At a time when the Republican Party’s image is at a historic low, 62% of the public says the GOP is out of touch with the American people, 56% think it is not open to change and 52% say the party is too extreme….
Republicans are more critical of their party than Democrats are of theirs on most issues. For example, 36% of Republicans say the GOP is out of touch with the American people. Just 23% of Democrats say their party is out of touch. And while 30% of Republicans say their party is not open to change, just 10% of Democrats make the same criticism of their party.
However, Republicans overwhelmingly credit their party for having strong principles; 85% say the GOP has strong principles while 13% say it does not. And 80% of Republicans say their party is looking out for the country’s long-term future.
————————————
Among independents, 65 percent say the GOP is out of touch with the American people, and just 39 percent say the party is open to change.
Meanwhile, in Washington, House Speaker John Boehner says that his party will refuse to consider any budget solution that includes increased revenue. “Higher tax rates are not the answers to our problems,” he told the Credit Union National Association. “Spending is the problem, and spending cuts are the solution.”

Funny how congressional salaries and other perks seem to be missing from Boehner’s list of stuff.
How about a 10% to the salaries we pay to the President and Congress critters?
How about asking them to pay a bit more towards retirement and their health care?
How about closing the congressional gym and removing all subsidies to the congressional dining room? Eliminate free parking at National Airport?
I know the dollars are trivial, but a little symbolism would go a long way.
I mean, let’s ALL share the pain Mr Speaker!

Well he’s right. Spending IS the problem!! Look at what Congress is spending money on:
Two Wars
Tax breaks for businesses that don’t pay ANY taxes and if they pay a minimal amount, they cry and scream like spoiled kids
Tax breaks for the Queen of Means of the world
Tax breaks for the Paris Hilton’s of the world
Subsidies for Big Oil
Subsidies for Big Pharma
No bid contracts for people like Haliburton who in turn charge the government $1K for 3 bullets
Farm subsidies for Big Food
Pay raises for themselves every year (while denying a pay raise for the “little fellows”)
===
All this stuff costs money!! So, yeah, Spending IS a problem; and it’s about time Congress (and Mr. Tan Man), does something about it!

Debbie DoRight is right about all that government spending on Bush tax breaks (for wealthy,) wars (driven by Republicans,) big oil, big pharma subsidies (who give primarily to Republicans.) Republicans want to cut food for the poor, education (for commoner’s children) healthcare, and any other program that supports and sustains life, including protecting the environment. To say they are out of touch is an understatement–they are the party of death.

LHU, to your point about the state of our blogging cons, certainly more than a few are mental midgets, or willfully stupid as Jay has noted., But the biggest problem for the misnamed conservatives that I can see, is their disastrous identity problem. So bad now that they actually define themselves strictly by OUR positions on these challenges and issues.
By that, I mean that for forty years the GOP has not really been FOR much. They are just viciously AGAINST liberalism, progress of most kinds and the great ideals of liberal philosophy.
Take climate change for instance. The cons are clearly not huge lovers of the scientific method and at this point in their history, really seem to have very little respect for science at all. As noted by Jon Huntsman and others. Most are insanely ignorant (by choice), close-minded and utterly unable to speak intelligently on the matter. Further they have no actual rational explanations as to the cause of the problem itself. (At least any that are not laughed out of a ninth grade classroom and beyond.)
What forces them to take that position they have is nothing more than ANTI-liberalism, ANTI-academia and ANTI-intellectualism.
And in this regard, they now stand completely isolated in western civilization.
And as long as we keep them defining themselves by our positions, things are only going to get worse for them…

If republicans REALLY wanted to stop spending, they’d start with their “pay checks” first.
They don’t really need them anyway — they get much more money from their rich overlords than they’d ever get from the people who elected them.
So they should just stop pretending that they work FOR the people and forgo their paychecks. That money, their pension plans, and the healthcare can go back into the budget.
They want to cut government waste, they should lead the way — start with the wastefullness of paying people who don’t even work for you.

The Democrats like to boast they are the common peoples party. I know the Republicans don’t want to tax the wealthy. Thats true, but if one beleives the Democrats are so in touch with the poor and needy? I don’t buy it. I don’t trust ANY politican. Last time I commented on problems with both party’s some deep thinker named Keith called me a Republican (retard). I may be somewhat retarded but I’m no Republican.

Out of touch? You got to be kidding, Jay. These people are brain dead.
First their two chosen clowns and party mouthpieces tell the big lie that Obama cut $716 billion from Medicare and granny will have to die from increased premiums and lower benefits with Lyan Ryan using his momma as a prop.Worse yet he cut Medicare Advantage – granny has to pay for her gym membership but actually the private insurers their imbecile president put in charge of Medicare can no longer make big profits and pay themselves bonuses off of granny.
Now the same buffoons claim Obama has done nothing to cut entitlements while Boner has the House in permanent recess and the Senate GOP has sent McCain and Graham to the White House to beg for forgiveness and try to work a deal with Obama after these two trashed Hillary and Hagel. Any idea why their own call them the stupid party?Yeah bring Romney to C-PAC to explain why he does not want his tax deductions or revenue from offshore cut to gin up the imbeciles in the base-great idea. They haven’t a clue.

Hiya josef!!
Well, josef — as SuperFly said in the movie, “Superfly” — Talk is cheap. Show me the money.
The GOP talk a good game, then they turn around and give tax breaks to people who own their own private aircrafts (or the company that makes them); and then cut education funds, Pre-K, and deny their citizens a chance to get matching funds from Obamacare.
Like I said, they TALK real nice and pretty and then SAY what they think you want to hear, but when it’s time to actually CHANGE what they’re doing, they somehow don’t change anything — just remain the same.

True dat. Huntsman, Jindal (maybe), Christie.
And the now disgusted American voters threw out some of the most virulent and extreme of them like West, Akin, Walsh, Mourdock and Allen. (Bachmann survived, but barely, and in a district that she should have won, handily.)
But as of today? Moderate Republicans still have one helluva time winning their primaries and running the purity tested gauntlet.
So, as of today, that moderating wing of the GOP is as about strong as a ten minute old foal.
And there is some considerable debate as to whether that neocon mare will allow her newborn to suckle and live….. or not.
But to your point jonix, it would greatly help the nation if that party did generally return to positions of the reasoned and reasonable center and gave up their Christians only, whites only reactionary madness…

Does Jay Bookman really think there is any real difference between Barack Obama and John Boehner?
Obama basically agrees with Boehner about spending. He agrees with Paul Ryan more or less, too. It’s just that because of his party affiliation, Obama can’t come right out and say he’s about dismantling the centerpieces of social welfare in America. So he offers the fig leaf of token tax rate increases. And if the Republicans only knew how to take yes for an answer, we would be swiftly on our way to where we’re headed anyway: Euro style austerity, with its concomitant social turmoil.

Amid budget cuts, lawmakers seek millions in tax breaks
Georgia lawmakers have been doing the same fiscal two-step every session since the start of the Great Recession.
First they wring their hands about not having enough money to fund things like for schools and public health care. And then they dole out expensive special-interest tax breaks that ensure that they have trouble funding schools and public health care.
Already this session, House members have filed more than a dozen tax-break bills, including one that would make permanent a tax exemption for Gulfstream, the maker of private jets on Georgia’s coast, and other similar companies.
Together, the tax breaks would cost the state — and save select individuals and companies — tens of millions of dollars at a time when K-12 education funding has been cut more than $1 billion and the state’s public health program — which provides services to 1.7 million Georgians — has monumental funding holes.

That used to mean something at one time but right now the ideology of the far right is silly. It’s all about money, period. I’m not saying the deficit is not important, right now jobs and wages are or should be the most dominate issue and yet, all we get is 16 trillion. If it took us 12 years to get to this point, a reasonable approach would be at least that much time to unwind it all. We should look at it as a student loan to the citizens and pay it off accordingly…

With an approval rating of around 10 or 12 percent, the Congress might need to do a little soul searching — hell, a colonectomy was few more favorably than the Congress of the United States. And, that stinks!

The sequester deal included Obama pledging not to ask for a more taxes. Sources: WAPO and other publications. The most hysterical instance of the administration trying to distance president redundant from this scheme is the NYT writer (I think Jackie Calmes) calling it the Gramm-Rudman sequester since way back in the 1980’s Warren Rudman and Phil Gramm discussed a sequester as a trigger to prevent overspending. If we are going to blame Boehner for all of the shiftlessness in the administration, why not just promote him to the presidency? If he is going to be the perennial whipping boy he might as well receive a pay raise. And he will be a cheaper employee because he is not nearly so self-indulgent as His Redundancy.

From an email I just received…
Moments ago, by a vote of 58 to 41, the U.S. Senate confirmed Chuck Hagel as our country’s next Secretary of Defense.
Few understand the sacrifices made by our troops and military families better than Secretary Hagel.
He’ll be the first enlisted man to serve in the position, was awarded two Purple Hearts (his brother earned three), and made a career of advocating for veterans in the U.S. Senate.
That’s why VoteVets drove tens of thousands of petitions, letters and calls into the Senate during the confirmation process.
You should be proud of our collective effort in this fight — the voice of veterans and military families made a real difference in overcoming the first ever filibuster of a Secretary of Defense nominee.
And while a number of Republicans put patriotism over party today, it was sad to see once proud moderates like Lindsey Graham cower in fear of a potential primary campaign.
But overcoming the right-wing smears ensures Chuck Hagel emerges from this process stronger than he entered — fully vetted, battle-tested and ready to lead on day one.
I hope you’ll share your thoughts and priorities for Secretary Hagel at the link below — it’s an opportunity to have your voice heard by the incoming leadership at the Department of Defense.

A Jackson MOT? Inquiring minds…
I may have told this one here before, so forgive me if I repeat myself. When I was the editor of our high school literary magazine we dedicated it to our school’s most illustrious alumna, Miss Eudora. Full of chutzpah, I asked her to come to receive the dedication and the first copy. She graciously agreed, came and read “Why I Live at the PO” much to the joy of the assembled students, and told us that of the many honors she had received, this was one of her greatest.

CLASSIC EXAMPLE OF LIBERAL EMOTION OVER REASON ……. AND IT WILL COST LIVES.
Headline (FOX): “Is President Obama willing to draft women”
A) “The Obama administration framed its decision to put women into combat as a matter of choice and fairness.
In 1981, the Supreme Court upheld a males-only draft registration law for one reason alone: “Since women are excluded from combat, Congress concluded that they would not be needed in the event of a draft.
Obama has just single-handedly gutted the legal rationale for excluding women from the draft.”
B) “Congress must use its power to find out the truth about women in combat. Three questions must be raised, and the data collected to answer them:
1. What is the cost to military effectiveness of sending women into combat?
2. What is the cost to the taxpayer per successful woman recruit compared to male combat troops?
3. Finally, what is the cost to the physical and mental health of young women themselves, compared to male soldiers?”
C) “Even with sharply lowered physical standards for women in the Army, for example, women’s failure, injury, and attrition rates are much higher than men’s. (Meaning that the cost of recruiting one female soldier is much higher). Women soldiers also have higher rates of hospitalization for mental disorders and also higher rates of evacuation from the field for psychiatric reasons, a 2011 review of the medical literature by Dr. Fatma Batuman and colleagues showed.
And then there’s the fact that at least one out of ten active-duty women soldiers is pregnant, unintentionally each year. A 2013 study by Kate Grindlay and Daniel Grossman found that almost 11 percent of women soldiers said they had been pregnant unintentionally in the past year.
If one out of ten men were unavailable for combat each year because of an unexpected medical condition, our military would literally be decimated.”
D) “Listen hard to Marine Capt. Katie Petronio, who was deployed twice under combat conditions with the engineering corps in Iraq and Afghanistan. “My main concern is a question of longevity,” she wrote in the Marine Corps Gazette, “At the beginning of my tour in Helmand Province, I was physically capable of conducting combat operations for weeks at a time.”
However, “By the fifth month into the deployment, I had muscle atrophy in my thighs that was causing me to constantly trip and my legs to buckle with the slightest grade change. My agility during firefights and mobility on and off vehicles and perimeter walls was seriously hindering my response time and overall capability. It was evident that stress and muscular deterioration was affecting everyone regardless of gender; however, the rate of my deterioration was noticeably faster than that of male Marines and further compounded by gender-specific medical conditions.”
Petronio lost 17 pounds and is now infertile.
This happened even though she was carrying a fraction of the physical load men carried.”

Headline: “Liberal media will ‘shut you down, stab you, kill you, fire you’ if you disagree”
“Fox News political analyst and “Special Report” panelist JUAN WILLIAMS said in an interview with The Daily Caller’s Ginni Thomas that mainstream media outlets “stab” and “kill” dissenting voices.”
“I always thought it was the Archie Bunkers of the world, the right-wingers of world, who were more resistant and more closed-minded about hearing the other side,” he said. “In fact, what I have learned is, in a very painful way — and I can open this shirt and show you the scars and the knife wounds — is that it is big media institutions who are identifiably more liberal to left-leaning who will shut you down, stab you and kill you, fire you, if they perceive that you are not telling the story in the way that they want it told.”

The presidents most important priority is national security. Gates had previously cut 500 billion out of defense due to our disengagement in Iraq and winding down of military operations in Afghanistan. The sequester takes additional billions of dollars out of defense, which is concerning at a time where America sees many potential adversaries even those who’ve returned from the past. This isn’t a good time to cut the military any further and that’s why I think the C-n-C should have budget transfer authority to ensure our national defense capability isn’t compromised by this looming sequester.

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2013/02/republican-sequestration-plan.html”
Republicans all agree that taxes are bad, defense spending cuts are bad, and some unspecified entitlement cuts would be good. The conservative media offer a window into the thinking of the Republican Party, and I follow it fairly closely. To read conservative pundits, Obama’s demand is higher taxes, full stop. Conservatives are not rejecting Obama’s offer. They are refusing to consider it at all. They will endorse Boehner’s impossible-to-attain goals, and they will denounce Obama’s imaginary all-tax alternative, and they will proclaim themselves ready to accept sequestration rather than submit to the socialist hell Obama would impose on them otherwise.
But consideration of the actual choice at hand — reduce tax deductions and cut Medicare and Social Security in a manner acceptable to Obama, versus seeing if Obama will cancel out sequestration with no replacement, versus accepting sequestration as permanent policy — is getting no hearing at all. I don’t know what Republicans will do, and I’m fairly sure they don’t either.

At some point in the near future, we will have to cut back on spending simply because our military will be out of Afghanistan and the weapons of war will not be needed as extensively.
However, we have a cyber-threat from the Chinese military that threatens to cripple our Information Technology systems that we depend on so heavily.
Without the civilian work force to help counter that threat, we will lose our military advantage. As you know, the Chinese have the world’s largest standing army and we can not stand and fight them using old school military tactics.

Fully one half of the American electorate did not vote for this clown. Libs are ready to put those one half out to pasture and to ignore what they profess, saying that the Republican party is on the ropes and has no message. Well, it had a message for about one half of the electorate…… not enough to defeat the moochers, the government hangers on or the welfare queens but we are not finished yet….. far from it. We will prevail. Those black 92% are still in the minority and the more that the guilt filled white Democrat realizes he has been screwed without a smile, we will see a return to sanity in our government. Estimates made by a Bozo govt agency said today that Bozocare will cost the American people an additional 6.5T dollars in the next decade. That’s trillion with a T, a capital T. Black Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Harry C. Alford told The Daily Caller that he ”ignored” President Obama’s “spread the wealth” comment in 2008 and “had hopes” for him “because he was black.”
“I don’t really support him too well and he knows it and that’s a badge of honor. He’s bad. He’s bad and I supported him. I voted for him the first time around. I had hopes because he was black. Shame on me,” Alford told TheDC at the National Press Club after an anti-gun control news conference.

Another example of why the stupid party is losing touch:
“”"”"”"”ashington, DC – On news that Senate Republicans this evening successfully filibustered and thus blocked a yes or no vote on the nomination of U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert Bacharach to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, Constitutional Accountability Center Vice President Judith E. Schaeffer said:
“Today’s filibuster is the lowest point yet in the Senate Republican leadership’s unprecedented blockade against President Obama’s judicial nominees, even utterly uncontroversial nominees like Robert Bacharach. With their action today, Senate conservatives have reconfirmed their total disregard for the third branch of our government — the federal judiciary — to the great detriment of our courts and all Americans seeking access to justice.”
Schaeffer continued, “Today’s vote shows that the partisan dysfunction in our Nation’s capital has drowned out virtually every conservative voice of reason in the Senate. Both of Judge Bacharach’s home state Republican Senators — Tom Coburn and Jim Inhofe — are on the record strongly supporting his nomination. In June, Senator Coburn even said that ‘it’s stupid’ for Senate Republicans to block a yes or no vote on consensus nominees like Bacharach. Nonetheless, rank partisanship and unprecedented obstruction won out today, as Senators Coburn and Inhofe, by refusing to vote for cloture, joined the vast majority of their Republican colleagues in denying Bacharach a yes or no vote on his nomination,” Schaeffer said.”"”"”"”"”"”"”"

You can tout your ideology and so can I but we have to be objective as to our future and the future of our county. We toy with race issues, class issues, union issues, welfare issues, spending issues, tax issues….. and many more, however non of these issues are as important as our future and holding on to our heritage and our freedom. We are 230 yrs into a pretty good run which has worked out for most of us pretty well. Now is not the time to fu*k it up.

If you fanatics had any brains or shame you would acknowledge that the reason you just got trounced again had nothing to do with your fascist talking points about giving things to stupid, lazy (i.e., poor black and brown primarily) Americans. It had everything to do with the fact that you just nominated an effete, spineless northeastern liberal that actually convinced you fools that he was a “conservative”! Clearly you idiots have no idea what it even means anymore.
But then what choice did you have?
That slate of awful, undetectable, foot-in-mouth gang of candidates was as pathetic as the one in 2008! Which I thought was almost impossible to pull off, but you did! Incredible!
And because of fools like you, there is NO chance that your moribund cluster___ of a party can be revived. You will do the exact same thing in 2016. And get crushed again. And then blame stupid people for it.

Absent the racisim card that libs throw when they run out of thought, it would be the exact other way around.
I mean really, since when is it racists to kick out or punish folks who have violated our borders ?
Actually I am leaning toward the thought of giving up. I think it would do republicans and conservatives a great service to allow you libs to take total control. Only then will you have to actually take the blame for what you do. Raise the taxes, open the borders, take the guns and spend all of our money.

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America ’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America ’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, “the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.” ~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006

Romney Lost, get over it. As long as you keep talking sh*t about those in the lower income levels, Republicans will keep losing. In case you haven’t noticed, incomes for most people are not increasing.

Obama to threaten Iran with military strike in June, Israeli media reports
President Barack Obama says the United States could launch an attack on Iran as early as this June, Israeli media reports. [...]
Israel has long-urged the White House to use its military prowess to intervene in Iran’s rumored nuclear weapon procurement plan, demands which have by-and-large been rejected by the Obama administration. According to the latest reports, though, the United States might finally be willing to use its might to make a stand against Iran’s race for a nuke.
According to a report on Israel’s Channel 10 News that has since been picked up by the Times of Israel, Pres. Obama will use an upcoming meeting overseas to discuss a military strike on Iran. Pres. Obama is scheduled to visit Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu next month, and during the get-together the two leaders will reportedly work out the details for a possible assault.

You must not have understood what I said. All politicians lie. For me to expect Obama would not lie would be like me expecting to lay a golden egg out of my ass and cash it in at the bank. I’m the son of a politician, so I know how much they lie. It’s been that way for as long as I’ve been alive, so I seriously doubt that this is some new thing that just popped up.
That’s as straight as I can be. The first truly honest politician in this day and age will not be an elected politician. Hell, they all lie during campaigns, and people still vote for them. They’re not going to lie to get the job and then get some kind of honesty shot after they take office.

If you are arguing that expulsion is enforcement I hope your ok with the police just making the crook leave your house rather than keeping him from going in.
To try and say that your side doesn’t want open borders is to ignore every act that your reps take. Obama is giving waivers to law breakers and u want to a t as if he is hard on them.

I don’t have that exact answer, and I don’t intend on becoming a chess piece in this debate. Contrary to popular opinion, immigration laws ARE being enforced. To the extent of locking down the borders so nobody gets in, I’ve previously stated my position on what it will take to accomplish that.
As long as we’re a desirable place to live, people are going to enter this country and live without authorization. We give away tourist visas like the Easter Bunny hiding eggs. There’s a growing list of countries who don’t need visas to enter the US. There is no system to ensure timely departures, so even if nobody ever crossed the land borders, we would still have illegal immigration issues.
Until we become a North Korea or Cuba, where nobody wants to live, we will have illegal immigration issues. If you put enough bodies on the land border where there were a person every 100 feet around the clock, they would still tunnel underground to get here.

Most of you know I am a con and it is with that in mind that I have stood tall and fought the good fight with you. I mean I do know I am on a very liberal blog yet I have tried to argue con points. Most of you have entertained me, some of you are exactly what you say cons are, stuck and uncompromising.
As a con I have stated that I would work with libs to eliminate government recognition of marriage and make it between you and your God, with no tax advantage to either viewpoint. I have suggested that gay adoption should be legal nationwide for the benefit of the kids who need help from all. I have suggested that sensible gun control should be pursued, but by a constitutional avenue not executive orders or city mandates. Since it is actually spoken of in the constitution. I have tried to agree that tax loopholes be eliminated. All of these are con points of ill-repute however, for the most part I have seen very little give by you guys.
I will admit that I have stall worth positions but I have indicated where I would compromise, I see no such inclination from ya ll.
You refuse to lower taxes, control spending, acknowledge that our borders are wide open, you degrade our positions by use of race and you call my character not question when I make a valid point.
I would simply suggest that when a con indicates same sex unions should be recognized maybe just maybe he is trying to compromise with you.
Not that you care but I believe the blog changes are coming soon, when they do I will not sign up again.
With that I enjoyed the banter and hope that someday you guys will see there is a need to stop spending so much money.
I am sure some of you will have a smart response but so be it.

I pray very hard that most of the posts here are supposed to be satire or humor. I honestly hope that some of these people are not posting “serious thought” because we’re toast if they are.

Bro .. .. haha I think your link is a good description of what I’m seeing here!
I had 2 people in the restaurant the other day – both in their 50-60’s, white, one male, one female. They sat right beside each other and started talking. At first, I thought a love connection was being made. Then a server comes to the back to tell me they are getting out of hand.
I listened for a few minutes – it was politics. Imagine two people as far left and right as possible chatting it up. It was ugly.
It was 3PM in the afternoon, and I had to tell these to AARP members to stop acting like children. I almost gave them the Bookman-Ban

Just record them and put them on YouTube. That way people worldwide can enjoy their stupidity. That’s what I would do.

The GOP seem to be so hunkered down behind their ideological wall, they are a bit like this…

100% of the mathematicians say that 90% or more of the liberal media members of the Obama Misinformation League lie 95% of time about the statistics that were gathered by pollsters who are 92.5% likely to skew their polls in order to prove their 69% political leanings. Of course, 110% of the time, Jay is just plain full of it! How is that for accuracy in statistics. As the saying goes, figures don’t lie, but liars figure! lol
