Friend of mine was at the Georgia Tech baseball game today and told me he saw “15-20” kids in LeBron James jerseys. I walked through CNN Center and found vendors selling more jerseys and “LBJ MVP” T-shirts.
And now this: It seems Mr. James is having a little party in Midtown tonight.
Wow. Hope he can fit the game in.
Now, I realize the Cleveland Cavaliers have had their way with the Hawks in the first two games of this series. And I’m not suggesting that LeBron James making social plans in the middle of a playoff series could be just the thing to propel your Hawks to a victory tonight and four wins in the next five games.
But doesn’t this strike you as a little odd?
I mean, how would Cleveland take it if, say, Josh Smith was planning a party for after Game 5?
On second thought, bad example.
Chris Blackburn, the manager at the Trois restaurant and bar in Midtown, both confirmed and joked that there’s a gathering at 10 o’clock tonight “for LeBron and 800 of his closest friends.”
Then he issued this slight disclaimer: “This isn’t really a party he’s throwing, but he will be in attendance. He just wanted a place to hang out. I think his agent contacted a local promoter who we’ve done business with in the past. He [the promoter] in turn asked if he could do a large event, with LeBron being the draw.”
Blackburn said there are signs posted in Trois informing patrons that the place will close early for a private function. He would not say how much it cost to rent the restaurant. But he said the promoter is paying for it, not James. He also said James will be seated in a VIP area, which is limited to 70 people.
Tickets will be sold to the public. If you go, be sure to get a few postgame quotes for the AJC and e-mail them to me.
I kind of get the feeling LeBron will be in a hurry to get out of the arena.
If I can get a comment from King James before the game, I’ll post it here.
Until then, what do you think?
UPDATE FROM THE PARTY KING! James met with the media for a few minutes (literally) just now and had his game face on. When told word of his post-game plans at Trois already have circulated through the city, he said: “I’ve got game plans right now and I’m very focused on Game 3. I’ll worry about it after the game.
I did not ask if I could get on the VIP list, with a “Plus 1.”
For what it’s worth, James has had these post-game and off-day parties in other cities before in New York, Washington, Miami and Toronto.
LeBRON VS. URLACHER: Can you imagine that collision? It almost happened. If you watched Game 2, you saw James chase a loose ball and leap over Chicago linebacker Brian Urlacher, who was seated court side near the Cavaliers’ bench.
”You see him? He didn’t even move,” James said. “Thank God he didn’t try to tackle me. Ooooh. Good he didn’t think I was a running back jumping over the pile.” The two officially met for the first time after the game, and James gave Urlacher his shoes.

Where’s the defense? Every time i see Josh Smith he is trying to slam or shoot a jumper. He’s hot headed. It’s time for Josh to go.

Yep, lebron travels on every possession. He does. Cav’s offense sucked tonight. Yet, 15pt win. Hmmmm.
BTW, if the Hawks go up for sale, I’ll offer $4 and a case of Schlitz, maybe even 2 case.

Some people will think i am crazy. Cavs no. Lakers no. Your champion will be the Denver Nuggets. Billups will be the factor. Hawks keep dreaming. Hawks are fakers. How can you be champion if you can’t win on the road. Hawks you are sorry suckers. They only played the entire season to win home court for the first round. That’s sorry.

Thanks Cuz for the help. Appreciate it. This game reminded me of a cat eating a mouse and the cat licking his lips like it was the best piece of steak he ever had! I ask the Hawks fan, will this be a SWEEP on Monday? Talk to me.

just d**n, ken j, sweetest thing anyone has said to me all month. No one on the Hawks could
guard my jockstrap, as small as it is. The only question left is do the Cav’s win by 40 on Monday?
By the way, I don’t suck, nor swallow, but thanks for the imposition.

Woodson had his shot…….Bibby and Smith are bullshotting. Bibby can’t even find his arms while playing D. JSmith will be okay with a new coach, JJohnson is trying, but has no help. Granted, we are injured……..Marvin shooting as of his injury is ridiculous. I like Horfords tenacity….from what he’s able to give. Bottom line, the refs and their awful calls put our backs against the wall, in our own building, and we couldn’t do anything after that. I expected more from our boys, but it never came. New coach (Avery) new attitude. Period. ATL Fans, start showing up, or we will have home court/field/ice disadvantage for every home game. Wake up

How many times was Atlanta was featured on ABC this season. I wonder. The only reasons they was on ABC tonight was because of Lebron and it was the only NBA game on tonight. It was a showcase for Lebron. Atlanta is a average team.

Mike, in the blog age a sportswriter has to throw out something to make people sit up and notice; then get them to respond. The old days of just reporting the game are over. You need a needle. Stick it in and they will respond. Jeff shoved in the needle. You responded.

I say trade Josh Smith and Joe johnson. Josh Smith never hustles and plays with any passion unless he’s dunking. Did you see him not rebounding, not contesting shots and not running down the court time after time. And Joe thinks he can be like Lebron. Sorry but he’s not. He actually needs his teammates to be successful. I can see why they’re griping. Nobody is playing team basketball and no gets rebounds and goes after loose balls. Josh didn’t even try one time down under the goal until he saw no one else gonna go down after the ball. Everybody on the team keeps waiting on the other guy to do the dirty work. Woodson should be fired, although I like the guy, but thse guys don’t do what they are told. When the game started to unravel I was screaming at the tv to yank those guys because they acted like they didn’t even want to be there. Put me in some guys that are hungry and will give a 110% please!

Guys, I’m something of a Cav’s fan. Been a tribe/cavs/browns fan for some time. That said, I am losing nearly all respect for sports figures, but I don’t know if anyone stops lebron this year. This guy is ramping up and is stinking sick. Two years ago he nearly beat the Pistons…. by himself. He is going to do something like that again. Jordan to me, is still on top, but this kid is getting damn close. That, in & of itself should scare a lot of teams. Oh, and he’s not even 25. IF (and a big IF) that team goes 12-0 to the finals, I feel sorry for whoever they play.
