Conservatives have no interest in what Chris Christie might say

Yup, it's a real head-scratcher.

Yup, it's a real head-scratcher.

Chris Christie is a nationally popular Republican governor of a blue state in the Northeast, a region where the GOP barely remains competitive. He has a 74 percent approval rating, in a state that Barack Obama carried by 18 percentage points. In fact, no Republican presidential candidate has managed to carry New Jersey since 1988.

Yet Christie has been pointedly NOT invited to speak to the highly influential Conservative Political Action Conference, which meets in Washington, D.C. next month. The confab is widely considered an essential showcase for Republicans with presidential aspirations.

Bobby Jindal will be there. A speech by Ted Cruz will close the convention. The NRA’s Wayne LaPierre has a place of honor on the program. Under the rubric “America’s Future: The Next Generation of Conservatives,” Republican up-and-comers Marco Rubio, Paul Ryan, Rand Paul and Sarah Palin — wait, Sarah Palin? — will thrill convention-goers.

And for anyone who has grown nostalgic for those wonderfully intelligent, provocative 2012 Republican presidential debates, Mitt Romney, Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum will play featured roles.

But no Chris Christie. According to CPAC organizers, the man has proved himself too liberal to be extended an invitation. The pristine conservative minds of CPAC attendees must not be offended by exposure to someone who dares to venture outside the approved ideology, even if that someone might offer the party a way out of the political wilderness. For much the same reason, the Log Cabin Republicans and GOProud, two gay Republican groups, have once again been banned outright from the convention.

So, same as it ever was.

One comment: You talked about going to an unjustified, morally wrong war when the US went into Iraq and then in this post argue that it is legal to take a unborn life. There are no moral problems with this position?

What you talking bout Willis? Have you moved the goal posts into the stratosphere? I completely can’t find it — please elaborate.

One Question: If a unborn child is not a human being then why do states charge people with Homicide when the life of an unborn child is taken?

Here we go — I’m going to give you a flash course in Legaleese 101:

In regards to Feticide and Aboriton – The situations are not similar.

The defendant who assaults a pregnant woman causing the death of the fetus she is carrying destroys the fetus without the consent of the mother. This is not the same as a woman who elects to have her pregnancy terminated by one legally authorized to perform the act.

The focus of Roe v. Wade was on protecting women from governmental interference or compulsion when she was deciding whether to terminate or continue her pregnancy.

The state’s interest in protecting the “potentiality of human life” includes prteciton fo the unborn child, whether an embroyo or a nonviable or viable fetus, and it protects too the woman’s interst in her unborn child and her right to decide whether it shall be carried in utero. 496 US 931, Ct. 2633; 110 L. Ed. 2d 653 (1990)

A Number of other states have enacted statues that make the killing of an unborn child murder, manslaughter, or the crime of feticide. In People v. Davis, 872 P.2d 591 (Cal. 1994), the california Supreme court ruled that a fetus need not be viable to support a murder conviction.

OK so in plain English what I just posted up there ^^ means, succinctly : Even a fetus is protected from murderers. However, the MOTHER is protected from the State forcing her to have a child against her will.

Legaleese 101 – Don’t ya just love it?!

In point of fact, DDR was citing what had been America’s national policy for decades; that is, we do not go to war with countries because we don’t like them but haven’t been attacked. That’s called ‘preventive war’ – going to war to prevent, theoretically, a more disadvantageous to us war at a later time. It is different from preemptive – which is when we have intel we’re facing imminent attack so we strike first. Examples would be watching Soviet missiles moved to firing positions, fueled, etc or Israel attacking Egypt.

Preventive war had never been part of America’s national policy, as I said. Except with Pres Bush and his neocon advisors going to war with Iraq.

After seeing the Tea Party craziness and GOP excesses I guiltily admit to enjoying the current GOP meltdown and death spiral. We need two viable parties to moderate corruption which always comes with one party domination. But, I reason the GOP probably will not totally die – just be marginalized for several election cycles and will eventually fight their way back. More rational GOPers can see this, but get shoved rudely aside by radicals who throw any who disagree under the bus – NJ governor Christie being the latest casualty. Instead, they continue to celebrate losers like Palin and LaPierre.

Big, big mistake, and they wonder why they lose elections? The GOP embraced the Tea Party and far right nuttiness to put GW bush in office and ended up as their captives. The wisdom of party leaders who could not see this coming is suspect. Less myopic people shouted warnings but were roundly disparaged. You see the results now and they are richly deserved.

“One of the foremost duties of Congress is to pass a budget: It has failed for four straight years. Republicans, especially in the House, have continually refused to meet the White House halfway. td,
I just got back here now & saw your noon time response to my post.
Your “BS’ to me is poppycock!
The GOP has lost the popular vote in 5 of the last 6 presidential elections so there has been a series of losses so don’t go off on me with your response that there was only 1 national election.
Reread my posting where I wrote that “…you’ll have to get use to losing national elections..” and that looks to be the case.
And here is a correction supplied from http://www.uselectionatlas.org: obama defeated Romney by 5 million votes, 65, 090,000 to 60, 932,000. Look is up for yourself.
And the electoral college margin was in favor of President Obama by a margin of 332 to 206.
Poor Willard…and you.

“A Fetus is NOT alive. Also it’s not “logic” it’s the LAW. That’s why Feticide is ILLEGAL and Abortions are not.”

Slaves (according the the LAW) used to not be persons either.

It took 250 years to undo that carnage. Time is on our side.

Between goal post moving and rabbit holes someone is going to break their ankle when they step in their own rabbit hole attempting to move their own goal post.

Cool. We’ve done the Center for Puppetry Arts before. Hell, I’m surprised that Bookman’s Blog doesn’t have a special screening room there.

I keep saying I want to do Fernbank too, but time is a mofo…

Holy crap. Can you imagine being cooped up with a woman in a space ship for three years (just to get there) and NOT be able to run away from her nagging?

Poor analogy, in my opinion. But, then again, in many cases you are dealing with people who see the life of a dog as being no different than the life of a fetus (just for you regnad. Don’t want to be accused of moving those stinking goalposts that you are so fond of :) )

You mean the millions of torn apart limb from limb aborted children ?? Those children ?

No problem with that. Also lets show the starving children and the homeless vets and others. Let’s show the real housing that the so-called “moochers” live in. Let’s show what really happens to those kids who are born into families that have had the safety net removed from under them. Let’s show what really happens to women who are brutally raped and then you want to force them to have the child. Let’s show the reality of what happens in wars and battles. Maybe we can get some real changes if people see it.

Scout, correct?

Oh geez, you back on that again? Rewind the tape and hit ‘play’? Ignore everything in between?

Wanna recap? Near as I recollect from about six pages of trying to get you to admit what you think, your position is:

abortion is wrong because it’s murdering children

you would make an exception for life of the mother in danger

you gloss over the fact that the statement above means one of two people facing danger must die to save the other

you hold that you have the authority to make that call because you’ve served in combat and have been faced with life-or-death decisions

you hold you would kill the child and plead self defense for the mother

Yeah, Scout, we all know abortion is wrong, except when it’s you doing the killing (eye roll)

You know I’m with Joe – Why don’t people know their basic history? This is OUR history — the history of OUR country and something that everyone should know!

The 3/5th compromise, set in the Articles of Confederation was NEVER a law. What it was was a compromise because the south was not as populace as the north (with white people); and the north did not want the south to have more voting delegates than they did. That’s where the 3/5 compromise came in — it regards REPRESENTATION.

It was NEVER a law!

I know you were quoting case law. I did’nt mean to make that a personal attack, though, in retrospect, I did use the word “you.”
