dislikes a GM who turned a 90 loss team into a playoff contender in one offseason...sounds about par for the course. way to hang 'em 10 years late Mr. Bisher. Cox should be taken to task for interfering with Wren's decisions (i.e. Francoeur) but no one at the ajc will do it, save for as much as DOB can do as the beat writter. Spineless.

Wren had and has an impossible job --- How can you possibly build a winner with your hands tied relating to having to keep Bobby Cox as manager. The only possible logical explantion for Cox being allowed to stay is that he has had a guarantee from long ago of being able to stay as long as he wanted. HOw can you build a winnin team when his blunders, management procedures and lack thereof costs game after game.

When a guy like Furman Bisher emphatically says "I had nothing to do with the story" -- I believe him.

Thanks for adding his comments!

He's out of his mind on Frank Wren. Look how he rebuilt the pitching staff in a little over a year. He absolutely stole Jurrjens from the Tigers. We'll see what he does to boost the lineup this winter.

What I was always thankful for was Furmans; what he was thankful for, every Thanksgiving day. He wrote it for years and years and if you are thankful for Furman you will with out a doubt miss his annual column Thanksgiving will never be the same. I'm just glad you are only retired and not dead. Hang in there you old fart and thanks for the memories.

Jeff, I am glad you "gave us what we wanted." But I hope you and Bradley (who still hasn't written anything four days later) realize what we really wanted was experiences and insights working with the man. Because you two did and we did not.

Hearing about the man from different perspectives is valuable.

And frankly, if you and Bradley can go anywhere close to 59 years with the AJC, then we hope the younger folks around will do the same for both of you.

I am also glad you added Furman's facts on that infamous Butts/Bryant article. I suspected that was the case, but I couldn't prove it. Even if Bisher had wrote it, all good journalists must go with the story as reported to him.

Good column, and I enjoyed reading it!
