Jeb Bush has a principled stand on immigration. Several, in fact.
Last summer, Jeb Bush was in favor of offering illegal immigrants a path to citizenship. As he told Charlie Rose:
“You have to deal with this issue. You can’t ignore it, and so either a path to citizenship, which I would support — and that does put me probably out of the mainstream of most conservatives — or a path to legalization, a path to residency of some kind.”
In his new book, “Immigration Wars: Forging an American Solution”, Bush comes out in stalwart opposition to citizenship.
“It is absolutely vital to the integrity of our immigration system that actions have consequences — in this case, that those who violated the law can remain but cannot obtain the cherished fruits of citizenship. To do otherwise would signal once again that people who circumvent the system can still obtain the full benefits of American citizenship.”
Today on “Morning Joe”, Bush was back to his initial position. Kind of … He repeatedly stressed that the book was written last year, as if something had happened recently to alter what in the book seems to be a strong, principle-based opposition to a path to citizenship. He also argued that a path to legalization would not create a magnet for future illegal immigration, while a path to citizenship somehow would.
“If you don’t have a difference between a path to citizenship or a path to legalization, you’re going to create a magnet going forward for more illegal immigration. So going forward — we wrote this last year — going forward, if there is a difference, if you can craft that in law where you can have a path to citizenship where there isn’t an incentive for people to come illegally, I’m for it. I don’t have a problem with that.”
A couple of points:
1.) The Bush flip-flop-flip has angered veterans of Mitt Romney’s campaign, which last year felt stranded on unpopular ground with the candidate’s “self-deportation” approach.
“Where the hell was this Jeb Bush during the campaign?” one advisor told the Miami Herald. “He spent all this time criticizing Romney and it turns out he has basically the same position. So he wants people to go back to their country and apply for citizenship? Well, that’s self deportation. We got creamed for talking about that. And now Jeb is saying the same thing.”
2.) The distinction that Bush attempts to draw between legalization and citizenship in fact has little real consequence. Those who have immigrated here illegally were drawn by jobs, the chance to escape Third World living conditions or greater opportunity for their children. Getting U.S. citizenship was way, way down on their list. A nice possibility, maybe, but hardly a deciding factor.
The notion that a path to legalization would be a less powerful magnet than a path to citizenship makes no sense, and Bush is smart enough to know it. But when you’re caught tacking to the right when the political winds are blowing left, and when you have ambitions of becoming the third consecutive Republican president named Bush, you have to scramble a bit.

There are memorials on campus… One of the college greens is named for the two who died (Gibbs-Green) and there is an impressive monument to them…the state curriculum for Mississippi History includes lessons on it. It is an approved field trip for classes studying the Vietnam War…

The banks will accumulate Gold bullion, diversify out of USTBonds (even USAgency Mortgage Bonds), and begin to act like real banks again instead of toxic paper factories and obscene derivative casinos.
Shocking events are coming, like earthquakes and tsunamis to foster change. The United States will be largely left behind as valid physical Gold takes center stage in the global financial system, the trade settlement system, and the banking system. The next important new bankers will be those in physical possession of Gold bullion without encumbrance of counter-party, like the Sprott Fund, like bullion banks that do not cooperate with the diabolical New York and London banks.
It never ceases to amaze me how, in just a few short decades, an economy can be completely destroyed. You can thank Milton Friedman, neo-liberalism, outsourcing, globalism, financialization, bubble-nomics, corruption, and a corporate-controlled government.
As it has been said: “a hard, hard rain is a’gonna fall.” This is yet another great article about the “real” state of our economy. Not for the squeamish.

Since the President is having dinner at “neutral ground” at a hotel with Republicans now, I wonder how long until we hear complaints about the spending of money for the hotel and the costs. We have a perfectly good White House for a meeting, fully staffed. This is bound to be Obama’s fault! He should have told the Republican clown car to pull up to the White House. I bet they could have even created a fake front like a Road Runner cartoon to get them inside.

Pew Research has turned up some interesting facts about Twitter and it’s users today. Seems like they consistently slant their “public opinion” to a left position and then pretend that they are just a cross section of the American electorate. Looks like nearly 80% were of a liberal persuasion and most Twitter users were between the ages of 18 and 28. For instance, they reported that only 23% of the American electorate was unhappy with Bozo and his policies. Turns out that it should have been closer to 49%, or pretty well what the election results reported. Twitter seems to believe that they reflect what America is thinking and feeling but the facts point out that they are nothing but a liberal front organization with a liberal agenda. Who would have thought that such an egregious thing could occur?

Just being EOI here, but are you contending that that 49% was specifically an ANTI Obama vote. Reckon maybe, just maybe, a good number of them may well have thought that the GOP platform and candidate was more in keeping with their own views on a whole lot of other issues than the Dem platform and maybe, just maybe, didn’t think Obama was doing such a terrible job, just that somebody else could do better?
You can count me among that 49% (and, no, I didn’t vote for Romney). You can’t count me as one who voted “against” Obama.

I had great English teachers all the way through grade school. I’m still afraid of red pens to this date because of English/Lit.
Don’t have definite plans for V’burg yet, but I gotta go out that way since I’ve visited battlefields through the Southeast and up through the Shenandoah Valley. Vicksburg was a major battle that had serious ramifications, much like Gettysburg.

THE NIGHT WATCHMAN

So they created two positions: a time keeper and a payroll officer then hired two people.
Then Congress said, “Who will be accountable for all of these people?”
So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.
Then Congress said, “We have had this command in operation for one year and we are $918,000 over budget, we must cut back.”
So they laid-off the night watchman.
NOW slowly, let it sink in.
Quietly, we go like sheep to slaughter. Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY during the Carter administration?

AND NOW IT’S 2012 — 35 YEARS LATER — AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS “NECESSARY” DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 BILLION A YEAR. IT HAS 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES; AND LOOK AT THE JOB IT HAS DONE!

I wondered where the corporal came up with the idea that Christianity is not a religion.

I cannot even imagine a fraction of one percent of who agree with that premise.
But turns out it is from the Foxy Master of Misinformation himself. One of the most respected representatives of the Corporation for Psychobabble and Republispeak…………………. Bill O’Reilly.
“It is a fact that Christianity is not a religion, it is a philosophy,” the Fox News host declared confidently. “If the government was saying that the Methodist religion deserves a special place in the public square, I would be on your side.”
But the preposterous one is just cranking up for what comes in a moment:
