It’s been too long since Richt, Dogs have had signature win

gafootlede.1028+ba21

This isn't the last time Mark Richt celebrated, but it might be the last time a celebration really meant something in the big picture. The game? Two years ago against Florida. (AJC photo)

Two years ago, Georgia made news with a team-wide celebration in the end zone. In retrospect, maybe the team should’ve pitched a tent there. The program hasn’t had a signature win since.

“I’m trying to think,” Mark Richt said Wednesday night. “Did we win any big ones last year?” And then he laughed, that little oh-jeez, has-it-been-that-long,  kind of laugh.

It hasn’t been an easy season for Richt. The Bulldogs are 4-3. They’re given little chance of upsetting No. 1 ranked Florida. Bowl prospects include words like “Independence” and “Liberty,” which would be fine if this was something minor like a revolution,  not college football in the S0uth.

Georgia still has five games left in the regular season, but it’s fighting a perception problem. Teams are defined, to some degree, by “signature” wins. Within the SEC, the Dogs have come up dry since beating Florida in 2007. They are 9-4 in conference games since the start of last season, and  those nine wins have come over (in order): South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, LSU, Kentucky, Auburn, South Carolina (again), Arkansas and Vanderbilt (again).  The LSU win looked big at the time, but the Tigers went on to finish only 3-5 in the conference. In fact, every win came over a team that finished with a losing or .500 record in the SEC, save the current South Carolina team (which is 3-2).

Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer got their revenge against Georgia last season.

Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer got their revenge against Georgia last season (AJC photo)

Meanwhile, the four losses came to Florida (7-1), Alabama (8-1), LSU (4-1) and Tennessee (1-3).

Fans cling to hope, and perception feeds into that hope. But when the mind has to travel too far back to think of a high point, hope deteriorates. Beating Vanderbilt a week ago after getting whacked by Tennessee didn’t build hope. All that did was prevent Butts-Mehre from being turned into the Russian front.

Georgia needs a win over Florida because the program has done nothing to affirm it belongs with the conference elite since that day in Jacksonville two years ago. There is no opponent left on the schedule, Georgia Tech included, that could send out such a positive signal.

Asked if he believes in the “signature” win concept Richt said, “I don’t think you can talk about them prior to any game. I think you can look back and say, ‘That was a signature win.’ Usually a signature win is a win that propels you into something very meaningful as far as a championship, or maybe helps define your problem. When we beat Auburn and that got us into the SEC championship game [in 2002] for the first time ever, that was a signature victory. But I don’t know if you can say when you’re 4-3 and you get a win, it’s a signature win.”

When asked what he felt was Georgia’s last signature win, Richt said, “I’d have to think about that. What do you think?” Told Florida, he responded, “Yeah, that was a big game. That helped propel us into a streak where we ended up finishing No. 2 in the AP.”

He referenced a win at Alabama in 2007. He even referenced a last-second desperation win at Vanderbilt a few weeks later because it stopped the bleeding following a loss to Tennessee,  set up a seven-win finishing kick and the enabled the Bulldogs to end at 11-2.

Similarly, one huge upset Saturday changes a lot.  “It could erase a lot of negativity,” defensive end Demarcus Dobbs said. “We’re pretty much down in the hole.”

What was Georgia’s last big win? “To me, it’s Florida,” he said. “A lot of people would probably look at beating an undefeated Hawaii team in the Sugar Bowl. But to me, it’s Florida.”

Two years ago, they had a dog pile in the end zone. Some thought that was a problem. Turns out, that was the high point.

Of course coach Richt can’t really remember the last “signature” win by one of his teams. Thats because they have been playing medicore (or a no show) in those games. Last year we had all the pieces together to actually make a serious run but we got “THUMPED” by Florida which was horrible. The latest teams being prepared by coached Richt seam to be lost in translation with the game plan. There has been horrible play calling ( a draw on 3rd & forever, why?) on offense and the defense has been leaking like a sinking boat. Until Richt can secure these aspects of our team then UGA is going to be medicore for a few more years to come.

Maybe that one act two years ago put the mind set of the program in such a state that it believes just because of who they are showing up they will win.

win here and there is a good chance we go 8 and 4. That will be a mix blessing. That will be the excuse to bring Willie back. 7 and 5 and Willie will be back. This team is not prepare nor can they excute the game plan. Teabow will have his best SEC game this Sat. There haven’t been any “signature” wins lately…..even LSU last year was tarnished by Georgia’s stumbling finish to the season.

The Doggies have teams remaining on there schedule whose defeat could be instrumental in reversing this trend of mediocrity, but can they do it?

There’s always hope…

There should be no excuse to bring WM back- even if we beat UF. 1 win over UF will not change what the D has done in the past 3 years- giving up on avg 30 pts or more. I know it’s a pipe dream, but i would love to see a NFL coach that’s not coaching right now (Shanahan, Holmgren, Dungy, Cowher, Gruden, etc) become a DC for UGA.

Jeff
Can’t say the 07 game was a signature win, if we win on saturday which will be hard to accomplish it would not be as much a signature win for us as it would be a signature loss for UF.
UF even though they have struggled on offense this season have only given up 2 rushing touchdowns and 2 passing touchdowns. Can’t get much stronger than that.
Our guys will play hard no doubt about that, and they do have a good chance of giving UF that signature loss.
We’ll see on saturday.

Is anyone else completely sick of hearing about that stupid celebration? So what? Georgia received excessive penalties for it in the game. It’s not like it went unpunished. Urban, the weasel, whines about it being “a bad deal.” good for him for coming up with a motivator, but the bad deal for him was Georgia racking up over 400 yards of offense. that didn’t happen because his team got taunted.

UGA didn’t get beat because Urban called two time outs. They got beat because UF put a lot of points on the board quickly.

When Spurrier took over at UF, he dropped Miami from the schedule and added a school for the blind and an open week before Georgia. That was the key to the whole thing.

The other thing is all psychological. Georgia always winces in this game. One year, UGA was poised to whoop ‘em, and one of the Florida players said the dawgs would choke, and sure enough they did.

This year they are better than UGA. There is no reason to wince, psych out, freak out, second guess, voodoo, or hoodoo. It is not about Wlaker’s record, stats, history, time outs, or Lindsey Scott. It is a game. They need to play it. Nothing to lose for the dawgs on Saturday. I say the game plan is this: if we come out with a loss, Florida better know they played someone. Win or Lose, Florida had better know they played the best and most brutal team in the SEC.

The only way Georgia wins this game is to play flawless. Go dawgs!!!! Punch them right in the frickin’ head!!!!!!

Now uga has an o-lineman (Vance) that gets arrested for running a red light and having a suspended drivers license. Articles say he was cited earlier this year for driving on a suspended license. He was suspended for the first offense but he’s not going to be suspended now that he receives yet a second one?

Think the game with UF this week has anything at all to do with this non-suspension?

For years all we hear is how Richt is the fine Christian and highly moral guy. Not suspending Vance for proper discipline and the good of the program is some kind of signature. I guess he learned well from the years with Bobby at F$U to become yet another righteous Christian hypocrite. And I just finished looking at him flipping the bird at UF last year during Urb’s first timeout. It’s on SportSouth and YouTube.

Richt has no integrity – he’s a tool.

Mark Richts’ defense has gotten worse every year for the last 4-5 years. His offense has no imagination, and does not utlize talent very well. Richt is a great recruiter, and with good-great coordinators his teams can be very good. However his poor choices at all major positions in the program have ushered in a steady decline in the type of product that is put on the field. CMR also has a very low level of discipline on each years team. I believe he confuses confidence with lack of discipline. His special teams have become progressivly worse, we our LAST in our conference in team defense. If our head coach does not recognize and make changes to the existing problems this program currently has, then he needs to be fired.

12 NATIONAL TITLES – 21 SEC TITLES!!!

Aticle is right on the money – UGA is not a member of the SEC ELITE – and has not been for some time.

This is a what have you done for me lately business.

UGA peaked in 2005 – and has been sliding since. Stafford and Moreno covered up a lot of the issues – and while 2007 was a feel good year – UGA still got beat by SC and blown out by TN. The Florida team was in transistion and lost to Michigan in their bowl.

UGA is not in the top half of the conference – this staff squandered their opportunity and momemtum to dominate the league. The facts and statistics speak for themselves.

The last game where we were the clear underdawg and we came out and won was the 1997 Georgia/Florida game (37-17). The sad part is that if I am correct the last time we beat Tennessee, Florida, Auburn and Tech in the same year was 1980, that is truly unacceptable.

How can a team like Florida with no history of winning SEC and National Championships explode on to the scene in the 1990’s and clearly dominate the East and the conference? As fans are we expecting to much or should we settle for mediocrity?

By the way, one of Richt’s two Florida victories should have an asterik since it was the week that Ron Zook was fired (2004:31-24) . The dawgs barely won that game. Richt’s florida record (2*-7), Tennessee Record (5-5).

BamaStan, I was at the 73 game in New Orleans. You so called 12 National Championships is garbage. The Facts below:
12 National Championships? … The Real Story

I just wanted to clear up a few misconceptions about Alabama’s claim to 12 national championships based on fact rather than bias. Credit is given where credit is due.

To clear up confusion, the word retroactive means they went back in time to award the championship.

‘TWELVE’ national championships is fraudulent, nothing but pure bunk ginned up by the SID Department. Here’s a rundown:

1925 National Championship- Alabama claims they share this one with Dartmouth. Who awarded the NC? Houlgate and Helms. Houlgate started his system in 1927. So Bama won their 1925 NC using a formula that didn’t exist until 1927? Helms Athletic Foundation started in 1941. Another incredible retroactive NC.

The Associated Press Poll has been active since 1936. The AP took their final poll prior to bowl games from 1936 – 1964 and in 1966 and 1967. They took their final poll after the bowl games in 1965 and from 1968 – Current.

1926 National Championship- Alabama claims they share this one with 3 other teams with equal or better records! Once again it is the Helms Athletic Foundation in 1941 that awards it!

1930 National Championship- The Davis poll says that Bama tied Notre Dame for NC this year. This was the only one to award it to Bama. Notre Dame was named NC in 6 polls! Parke Davis is another retroactive system! He (an individual, not an organization) did his in 1933!

1934 National Championship- Alabama says they share this with two other teams. The awarders are Dunkel, Williamson, and Football Thesaurus. Dunkel was an individual who came up with his own system. Williamson was a geologist who came up with his own system. Football Thesaurus first appeared in 1946!

1941 National Championship- This is a complete joke. The AP ranked Alabama 20th in the nation with 14 teams with better records in the top 20. Once again it is the Football Thesaurus that retroactively awards it. Alabama finished 3rd in the SEC that year. Mississippi State won the SEC title..yet Bama claims a National title!

1961 National Championship- Finally a legitimate NC. .

1964 National Championship- While the AP did award the NC to Bama (10-1-0), Arkansas had the better record, 11-0. Alabama played Texas in their bowl and LOST. The AP final poll was before the bowl.

1965 National Championship- The AP gave this to Bama. That year there were three teams with better records than Bama. Bama 9-1-1, Michigan St 10-1-0, Arkansas 10-1-0, Nebraska 10-1-0.

1973 National Championship- AP puts Bama 4th after their bowl game loss. Bama claims a NC from the UPI poll that was taken before they met Notre Dame in the bowl game and lost. There were 3 teams with better records than Bama that year. The embarrassment of naming Alabama number one caused the UPI to name champions after bowl games. Yet Bammer has no shame in claiming it of course.

1978 National Championship- AP gives this to Alabama(11-1-0) even though USC (12-1-0) had the better record Guess who Alabama lost to that year? USC!!!!!!!!!. UPI gave the NC to USC.

1979 National Championship- Their second legitimate NC. Their first Unanimous NC.

1992 National Championship- Their third legitimate NC. Their second Unanimous NC.

You can see why people ridicule Bama fans when they talk about 12 NCs. The early ones were awarded by individuals years after the games were played. These weren’t consensus polls but NCs awarded by people that had their own formula for determining champions. Some NCs were given before bowl games that Bama lost. Using Alabama logic, Auburn could claim four national championships. But when Bammers brag they like to say they have twelve and Auburn has one. How silly. The NCAA recognizes 6 NCs for Bama and there are only two NCs that Bama has unanimously. You can’t find an Auburn site claiming four national championships but there are plenty Bama sites claiming twelve.
Debunking the Alabama National Championship myths.

Bama…legends in their own minds!

October 29th, 2009

Truth is, as long as we average 12 penalties a game, we’re not having any ’signature wins’. The discipline that keeps us from false starts on 3rd and 1 and lining up in the neutral zone or jumping offsides when the other team has 3rd and 1 is the same discipline we need when facing option based offenses like Florida’s and Tech’s.

Let me throw out a better question. When was the last time that coaching actually won a game for UGA. I’m a Dawg fan and have been for life but their has been too much KoolAde drinking over the last several years. The poor play calling is nothing new and goes back well beyond Bobo. I ask you to list the signature wins, not just in the last two years but in his entire tenure. They are not there.

How about a signature loss? Go back to the Florida loss in 2002. Georgia was unbeaten, David Greene was in a rhythm, and they were up in the game. The always stubborn Richt brings Shockley in and the game is given away. Greene never finds that rhythm again and Shockley throws a stupid interception that’s returned for a touchdown. Richt’s stubborness cost them the game and, I will contend, a chance to play in a BCS championship. It’s the same stubborness that resulted in another year of a Willie Martinez-lead defense.

THIS IS NOTHING NEW! It’s been going on throughout his time at Georgia. Top tier SEC teams don’t struggle yearly against SC, Vandy and KY. It may happen occasionally but not year-in and year-out. It’s happened year-in and year-out at UGA. I love the Dawgs but it’s time to call a spade, a spade. Being a wonderful Christian man, or even a great assistant coach, does not make you a great head coach.

I don’t believe it there is actually a picture of CMR showing more emotion than usual funeral home director look he gives on Saturday’s.

I know why CMR is showing emotion in the above picture Willie made a defensive half time adjustment that actually worked. I am sorry that is not it. Willie does not make any half time adjustments.

I’m not going into this game with any preconceived notion that we are going to walk away with a win. Sadly enough, even tho we have won the last few games, the games themselves were played like we were right out of highschool. Way too many mistakes that could have totally been avoided. I mean, even Miss ran that beautiful play (where the true freshman caught the pass from Tebow in our endzone and ran it 100 yards for a touchdown) but we still recovered to win. I don’t care what team you are a fan of, that was a kick a** play!. I hope our boys will take this game seriously, and show everyone what they CAN do! Go Gators!

Your Tide has been getting their butts kicked since the last championship in ‘92 and just like that idiot yellow fuzz, a mediocre 1 1/2 year run of decent football and your both talking trash like your programs have been dominant. Both of you may want to check your records against the Dawgs the past 15 years and after you have that run, then fire off with smack, until then, for Gods sake, don’t let a little thing like facts get in the way….morons!!

Michael Stipe – is that really you? Wow. Loved Lifes Rich Pageant, dude.

I expect the game to be kinda close, actually. For awhile. But Georgia just hasn’t done anything all year to suggest they’re going to make the plays needed to beat Florida.

Florida’s recent close calls actually work against the Bulldogs. The Gators are angry, have a chip on their collective shoulder, and looky who’s next? Why, an underperforming Georgia team that they mostly own. A good victim to take out their frustrations upon.

Tebow – 16/23, 229, 2 TD, 1 INT (deflection, early, gets UGa hopped up) + 10 carries, 45yds, 2 TD.

Bowl games have become totally and completely worthless. Sad time in college football that we no longer even get good compelling bowl matchups…. it’s just an end of season hollow money grab with nothing to play for in the bowl games the players don’t even play hard.

For Georgia to maintain any modicum of success they are going to have to have some consistancy with QB’s both lines of scrimmage and they are going to have to play with fire and passion within the rules. I have no idea what could lead them into success… I know they have plenty of talented players but they do not seem to have the right ingredients toegther playing this kind of schedule is a good thing but they have to be ready to accept the challenge… this team wasn’t.

joe taxpayer and shultzie,

Buck is a homer, obviously, but he’s still fair with his criticism of the program, but yes, he does seem to shy away from offering any serious solutions to the problems. Kincade is a yankee carpetbagger (as Buck calls him) that for whatever reason, has a hair up his a$$ with UGA and takes much delight in their losses. Personally, I think this disdain for UGA from Kincade comes from one of several possibilities.

A. He probably got his little gnome self beatdown for popping off to a UGA fan while in a drunken stupor.
B. He probably got his little gnome self beatdown when a UGA fan made fun of a short, middle-aged, white haired troll wearing a football ,or baseball, jersey in public like he’s a child.
C. His wife probably has a crush on Richt.

I’m sure there are more probable scenario as well, but those are just my guesses.

Teams on top do not ever go into games expecting to lose. They have confidence in thier abilities even when down. I’m not sure when the last time we saw that from Georgia…. perhaps the Hawaii game…but that was a horrific mismatch and the world knew it…. well everyone outside of the Fox broadcast booth anyway.

Spurrier (pre NFL disaster), Saban, Meyer, Belichick and Paul Johnson etc. all exude confidence and some brevado borderline arrogance. Pete Carroll has some of that too though he dosen’t show it in the same way. If Georgia is going to win consistantly they need to get something of that fashion from Mark Richt.

“Jacksonville officials have tried to downplay the game’s image as the “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party,” but the reality is that some fans still drink too much before, during and after the game.

So the city is sponsoring five “sideline safety zones” outside the stadium where fans can get help — any kind of help. The zones will be stocked with cell phone chargers, water, coffee, snacks and such. Sideline safety zone volunteers will help people find lost friends, a taxi or a hotel, and medical personnel will be there to tend to health issues.

City officials say the zones are also open to those who have had a little too much to drink and need to rest.”

A sad commentary on the fans of both schools.

UGA has not been a solid football program in many years. Richt had them pointed there early on but with his family illness issues, and other things, he has simply put football back about 3 or 4 spots in his daily thinking and executing of priorities. He believes entirely in that fact that “it is in the hands of the Lord.” NO, it is in the hands of Dr Adams and Mr Damon Evans.

Look at his staff, look at his so called LACK of signature wins, look at their inability to tackle, etc. He was ill prepared when No Show left after only two years of play ( not counting the red shirt year) and had no competent back up running backs. Why??? He had no competent back up Qbs. WHY?? These two shortcomings, coupled with NO D coaches and no big time D players have led us to this point. Many experts now suggest that the um, ah, um “talent” at UGA is lacking and was over rated.

I predict after the upcoming Gator beat down, that UGA players will lay down in every game, like they did in the 2008 Tech game and the season will turn very, very ugly. Then and only then, will changes be forthcoming. Adams and Evans will witness the loss of a competitive attitude among the team and they will implement major changes, that might even include Richt, if he does not ACCEPT THEIR DECISIONS, come December.

Georgia Tech is one of the most average teams ever, in the history of college football. Play in a weak conference, have two 7 games losing streaks to your in state rival since 1991. In order to have a signature win you’d first have to be able to write. The headline stories about the arrests of UGA football players Vince Vance and Vance Cuff illustrate what is wrong with today’s journalism. The nattering nabobs of negativity focus on only negative stories. Thus these two unfortunate UGA players who simply have figured out how to drive are highlighted. There are literally dozens of UGA football players who haven’t been arrested in months. Do they ever make the news? No. UGA doesn’t need a new OC or DC; the most pressing need is for a Driving Coach who can instruct UGA players about steering wheels, engine throttles, brakes, right turns, left turns, backing up, etc. Do hope Coach Richie Rich does well. If he doesn’t whip up on them Gators he could have his commercials switched from Ford F150s to Ford Pintos sold at Cletus’s used car lot in Ducktown, TN. Woof. Woof. Woof.

A lot of UGAs and other teams problems come down to loyalty. I don’t mean from the fans. Head coaches in general are very loyal to their assistant coaches. This seems like a fine quality to have, but it should be one that is earned. Too many head coaches stay loyal to coordinators too long, especially when they have proven little. Will Muschamp would have come home when Van Gorder left, if he had been asked. Instead let’s promote a position coach left with amazing talent and see what he can do. Will Muschamp was a proven commodity in freakin’ SEC and I don’t think he was even considered.

This loyalty to his assistants is starting to tarnish perception of the head coach. At the season’s end he needs to evaluate all jobs, including his own, and make a decision on whom to keep. Willie Martinez should be out.

Several people blame the players, but players, when prepared properly, play better. See UGA defenses under: Erk Russell and Brian Van Gorder; UF defense under Charlie Strong; UT defense under Will Muschamp. Need I say more?

Look, CMR has done a good job getting UGA to the point where the team’s and the fan’s expectations are at an all time high. I think it is now time to pass the torch. We have been having the same arguement for the past month. The list of excuses is eveything from the staff to the quality of the players. Everythin with the exception of CMR. I have been saying this over and over for the past month that it all lies at the feet of CMR. He picked the staff, he promoted both the OC and DC with no experience to speak of. He set the agenda for Garner to coordinate the recruiting efforts on all these untalented and stupid players ( as some on here have called them). So, tell me please, how does CMR get a free pass here and everyone else from the coaching staff to the players get thrown under the bus. 80 wins and 10 win seasons? 10 win seasons are a joke anyways nowdays when you factor in that the extra games per year UGA plays. CMR has done nothing but stay in neutral since BVG left along with Jim Donnan’s players. Heck, maybe we can bring Donnan back to be Recruiting Coordinator. He could find talent…

I would love to see UGA beat FLA, but all that will do is give Richt an excuse to keep his subpar coaching staff in place. He must make changes! I was listening to Buck & Kincaide yesterday and they had FLA beat writer Pat Dooley on, and this was his exact words “the problem with Georgia is their coordinators”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most of you will say he doesn’t have enough knowledge to make that assessment, but he was very insightful. He made a lot of good, solid points and basically stated facts. If it’s this obvious to almost everyone, why isn’t this obvious to Mark Richt?

I agree with the comments about David Greene getting the team pumped up and being a real leader. We haven’t had any leaders since him, Thomas Davis, David Pollack, etc. That, along with coaching, is a HUGE problem. When you see coaches on the sidelines who NEVER show emotion–on good or bad plays, it filters on to the players, as well as the fans. If the coaches can’t even get pumped up, who can expect the players to? I am a huge Mark Richt supporter and always have been, but it would be nice if he’d act like he cares.

Otto

Shards, when you say implement major changes it sounds like demanding replacement of the DC, OC etc. I would argue that forced coaches changes only produce a very temporary change and in the long run create division in the coaching staff. Auburn, and UT last year are 2 exapmles with FSU and Jimbo being another. If you have to demand change IMO start over and get a new staff that can work together.

Signature wins, I think the LSU game was a signature win last year, becuase it marks how we won all of our games except the bowl game. Sloppy play, No defense, no running game, great punting, great kicking, no coverage.

Jeff Schultz, you may want to check this Big Earl as he obviously is violating your decency policy.

Here is my prediction, the stands will be 2/3 gator fans. The officials will be extra nice to UGA. It might rain. Ga Def will handle the Gators if UGA keeps the ball for at least 13 minutes of the first half. It could get ugly. UGA wins by 9. Vandy gives Tech all they can handle for a while, and then Tech will pull away for a big win.

Think they have a right to celebrate that, picked as underdogs and coming back in the 3rd quarter ..all this with a first yr coach..what is really funny though is the UGA fans arrogance, I mean what have you done since 1980 with all that top 10 recruiting talent, nothing thats what..coming up short for 29 years

Big time?? Not,

“Four tickets, four hot dogs, four cokes”

Lol. Don’t they teach Marketing at georgia?

You sell four tickets for let’s say $40.00
Four seat rental probably costs you about .20 cents
Four fountain Cokes only cost you about .40
Four hot dogs cost you about .15

You make $40.00 for the cost of .75 cents

It’s a win-win.

Only a georgia alum could not see the value in this COKE ZERO promotion that the following people have also used multiple times during this economy to enable more families to attend more games.

University of Alabama Football
West Virginia Football
Indiana Football
Oklahoma Sooners Football
University Cincinnati Football

Houston Astros
Atlanta Braves
Arizona Diamondbacks

Detroit Red Wings Hockey

UC Santa Barbara Basketball

Colorado Rapids Major League Soccer

Lowes Motor Speedway
Atlanta Motor Speedway

In my opinion, I think it’s a lot better than just sticking it to your alumni in one lump sum the following season.

I watched the Tennessee replay talk show and Tennessee outplayed Bama pretty much every where except in the score. I don’t like his recruiting tactics but the guy has his team playing their butts off for him and it shows. He’s already saying things like “thats OK we get them in up here next year”.Kiffen has taken a rebuilding type year with a new coaching, new system and put physical whoopings on the BAmas and Gators of the world. Impressive. I just wish our coaches could coach our guys up like that, for whatever reason they don’t. I expect Saturdays game to be over by mid 3rd quarter and it’s a shame because we have every bit as good of players as Tennessee, it’s all in the coaching!

I’m a dawg fan from way back. Win, lose or draw I’ll still love them. I still a CMR fan too. But…….

What really bugs me the most (besides Tech) is that the Bulldogs have lost their identity. Use to you could count on a well discipline, hard hitting, in your face defense and a solid no thrills offense. Use to be when you played the dogs the opposition knew what that needed to do to stop them, they were just helpless to stop it. The defense attacked, the offense steam-rolled…when the game was over the other team didn’t walk off, they limped off.

This team here plays with no heart. They seemed more afraid of making a mistake than making a play. They seem content to lay back on defense and wait for the other team to make a play. Why does this team not attack anymore? Why kind of football are we playing at Georgia now? I’m ashamed, I’m embarrassed, I’m shocked. Time for this team to quit laying down and start to play some Georgia Football. They need to go out and punch Florida in the face right off the bat just to remind them who Georgia is (they have obviously forgotten)! Then play an attacking swarming defense. Not even the great Tebow can throw or run with three guys hanging on him. The offense needs to play ball control and wear the Florida defense down. There is no reason this team cannot beat Florida, NONE!

The time is now CMR….prepare this team the way I know you can, and play some hardnose, in your face, SEC football!

Go Dawgs!

I really don’t have a problem with Richt’s loyalty to his assistant coaches to a certain degree. I don’t believe you should start chunking your coordinator because you have a bad year. If you have a run like we have on defense then obviously changes need to be made. I think Richt has allowed Willie the time to get things straightened out and it just hasn’t happened. Make changes, everybody is man enough to say it just didn;t work out. With Bobo I think Richt knows and we as fans should know is that he is still learning at that position. And I don’t have a problem with that. He will make mistakes, he will make big mistakes. He is adjusting to a new QB and will be again next year. I think he did a good job last year with the exception of the Florida game (remember they scored 30 in the second half of the Bama game). I would give Bobo another year or two to get it together. He has the talent on hand he just needs to figure out how to utilized it. Things aren’t so bad in Athens we fans need to hang in there.

Sadly, THIS is our bowl game/National championship Game on Saturday. The Dawgs can either bend over or fight if they get down 10 or 14-0. It’s really too bad Smart or Muschamp aren’t available after the season. For CMR to be such a developer of QBs, Joe Cox is a try hard/effort guy: nothing more. As a freshman, Matt Barkley@USC is better than ANY QB in the SEC West(even Mallet or the overrated Snead) & from a pure QB skill set, even better than Tebow or anyone else in the East. Hopefully CMR can get a kid like him because lifetime achievement awards only mean something if you have talent;which Cox does not. It is amazing to me that Georgia fans are so critical of Mark Richt. He is an amazing coach averaging 10 wins per year! I believe that Georgia will lose to Florida due to the Gators #1 Defense in the NCAA this year. Also, remember that defense and ball controll win championships, not offense. Ask the Huskers of the 90’s!

You would benefit more by complimenting your coach than by suggesting he needs a signature win. He is a fine man and has created a nice record for your state. Florida has earned respect nationwide with professional management of special teams and defense, but the offense has stole the show. Many in Nebraska believe Florida will win its 3rd national championship in 4 years based on good old fashioned physical smash mouth football!

You should not be harsh with Coach Richt, but be more critical of yourselves by not understanding that he is a remarkable man.

It doesn’t matter which Vince or Vance it is, an arrest the same week as a game is usually grounds for a suspension. And all you Mutts know it, too. Richt has never been a true disciplinarian and is showing that he doesn’t care what it takes to win. Did Vance fail his drivers test or is his license suspended from a previous run in with the law? My guess is the latter.. Its funny how this is swept under the rug by the AJC, with none of the AJC writers questioning Richt’s decision to allow him to play. And again, before you mutts start talking about the offense itself- it doesn’t and shouldn’t matter. An arrest is an arrest is an arrest… Anybody that holds themselves out to be on a higher moral ground should immediately suspend the guy. But not St. Richt and certainly not for the Florida game! unbelievable, hypocrite.

This is a law of nature which Mark Richt hasn’t caught onto yet. You CANNOT keep doing the same things and expect different results, especially since the same things aren’t working.

The cure to the DAWGS defensive woes could be cured if they were shown some film of Erk Russell’s Junkyard Dawg defenses. Erk was the ultimate motivator. This team needs a heavy dose of this both from the DC and CMR to have any chance on Saturday. Having said that, let me say that most of you must live pathetic little lives. Only on the campus of UF do you find guys still wearing hoop earrings, gold necklaces, turtle necks and frosted tipped hair like it’s 1992. Regardless, to not suspend Vince Vance shows the lack of accountability and integrity that this program has. You wonder why there’s a lack of discipline on this team? And for the AJC to do a puff article on this shows their complicity -but then, we’ve come to expect that.

After the Dawgs have their noses rubbed in gator feces, this would be a great opportunity for the Georgia Highway Patrol to bar the Preacher Man Richt from reentering the state with his Deacons Bozo and Willie the Clown. Those millions of dollars in salary on his chest of drawers back home could be applied to lower each student’s tuition by about $100 this year… Then let’s hire a real coach of men instead of a Hollywood type.

Last signature win, yup Florida 2007, as the picture showed the last time Mark Richt showed any emotion on the football field. And now look at how the Dawgs are playing. Its not hard to see a correlation. I think the 2007 Bulldogs were my favorite team to watch, they played with emotion and heart and they drew that from their coach and from Knowshon. Remember Solja Boy? Sure it was kinda corny but the whole team got into it. Last season, that emotion was gone and the results showed it. Now this year, the same and now without Stafford and Knowshon. I think Richt took the criticism of the 2007 Florida game to much to heart and it ended up taking away his emotions in the game. On Saturday, Urbane will have his team pumped and ready, simple thing to say is, Georgia, yes Georgia is standing in your way to another NC, now go play like the number one team. While I suspect the speech will be like, this is the game you’ve been waiting for, win this one and the past is forgotten. Funny thing is, I see one team going on the field expecting to win, another hoping to win. Wonder which one has the better chance. As always, Go Dawgs!!! Gaturds Suck!!!

C’mon Coach Richt! You suspended the young man caught riding a scooter on the sidewalk recently (backup player Vance Cuff), but you’ve decided not suspend Vince Vance, probable startting offensive lineman, who ran a redlight. Which is more likely to cause a terrible crash, running a redlight, or scooting down the sidewalk? Both had no valid license.
I’m a Christian, so I appreciate Richt. BUT he’s no Tebow!
Likewise, smelly pups don’t compare to mighty Gators.
Oh and to all fans of the slobbering mutts, if you want to talk about the past – GT has 4 NCs, and UGA has 2. Thats the ultimate isn’t it, the National title? Nothing else matters as much. But if you want to talk about the present, then lets look at who’s ranked, and who ain’t. Or compare records, 7-1 to 4-3.

Not going to happen this year. Fans think the Gators are vunerable. They are No 1 in the country and that’s not vunerable. Fans forget how bad we are. We are not ranked. We have no Defense. We have no Offense. We have no coaching. Instead of thinking we have a chance. How about this is the year they beat us 60-0.

I’m going to enjoy watching georgia lose saturday a little more than I will enjoy seeing Tech win.
Especially if they lay down early like they did last year.

Someone said earlier that this would be one UGLY game. THey are right. Thing is though, it will be UGLY for both teams. UGA is just not gonna score against UF’s awesome defense, and UF’s offenses will struggle with staying out of their own way. I could see a 17-13 game with Tebow pressing so hard not only for the TD Record but also just to score some TDs inside the redzone.

This will be an interesting battle. UF piles up yards and bogs down in the RZ. UGA on the other hand gives up acres of real estate, and bows their necks in the RZ. If UF finds some sort od a vertical threat this game is over before half time. I don’t think that will happen though. They have not had a vertical presence all year. This will be one low scoring ugly football game.

We’re going to lose by 40 points, I just have this dread feeling. I really just wish this nightmare of a season was over.

A new coach to replace Richt is on my Christmas wish list. I hope Santa delivers.

I just keep looking at old recruiting reports. Do you realize how good this team should be?

In all honesty, how does Tech play as well as they do with players that UGA would not even put on their scrub team?

I know the ACC is weaker, but well played ball is well played ball.

Can it be anything other than coaching?

Sadly, I predict Florida 42, Georgia 10. I don’t think it will be closer than that.

We would probably be better off to lose by 50 points if it would help get a new coach, so if we lose, I hope we lose big.

I never thought I would say anything like that. :-(

“Ed” way back up at the top of this blog gave one of the few good historical synopses about ‘Bama’s “12″ national championships that I’ve read. Is there anyway the AJC could do some honest investigative sports reporting and conduct a special report on the real deal concerning national titles and the like? Maybe even look into the reasons why some schools have conflicting win/loss records vs their rivals? That’d make for some interesting reading. Say in the bleak winter months after the bowls are over.
I’d like to see more about the real story underneath a couple of those “Maxwell House Good to the Last Drop National Championships.”
