’m a Yankee fan. My ball caps have only two letters on them: a “G” or an “A.” The day I met Larry Munson outside the Carmike movie theater on Lexington here in Athens and shook his hand, words left my brain and I could barely speak. I think I said, “Hello, Mr. Munson,” but I can’t be sure.
My three biggest prized sports-themed objects are a DJ Shockley-signed football, which he signed “SEC MVP” mere moments after being named the MVP of the ‘05 Championship Game, a Vince Dooley-signed helmet, and a Skip and Chip Carey-signed baseball.
I wept when I found out Skip Carey died. I don’t know what I’ll do when Larry leaves us.
I’m a Berkmar Patriot (and, for one year, a West Hall Spartan). I’m a US Marine. I’m a Georgia Bulldog.

I enjoy reading your posts, columns, etc. However, your insistence on continuing to write about DeAngelo Hall is kind of becoming embarrassing. I am sure that with the beginning of basketball season (both the NBA and College) and with the NFL and college football seasons having so many interesting stories you could pick something else to choose to follow. Hell, I would be happier reading a hockey story. Please, oh please, I am imploring you to step away from the keyboard/typewriter the next time a DeAngelo Hall story pops in to your head. I am so tired of reading about a player that NO LONGER PLAYS IN ATLANTA. You are doing more for his ego by actually continuing to write about him…just please let him fade away. Thank you in advance.

I think most people would have rather have had Bobby Hebert’s wounded ducks than George’s tight spirals any day of the week.
You know, the Falcons were never all that good under the Smiths, but at least Bobby Hebert was someone you could root for (at least when he wasn’t an ‘Aint).

BugKiller…what if we could “fuse the two”….George’s arm…Bobby’s heart..??? just saying….as Dick Enberg would say…”OH MY..!!!”

I cried at the end of Rudy….tears of joy when that little no talent practice squad player from ND gets a sack against that north avenue trade school…. It was just so realistic…… Let’s hope the falcons have moved on towards Carolina. The panthers are not that far behind us. It is probably a must win game for them…

Hebert’s arm was dead by the time he got here, but he was a good guy. Chris Chandler was pretty good… but he couldn’t go more than three games without being injured. Chris Miller was the same story. I always wanted someone to slap that backwards baseball cap off of Jeff George’s head… maybe now he can get a job as assistant coach for June Jones at SMU… or maybe not. There was this other guy in town whose name I cannot remember… I think Tony Dungy got him a job as the scout team QB for the Eagles now… he was pretty good for a time, but he refused to learn the offense he was supposed to run. I think maybe he was distracted by other things. D. Hall was never distracted… he remained focused at all times… on himself. Some people never change. Now what was that guy’s name?

It is good to learn that the majority of the Redskins’ players did not feel the need to run to the aid of MeAngelo Hall. What a pleasant change….actually football jocks with brains.
I agree with others who have stated that it is time to move on to another topic in these articles on the Falcons’ AJC pages. If this is like the many Vick stories by Jeff, then we’ve only just started to read about the rehashed articles about DeAngelo Hall. I thought Terence Moore was bad, but I’m starting to wish that he was still an AJC sports writer and that’s an awful thought.

Hall reminds me of a guy I used to hang out with who liked to drink beer out of other people’s pitchers.

Maybe we don’t want to move on… maybe we like it here… Like cattle chewing on cud… munching it to a refined pulpy paste… metaphorically flushing the topic back and forth between one of our four stomaches… we cannot get enough D Hall discussion… maybe that’s all we have man… we are trying to distract ourselves from putting a jinx on the Falcons maybe having two winning seasons in a row… and isn’t that what America is all about… I, for one, am not going to sit here and listen to your bad mouth the United States of America…. I need my medication.

Poor, pitiful DeAngelo. He ran his mouth, he came to town, and he and his teammates left with a loss.
Now he wants to belittle them for not coming to his aid.

Hi, it’s Mike, y’know? Ready to start talking about my big return on December 6th, y’know? I am going to get twice as much playing time. Yup, I’m going to be in for two plays, y’know?

DeAngelo is a pathetic heap..sort of like the Redskins as a team. His ole’ tackle attempt on Turner’s run made Deion Sanders look like Tommy Nobis, the greatest linebacker ever to play the game and a surefire HOF’er if not having spent his career with the Falcons of old.
