Webhead, why would he waste his time in the minors? He's too old to bother with that, he is one of the best major league pitchers of all time! You dont sound like a true Braves fan to me!

People, he piched this year! He can't go into the Hall at the same time as Maddux. Nor does he deserve to!

Smoltz showed everyone what type of person he is. Boston pays him 7 million and he will not go to the minors to try and get better then come back in Sept and help them in the bullpen. What a lousy piece of work he is. Hope he never comes back to the Braves

I love Smoltz, but I like the team the way it is currently. Who would have thought that if we didn't have Smoltz or Glavine, or both this year that we would be in the thick of a pennant race? I sure didn't, and having youth in our rotation and bullpen that gotten the job done is huge. I hope he retires and he, Glavine, and Maddux can all go into the HOF at the same time. Now that would be a HOF induction worth recording and keeping.

Smoltz was and the key word is WAS one of the best pitchers ever. He didn't just mess up his last outing - he was awful with Boston. Smoltz made his choice to go to Boston and pitch for more money. The braves did not kick him out, in fact they made him an offer that was very fair for someone who was going to pitch a half of year at best. Great as they both were Smoltz and Glavine acted like cry babies when the team that had made them multi-millionaires did not give in to their demands. No matter how great they once were, both will be first round HOF, I lost a ton of respect for the way they both acted when the left. Glad they are both gone and don't think the braves need two washed up old pitchers that don't know when to retire. Shame they could not have gone out on top of their game, but big money makes people do a lot of stupid things.

THE PLAYERS ARE THE FIRST ONES TO SCREAM OUT THAT BASEBALL IS A BUSSINESS, SO SMOLTZ HAS NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT AS HE CHOSE TO LEAVE THE BRAVES FOR BUSSINESS AND THE $$$ AND TURNED HIS BACK ON THE TEAM THAT MADE HIM A MILLIONAIRE AND KEPT HIM THROUGH SOME ROUGH TIMES. NOW THE SOX ARE SAYING HE CAN'T CUT IT ANYMORE AND WILLING TO EAT SOME OF HIS SALARY TO GET RID OF HIM. HOW QUICKLY THEY FALL.

If I thought he could help the Braves, I would want him back immediately. But the truth is. I believe John is long past his prime. And with the surgery that doesn't seem to have fixed the problem, I suspect he would cost us more games than he would save. John should ride off quietly into the sunset and remember his glory days. Don't mess it up by trying to hang on and leave everyone with a bad taste in their mouths concerning his stubborn refusal to know when to quit. The same applies to Glavine. Follow Maddux into retirement and live off your millions.
