There are at least two reasons why you are almost never going to read about the Atlanta Dream in this space: 1) I don’t care about them. 2) You don’t care about them.
An unmotivated writer and unmotivated readers make for a really bad combination, especially when you have editors looking at computer printouts and pie charts and screaming in your ears, “PAGE VIEWS PAGE VIEWS PAGE VIEWS!”
But today, I will write about the Atlanta Dream, for a few paragraphs. Why? Because they’re funny.
First let me catch you up: The Atlanta Dream is a women’s basketball team in the WNBA. I hope that’s all you need to know because I’m about tapped out.
According to the standings that I’m now looking at for the first time –it turns out the WNBA has a website and uniforms and everything — the Dream is 15-13. With six games left, they apparently have a chance to make the playoffs.
But there’s a problem. It seems the big boys are coming to town. Yes, I’m talking about, “Sesame Street Live!” Elmo has booked Philips Arena. You don’t want to get Elmo mad. And I think we know who wears the pants here.
If the Dream make the playoffs, they may not be able to play at Philips because the Muppets have booked the arena for eight shows Sept. 17-20. The team might have to move to Gwinnett, or Georgia Tech, or Georgia, or even in Knoxville, which I happen to believe is the best option, unless an auditorium is Rhode Island also is being considered.
Just so you know, I’m not a really big rules guy. But there’s one rule I’ve always followed: Don’t pay attention to any league whose home playoff games are bumped by “Sesame Street Live.”
Elmo, the floor is yours.

MrHughes – I was merely responding to you telling me what my job is. If you disagree with me, that’s fine. But I think I know my job. Thanks for reading and even disagreeing.
NumeroUnoFan – Fact, you’re right, I would lose one on one to any Dream player. That has nothing to do with my or general readership interest in the team.

Jeff it pains me to hear that your thoughts of the Atlanta Dream & WNBA are not higher. I will say that my opinion is decidedly different. I am a proud 2x season ticket holder of the Dream and will say the level of play, competition are quite high. If you are a true basketball fan and posses even a slight amount of athletic ability you will see that these ladies are talented athletes that perform on an athletic level that most writers could only dream of. Just wondering, have you actually been to a game? If not, shoot me an email and I’ll arrange something for you.
It’s always funny to see reporters (columnist) for the AJC bad talk a league/Team, while they are improving. The Irony of the situation is this, if the Dream playoff games are moved to the Gwinnett Center because of any event, it is because of a scheduling conflict, the AJC used to be 2 different papers (The Atlanta Journal & The Atlanta Constitution), now it’s just one and they will soon be out of their building in downtown Atlanta and moving headquarters to Gwinnett permanently. Wonder if you’ll have the nerve to keep their name. Guess people are tired of reading old news.
I respect your opinion and guess we should agree to disagree.

The hard truth is: Atlanta isn’t much of a sports town. Atlanta isn’t much of a basketball town.
Atlanta can barely make a profit on its NBA team even when they are competitive (as they are now). This city has no business playing home to a Women’s Pro Team…in any sport.

Interesting stream of retorts, Jeff if your Mom ever wishes to go a game at Staples next summer, we’d love to entertain her. Even better take her to Pauley Pavilion let her sit with us when LBS visits next winter. You know how to reach me. By the way, I’m going to fire you an email on Sunday , check your box. The Russian female pole vaulter set a WR of 16 ft 5 in tonight…I guess no heighting at the World was some motivation. So Jeff, did you ever go to Mt. Sac, Modesto, or the old SC-UCLA dual meet when you were a kid?

[...] Life is all about priorities, compromises and compromising priorities, which is why the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream — ever heard of ‘em? — may not be able to play at home if they make the playoffs. They’re being bumped by puppets. [...]

What a mean-spirited and pitiful attempt at humor. The only motivation I can think of for this POS column is that you feel somehow threatened by women’s professional sports. And, the only reason I can think of for that is some severe insecurity about your manhood (if you catch my drift).
You challenge the WNBA to grow their sport yet you write tripe that belittles them? Yeah, you’re not part of the problem, are you? This column reminds me why I cancelled my subscription to the AJC years ago.

This has happened to an AHL team in Bridgeport, CT. The problem is not so much the team as it is the ARENA. If I were you I would write to the league and the ARENA.
