Randy California would have turned 62 this week. He drowned in the ocean while rescuing his 12-year-old son from a rip current near the home of Bernice Pearl at Molokai, Hawaii. He managed to push his son Quinn (who survived) towards the shore.
RIP Randy, I loved your stuff…

Doggone: “Nope. Because that kind of “equality” can never be achieved”
*Which* kind of equality can never be achieved? We haven’t really defined it yet.
But if you’re saying that some reasonable degree of economic equality in real terms and real evenness of opportunity cannot be achieved, that’s simply an ungrounded assertion.
To say that absolute equality of outcomes cannot be guaranteed in the last instance does not mean that egregious, soaring inequalities cannot even be ADDRESSED. That’s what those who benefit most from that inequality naturally argue. Because it’s very convenient for them to argue it.

To state that one has spoken to elected officials and lobbied elected officials is now “bragging”. Just wow.
Bragging would be to state that I made the highest grade, in a class of about 200, in Newt’s “Renewing American Civilization” at KSU. Is that bragging or just stating a fact?
BTW: I also had the distinct pleasure of telling Ms. Cynthia that she was a blatant hypocrite in that class. Asking Jesse Jackson how he could claim to be a Christian and Preacher and still support abortion in a speech he made at KSU.
One of the best moments was to be able to sit in front of the student center in a chair, within 10 feet, and watch BB King sing and play the blues for about an hour. That was a true pleasure.

To state that one has spoken to elected officials and lobbied elected officials is now “bragging”. Just wow.
IF that were all you stated, I wouldn’t have called it bragging. I recall you stating that you knew legislators and could call them up to get legislation passed or something to that effect. You were basically trying to show how big of a nutsack you had when it came to Georgia politics.
Bragging would be to state that I made the highest grade, in a class of about 200, in Newt’s “Renewing American Civilization” at KSU. Is that bragging or just stating a fact?
It’s whatever you want it to be. I, on the other hand, wouldn’t make mention of that class as it sounds like nothing more than a fluff elective course. When you can claim to have the highest grade in differential equations in a class of 200, then that’s bragging on something worth bragging about. Your boast, fact, or whatever you want to call it is like someone bragging on making the highest grade in underwater basket weaving.
If/When Newt’s course becomes standard for a degree field across the entire country, then it might be a boastful claim to make. Until that time, it’s nothing more than fodder for laughter to me.

If you think:
Getting gas prices to under $2 by cratering the US economy
Starting not one, but TWO wars
Overseeing an administration that helped guide us to unemployment numbers unseen since Reagan was in office.
A financial system so dysfunctional it took nearly a trillion taxpayer dollars to keep it from self-immolating entirely

an economic system in which investment in and ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange of wealth is made and maintained chiefly by private individuals or corporations, especially as contrasted to cooperatively or state-owned means of wealth.

UNFETTERED LIBERALISM:
Headline: “Employers could be pressured to hire more workers with a criminal background under recent guidelines issued by the federal government.”
Translation: Obey the law and if competing with an equally qualified applicant who hasn’t obeyed the law ………….. he/she may get the job instead.

“The District of Columbia’s Fire and Emergency Medical Services says there are no plans to punish first responders for their participation in an economic speech by President Obama, but are still reviewing the event.
Earlier this week, Obama surrounded himself with police and other first responders during remarks regarding the real world impact of the across-the-board package of federal spending cuts known as sequestration, looming in March should Congress fail to reach a deficit reduction agreement. But Washington’s fire and EMS chief told a local TV station the appearance of three firefighters at the event may have violated department regulations.
“I didn’t know about it, the deputy mayor didn’t know about it, the mayor didn’t know about it,” Chief Kenneth Ellerbe said. “There should be protocol followed anytime one of our employees representing the District of Columbia appears at a public event.”

Ruh, roh.
On Saturday, gun rights advocates will be organizing at least 121 rallies across the country in a “day of resistance” to President Obama’s gun violence prevention proposals. But some tea party activists are questioning the credentials of the group organizing the rallies, a Mesa, Arizona-based outfit called TheTeaParty.net that’s been criticized as a data-harvesting operation designed to vacuum up contact information and credit card numbers from unsuspecting and largely clueless conservative activists.

Which president started the Vietnam war?
Make a choice between Truman who gave material and financial aid to France, Eisenhower who added advisers, intelligence support and Air America, Kennedy who sent in the Green Berets or Johnson who sent in the Marines.

Because lord knows the person who is out of jail and who therefore has in principle paid back his debt to society should continue to be plagued into perpetuity and never allowed to forget their earlier wrongdoing. They should be branded for life, in other words. Might as well just brand them with tattoos.
That’s a very authoritarian way of thinking.
