“Start asking security experts which powerful Washington institutions have been penetrated by Chinese cyberspies, and this is the usual answer: almost all of them.
The list of those hacked in recent years includes law firms, think tanks, news organizations, human rights groups, contractors, congressional offices, embassies and federal agencies.
The information compromised by such intrusions, security experts say, would be enough to map how power is exercised in Washington to a remarkably nuanced degree. The only question, they say, is whether the Chinese have the analytical resources to sort through the massive troves of data they steal every day….
“They’re trying to make connections between prominent people who work at think tanks, prominent donors that they’ve heard of and how the government makes decisions,” said Dan Blumenthal, director of Asian studies at the American Enterprise Institute, which also has been hacked. “It’s a sophisticated intelligence-gathering effort at trying to make human-network linkages of people in power, whether they be in Congress or the executive branch.”
According to experts, the Chinese hack everybody. They hack major corporations and steal trade secrets — attacks against Google, Apple, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times have been publicized in recent years. They hack lowly individual dissidents. They hack, or attempt to hack, major agencies in the U.S. government, including the Pentagon, CIA and White House and most certainly the Department of Commerce. Given the byzantine ways of the Chinese government, they almost certainly hack each other as well.
The natural response to such a discovery is outrage, and to some degree that outrage is justified. It is, at some level, a violation of our national sovereignty. But it gets complicated because China is hardly alone. A lot of other countries are aggressive about hacking into overseas computer networks, including the Israelis, the French and the Russians.
Oh, and the Americans too. It would be naive in the extreme to believe that the U.S. government isn’t running cyber-spying operations of its own. Those operations probably don’t extend to efforts to steal commercial secrets of foreign companies so that data can then be handed to U.S. companies, which the Chinese and other governments do. But on issues of national security, we are no doubt just as invasive as anybody else.
In other words, while everybody is a victim in this thing, everybody is also a villain. Nobody’s clean.
It’s also important to distinguish between cyberspying and cyberwarfare. If you can penetrate a highly sensitive computer network and steal data, you may also be able to do great damage to that network at a time of your choosing.
As President Obama put it in his State of the Union address:
“We know foreign countries and companies swipe our corporate secrets. Now our enemies are also seeking the ability to sabotage our power grid, our financial institutions, our air-traffic control systems. We cannot look back years from now and wonder why we did nothing in the face of real threats to our security and our economy.”
And again, it would be naive to believe that the U.S. government is not building similar capacity to bring down important computer networks in other countries, just in case it’s needed. In this game, like any other, you need to be able to play offense as well as defense.
To handle such duties, in 2010 the Defense Department created the U.S. CyberCommand, which is now slated for a major expansion. Eighty percent of the thousands of new personnel to be devoted to the effort will be military; 20 percent will be civilian experts. In fact, some of that expanded operation may be headquartered right here in Georgia, at Fort Gordon outside Augusta. That would be a big economic boost to the state, given the potential high-tech spinoffs from such an operation.
In other words, what we’re witnessing is a quiet, high-stakes state of virtual warfare that will be permanent and escalating.

The Chinese already have all our money. They have all our technology because we gave it to them so they could manufacture everything we consume.
They don’t need us anymore.
The only thing that saves us from them zapping us at will is they have no reason to subjugate a population that’s shallow, lazy, ignorant, useless and spends all it’s time/energy/attention watching porn, football, computer games, Honey Boo Boo and collecting/caressing assault weapons.

“But I asked Sinkwich a followup, which he ducked. I’m hoping you’ll address it.
Given your response, are you also ‘fine’ that 47% of Americans pay no federal income tax? Because they shouldn’t pay more than is legally required? Because Congress made the laws and these people are obeying them? You’re fine if a corporation with profits of over a billion a year pays no tax and gets taxpayer assistance, you feel the same when it’s a single mom earning $25,000 a year, right?”
How about it Kayaker? You satisfied on those not paying taxes? Since you made a big fuss out of debbie’s deal with the Koch bros and taxes and all…..

Was just an observation about how some people can’t understand how a majority can’t be in love with the same thing they are. Be it a mom or a politician or an advisor, disconnects happen at all levels. Those who succeed recognize it, modify themselves, then reengage. Those who continue to struggle maintain the belief system everyone else is too dim to see what’s so plain.

Had to step out for a minute! Back now –
Fred: DDR: What’s to be on the fence about? How can you FORCE a woman (or girl) tohave an abortion?
I’m on the fence because:
YES its true that she can’t /shouldn’t be forced to abort however she IS a teenager and the full load of the child she brings into the world, if she decides to keep it, will be on the parents, NOT her.
YES she has the right to have her baby. Freedom of Choice is not just the right to have an abortion but also the right NOT to have an abortion.
NO she’s a minor — she’s not legally able to enter into a contract and in some states, her parents are liable for all her mistakes, (eg: if she breaks the neighbors window her parents would have to pay). Looking at it from that perspective I can see why her parents didn’t want the added burden of a baby.
Babies are expensive. If the family is already under financial strain, the last thing they’d want is an additional strain of providing for another mouth to feed.
NO if she’s “grown enough” to sue her parents, then she should be “grown enough” to take care of that child on her own. WHY should the parents have to pay for her mistakes? She could’ve went to court to become an EMANCIPATED minor, instead she chose to bring up this “They want me to abort” defense. Its as if this whole thing is contrived and she set up her parents to be on the hook for her mistake for years to come.
NO a car and a cell phone is NOT A RIGHT; its a privileged. So what if her parents took them from her? That’s what parents do when they punish you for your bad behavior. And, let’s not get it twisted, what she did was part of irresponsible, and BAD behavior. This is 2013 — even if she knows nothing of / or had no way of getting conventional means of birth control; condoms come 3/pack at every local Quik Trip.
YES I know that once the baby comes, (or rather i HOPE that once the baby comes), the parents minds will change and their “advocating”, (not forcing), for an abortion will be a moot point; however I feel that the daughter intentionally put them in the role of the “bad guy” just to get her way.
I’m trying to get the transcripts of the case soon as it comes out, (It’ll be in FindLaw); then I can be a better judge of each participants’ demeanor and statements; so for now….
………….I’m still on the fence!!

Insofar as China holds a lot of our debt *now* and wouldn’t if they sold the cash flows, it’d make a lot of difference to us. Perhaps not economically, but I feel pretty strongly that China is actually *moderating* its words and behavior in order to continue benefiting from our indebtedness.

Which brings us to the economic level. The deficits that Bush ran up in the years in which the country was teetering on the verge of a serious recession had the beneficial effect of righting the economy. In that sense, deficits not only didn’t matter, but were a force for economic good.

http://www.nationalmemo.com/amid-tightening-senate-polls-georgia-republicans-seek-repeal-of-17th-amendment/#.USZOKQS0ugY.twitter
In the latest example of the GOP’s selective reverence for the Constitution, six Georgia Republicans are trying to end the election of U.S. senators by popular vote — just as a new poll shows that the GOP’s footing in the state’s upcoming Senate election is less secure than previously thought.
The Douglas County Sentinel reports that state representatives Dustin Hightower, Mike Dudgeon, Buzz Brockway, Josh Clark, Kevin Cooke, and Delvis Dutton — all Republicans — have introduced a resolution to repeal the 17th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The 17th Amendment, which was adopted in 1913, mandated that senators be elected by popular vote; before its passage, senators were selected by state legislatures.

I can’t understand why I even expect rational thought from you anymore. Seems like a grown assed man should have the intelligence to match.

was located there and when one took off the warm up and takeoff
would vibrate block buildings a good bit away from the field…

First responders will only be out of work if the sequestor goes through “IF OBAMA CHOOSES THEM TO BE OUT OF WORK”. He gets to pick which things get cut and which don’t based on the actual legislation (that he basically came up with). So when Oblame-a stands before the microphone again, lying through his teeth as he has been doing recently, you’ll know the TRUTH about first responders and their potential for continued employment.

You sure don’t appear to me to be chemically influenced.
BO et al’s most successful skill by far is the ability to deflect blame not matter what the issue. Jay Carney admits the sequester idea was BO’s and administration. Now he is rambling on about the GOP being the problem. All the jobs he is hysterically bullhorning that will alledgedly be lost, is just a method toward his goal…don’t be blamed for anything. His deal. We are talking about such a small fraction of cuts that I can’t see foundation for all the hysteria..except BO deflecting that this was by his design…how could the GOP not go along with it?

okay, who is “he”, “our”, and “your”? Pronouns make sense after using proper nouns. In the absence of proper nouns, pronouns can be rather confusing.

the govt is going broke trying to support you boy.
It s going broke supporting the Southern Red States. They pay little in taxes and receive most of the spending.
The bigger northern economies have always to a certain extent subsidized a decent standard of living in the very poor rural south.
That is why the South has electricity. Federal ( Northern ) dollars.
I dont know if they can do it much longer though.

DDR: The way the law treats abortion these days, if the mom wants an abortion, it’s just some cells. If the mom wants to keep the baby, it’s a life and to take it would be murder. You notice that while abortions are legal, if someone murders a pregnant lady, they get charged with TWO counts of murder, not one.
Not all – certain states do. These states treat the fetus as a child IF the fetus is over a certain amount of weeks, (the same as abortionists do). If the fetus can viably live outside of the womb, then it’s considered a child, hence the murder of the mother is also the murder of the child.
I haven’t seen any cases where there was a death penalty given to someone who killed a mother in her first trimester. Could be out there, but i just haven’t seen it.

GetalifeThey had the 16 year old father on cnn and he wants to have the baby and was shocked her parents decided not to have it. A great episode of 16 and pregnant full of drama.
IMO that’s probably why she got pregnant. Instant stardom if they use you for an episode. However, you know that I have too many cynical bones in my body and her willingness to keep the child could be as she says, because she wants it.

Precedent. How can the “law” force this girl to “murder” her child? It can’t.
State forced abortions. Boy howdy what a brouhaha that would create.

“IMO this and our reliance on borrowed funds are the two most significant security risks we face. Next “war” will not be ground attack..”
And if we confront the Chinese with an ultimatum: “Cease the attacks or we’ll suspend payment on the money owed” how likely is it they won’t pay attention? They can’t “repossess this country and if we announce we refuse to pay, they’ll have a HARD time selling those bonds they’re holding.

Here’s another wrinkle: if they can’t force her to get an abortion, can they force her to put the child up for adoption?

Doesnt it take two sides to make a deal? And didnt the GOP overwhelmingly vote for this? Didnt this happen because the GOP didnt want to raise the debt ceiling? Couldnt the GOP reject the idea if this idea was the Presidents? Havent the GOP objected and rejected everything proposed by this President? Why not this?
