OK, I say, “Michael Vick,” and you say, what?

I haven't seen Scooby this upset since he suspected the old innkeeper for the strange hauntings at the inn. (Gary Varvel/Creator's Syndicate)

Until this cartoon, I hadn't seen Scooby so upset since he suspected the old innkeeper might be behind the strange hauntings at the inn. (Gary Varvel / Creator's Syndicate)

Loved the above cartoon. I think it was the only time I laughed from the time the first time federal investigators parachuted onto the property at 1915 Moonlight Road. Gary Varvel took a serious topic and managed to get across a viewpoint in a completely off-beat and inoffensive way.

OK. So it’s not a jury of Michael Vick’s peers. But really. Who’s going to claim Scooby Doo, Droopy Underdog and Astro are racist?

Which leads me to this week’s Tuesday Countdown.

10. Can’t we just all get along?

Wrote a column the other day on Michael Vick. Lots of reaction. Lots of reader comments. Lots of page views. These days, I think that’s supposed to be my nirvana. Wish I could tell you it’s been a great last 48 hours. I’ve spent way too much time deleting potential online comments that had been red-flagged for obscenities, etc., by blogging software. Or worse, deleting comments that weren’t red-flagged and reached the public forum for a short time. See, I made a big mistake. I trusted you.

9. Gas, meet fire.

One comment which I allowed was written by somebody named “Mrs. Schultz,” though I’m fairly certainly it’s not my wife or my mother or anybody actually named Mrs. Schultz. It began, “Jeff you created this blog knowing full well how racially divisive it would become.”

"Michael Vick ..." (The rest of the sentence could be, "went to Publix," and it would still fuel a race debate).

"Michael Vick..." (The rest of the sentence could be, "was on his way to Publix," and it would still fuel a race debate).

And yes, there’s a trace of truth to that. But there’s a difference between knowing something might happen and intending for something to happen. I didn’t want this. I certainly realize that almost anything said or written about Vick since his downfall stirs debate. I also know I could write a column about global warming, a Thrashers’ prospect from Moose Jaw or why it’s good to slightly undercook chocolate chip cookies because it keeps them soft and chewy, and that would lead to one comment, which would lead to another, which somehow would lead to, Michael Vick. (Wrote a Countdown last week criticizing the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s intention to increase its number of games in London. Somebody jumped on and called me racist.)

8. Mom? Is that you?

Back to “Mrs. Schultz’s” point. Yeah, I figured the column would stir debate. But I also was deluded into thinking that, two years after dog carcasses were found and 18 months after Vick checked into Leavenworth, there was a chance most of you were past that. And maybe most of you are. But all I know is I’ve deleted several dozen comments because too many readers – shielded behind fake names and manufactured email addresses — really kind of have a screw loose. Hey, I’m all for opinions. Strong opinions. It’s what I do. But there’s a line. There’s over 900,000 words in the English language. But some struggle to make a compelling argument without lapsing into the same ugly few and invariable spark a race war. Black labs and white lbs get along. They’re the same species. Maybe it’s because the words they comprehend are “No!”, “Bad!” and “Did you take my sandwich?

7. Here’s hoping for rehabilitation — for everybody

OK. Last point. I sincerely hope Michael Vick rehabilitates himself. I don’t care if he ever throws another football. Rehabilitation for me is learning a lesson, living his life and raising his children. There’s a chance I’ll write more columns on Vick when news warrants it. But I’m about to shut down the comments section on Monday’s column because I’m tired of babysitting and I’m honestly considering not allowing comments on future Vick columns. To most of you: Thanks for keeping it real and above the line. To the rest of you: I only hope you grow up.

6. OK, it’s a really bad day, but …

Wonder if Jack owns a dog? And who feeds it when he's saving the world?

Wonder what kind of dog Jack would own?

So I was thinking last night after the season-ending episode of “24.” Jack Bauer really only has one bad a year. I mean, who among us wouldn’t be happy with one bad day a year. (Sorry. I needed to break this up before I jumped back into another potential racially sensitive topic.)

5. If you pay me this much, I’ll love you

(OK. One more intermission.) Love the news about Jon Gruden jumping into the ESPN booth for Monday Night Football. Question: Just wondering how that job interview went. Did his past comments about various stories on ESPN in 2007 ever come up. Example 1: “I don’t watch ESPN. I don’t believe half the [expletive] people on the channel, personally – no disrespect.” Example 2: “There’s a lot of reports out there. I just wish some of these reports were verified. [Chris Mortensen] doesn’t have a [expletive] idea what he’s talking about.” Way to stick to your guns, big guy.

4. Does this look like a “minority” golf team?

This is a minority golf team. Honest.

Tennessee State's five-man (four-white) team won the HBCU title.

OK. Here we go again. See this picture? It’s a team shot of the Tennessee State golf team, which just won the PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship. Yes, “Minority.” The only problem with this is while TSU is an historically black university (HBCU), it’s golf team is historically white. The team that just won the championship has four white players, one black. Actually, that’s progress.  The same school won the title in 2005 — and that team was ALL white. Anything wrong with this picture?

Just felt like throwing in a picture of two pioneers: golf legends Lee Elder (left) and Calvin Peete.

Just felt like throwing in a picture of two pioneers: golf legends Lee Elder (left) and Calvin Peete.

3. What’s in a name?

I phoned the school’s coach, Charles “Chip” Taylor. He is white. He said he understands why people would have an issue with this. But he said most golf teams at HBCUs are predominantly white out of necessity. There simply aren’t enough black collegians playing golf yet and most of the best ones attend major universities. So HBCUs are forced to recruit whites in the U.S. and Europe to fill out their rosters. That’s understandable, to a degree. But come on. Can’t organizers at least change the name of the tournament to PGA “HBCU” Championship instead of “PGA Minority”? That would be a more accurate reflection, since it would reference schools, not race. “I understand the question,” Taylor said. “But I’m a 100 percent believer in HBCUs because that’s our heritage and that’s our tradition. They’ll always be around. No, it might not be 100 percent minorities. But they’ll will always have a place in our country.” The lines between HBCU’s have blurred in recent years. More African Americans attend non-historically black colleges. Also, economics have led to changing demographics on campuses like Tennessee State and Morehouse. (Translation: More whites are being recruited and/or finding an HBCU a viable option.) But Taylor thinks this number of black golfers will increase. “I see a huge number of minority golfers in the sixth to eighth grades, and once they get into high school they’ll be recruited.” Then, no more double takes.

2. MeAngelo strikes again

Here's a picture of DeAngelo Hall, walking alone. Seems appropriate

Here's a picture of DeAngelo Hall walking alone. It seemed appropriate.

DeAngelo Hall, who knows how to make money but can’t seem to recall how to make an interception, took several shots at the Oakland Raiders and owner Al Davis the other day. Now, he might’ve been accurate with almost everything he said. But the fact the comments come from arguably the most selfish player in the NFL, the words rang hollow. Especially these ”Oh, it’s a weight off my shoulders [being gone from there], just that whole situation out there and the way they did things. I’m not knocking it, but it wasn’t what I was accustomed to, what I was used to, and I just started just not caring like a bunch of other guys, you know? It kind of rubs off on you.” Dude, you are not the rub-ee. You are the rub-er.

1. Just checked

A recent comment on the Vick blog: “LET YO HATERS BE YO MOTIVATORS, MIKE!” Hey, see that? It’s clean. It rhymes. It’s even brief enough for Twitter. That wasn’t so hard.

Jeff — ‘Mrs. Schultz’ (who actually did come over with her sister last night, surprising me greatly) is definitely gonna hammer you on TSU thing.

In closing, I know it wouldn’t make much sense medically — but if I’m Jack Bauer, I’d rather have me some of Agent Renee Walker’s yummy stem cells than Kim’s.

The Falcons will suck in 2009, 4-12 will be their record. 2008 was a fluke, if you believe your team is on the right track then you must believe they will make the play-off in 2009 and at least match their win total from 2008 even though they have the 4th toughest schedule in the NFL.

Nothing new on the TSU Golf team. If you look at the baseball squads of some of the HBCU teams it is loaded with White Players. This is actually a good thing and people can no longer think that HBCU’s are only for Black people.

From your comments about not knowing what to expect, I infer that you haven’t been reading many of the Falcons blogs for the last year.

Why would you guess that?
There are fringe loonies on both sides of the fence (Vick supporters and detractors), taking fulla dvantage of the anonimity of the interent and who dont care or don’t know enough to peruse Websters or the Bible to support their claims for his reconciliation or condemnation.
I do realize that he is news in ATL but the tenacity and ubiquitousness of the stories/articles that the AJC has on him does seem a bit fanatical (stalker-ish) or at least, tabloid-ish.

I hope he does well for himself to reconcile his life and career.

Great job, Mr. Schultz…I always look forward to the countdown and I sincerely enjoy your dry sense of humor (I’m a deadpan guy myself).

What I don’t like about the Kornheiser thing is that he chose to leave. Nobody liked listening to him…I think it’s pretty much universal. But ESPN was content with keeping him on. And that’s a huge problem (well, maybe more of an inconvenience or annoyance than a problem) today; boring, annoying, and/or confused announcers on TV (Tim McCarver, Joe Buck, and Chip Caray to name a few). They bother us, we complain, and they stay. I want funny people…people with personality who know about the sport. Where are the Skips?

-Mike Smith takes a nap
-Roddy White switches toothpastes
-Jamal Anderson holds a clinic for kids on how to avoid the quarterback
-Former Falcons QB is about to be released from prison after nearly 2 years. There’s still a huge question on his future in the NFL

Maybe Michael Vick will now have the best opportunity in his life to get some wise advice, including being mentored a bit by Coach Dungy, Coach Edwards, etc. (Maybe even Coach Smith!) I’ll bet he has matured a whole bunch in the past two years. I think we can be hopeful that he’ll be fine, and come out of this a stronger, smarter person. I suspect he’s going to convince Goodell of his remorse and sincerity, and play again, in the NFL, which, given his talent, would be a good thing for the NFL, for Vick, and for us.

I’d be in favor of always having the comments closed or at least having a lot of them deleted. What’s the point of reading variations on these again and again:
“The coach/GM/owner/player/writer is an idiot and should be fired.”
“The previous poster is an idiot.”
“This word is misspelled. You should be fired, idiot.”
“This team sucks and you all suck. The ajc sucks and the stories are terrible. Everything is bad.”

It’s tiring and worthless to read that. It’s nice to have opposing viewpoints to the columnists and bloggers, but there is only a small number of people able to write something worthwile and coherent.

One of the interesting things about the changes in communication is that most of the media has come to think that things like facebook, blogs, forums/message boards, twitter, etc. need to be incorporated into the news for the industry to survive. However, the ability of any person to publish their thoughts has no correlation with the value of their message.

Frankly, I think even if it only cost $5 or something, having to register would help that issue immensely.

Regarding Kornheiser (sp?), did it not strike you as odd that he suddenly fears flying? As much as I like him on PTI, he was TERRRIBLE on MNF and needed to be fired from the spot, but I was rather surprised he pulled a “Madden”. Sounds like a company line to me . . .

Hey Jimmy – and if Mike Vick had cooperated with local officials in the first place instead of listening to his “close friends”, he likely would have gotten the same thing. From what I read, it was only after he repeatedly lied to every team and law official that the Feds got involved. If he wants to recomp some of his losses, he ought to sue his own lawyer!

I made it easy for you Mr. Shultz, It’s a done deal. Any team should be able to stumble to 4-12. At least you are brave enough to take the bet, most Falcon fans on these blogs will not give an honest prediction on what their team will do. They love to talk the talk and bring up last year, well it’s a whole new year boys and girls, now walk the walk. If you are truly a Falcon fan don’t jump off the bandwagon when the going gets tough,4-12, yep, I said it.

To Reality check GT and all the other bandwagon fans, 1 season does not make a career. Lets see you man Matt Ryan do it in consecutive seasons, don’t forget how bad he looked the last 3 games of the regular season and that play-off game, now don’t make excuses for him when things get tough, if he is as great as you all claim, your team should win at least 11 games and win the NFC South.

I heard some interesting stats on sports talk radio. MV7 career passer rating is better than Joe Nammath, John Elway, Ron Jarowski and a few other Hall Of Fame QBs, interesting facts I say for a guy that in 6 seasons went to 3 pro bowls and lead his team to the NFC Championship game. But, some say he failed as a QB, no, he failed himself and his family by his mistakes but don’t discount the man’s ability to play football. And you all love Jay Cutler but his career winning percentage stinks. Just a few facts that make you wanna say “HMMMMMMM”.

Big-Ups to TSu and there title,

Public service announcement, to all poor white kids, do research on your chances at getting an academic scholarship to a HBCU, back when I was young, it use to be that those colleges offered scholarships to white kids to attend to attract more white kids, the same way UGA and Auburn and other predominately white schools offered scholarships to minority students, diversity is a beautiful thing. We can learn a lot from the young ones on how to get along, for the most part they get along very well.

A real fan supports the team first and the players second. Like I’ve said before, if Matt Ryan stinks it up, go and get the Falcons another QB,it’s that simple. I could careless who the QB is as long as the team wins. With what the owner, GM ,and coaches are doing, we will see more wins very soon. 11-5 again.

eplayerj, come on man you can do better than that, why do you think they will have a losing season? Yes the defense is young, I think the biggest lost you all suffered was losing Foxworth, At 5 or 6 mil per for a near shut down corner is a steal. He played lights out for you last season when they finally put him in the game. But at least you made an honest prediction. When I use to be a Falcon fan in 98 I predicted them to go to the play-offs before the season started, as the season went on, I told a supervisor of mine that if they beat SF in the dome they would run the table and win the rest of their games only other team I thought had a chance of beating them was Miami last game of the season but, that game was played n the Dome, true story, SF was very good but the Falcons had their chances against them in SF earlier that season, well you know the rest is history. If you think last season was not a fluke then you should like your teams chances against anyone they play. Many on these blogs blamed those vets that the Falcons let go on the the team losing games so they should have improved in those areas. I think last season was a fluke and the Falcons will suck. But, as they say, that is why they play the games. Also, if the Falcons go 8-8 or 9-7 against that schedule they will be a threat to win it all the following season. As you said their defense is young and if they are competitive record wise this year not like Detroit of 2007 going 6-2 the first half of the season then 1-7 the last half of the season. I mean a decent consistent 8-8 or 9-7 season, then I will say watch out for the Falcons for 2010.

Here we go again

Terrell,

In case you didn’t get a chance to read Mr. Schultz’s article, he wrote, “Black labs and white lbs get along. They’re the same species. Maybe it’s because the words they comprehend are “No!”, “Bad!” and “Did you take my sandwich?” Let me ammend something first, “lbs” does not mean “pounds,” it is a simple error from slackidasical spell-checking before going ‘to print’, and should be read as “labs.”

The point was fairly deep, and perhaps an explanation would fly well over your head. But, considering Mr. Vick was convicted for fighting dogs, which presumably were white, black, brown, spotted, and all colors in between, that presumes all dogs, although of the same species, actually do not always get along together well. That especially applies to dogs who are trained to hate other dogs, enough to kill them at the cost of losing an ear or worse, while stupid humans laugh and bet money on who wins. It all boils down to the individual dog standing up for himself and what that dog thinks is right. Dogs like that were termed “under-performing” by Mr. Vick. Those under-performing dogs were strangled by cords twisted around their necks, by Mr. Vick. Still, sometimes its better for a dog to run away, get caught by the pound, and hope to have a nice family of human beings take one to raise. Remember, dogs are born into slavery everyday – bred to be sold or given away, some to massahs that beat them and make them resent everything about humans and other dogs. Mr. Vick loved the slave dog breed named the Pit Bulldog. Unfortunately, dogs are considered man’s best friend, where it actually is best stated as dog’s best friend is man, because dog can find the easy life with man. Just depends on the man, whereas Mr. Vick is not like all humans, so man cannot be condemned because people like Mr. Vick live. Without man, dog falls into the wild pack mentality, and it is that wild pack mentality that gives dogs a bad name.

Hope that cleared things up for you; but be careful … letting others always do the thinnin and splainin for you is a sign of weakness.

Please AJC, is there not any community work, foundation or something that Mr. Ryan is working on in the off-season to help those disadvantaged youth here in Atlanta? Is he volunteering with any charities? What? How’s he giving back? What’s his charity of choice?

Tell me a company that puts a 7 on your suit and pays you 1 mill for closing deals every day while your competition is trying to clothes line you in the lobby. All while the office secretaries cheer loudly and call you names.

Ok, then you get fired for getting tile-toe or your boss yells at you in front of the entire company for fumbling the proposal. “Give me 50 push-ups for arriving late” Be careful, cause you may walk in the office tomorrow and see the depth chart showing Johnny as the starting engineer. Oops, a reporter calls your momma to ask how you feel about getting traded from the ATL to Greenbay. Sorry, you’re 30 yrs old, so we hired the 22 yr old UGA grad to replace you. I know u got cut him or trade him. But if you could remain on the roster. Don’t play him. Just for video game purposes. That would be a sick video game football team. Wildcat, kick returner. It would be the most prolific offensive juggernaut team of all time. And I wish would we could all kiss and make up. But, sometimes you got to start over. Good Luck Vick. U need to learn to tip better. I would take up Cock fighting. I think losing $130 million for $40000 was not a good investment. Jeff, I agree wholeheartedly on the “minority” moniker. Since golf is not traditionally the preferred sport in the black community, they are right to recruit whomever they can. If white players are comfortable attending a traditionally black school, more power to them. If we as a nation are ever to move beyond the racial divide, we absolutely must have more intergration of the races in a non-threatening environment where intelligent people can interact and communicate (unlike some of the doofusses in this blog).

Keep up the good work and don’t let said doofusses discourage you.

With just a few hours left in Michael Vick’s time in confinement, this writer says clearly and succinctly, “Give Mike Vick a damn break.”

Let me start by saying this: Dogfighting is a terrible and atrocious thing.

The fact that there are still people that train and raise dogs, chickens, and other animals for the sole purpose of having them fight for entertainment is a shocking proposition.

I make no excuses for what Vick did and would not excuse him if he continued to engage in dogfighting.

But are animal lives more valuable than human lives?

Many animal rights groups like the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals have called for Vick to be banned for life from the NFL.

Radio call-in shows are blown up with fans who say what a disgrace he is and how he should not be allowed to make a living playing quarterback.

Where is their outrage on cases that involve the loss of human life?

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth allegedly became intoxicated, put himself behind the wheel of a car, and killed someone. He is now looking at facing a lengthy prison sentence for those actions.

However, the peanut gallery has remained mostly silent.

New Orleans Saints defensive end Charles Grant is charged in a Georgia court for involuntary manslaughter. Grant was involved in a fight in a south Georgia bar and someone (a person!) lost her life. An actual person!

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis was a co-defendant in a 2000 murder case from the Buckhead bar district in Atlanta.

Although Lewis was cleared of the charges, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor. There is no doubt; however, that he participated somehow in an event that led to the loss of a person’s life.

On all these three men, the outrage has never been so great as it has been against Vick.

Do we, as a society, value dogs more than humans? Is it that dogs have a stronger lobby than people? Do we need a People for the Ethical Treatment of Humans?

Vick has done his time. He spent two years in prison during what should have been the prime of his Pro Bowl career.

If you find yourself outraged that Vick will once again play in the NFL, ask yourself: Where is the outrage about Stallworth? Grant? Lewis?

If we can forgive these men who allegedly or actually participated in the death of a person, can’t we forgive Michael Vick?

Let’s deal with America’s reality! Michael Vick is being scurtinized this hard, and profiled like this simply from the fact of being a Black Man at the most glamous position in all of pro sports. I know bloggers are going to disagree, but was Kyle Turley looked at in such a negative way when he chocked a dog to death while in the NFL? Mark McGuire, Jason Giambi, Andy Reid, Patrick Kerney, and the Hockey player that killed his friend in ATL a couple of years ago, these incidents have been swept under the rug. Why America do you continue to scrutinize Blacks in America at such a high level? For years the number 714 was said to be the number in baseball, years after Aaron had broke it by 16 more. Michael Vick deserves another chance in society like any other human being. Most will say he had it all, but you must understand it wasn’t given, he earned it, and like most young men with money, black or white he made a mistake. God bless him in his return, and lets hope he learned from his mistakes. Also if you want us to be treated as equals, I’m an American, not African-American. When you learn what equlity is about then we as black people in America won’t complain!

Who cares what color these players are??? You seem to. These young men and women deserve the same opportunities as anyone else. These schools play against the best teams in the country. Look at the schedules these teams play! Many of these student/athletes fell through the cracks in high school. They are good enough to play at bigger schools, but for whatever reason, they were not offered scholarships. I think I’m going to boycott watching ESPN the next two years with their incessant need to cover Brett Favre and Michael Vick regardless if they are playing or not.

As for DeAngelo Hall, I’m so glad that guy is out of Atlanta. You know at some point guys like Hall just need to shut the hell up and play, in fact if he does that I will almost gurantee that he’ll play better. Hall tries to pattern himself after Deion Sanders( which isn’t a good thing). But he’s nowhere near Deion in ability. And Hall will never play for a great team until he can put in the work and shut the hell up, because teams like the Patriots, Colts, and Steelers don’t put up with that kind of mercenary mentality. Look at Randy Moss. He was a horses ass in Minnesota( sometimes for good reason), but once he got to the Patriots, he shut up and played. And he’s had two of the best seasons of his career the last two season. T.O. and Hall need to follow Moss’s example.

Michael Vick was a model prisoner while at Leavenworth. He was my cellmate/downlow lover.I didn’t see his face much- he was face down in the pillow most of the time.Let’s just say he is NOT a tight end.
But, we do what we must in prison…Michael did get really good at oral though…I miss you ,baby cakes. I am hoping for a comeback- Michael, you know you want to be my bit ch again- come back!!!!

Ryanreally: Vick was polarizing before dog-fighting. Dog-fighting didn’t make him polarizing. And the media didn’t make him polarizing. A subject is either polarizing or it isn’t

YEAH, I AGREE.
ON THAT YOU ARE RIGHT SCHULTZ!

THE SOUTHERN BUBBA ASSOCIATION IS NOT GOING TO ALLOW A BLACK MAN TO QB THIS TEAM.

THE POLARIZATION WAS CLEARLY RACIALLY DRAWN. THIS WAS LONG BEFORE PETA.THE SOUTHERN DIVISION OF THE GRAND KNIGHTS OF THE BUBBA POSSE WAS NOT GOING TO HAVE A BLACK MAN QB-ING IN A RED STATE.

THE REASON THIS CONTINUES TO BE AN ISSUE TODAY IS BECAUSE THE PRESS CAN FEED OFF THE RACIAL HATE ASPECT. THATS WHY THE HATE SPEWING AJC HAS GIVING CHARGE TO THE GRAND BUBBA(JEFF SCHULTZ)AND HIS DITTO HEAD AUTHOR BLANK TO CHOOSE RACIAL SIDES WITH THE BUBBA POSSE.

INSTEAD OF STAYING WITH VICK AS 98% OF BLACKS WANT HIM TO HES GOING WTIH THE LOUDEST 45 PERCENT OF THE WHITE PEOPLE ALSO KNOW AS THE BUBBA HATE CLUB, WHO WANT THE MAN DEAD. THEN THIER HATRED WILL BE QUENCHED…RIGHT SCHULTZ?

PETA THE RADICAL GROUP IS ONLY REVELANT BECAUSE OF THE PRESS. WHAT ABOUT THE HUMANS SOCIETY’S CORRECT STANCE IN GIVING VICK A CHANCE TO GROW AND CHANGE? GOOD JOB HUMAN SOCIETY. IF ONLY BLANK HAD AS MUCH CLASS!

Yes the rocket is in denial,

as was Vick until evidence overwhelmed him. Denial is a very human behavior. I don’t care for how baseball has dealt with A-rod who made a confession to what he knew they had evidence of.
I don’t care for lance Armstrong or that pot smoking bong wielding swimmer Phelps that we look the other way on.

I also love Mrs. Marion who was the only one of the athletes to show true remorse to the point of tears and confessions and yet was given prison for lying about steroids use. There is certainly two rules at play here.

No, Michaels persecution was a result of being a super black athlete/quarterback in a bubba red state, otherwise he d still be playing after a short suspension, like A-Rod or competing like the pot head bong wielding Phelps.

I understand you have a problem accepting this. That’s why I can appreciate whites who can accept the reality of racism. To deal with truth is to bring about healing, to deny as you are doing, only perpetuates the problem.

That’s why you think there are more Vick fans than Falcon fans. It’s not. It’s not that Vick was righteous, he was not. It’s the issue of righteous judgment, or rather the lack thereof that causes people to rally around Vick. Never throw out the baby with the bath water, as the falcons are doing.

Vick is still loved in black America, regardless of your crucifixion. Not because he was right. He wasn’t he was wrong, but because he suffered as a result of racism that many blacks can identify with. \ So the issue goes on.

Vicktory to the Underdog
http://strangleholdmerch.com/vicktory-to-the-underdog-p-191.html

“Vicktory To The Underdog” takes an in depth look at world renowned tattoo artist “Brandon Bond” and his dog rescue efforts – particularly rescuing the infamous Michael Vick fighting dogs.
Rather than focusing on the dog fighting problem, the movie sheds light on solutions leading to “Vicktory” for all the underdogs in the movie – tattoo people, pitbulls, parolees and all the other people in this world that society has turned their back on through ignorance and racism.
The movie also examines the life of Brandon Bond and his struggle with balancing fame, fortune and the Rock-N-Roll tattoo lifestyle with a more fulfilling life that focuses on the betterment of both animals and society as a whole.
Featuring celebrities like Debbie and Danny Trejo, Michael Berryman, Pixie Acia and Donal Logue, the movie takes you on an incredible journey you will never forget!

Proceeds for this film will be going to Villa Lobos Pitbull Rescue. http://www.vrcpitbull.com

Note to truth-serum: Get off your race card kick. Vick is detested because he’s a brutal thug who took pleasure in causing pain to animals, and also because when confronted with the charges, HE LIED!

Hey, VS2, Vick wouldn’t come back to this loser franchise? Of course not, Mr Blank has said 4 or 5 times that he DIDN’T WANT HIM BACK. No great loss. I watched him and cheered him on because I thought he was a good role model. We all know how THAT turned out.
If the NFL is the type of organization that allows him to return, the NFL will never again enter my home. End of story.

Figured it out. Jeff’s is a sports column, so the abortion issue isn’t on the page or posted by sports columnists. You might read about abortion on the editorial page, or news page, where it is written about quite often. In the unlikely event that a female athlete was considering having, or had complications following an abortion, you would read about it on the sports page.

Amazing as it may seem, one of the basics of designing a newspaper/website is to separate things by sections. Hence, Jeff’s columns are on the sports page’s of the AJC.

While Jeff’s columns always include humor and some references to legal matters (ie; Michael Vick’s arrest, conviction, release and life as a conviction felon), his copy on the subject is based on the fact that Michael Vick was a highly-regarded NFL quarterback. As you might remember, there have been similar columns written about the gambling problems of Pete Rose, untold athletes and their problems use of steroids, and other encounters with the law. Again, the stories wouldn’t have appeared on the sports pages unless the persons mentioned were athletes.

Thank you for participating in my special presentation of Sports Journalism 301.

……..Jeff, write the columns….Write what you feel…..Leave the blogs open…..We can learn something by looking at both, the stupid and the intelligent….(If we pay attention)……It shows us where we are, this day in history………
