Nasty NASCAR incident this afternoon. Wonder if that will affect tomorrow’s race ?
LOL actually that’s Terry Branstad, Iowa governor.
I actually was kind of impressed that he would get up there and allow himself to look so silly…
And td, I could be wrong – and you will, I’m sure, immediately correct me if so – but Obama never said it was “all the idea” of the Republicans. And of course the ‘middle class tax increase’ that has you and your fellow travelers so exercised was simply the expiration of a temporary social security tax reduction. Of course you knew that too…

“Obama has been sowing the seeds of racial hatred; we were healing quite well as a nation on racial issues until Obama came along and now we have a lot of racial discord. He may begin wiping out a few hundred people who own guns, pull a large scale Waco or a Ruby Ridge type incident and have it tinged it with racial overtones. But just in case Obama goes through with his plans to take down the Internet, people are setting up phone-trees all over the place to stop Obama in his tracks.”
Blogger Greg Howard, on the Talk To Solomon Show, 2-19-2012.
Love this kind of stuff, it makes me feel really well adjusted. Gotta run, time to go track down a phone tree.

Says a member of a gang that has a 2% black representation in a nation that is 13.1% black.
And conversely is 90% white in a country that is 63.4% white.
Call me crazy but that does not look very healthy.
Segregation is still alive and well in Republican America…

Just to further expand on the wartime presidency thing:
Do you not think it is going to take an inordinate amount of historical lensing (and more that a few bottles of white-out) to judge the war in Iraq as justified in terms of US military casualty count and financial cost? (nearly 5,000 dead and over 30,000 wounded and $800B and counting?)
If you play poker, you should stop because you are going all in on an inside straight with 3 aces on the board.

Sometimes your total lack of knowledge when you think you know everything just amazes me.
Presidents do not even get a full reading of their records for at least 50 years after they have left office (due to national security top secret papers). There are still documents from JFK’s term that are still classified. A real historian can not do a proper job of analyzing a Presidents contribution (or lack thereof) on the national security prospective until all the documents are available (since you claim to be a vet then you of all people should have an understanding of this one would think).
The polls you drag out are nothing more then a media feel good story. They mean nothing as far as what the historians will really say about a President.

They’ll run tomorrow. The wall will likely not get repainted, but they will repair and replace the fencing and things necessary to make it as safe as possible. I wonder if they’ll add something like the backstop netting used at baseball games to keep fly balls from knocking you on the head.

“due to national security top secret papers”
Given the Bush administration’s penchant for outing covert CIA operatives, I am sure if there was anything in Bush II’s paperwork that makes a reasonable case for going to war in Iraq, they would’ve found a way to leak it.

The 2% increase is taxes is what the propaganda machine (Lame stream media) of the President wants the low information voters to think about and is not what I am talking about. What about all the middle class people with 401K investments that now pay 20% instead of 15% on their long term investments? What about all the middle class people that are going to pay for every needle used, machine attached too, test done in that hidden Obamacare tax? How much has the middle classes taxes been raised now when you consider these added taxes?

While you are considering possibilities that none of us know anything about. Consider the thought that Osama did not have just 9-11 in mind when he attacked the US and how many additional plots and plans were crushed by the Bush administration.
Like I said we will not know and the history of the Bush administration will not truly be written for at least 46 more years.

td: once again, your dumbass is showing. 401(k) participants pay no tax on gains in their accounts.
Only individuals who make more than $450,000/yr (married) pay the new 20% rate on long-term capital gains. And that only only personal investments — not on 401(k)s.
Even this is much less than the former 28% rate that was in place til King Dumbass the First took office.
thanks td for your further explanation
I’d echo Look – I have a 401K and I’m not paying 20%. Thanks to the Obama recovery, my 401K is doing pretty well, thank you very much.
Do you mean the estate tax? If so, of course that won’t hit anyone in the middle class.
And as to the ACA, its implementation is already cutting health care costs – so again, I think – respectfully – that you’re mislead. Or misleading, perhaps – only you know that for sure.

First, $450,000 for a married couple is NOT rich (especially if you own a small business and file as a individual) and if Obama had gotten his way that would have been $250,000 for a married couple and $200,000 for an individual.
“Your glaring lack of education and your ignorance on most of the issues of the day are an embarrassment that you should be mindful of.”
No it is you that believe the that social justice, income redistribution, Keynesian economic theory, political correctness, abortion is not murder, think that $16.5 trillion debt and borrowing 40 cents on every dollar we spend today is the truly uneducated dumb asses.

it was a good day.
February 23rd, 201311:03 pm
…is[sic] the truly uneducated dumb asses.
Oh, the irony!
If you are referring to section 1250, the 25% only applies to the cost basis adjustment due to depreciation claimed (or allowable) during rental service. If I recall correctly, that 25% is a maximum and graduated.
February 23rd, 201311:05 pm
td: I never said income of $450,000 for a married couple is rich. That is simply the threshold for the new 20% rate.
I think that a society and country that spends in excess of $1.2 trillion on its military (which is more than the total of all of the other countries on earth spend) has its priorities misplaced.
I still don’t like you. You disgust me. You’re a jingoistic, brainwashed, brain-dead, mindless, conservabot who relies on others to do your thinking for you.

If that engine block gets high enough to clear that fence, gravity will ensure that the only thing stopping it will be the ground. Using that kind of overhead netting might catch tires and other pieces of car, but I doubt anything over 100lbs or so would be stoppable at that speed and height.

“…Keynesian economic theory…”
You crack me up td:
Keynes’ theories are standing the test of time quite well thank you.
Even one of his most vocal critics in the 90’s, Gregory Mankiw, wrote in November 2008 in The New York Times:
“If you were going to turn to only one economist to understand the problems facing the economy, there is little doubt that the economist would be John Maynard Keynes. Although Keynes died more than a half-century ago, his diagnosis of recessions and depressions remains the foundation of modern macroeconomics. His insights go a long way toward explaining the challenges we now confront. . . . Keynes wrote, ‘Practical men, who believe themselves to be quite exempt from any intellectual influence, are usually the slave of some defunct economist.’ In 2008, no defunct economist is more prominent than Keynes himself.”

Apparently Michelle Obama cares more about the health of America’s children than she does about her own dignity (not that she came off looking bad at all in that segment). I for one don’t have a problem with that.
If only there were some Republican politicians who cared more about Americans than they do about sticking it to the President, the poor, and Mexicans.
February 23rd, 201311:28 pm
“Sucks for you that you were born five hundred years too late, huh?”
Actually abortion wasn’t much of an issue in this country until about 110 years ago when the medical profession realized that they were losing a lot of revenue to the mid-wives and started pressing for legislation to govern women’s reproductive abilities.

I think that a society that spends more on means tested entitlement programs so that people can abdicate having to suffer consequences for their actions and not take responsibility for their actions is corrupt. I think a country that borrows 40 cents of every dollar we spend and has stuck its suture children and grandchildren is morally bankrupt.
It is a Constitutional requirement to spend money on the military and our whole Federal governments top requirement is to defend this nation from enemies both foreign and domestic. I think you progressives not working to balance the budget and wanting to do nothing but spend more and more money are enemies of the future of our nation.
And you are nothing more then a then a Marxist believing socialist and that disgust me to no end.
According to Forbes rankings, Detroit is the most miserable city in the United States.
Home to violent crimes, high unemployment, decreasing population and economic crises, Detroit beat out Miami (last years winner) along with Flint-MI, Chicago-IL, and Modesto-CA. The news comes on the heels of a panel of experts who said last week “the automotive city was facing a fiscal emergency and potential bankruptcy, as well as a possible financial takeover by the state.”
The criteria: “Forbes looked at 200 of the country’s largest urban areas and ranked them on factors including crime rates, foreclosures, taxes, home prices, commute times, weather and decreasing populations.”
Detroit has been run by Democrat mayors since 1964.
The top ten miserable cities:
1. Detroit, MI
2. Flint, MI
3. Rockford, IL
4. Chicago, IL
5. Modesto, CA
6. Vallejo, CA
7. Warren, MI
8. Stockton, CA
9. Lake County, IL
10. New York, NY

Hey td………40% of the women that give birth in this country right now are on Medicaid. Without abortion being a safe and medical legal procedure……my goodness, just think of the reaming we taxpayers would be getting.
You can be either a fiscal conservative like myself, who realizes abortion is pro-taxpayer necessity, or you can be a religious conservative, as you apparently are. But you cannot be both.

Two quick links:
Regarding your timeline, modern surgery (blood loss, pain infection control) predates 1900 by several decades. Surgery, IMHO, is significantly beyond the “tincture of time” approach to medicine.
In fact, there is a local element to the history of modern surgery in that Crawford Long (see Emory/Crawford Long hospital) is generally regarded as the father of modern anesthesia.

If the GOP does anything other than call BO’s bluff, they should be completely turned over…they probably need that already.
The closer the sequester gets, the higher the volume of gloom, doom and despair directly from the WH..If they truly believe that, they too should support cliff jumping. If BO can then drag up alledged negatively impacted, starving folks after the fact, he certainly will stoop but he better be sure..
Remember the air traffic controllers in 1981 cries of “aluminum shower from the sky’?
I think this is another case of BO’s strategy of making people sick and then making them better. No way all this hysteria, if any, is realized.
Last thing this dope wants is to go over cliff and see no major impact…if he is correct, GOP’s last straw may be pulled. If he is BS’ing, tide will turn..
Last I heard only 27% of folks knew anything about sequester..

February 24th, 20138:48 am
Why compare to Mary Lincoln?……….
February 24th, 20138:50 am
You are correct. Her husband (the President) IS “fair game” and I will level my criticism of policies of his and OTHER politicians that do not sit well with me (and I have)…one example is the current gun control debate. Some things I agree with; the more extreme things I do not. I am a gun owner, so I have my own opinions. HOWEVER, I ALWAYS fall on the side of “intellectual honesty” (which I have come to despise the expression because it is so overused these days). Let’s not forget that we have a total 600 congresspersons roundabout who have MORE to do with this than the President ever has or ever will. Congress controls the purse strings. Along with that, you’re stretching in your characterizations of what the President has been saying and trying to do.
I just say you can’t have it both ways. You call the man a “dope” because CUTS (which you claim you want) will go into effect and in a major way. The problem is…these cuts hit one of the largest sacred cows we have – DEFENSE! That’s the problem. We seem to hate “government workers”, but everything defense related pretty much is just that. I know…I was married to that “industry” for quite a long time. Heaven forbid the defense contractors get hit in their pockets. Those grimy little “government workers” who make all of that possible though, screw THEM! They’re “overpaid. You cannot have one without the other. What the president has in fact been doing is telling people the truth about the impact. I sat and watched the JCS detail on CSPAN all of the base closings around the country that will need to happen. Now… radiate outward from there. The president is NOT lying about these things. I just think if people who oppose him simply because of the MAN he is, yet hide behind a facade saying it’s something else only hurt themselves…because it’s totally obvious to people when the arguments are dissected what’s really behind it all. Not saying that is YOU (thought he is a “dope” in your eyes), just saying in general.
