Jeff,
Some good points. UGA should be much better this year, and injuries DID play a major role if not mentally in the lack of preparation and execution last season. I for one think UGA could very well win the SEC this year. Or at least the division. That's right, they could beat Florida. No one expected them to win two years ago either. A lot of upperclassmen on this team makes me suspicious. I saw it in 1980 as well.

GA what are you talking about? Our worst player is not better than anybody's best player.Stafford and Moreno were 1st at their positions in the draft. They played behind a subpar OL all season.Let's not get carried away with the Stacy Searles is god talk OK?He did a great job putting something decent on the field and all but our OL sucked for the most part against every good team we played. As should have been expected considering we played true freshman and other kids who were getting their 1st true playing time. That was a great job...it don't mean they played great though.Moreno and Stafford played their asses of last year.

Georgia just didn't seem to be playing as a team last year to start with. We were much more of a team when Greene and Pollack were there; last year's team seemed to be "every man for himself" (Stafford and Moreno). I have been a fan for 36 years and have season tickets, and graduated from UGA, but there is NO excuse for what the defense did, or rather did not do last year. Missed tackles, penalty after penalty, 30-40 points scored on us in game after game. Yes, the offense had some issues but the defensive play was horrendous at times. That stupid "prevent defense" does only one thing--prevent us from winning. Martinez changed nothing. He watched Alabama pile up the points and he changed nothing; same during the Nerd game. There was no excuse for that. Our worse player is better than Tech's best player. Hopefully this year we will see some changes. Otherwise, Martinez should be OUT.

The U.S. News & World Report college ratings are out today, and Georgia schools retained their rankings from last year for the most part.

I think the rankings influence where students go to college. (I also think many students are influenced by the “Colleges that Change Lives” franchise.)

Many people dismiss college status as a factor, but there’s evidence that where you go to school impacts how much you earn.

PayScale Inc., which compiles compensation data, says the median starting salary for Ivy League graduates is about 30 percent higher than that of liberal-arts college graduates. However, the study doesn’t address whether that pay differential is the result of a better education, or simply because the Ivies attract higher-achieving students in the first place. (I would also ask whether the Ivies attract better connected kids; it’s easier to end up at Goldman Sachs if your mother worked there.)

In its 2009 report, PayScale says the median starting salary for a University of Georgia graduate was $43,900, compared to $60,00 for a Harvard grad, $58,900 for a Georgia Tech grad, and $50,600 for an Emory grad.

I am sorry to report that PayScale also lists degrees that pay you back and teaching and journalism offer some of the lowest returns. The big money is in the STEM fields; science, technology, engineering and math.

Just for the record, Loran Smith to Ray Goff Coach why do you think your team lost today?" Coach Goff "Well Lauren, they scored more points than we did!" LSU and Kentucky, the Defense scored and won the game. In Alabama, Fla, and Tech. The offense scored for the other team and lost the game.

Step up the inensity on D, move the ball on offense, and see what happens. My guess is that we win more games. If the D is bad this year, I will give in and so Free Willy, but right now, let's just see how he does

I can't believe tech fans are so cocky. I have felt sorry for them the last 8 years because they are a second rate Division 1 team that will never consistently beat Georgia. Now I still think there a clemson or Wake Forest (second rate) type of team that is arrogant. Everybody knew that Tech would eventually beat UGA and that time came last year. I expect UGA to start another winning streak against them the next five years. Whats funny is that UGA has so many more bigger fish to worry about besides Tech (Florida, Auburn, Alabama, UT). Every year I feel confident about the Tech game and last year was a fluke because UGA was beat up and had a defense that DID NOT TACKLE. If Tech is lucky UGA will be banged up again, if not, they better get ready for their usual whipping.

Atlanta Truth, not only are you an expert of college football, but you're a pissy one at that! SOME people would call 1 Dawg a reasonable fan with a sense of logic.... we understand that you don't get it! Truly?! You're gonna call a fellow fan of the dawgs a pu**y?! Let me throw in classy, as well!
