I lost a close, longtime friend last fall, and this week some of us who knew the man best are gathering from around the country for the first time since he left us so suddenly. We’ve told stories, laughed a lot and handled a few moments of sadness. It’s all good, as they say.
The experience brought this cut to mind, recorded by friends of George Harrison a year after his passing. The guitarist looking uncannily like a young George is his son Dhani, who at the time of the video was probably around 24. All things must pass.

Interesting side note to Clapton’s guitars……. in a recent auction of famous guitars, Clapton had 4 of the top ten, the most expensive, a Fender stratocaster, brought close to 900K. I might ask all of you music buffs out there….. what was the guitar that brought the most money and who was the original owner?

One of the most beautiful pieces of poetry in the English language to me. I’m telling my age here, but one of the stations in Jackson signed off (remember THAT) with High Flight…
And I”VE danced with a Cherokee, too. Still do on occasion, sometimes even standing up!

“1) Reach out to Asia Fender Stratocaster:
Sold for $2.7 million
In 2005, this guitar was sold in an auction in Qatar to raise funds for Reach Out to Asia, a charity formed to help tsunami victims. The instrument is signed by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Brian May, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Jeff Beck, Pete Townsend, Mark Knopfler, Ray Davis, Liam Gallagher, Ronnie Wood, Tony Iommi, Angus and Malcolm Young, Paul McCartney, Sting, Ritchie Blackmore, Def Leppard and Bryan Adams .”
I thought it was Jimi Hendrix guitar but it was second.

Breaking Through: Innovative Solutions to End Violence Against Women
March 9th, 2013
8:00 am
This week in New York, the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women is convening global delegates for its annual meeting. The priority this year? The prevention and elimination of all forms of violence against women. Executive director of U.N. Women Michelle Bachelet has flatly declared: “Enough is enough.”
The world is watching. How are we going to address violence effectively, sustainably, and in a way that preserves freedom and returns stolen dignity to the women and girls of the world?
We need to look outside the box. Far outside. The real solutions lie on the periphery, in creative minds and unusual alliances.
Because when it comes to violence against women, there is no “typical” victim; the risk factor is simply being born female. There is no generation, race, culture, or socioeconomic group whose women and girls are immune to violence in its many forms: domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and harmful traditional practices. One of the most widespread violations of human rights, violence against women will directly impact one in three women living today, according to United Nations estimates.

A lot of things, none of them good, are happening in our world.
Global warming is steadly increasing and will get worse and worse in the years to come.
The human population is steadly increasing with no end in sight.
Clean water, something most of us take for granted, will get increasingly scarce in the years to come.
Germs and viruses are becomming increasingly immune to our antibiotics and antiviral drugs.
A combination of all the above means food will become increasingly scarce in the years to come causing mass migrations from country to country. This will cause massive social upheavels in many countries including, possibly, the US.
In light of all this, violence against women will be the least of our worries sooner than we think.

Indido,
One thing I have learned in my 66 years is that we, as individuals, can control very little of what is going on in the world, and I refuse to worry about that. I will, and have, quietly done my part to help, small that that may be, but mankind seems to have a short sighted suicidal gene embedded in it’s DNA. I agree that the Dark Ages will be upon us in a 100 years, and the survivors will have to remember or repeat. Where is the Great Spirit when you need him, huh?
And another thought, of all of the seven deadly sins, Greed is the worst. It blinds one to everything else that is happening. There are clues out there. Mother Earth IS warning us, but, as they say, “there are none so blind that will not see”.
