Last summer, Jeb Bush was in favor of offering illegal immigrants a path to citizenship. As he told Charlie Rose:
“You have to deal with this issue. You can’t ignore it, and so either a path to citizenship, which I would support — and that does put me probably out of the mainstream of most conservatives — or a path to legalization, a path to residency of some kind.”
In his new book, “Immigration Wars: Forging an American Solution”, Bush comes out in stalwart opposition to citizenship.
“It is absolutely vital to the integrity of our immigration system that actions have consequences — in this case, that those who violated the law can remain but cannot obtain the cherished fruits of citizenship. To do otherwise would signal once again that people who circumvent the system can still obtain the full benefits of American citizenship.”
Today on “Morning Joe”, Bush was back to his initial position. Kind of … He repeatedly stressed that the book was written last year, as if something had happened recently to alter what in the book seems to be a strong, principle-based opposition to a path to citizenship. He also argued that a path to legalization would not create a magnet for future illegal immigration, while a path to citizenship somehow would.
“If you don’t have a difference between a path to citizenship or a path to legalization, you’re going to create a magnet going forward for more illegal immigration. So going forward — we wrote this last year — going forward, if there is a difference, if you can craft that in law where you can have a path to citizenship where there isn’t an incentive for people to come illegally, I’m for it. I don’t have a problem with that.”
A couple of points:
1.) The Bush flip-flop-flip has angered veterans of Mitt Romney’s campaign, which last year felt stranded on unpopular ground with the candidate’s “self-deportation” approach.
“Where the hell was this Jeb Bush during the campaign?” one advisor told the Miami Herald. “He spent all this time criticizing Romney and it turns out he has basically the same position. So he wants people to go back to their country and apply for citizenship? Well, that’s self deportation. We got creamed for talking about that. And now Jeb is saying the same thing.”
2.) The distinction that Bush attempts to draw between legalization and citizenship in fact has little real consequence. Those who have immigrated here illegally were drawn by jobs, the chance to escape Third World living conditions or greater opportunity for their children. Getting U.S. citizenship was way, way down on their list. A nice possibility, maybe, but hardly a deciding factor.
The notion that a path to legalization would be a less powerful magnet than a path to citizenship makes no sense, and Bush is smart enough to know it. But when you’re caught tacking to the right when the political winds are blowing left, and when you have ambitions of becoming the third consecutive Republican president named Bush, you have to scramble a bit.

For those astute among you, this is a time to quietly sell into strength and buy into weakness.
If you are long stocks, don’t wait too long. (Think housing market, 2006.) You may not be able to unwind your positions without significant losses. There may never be another opportunity like this to buy gold.
The stock market is defying gravity with Fed cash, while gold is shorted like crazy by the “big houses.” You’ll thank me later.

$7K cash found at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (AJC)
ATLANTA —
Pamela North Hollowaay said she found an envelope full of cash along the curb outside the Park & Ride deck at the International Terminal where she works part time at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
“I showed the money to the [shuttle] driver then I went right inside and turned it in right away,” North Hollowaay told Channel 2’s Shae Rozzi.
She said she watched as her supervisor counted the money and contacted the Atlanta Police Department’s airport precinct to pick it up.

A school district is attempting to force teachers to pay union dues for the next 10 years, despite being located in Michigan, which is now a right-to-work state that specifically prohibits mandatory unionization.
Michigan became the 24th right-to-work state in December. But the law doesn’t take effect until March 28 — giving unions time to grandfather in their contracts if they can get them approved before the deadline. As part of this effort, the Taylor School District approved an entirely separate “union security agreement” that will force teachers to keep paying the union until 2023.
Under the security agreement, teachers’ only options will be to pay union dues, or pay an agency fee amounting to about $800 a year.

Holder: Drone strike against Americans in the U.S. possible
Attorney General Eric Holder Tuesday stopped short of entirely ruling out a drone strike against an American citizen on U.S. soil—without trial.
Holder’s comment came in a letter to Sen. Rand Paul. Paul had sent a letter to President Obama’s CIA director nominee John Brennan asking for the administration’s views on the president’s power to authorize lethal force.
In the letter, Holder said “It is possible I suppose to imagine an extraordinary circumstance in which it would be necessary and appropriate under the Constitution and applicable laws of the United States for the President to authorize the military to use lethal force within the territory of the United States. “
In a separate letter, Brennan told Paul that the CIA has no such authority.
The nomination passed its first hurdle Tuesday with the Senate intelligence committee voting to approve the nomination in a 12-3 vote. Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss of Georgia said he voted against the nomination because of inconsistencies in Brennan’s testimony.
Earlier in the day, the White House agreed to provide legal documents written by Justice Department officials explaining the legal rationale for targeting Americans overseas who are involved in terror-related activities that threatened America or American interests.

MY LAZY GUN
“Today I swung my front door wide open and placed my Stevens 320 right in the doorway. I gave it 6 shells, and noticing that it had no legs, even placed it in my wheelchair to help it get around. I then left it alone and went about my business.
While I was gone, the mailman delivered my mail, the neighbor boy across the street mowed the yard, a girl walked her dog down the street, and quite a few cars stopped at the stop sign right in front of our house.
After about an hour, I checked on the gun. It was still sitting there in the wheelchair, right where I had left it. It hadn’t rolled itself outside. It certainly hadn’t killed anyone, even with the numerous opportunities it had been presented to do so. In fact, it hadn’t even loaded itself. Well you can imagine my surprise, with all the media hype about how dangerous guns are and how they kill people. Either the media is wrong, and it’s the misuse of guns by PEOPLE that kills people, or I’m in possession of the laziest gun in the world.
Alright, well I’m off to check on my spoons. I hear they’re making people fat.”

HEADLINE: “Boy, 7, suspended for shaping pastry into gun”
Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/03/05/boy-7-suspended-for-shaping-pastry-into-gun-dad-says/#ixzz2MjKgF7sb
“A 7-year-old Maryland boy was suspended from school for two days for shaping a breakfast pastry into what his teacher thought looked like a gun, according to his father.
FoxBaltimore.com reports that Josh Welch, a second-grader at Park Elementary School in Baltimore, was eating a strawberry tart when he decided to shape it into a mountain.
“All I was trying to do was turn it into a mountain but, it didn’t look like a mountain really and it turned out to be a gun [kind of],” Josh told the station.
Josh, who suffers from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, said his teacher was visibly mad when she saw that the pastry looked like a gun, according to the report.”

Dictators stay in office for one reason ………………. they cannot bring themselves to give up their POWER ………….. the power that protects them and enriches them at the expense of the poor
peasants they supposedly want to help.
What HYPOCRISY !

Chavez sucked. That goes without saying. You think he was able to get the people’s support because the US backed regimes before him did well by the people or didn’t do so well?”

Which is worse? A first grader expelled for dangerous looking pastries or the kids who got suspended for wrestling another kid to the ground while pointing his actual gun at another student (because they were “involved” in a gun incident).

Scout if I mentioned US backed dictators, you would be the 1st to say the US has to play the cards dealt within that region because of geo political concerns, etc. I know because we have had this discussion before

But you go on you wannabe and celebrate that racist holiday Kwanzaa with the other 13,000 people worldwide who are asses as well…….. it doesn’t matter, you will still have a little white boy member…………

TBS, I hear you. Thought that might have been what you were saying. I agree. Don’t know the specifics of your friend obviously, but I suppose it’s just something that has to be taken in its proper context in the larger background of what life is like for a poor country with coveted resources in a critical part of the world (they’re all critical) at the mercy of US imperial impositions. But of course, just to mention that right there takes you well beyond mainstream news and journalistic discussion — and well beyond Bookman-land, needless to say. And you may or may not agree. But I see it as indispensable for an understanding of what Chavez was about.

Ah, Fred. Here’s hoping you will learn many truths as you grow older. I so wish I could be around to know you when you are my age.
Requiescat in pacem, Mr. Chavez. You earned a piece of my heart when you called Mr. Bush the devil.
Of course, we all know that the real devil was/is Mr. Cheney.

Although the USA spends more, it suggests China’s real defense spending approaches $300 billion. And all of that spending is concentrated in one region, East Asia, while the U.S. spending is spread out over many regions of the world.

Illegal immigrants should be adopted one by one by those that favor illegal entry. That’d make them legal. Or adopt three or four and have a big cozy supper ready for them each night when they come home from standing on street corners. Put your liberal piety where your mouth is.

Good morning to all y’all…
Del,
Last night you said:
“They’ll take Florida’s 29 electoral votes. A few more than that will be needed.”
“Jeb Bush’s wife is Hispanic and with Rubio as his running mate they could make a good showing with the Hispanic voters.”
——-
I don’t k now why Republicans think they can put a few token minorities on display and expect the minority masses to suddenly flock to their side, and expecting those masses to suddenly forget the GOP’s actual record regarding those same minorities. Insanity.

Addendum to my 0724. The main problem I see with today’s GOP is that they think they are smarter than the rest of us, when they have proven time and tome again they are not. I can only hope they continue feeling so from 2014 through 2016.
If you want an example, look at Arkansas. The pass a ban on abortion, even over a veto, knowing full well that that ban is unconstitutional via Roe V. Wade. Now the Arkansas tax payers will be forced to pay for legal fees for a legal fight that is a forgone conclusion. It won’t stand. So I ask you how does this put the average tax payer, and woman on their side? And how does this help the Republican Party as a whole?
