Coming to an America near you!!
I am very, very grateful that I do not live in Wayne LaPierre’s world. Because as described in a new column by the NRA leader, that world is a scary place right out of a Mad Max movie:
“Meanwhile, President Obama is leading this country to financial ruin, borrowing over a trillion dollars a year for phony “stimulus” spending and other payoffs for his political cronies. Nobody knows if or when the fiscal collapse will come, but if the country is broke, there likely won’t be enough money to pay for police protection. And the American people know it.
Hurricanes. Tornadoes. Riots. Terrorists. Gangs. Lone criminals. These are perils we are sure to face—not just maybe. It’s not paranoia to buy a gun. It’s survival. It’s responsible behavior, and it’s time we encourage law-abiding Americans to do just that….
Responsible Americans realize that the world as we know it has changed. We, the American people, clearly see the daunting forces we will undoubtedly face: terrorists, crime, drug gangs, the possibility of Euro-style debt riots, civil unrest or natural disaster.
Since the election, millions of Americans have been lining up in front of gun stores, Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops exercising their freedom while they still have it. They are demonstrating they have a mass determination to buy, own and use firearms. Millions of Americans are using market forces like never before to demonstrate their ardent support for our firearm freedoms. That’s one of the very best ways we can Stand And Fight.”
There’s a quivering, even pornographic quality to LaPierre’s description of the apocalypse that looms ahead. And isn’t it interesting that his recommended solution — BUY MORE GUNS!!! BUY MORE AMMO!!!! PANIC!! – just happens to dovetail with the best interests of his paid masters in the firearms industry.

As he puts it in his closing:
“We will not surrender. We will not appease. We will buy more guns than ever. We will use them for sport and lawful self-defense more than ever. We will grow the NRA more than ever. And we will be prouder than ever to be freedom-loving NRA patriots. And with your help, we will ensure that the Second Amendment remains America’s First Freedom.”

Oh, I think they will–I don’t think their filibustering of Hagel is doing them any long term good whatsoever. But short term, well, these are vain, horrible men who don’t like that a guy who reminds them of their own malfeasance regarding Iraq (and if they were honest, Israel) will be their next DoD secretary.

Where did you get that stat suggesting negligence by healthcare providers kills 700,000 people per year? The number of folks who die every year from errors in treatment (otherwise preventable) is no where near that number. In addition, the calculation of this stat is highly subjective. In 1990, Tim Hyde, RJR Tobacco’s head of national field operations, in an eerily similar description of the Tea Party today, explained why groups like CSE were important to the tobacco industry’s fight against government regulation. Hyde wrote:
“… coalition building should proceed along two tracks: a) a grassroots organizational and largely local track,; b) and a national, intellectual track within the DC-New York corridor. Ultimately, we are talking about a “movement,” a national effort to change the way people think about government’s (and big business) role in our lives. Any such effort requires an intellectual foundation – a set of theoretical and ideological arguments on its behalf.”
Note the distinction between a “grass roots movement”, aka, the tea party and the “intellectual foundation”.

I want to quote the two paragraphs from GHW Bush that I cut from my excerpt, earlier:
John Magaw, who used to head the U.S.S.S. and now heads A.T.F., is one of the most principled, decent men I have ever known. He would be the last to condone the kind of illegal behavior your ugly letter charges. The same is true for the F.B.I.’s able Director Louis Freeh. I appointed Mr. Freeh to the Federal Bench. His integrity and honor are beyond question.
Both John Magaw and Judge Freeh were in office when I was President. They both now serve in the current administration. They both have badges. Neither of them would ever give the government’s “go ahead to harass, intimidate, even murder law abiding citizens.” (Your words)
I wonder if Poppy Bush ever considered purchasing one of these apparel items to express his true feelings?

it’s got nothing to do with intelligence or lack of same. It’s simply an expression of one person’s opinion as to the piece of human scum that is Herr LaPierre. It may be politically incorrect, but so what?
While I do not wish people to shoot other people, I could easily see how it would be more than possible for LaPierre to be shot by a mentally unstable NRA member, or shot and killed while defending himself, or shot and killed with his own weapon. All of these are statistically likely ways for murders to happen.
_______________________________
I think if LaPierre is assaulted, it will be by someone who opposed his position and the NRA. Look at the comments here and else where. When it comes to someone advocating violence re: the gun control issue, it’s usually the pro gun control advocate proposing violence against the anti gun control.

If you plan on carrying a firearm outside of the home for personal protection in Georgia you must be fingerprinted and undergo a background check to be issued a Georgia Firearms License.

Maybe this will help:
As a matter of public policy, the law will not allow a business owner to insure against intentional acts or crimes. The reason is because it is assumed that if this is allowed, then businesses will not take steps to stop such actions or will engage in such acts because the acts are insured. The law presumes business owners will treat this as a cost of doing business rather than taking steps to stop the event from occurring. In fact, most states allow insurance only for fortuitous events – events that are “accidents.”
It is a complicated and most litigated act for insurance purposes. In cases of vicarious criminal liability, say an employee intentionally kills a patron, the entity will have coverage to the extent that they did a poor job hiring or otherwise created an environment ripe for the killing, but the perpetrator will not be covered for damages caused.

ROFL. Must have hit a nerve. Why don’t you go back to commenting upon Rubio’s “career ending” awkward reach for a bottle of water (instead of, you know, actually evaluating the content of his address)?

Drudgey spam has been mentioned at least a dozen times now in this ridiculous blog. It’s sad that libs simply won’t face or don’t understand reality. Drudge posts news articles from legitimate news sources. Just because its an article of fact that makes obama or any dem look bad they ignore it.. What a sad lot….

TBG: People misuse items all the time. Ever use a butter knife on a screw? Ever use your cell phone as a light at night?
OK, while I see your point that people misuse things, your examples aren’t exactly “misuse.”
And no, you didn’t say exactly what I was asking questions about, hence why I was asking questions. I didn’t say you said those things. But you say very little.
Yes, people misuse firearms. However, firearms are pretty dangerous even if a “good guy” has them. The fact that some people use guns “correctly,” which I assume means for defense or hunting, does not excuse a blaise attitude about making it EASY for people to MISUSE weapons, first of all by making it easy for them to be acquired and secondly by creating versions of the weapons that are more efficient (and btw, ICYMI, you were wrong about the other items I listed in a previous thread being more or equally as efficient as a gun. Guns win that one hands down, otherwise we’d be claiming those items for self defense and hunting).
Just because most people properly use a staircase does not mean we should not install guard rails to help reduce the chance of accidental or intentional misuse (i.e. falling down the stairs, tripping, being knocked down by another, etc). The same is true for guns. Just because a lot of people “use them properly,” does not mean they should be a free and clear easy to get and easy to use item readily available to everyone. They are dangerous, much more so than a knife or a bat or a car etc etc.
Deliberate murders are, year by year, perpetuated using firearms about 2/3 of the time. That’s 2 out of every 3 instances. Guns make it easy. And there is no evidence to support the idea that a lack of guns increases the violent crime rate unless you cherry pick. If it were true, it would be true EVERYWHERE and more guns would equal less crime EVERYWHERE. And as it turns out, there are quite a few places in which this is not the case.
Now, I’m not saying we should ban all the guns, but I am saying it isn’t a straight up invitation to criminals if we do.

The common public understanding of the origins of the Tea Party is that it is a popular grassroots uprising that began with anti-tax protests in 2009.
However, the study reveals that in 2002, the Kochs and tobacco-backed CSE designed and made public the first Tea Party Movement website under the web address http://www.usteaparty.com. Here’s a screenshot of the archived U.S. Tea Party site, as it appeared online on Sept. 13, 2002:
