A couple of blogkeeping notes:
– Some of you may have seen the new look and functionality of other AJC blogs, such as Jim Galloway’s Political Insider blog. Sometime in the next few weeks, I’m told, my blog will migrate to the new system as well. (The change is being made to accommodate new software that works better on mobile platforms such as I-Pads, Kindles, etc.)
That means you’ll have a brand new URL to bookmark (all the previous blogs and comments will still be available in archives). It also means that — prepare yourselves — commenters will be required to register in order to post at the new blog. As you can see on Jim’s blog, that doesn’t mean that you have to post under your real identity, but you will have to register an identity to post. I’ll let you know more as I learn more.
– On Monday, Feb. 25, I’ll be delivering what has become my annual “Real State of the Union” speech, followed by Q&A, at Seven Stages Theater in Little Five Points. (Information here). It’s free, and starts at 7 p.m.
However, we usually have a full house, so if you’re interested in coming, you should get tickets ahead of time. The event is sponsored by Women’s Action for New Directions, or WAND, and will also feature the witticisms of my friend Andisheh Nouraee, co-author of “Americapedia: Taking the Dumb Out of Freedom.”

Genetic quads would be born and there would only be one after birth. Most quads are born and there are 4. In this case, there were only 2

I may just make it there. I’ll have the speedos on underneath just in case the kooks can’t control themselves and want to see them. But I’ll wear pants over them to show my discerning good taste. I figure I got about 6,000 laps around the block to do before I look good in a pair of speedos again. Otherwise I’ll be the guy at the front heckling Jay. And yes- I do intend to have some cocktails beforehand since happy hour precedes Kookapalooza 2013 and since it is after all in little 5 points. After each time I heckle Jay I’m going to scream B O O M. You will know Doomy.

I used to remember the odds; IIRC the formula’s something like 1 in 86^n-1 where n = the number of kids in the ‘litter,’ so to speak.
So twins happen roughly 1 in 86 births
Triplets roughly 1 in 86^2
Quads roughly 1 in 86^3
and so on

No to go farther afield, but I seem to recall that the Dionne quintuplets were two pairs of twins, with the fifth possibly having been a twin to a sixth, spontaneously miscarried sibling.

that’s what Wikipedia says, but it also calls them “identical quintuplets” and that can’t be right. If they were identical there would only have been one afterbirth. Just because they were all girls doesn’t make them identical

I did go over to Galloway’s, got my blog name registered, posted over there just to see if it worked. Shouldn’t be any big deal to the regulars here. you can still do sock puppetry, if you like, it’s just a bit of a pain to do so. 20, count em, 20 comments per page. Jay will average 40-50 pages.
Commentor’s name is not on the left in bold, but normal print with all the rest of it.
I find those blogs much less enjoyable to read.
Of course, with this crowd, that may not be the case.

Real Scotter that would be a hoot if you did that. Personally I don’t believe in guns for myself and I’m certainly not a fan of Mr. LaPierre. I will try and find something offensive to wear though just to tick the libs off. Perhaps a t-shirt with a pro-life message. That would really, really, really make them mad. Why I don’t know. Yeah the new system has killed comments on virtually all the blogs. You can’t quote, you can’t post clickable links, they are short, and difficult to read……. the list of crap you can’t do is endless. You would think that the AJC could host a blog that is state of the art, not bottom of the barrel.
