Coming to an America near you!!
I am very, very grateful that I do not live in Wayne LaPierre’s world. Because as described in a new column by the NRA leader, that world is a scary place right out of a Mad Max movie:
“Meanwhile, President Obama is leading this country to financial ruin, borrowing over a trillion dollars a year for phony “stimulus” spending and other payoffs for his political cronies. Nobody knows if or when the fiscal collapse will come, but if the country is broke, there likely won’t be enough money to pay for police protection. And the American people know it.
Hurricanes. Tornadoes. Riots. Terrorists. Gangs. Lone criminals. These are perils we are sure to face—not just maybe. It’s not paranoia to buy a gun. It’s survival. It’s responsible behavior, and it’s time we encourage law-abiding Americans to do just that….
Responsible Americans realize that the world as we know it has changed. We, the American people, clearly see the daunting forces we will undoubtedly face: terrorists, crime, drug gangs, the possibility of Euro-style debt riots, civil unrest or natural disaster.
Since the election, millions of Americans have been lining up in front of gun stores, Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops exercising their freedom while they still have it. They are demonstrating they have a mass determination to buy, own and use firearms. Millions of Americans are using market forces like never before to demonstrate their ardent support for our firearm freedoms. That’s one of the very best ways we can Stand And Fight.”
There’s a quivering, even pornographic quality to LaPierre’s description of the apocalypse that looms ahead. And isn’t it interesting that his recommended solution — BUY MORE GUNS!!! BUY MORE AMMO!!!! PANIC!! – just happens to dovetail with the best interests of his paid masters in the firearms industry.

As he puts it in his closing:
“We will not surrender. We will not appease. We will buy more guns than ever. We will use them for sport and lawful self-defense more than ever. We will grow the NRA more than ever. And we will be prouder than ever to be freedom-loving NRA patriots. And with your help, we will ensure that the Second Amendment remains America’s First Freedom.”

Ahh…more hate…but what about the REAL problem..Society..the young girl killed in Chicago was by a GANG member who was turned back on the street for a second time by the judical system..and to think, Chicago has some of the toughest gun laws in the country. But then you can look at the slum where Barry practice community organizing and find it is worse condition than before he even showed up on the scene…no refinement there..wonder why Barry did not imoprove their lot..
Perhaps cuting class war fare, hate speech such as this blog, cutting it is not my fault a someone owes me something and putting Respect, Accountability and yes GOD back into every day lives may just impriove the ills of society..but wait..if I am black it must be racisim…there n lies the problem – it ain’t my fault and someone owes me!!!

Getting beyond the knee jerk reactions. It really doesn’t matter to me what kind of background check you have to go through. I say this because I would pass any background check that existed. But, I am not the one using a firearm in the commission of a crime. Putting law abiding citizens, like me, through hoops will only affect me. It will have no impact whatsover on the core problem which is gun violence. Targeting individuals that will comply with all the laws is easy, but completely ineffective.

Some of you guys are seriously mixing up correlation and causation.
The NRA and LaPierre have not created or caused anything. They are merely a result of a large constituency.
Its not popular to say, or admit, but the 2A movement is as grass-roots as anything else out there. And its supporters are voting with their wallets every single day spending hundreds and thousands of dollars on firearms and ammunition.
If you look at the amount of money that has been spent on firearms it is staggering. In January there were nearly 2 Million background checks performed. Even if we only assume half of those went through and a firearm was sold that is still a million firearms. If you conservatively set the average transaction price at $500 each, Americans spent $500,000,000 on firearms in a single month this year. Now consider that Obama raised only $750,000,000 for his entire presidential campaign(this is across multiple YEARS of campaigning).
Like it or not the public is voting with its wallet.

You’re right. There are a lot of guns out there. Many owned by law abiding citizens who will never do more than hunt. Many are not semi-assault rifles and are properly owned. Over time, a good number will be destroyed or sold at buy-backs. It’s not an overnight solution. It will take time.

Banner123,
The NRA is and has been an advocate for background checks. Their point is that people found to be fraudulently attempting to obtain firearms who’re in the existing database of those who cannot legally possess firearms are mostly not prosecuted. Also there’s government resistance to including those who’re mentally unfit or those who have a history of violent domestic behavior. They say if these issues are properly addressed they would support universal background checks.

Kamchak,
that’s not a lie. It’s a fact. The right isn’t fighting for minors to be able to get abortions without parental consent. Several states allow it and it’s certainly the left fighting for it.

“Just don’t y’all be surprised when Sir LaPierre starts promoting the idea of “smart bombs in every home!” Now that’s a real sport for some people, too, yes???”
Ahhh, yes…those darn slippery slopes

Even George W. Bush dropped his membership in the NRA over the tone of their remarks. Just read the local letters to the editor and we see this paranoi is widespread.

Never In The Middle– I don’t think anyone is arguing against the 2nd Amendment here. What we’re talking about is the restriction on types of weapons and ammo used, like military equipment etc. Are you promoting the idea of tanks and bombs and chemical weapons being included in the interpretation of the 2nd Amendment? Where do you draw a line in what our Founding Fathers imagined for “the right to bear arms” other than using rifles and musket-guns???
Just wonderin’ how bat Shi-ite crazy you are…

Now, how much are you willing to spend – on a per head basis – to produce and distribute a national ID that can be used for not only voting, but to address the illegal alien issue as well?
Voting is a states issue and any identification required by the states should be an ID of their choosing. I do not suport a national database for gun purchases.

I guess the next step is merchandising shoulder-fired missiles to the masses.
And you would guess wrong. Their next step may be manufacturing and selling of jerked knee replacements, because we are going to need a lot of those.

that’s not a lie. It’s a fact.
In that case you should have no problem documenting, the “same people complaining about no background checks for gun purchases (which I don’t have a huge issue with) are the sames ones who want minor children to be able to get abortions without parental permission” and please show your work – that means specific people
Thanks in advance.

They are also the same people that declare showing an ID to vote constitutes a Poll tax and the right to vote for president is not guaranteed like the 2nd amendment is.

Please review this video and take some “snap shots” of this lady so you can post a photo of her looking at her worst and then do a caricature of her as Elmer Fudd.
Thank you.
