“We’ve got to stop being the stupid party. It’s time for a new Republican Party that talks like adults. We had a number of Republicans damage the brand this year with offensive and bizarre comments. I’m here to say we’ve had enough of that.”
– Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal,
in a speech to the Republican National Committee
————————————————————-
“I’ll tell you this right now: If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year. Why are you laughing? Do you think that’s funny? That’s not funny at all. I’m serious as a heart attack….
“… it isn’t the enemy that ruined America. It’s good people who bent over and let the enemy in. If the coyote’s in your living room, pissing on your couch, it’s not the coyote’s fault. It’s your fault for not shooting him. So, it’s an important time. So, you’re talking about exhibits, you’re talking about hardware and ammo and everyone’s fondling sporting goods and everybody’s got a big old sexy grin on their face ’cause they’re surrounded by ballistic celebration — that’s cool. But what I feel in this room, is I feel this: I’m not taking this crap anymore.”
– Ted Nugent, NRA board member, gun enthusiast and ex-rock star, speaking to the NRA convention in April, shortly before a visit from the Secret Service
—————————————————————————–
WASHINGTON – Musician and gun advocate Ted Nugent will be Congressman Steve Stockman’s guest at Tuesday evening’s State of the Union Address by President Barack Obama. Nugent will be available to speak to the media before and after the Address.
“I am excited to have a patriot like Ted Nugent joining me in the House Chamber to hear from President Obama,” said Stockman. “After the Address I’m sure Ted will have plenty to say.”
To schedule an interview with Nugent, contact Senior Communications Advisor Donny.Ferguson@mail.house.gov.
– A press release issued Monday by Stockman’s congressional office.
The optics are not hard to predict. At some point in tonight’s State of the Union address, President Obama will bring up the tragedy in Newtown in which 20 young children were murdered. The cameras will pan to a Newtown teacher who survived the mass shooting, or to the first two Newtown police officers to arrive at that horrific scene, or to other invited guests linked to that tragedy. And then they will pan to Nugent and Stockman, asking the viewers an implied question: Which side are you on?
So no, Jindal’s plea notwithstanding, the GOP apparently is not ready to stop being the stupid party.
To be fair, a lot of Republican leaders must understand just how stupid it is to allow Nugent to become the personification of their party’s policy on gun control, especially in counterpoint to the victims of Newtown. They have to recognize that while the Motor City Moron’s presence at such an august event may thrill the hard-core gun crowd, serving as the equivalent of a very public middle finger extended in the direction of the president, it does not help a party trying to shed its extremist image.
Yet to date, I have seen no elected Republican official or party leader dare to say that publicly. I have seen no criticism, implied or otherwise, of Stockman’s decision. I have seen no attempt to put distance between Nugent and the party. I do not believe that would be the case if the situation were reversed, if a Democratic congressman had shown the extreme bad judgment of inviting a rapper who had strongly implied violence against a Republican president.
That silence doesn’t mean that Republican leaders necessarily endorse Stockman’s move or Nugent’s antics. However, it does mean that they lack the political courage and judgment to confront those destructive elements in their own party and to try to distance themselves from it. As a result, their political fortunes will continue to suffer.

So what’s the suggestion- that Nugent and Stockman support massacring children? Or that they believe that had the teachers been armed themselves that they could have stopped the madman dead in his tracks?
And so for the 27th time kd I’ll ask my usual question and wait for a credible answer. After the Newtown massacre a number of new gun law proposals were made. Specifically how would any of these new proposals stopped the Newtown massacre had they been law before the massacre? Let’s see if they can give me a good answer on the 27th time kd.

Then two weeks before, I stopped eating any food with nutritional value. I just had chips, Pepsi, beer – stuff I never touched – … little jars of Polish sausages, and I’d drink the syrup, I was this side of death, Then a week before, I stopped going to the bathroom. O’Reilly had a great idea on Letterman last night. Federalize gun registration and gun crime.
The registration would make it easier for law enforcement to identify the legal guns. Possession of an illegal gun: minimum 10 years in a Federal pen. Legal gun owners should jump at this. It verifies their “God given” right to own. It also give all law enforcement the ability to send a gang banger with an illegal g to jail.
Any gun crime, with a legal or illegal gun, 10 yrs minimum in a Federal prison. No exceptions. No early parole.
O’Reilly and I think this would impact gun crime while allowing the people that have to have a legal AR-15 to do so.

“I do not believe that would be the case if the situation were reversed, if a Democratic congressman had shown the extreme bad judgment of inviting a rapper who had strongly implied violence against a Republican president”
Implicit political violence, here in the form of indulging fantasies of acting that violence out in unscrupulous individuals, is one more step in a move towards some sort of soft fascism, a state that we may already have arrived at.
Putting aside the partisan angle for a moment, this is of a piece with a general desensitization towards violence in the population at large, as discussed yesterday in connection with films like “Zero Dark Thirty”, which may very well encourage some individuals to accommodate themselves to violence in the name of larger political ends. The Nugent invitation encourages and furthers that trend.

First, I did not vote Republican at all in the last election but the comment seems little over the top. One congress man is inviting someone who is fighting deporation. What bothers me more? People being invited to the state of the union who are not legal resident or a nut job rock star. Both sides are just patronizing people to get votes. There are allot of American citizens who would love the opportunity to go to such an event. To be beat out by rock star because he loves guns is annoying but to beat out by someone who is not here legally is a whole new ball game.

“However, manic depression, schizophrenia, hallucinations, delusions, bi-polar disorder, ocd, ptsd
are pretty damn good reasons to keep folks away from guns.”
Granny,
I’ve no problem with that and I think most of the people in that group are already prohibited from owning guns. I have a customer who has one of those conditions but cannot own a gun because of it. And while I don’t think he should have one he does live in very low income housing. The gang ringleader a few doors down and his buddies tried busting down his door one night. Sucks for him but he’s just a victim waiting to happen.

The GOP gets stupider and stupider. Nugent admits (without a trace of humility, however) to being a serial pedophile. Two relationships (one with his wife and one with “muse” Pele Massa, who was 17 when they started dating) were ended due to Ted’s infidelity while on the road, often with underage women. But Ted justifies his behavior with one of his trademark so-called funny expressions: “alternative flesh management.” The guy is a scumbag, draft dodger, and a buffoon. Is this the face the GOP wants to put forward? Obviously, they learned nothing form the election.

Mangler,
More liberal ASSumptions again. As I’ve stated numerous times I’ve never owned a gun and probably never will. And if I ever do buy a gun it would just be either a hunting rifle or a very small caliber rifle for shooting bottles or cans on my land out here in the country. I don’t much believe in guns- not for me anyway and I’ll certainly never own a handgun. But that doesn’t mean I don’t believe others should have their 2nd amendment rights protected.

These SOTU speeches are pretty much unwatchable anyway, with all the applause breaks. I really wish that both sides would sit down/shut up unless they hear something that is genuinely moving/righteous.
Problem is, neither side can ever allow themselves to be one-upped by the other side on the perceived righteousness scale.

I agree completely that someone like Nugent should not be invited to support the Second Amendment rights we were granted under the Constitution (an not so we could go hunting, I might add). If the Pub/Cons were going to fight fire with fire, which I do not advocate doing either, then much better to invite someone like the woman who recently hid in her attic with her children, scared out of her wits, but had enough presence of mind to shoot the intruder, who would have done who knows what had she not been armed. And there are many other people with similar stories.
But, I would not do it, because political exploitation is exploitation no matter how you cut it, and exploitation rarely leads to good political process or solutions. Ergo, I think that it is also very wrong that the Prez is bringing Newtown victims/heroes to the State of the Union address. You did not mention anything children being brought in, but some accounts say that they will be. And if so, that is the most despicable kind of political exploitation. If children are brought in, I will be looking forward to you column condemning it in no uncertain terms. If you don’t, then perhaps you will withdraw your comments about Nugent being there as being completely hypocritical.

Granny Godzilla,
We have some common ground on the mentally ill issue. I think its only rational to do whatever we can reasonably do to keep guns from the mentally ill.
The problem I see is that there are millions of legal gun owners who have kids with mild mental illness such as mild depression, anxiety, etc. And for the most part those guns are kept out of the hands of the kids except in these extreme cases like Newtown.
I just don’t think you can legally exclude an adult from owning guns because of a child with a mental illness- especially a mild mental illness like mild depression. And therein lies the problem.

FWIW, the Nuge doesn’t really bother me all that much. He was a blowhard 35 years ago when he was making mediocre hard rock, lecturing his fan base about drugs and basically talking smack to any media guy/gal who’d listen. (I mentioned some time back in these pages, that there’s a cover of Creem magazine where he’s quoted as claiming “I killed two men!”, although oddly enough the printed article, if memory serves, didn’t quite say that.)
That he’s still trying to make a buck by being his usual annoying self in 2013 isn’t exactly surprising.
I’ve actually read enough of his interviews (they’re kind of hard to avoid if you scan the kind of rock-music-press stuff that’s been part of my intellectual diet for way too many years) to find a lot of his schtick somewhat endearing, actually. As a bow hunter, he obviously has a respect for the need for wildlife conservation, and eats what he kills. And I seem to recall he came around to actually liking cats. So there’s that.

naw, he only did it for a few years…
“To understand the State of the Union, we must look not only at where we are and where we’re going but where we’ve been. The situation at this time last year was truly ominous.”
…
“In the last six months of 1980, as an example, the money supply increased at the fastest rate in postwar history 13 percent. Inflation remained in double digits and Government spending increased at an annual rate of 17 percent. Interest rates reached a s taggering 21 1/2 percent. There were eight million unemployed.”
…
“First, we must understand what’s happening at the moment to the economy. Our current problems are not the product of the recovery program that’s only just now getting under way, as some would have you believe; they are the inheritance of decades of tax and tax, and spend”
…
“Now the budget deficit this year will exceed our earlier expectations. The recession did that. It lowered revenues and increased costs.”

This always cracks me up. Two decades ago Obama’s policies would have labeled him a moderate Republican, but given the fact there is no such thing as a moderate Republican anymore I suppose it is no surprise Obama is a Democrat. The fact that there are those who call his moderate right policies “far left” illustrates how far off the cliff the GOP has gone.

“First, I did not vote Republican at all in the last election but the comment seems little over the top.”
Why not? You defend them around here every chance you get. Anyone that says its the article that is over the top in this case is not giving the moderate line.
++++
I don’t vote Republican for several reasons. 1) I believe in unvirseal health care 2) I don’t think entitlement programs will every be cut enough not to raise taxes. 3) I believe in reducing the defense budget. 4) I do not support the right to own assualt weapons. 5) I did not think the war in Iraq is justified.
Whether it is over the top or not is a matter of opinion and that opinion is largely shaped by partisanship. Also, whether it is moderate or not is a matter of opinion largely shaped by partisanship.
I do not “defend them around here every chance you get”. What I do is questions peoples statements and ask to prove their statements. Since Jay is a partisan Democrat it would only seem logical if I am questioning the validity of statements most of the the statements I would question would be partisan Democrat.
If we disagree on whether it is over the top then we disagree. If the left wants to win the argument on gun control I think they should stick to the facts and sound logic instead degenerating people by calling them stupid. Many people argue that the order of the Bill Rights is a justification for gun control because they were grouped based on individual rights then states rights. I link to a Salon.com page which show this to be incorrect. Was this defending Republicans?

The killings by the thugs and TRASH in Chicago are what they are. The rocket-scientist that shot that poor girl was nothing but the scum (smegma) of the earth. That is not a liberal, conservative, or independent statement. It is a fact. And before somebody says “How do you know him” rest assured, I did not know Jeffrey Dahmer, either, but I know that he was scum. Gun control laws have worked well up there, have thay not? Nugent may rant and rave, but he couldn’t kill as many folks as the thugs in Chicago have if he nuked a place. I’m so tired of the Al Sharptons having no solutions, and not wanting to enforce anything up there due to “discrimination” factors, etc. Leave race out of it, and likewise try to solve a problem instead of ranting about guns. How does anyone propose keeping guns out of the hands of these trash-bags up there….new laws? Good night above…..these folks do not respect life anyway, so wtf will a new law mean? Mass shootings, like colorodo, Sandyhook etc. are awful, but you can add up all the numbers and cannot get a good start on the mess that goes on in Chicago, Philadelphia, etc. on a daily basis. New lawas will never have an effect on folks (a very liberal use of the term) like these. The Sandyhook shooter, the colorodo shooter, and others like that are psycopathic loons. The gangs, etc. in Chicago are just cold-blooded killers.

Is the Putnam Country Sheriff a patriot ??
Hon. Saxby Chambliss
United States Senate
416 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510
Dear Senator Chambliss,
I write you today at a point in my life where I have grave concerns about the future of our nation. Come this April, I will begin my 40th year in the field of public safety. I have been very fortunate in my career to have worked in almost every aspect of law enforcement, both in rural and urban areas, along with a stint in corporate security for one of the largest banks in the country. I have just been reelected to my fifth term of office, and I serve as the Director of my county’s Emergency Management Agency. I am also the President of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association, but this letter is written from me individually as the Sheriff of Putnam County and in my capacity as an American citizen.
The recent incident where children and staff were murdered by a deranged individual at the school in Newtown, Connecticut and the many similar incidents that have occurred in the past are horrific tragedies, and they most assuredly warrant measures and policies to prevent such acts in the future. While I may have never had personal experience with an incident of mass murder, I have unfortunately responded to and investigated untold numbers of assaults and murders during my long career. All of those incidents were also tragic and often senseless, but I know that firearms were not the cause of these crimes.
Erroneously, the national media immediately focused on guns as the cause of the crimes at Sandy Hook. In addition, from much of what I have heard and read, it appears Congress seems to be going in that same direction. This is what precipitated my fears for the country. In my county, and in every community where I have served as a police officer, I have found the most patriotic responsible citizens are those who own firearms. These people are the first to stand at attention and pledge allegiance to our flag, the first to bow their heads in prayer, the first to pay their taxes, and the first in line to vote on Election Day. They know the 2nd Amendment of our Constitution, and they know that their right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed upon.
I expect my citizens to defend themselves from harm until we arrive on the scene, and I have a sense of comfort in knowing the vast majority of them are well armed and have the ability to protect themselves. I also find great solace in the fact that they have the ability to come to the aid of me and my deputies should some circumstance warrant it.
It is very clear to me that the public has little faith in most of its elected officials at the present time. Polls related to confidence in Congress glaringly reflect this, and I believe the same attitude trickles down even to the local level. Should Congress enact laws that ban, or even require the registration of firearms, it WILL NOT keep guns out of the hands of criminals. The end result of such legislation will make criminals out of our best citizens, as I am absolutely certain that the vast majority of Georgians WILL NOT surrender any of their firearms, magazines, or ammunition, nor will they comply with any law that mandates they register their weapons with any entity of government.
The functionality of our government is completely dependent upon the majority voluntarily abiding by the law. It is my greatest fear that legislation banning or requiring the registration of guns the public can now legally posses will force our best citizens to a precipice where they will turn their backs to the law. Beyond that point, there will only be a slippery slope where only more laws will be ignored and not complied with.
I find it absolutely incredulous that there seems to be little discussion about the real issues that are at the root of people who commit crimes with firearms. Although a general decline in morality coupled with an insatiable appetite for illicit drugs are contributing factors, I believe the primary causal components of most violent crimes are a combination of mental health issues and our failure to prosecute, punish, and keep recidivist criminals in confinement.
When it comes to mentally deranged people, the State of Georgia has simply abandoned its responsibility to protect them or the public they endanger. I can explain the mental health problem in three sentences. When I went away to college some forty years ago there were about 4 and a half million people living in Georgia and there were 17,000 people institutionalized at Central State Hospital in Milledgeville. Today there are 10 million people in Georgia and there is virtually no one confined in Central State. The sheriffs of Georgia have evolved into being the largest providers of mental health services in the state as a significant proportion of the inmates in our jails suffer from a myriad of mental problems. This shouldn’t be our duty, and it is something we are not equipped nor funded for.
As for the failure to appropriately deal with recidivist criminals, I will offer you just a few recent examples. On December 17, 2012 a young Clayton County Police Officer named Sean Callahan was murdered in the line of duty as he responded to a domestic disturbance call. Tremaine Lebis, the hoodlum who murdered Officer Callahan, was out of prison on parole at the time of the crime. He, of course, had several weapons in his possession (including a so-called dreaded “Assault Rifle”) and had been released from prison early after being convicted of Aggravated Assault in Gwinnett County in 1992 where he brutally shot a man in the head with a handgun. He got 20 years to serve for that crime and escaped while in a prison in Baldwin County in 1995. He got three more years for the Escape charge in Baldwin and was paroled in May 2008. He was to remain under sup ervision of Parole until April 2016.
Lebis was arrested, yet again, in Henry County for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and some other charge in April 2011. He pleaded guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and False Report of a Crime in November 2011. I don’t know what kind of sentence he received for that conviction, but the Clayton News Daily said he was given credit for time served since May 26, 2011. Nonetheless, Lebis was released on parole yet again on May 21, 2012. His next appearance at the rodeo of crime resulted in the murder of Officer Callahan. If Lebis had not been released on parole in May 2008, Officer Callahan would still be alive. If Lebis had not been released on parole AGAIN in May 2012, Officer Callahan would still be alive. It was already a violation of both state and federal law for Lebis to possess any type of firearm long before he murdered Officer Callahan.
Seven days after the murder of Officer Callahan, an individual named William Spengler shot four firefighters, murdering two of them, in Webster, New York. It now appears he may have also murdered his sister and been responsible for burning seven houses in his neighborhood. He, too, was a convicted felon and had previously served a whopping 17 years in prison for beating his own grandmother to death with a hammer. Again, it was already a violation of both state and federal law for Spengler to possess any type of firearm when he shot and killed the firefighters.
Three days ago Atlanta Police Officer Reggie Robinson was shot in the face while he investigated a complaint regarding illicit drug dealing. The individual who shot him was 20 year old Frank Emmitt Nance. Nance had a pending case of Battery against him from an arrest in April 2012 and was also on probation after being convicted of Aggravated Assault, Terroristic Threats, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon in Fulton County on January 10, 2012. Nance had been released from state prison on March 28, 2011 after completing an arduous 8 months of incarceration from a previous conviction for Burglary, Theft by Taking, and, of course, yet another count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Yet again, it was already a violation of both state and federal law for Nance to possess any type of firearm when he shot Officer Robinson.
You might think that the three aforementioned examples are exceptions, but I must unfortunately tell you that similar cases are routine and prolific all over Georgia and throughout the nation. The media very rarely even makes mention of a criminal’s previous arrest record. Last year our General Assembly rammed through legislation that they called “Criminal Justice Reform”. In reality it was nothing more than a statutory degradation of morality, as its primary component did nothing more than change a litany of felony crimes, making them misdemeanors and shifting the burden of cost from the state government back to the counties.
Governor Deal touted that it was simply too expensive to keep criminals in prison because we were mad at them. I believe we should be nothing less than furious with recidivist criminals. The emotional and financial expenses that victims and others are left with in the wake of their incessant pernicious voyages far exceeds the cost of keeping the savages caged and away from society.
Senator, we have a plethora of laws already in existence that can effectively deal with the unlawful possession and use of firearms of any kind by criminals. I would support any legislation that mandated a sure, swift, and severe penalty for any criminal possession and use of a gun, but I will not support, aid, enforce, nor condone, any effort or legislation that will infringe upon the right of a law abiding citizen’s right to bear firearms. You took the same oath as I did, and it was to support and defend our Constitution. I implore you to do so at this crucial point in time.
Sincerely,
Howard R. Sills

“And so for the 27th time kd I’ll ask my usual question and wait for a credible answer. After the Newtown massacre a number of new gun law proposals were made. Specifically how would any of these new proposals stopped the Newtown massacre had they been law before the massacre?”
That strikes me like asking would wearing seatbelts have prevented the driver’s death in a pickup truck that rolled and crushed the roof. Answer is, they wouldn’t. So the solution wasn’t to not institute the seat belt rules. It was to strengthen roof standards for pickups.
So thanks for noting there’s not a one-to-one relationship between the President’s proposals and preventing another Newtown.
So the answer is to require steps that would have prevented Newtown.
But I’d guess if he’d proposed requiring biometric palm scanners to lock out unauthorized uses, there’d be a lot more screaming than what we’ve already heard.
So the gun lobby isn’t interested in real gun control for lawful purposes.

I have stated before and I will state again – This is NOT about the 2nd amendment. We have the right to bear arms – just not the kind that are used for war. The particular weapons used in these mass murders are those that are only used to shoot as many bullets as possible in as short of time as possible. Just imagine, the idiot going into the school with a weapon he had to reload after a few bullets were fired. How many children would have been saved then? Just imagine.
How many people in a theatre would have been saved if the shooter had to reload. Just imagine.
Why can’t we have a logical conversation about the types of weapons vs. the 2nd amendment. There is a reason you cannot own a grenade launcher. Think people.

What the heck, the wheels have come off the thread anyway. Herewith my gratuitous copy/paste, and it’s kinda/sorta on topic!
The SOTU of our dreams
My fellow Americans, we cannot tackle our nation’s deepest problems until we tackle its biggest current problem. And that problem is that too many men and women who want to work cannot.
When Americans are out of work, they cannot support their families or invest in their futures. Young people move home and struggle under student debt. Older Americans leave the workforce for good, often without health care or adequate savings for retirement. The longer workers are out of a job, the harder it is for them to get back on their feet. And the harder it is for our nation to get back on its feet. When jobs are plentiful, wages rise. When jobs are plentiful, people invest in skills. When jobs are plentiful, the ladder of advancement is scalable. When jobs are plentiful, we are able to honor the sacred commitments we have made to the security and advancement of the American people.
Some say we cannot afford to get Americans back to work. They are wrong. If our economy were running at full speed, we wouldn’t have a budget problem. As the experience of our great ally across the Atlantic, Britain shows, trying to slash the budget now will only make the jobs problem — and our budget challenges — worse. We know this, experience has shown it. The United States has recovered more quickly than Europe because we have understood that the budget isn’t just a line of numbers. It is a set of priorities, for today and for the future. And our top priority must be getting Americans back to work.
That is why I am calling on Congress to spur job creation through large-scale investment in our nation’s productive capacity. This is not just about helping those who are struggling; it is about our future, our children’s future, our planet’s future. In a global knowledge economy, we need more than ever to bolster our competitive standing. We need to invest in roads and bridges, in broadband available to all, in our elementary and high schools and community colleges. We need to invest in clean energy and green technology to head off the threat of global warming. And we need to step up our investments in research and development and science — to provide the seed corn for the next entrepreneurial harvest.
The road back from the crisis that Wall Street helped create is a long one. And yes, we are moving down that road at last. Last year, our economy added over 2 million jobs. But we must speed up our pace. At the current rate of job creation, it will be almost a decade before we return to the employment levels that prevailed before the crisis.
We cannot wait that long.

I am told they are afraid of class warfare, on the phone this morning with a man from California looking to sell his yacht and head underground to a bunker and live. 68 year old millionaire who does not fear overseas invasion, but domestic uprising, stirred up by listening to brain dead pundits.
They may shake you up a little till you understand you share this country with other people than yourselves, but no one wants any less than what you have and class warfare is not the way to move to Buckhead. Better time could and will be spent stopping the heavy weight corruption on Wall Street, unload the loaded dice they are playing with and let the best play the game not the most convenient or the club. Let em win or get out of the way, stop sustaining a non competitive way of life.

Did someone say “deficit”?
Which brings us to the economic level. The deficits that Bush ran up in the years in which the country was teetering on the verge of a serious recession had the beneficial effect of righting the economy. In that sense, deficits not only didn’t matter, but were a force for economic good.

I think there’d be a decent chance. In the future. We’d hear outcries of throttling business profits and too much regulation. Plus there’d be the problem (overlooked by many who cite truly socialized models) that nearly everyone – no matter the income level, pays, oftentimes with little or no subsidies. But as far as really fitting the situation we have here it sounds a better fit than most of the other proposals I’ve heard.

Nope, not really. You see Thulsa, despite your blustering you are really ignorant on the subject. Japan was controlled by their businesses. The Gov’t propped up many of them, not unlike the way France does, with Airbus. They enacted anti competition laws so that foreign goods were not allowed to compete with domestic goods. It’s more complex than that but you have shown you know so little that I don’t want to overwhelm you.
And for another Japan tried stimulus many times during their lost decade and similar to us right now had essentially flat growth with nothing but new debt to show for it. And their still doing it- and still failing at it. Educate yourself Fred. I don’t have time to tutor you all day.
No they didn’t. The whole economic model of Japan was based upon the price per square foot of property in Tokyo. It was a false model and over inflated. It was a house of cards and everyone there pretended that the emperor infact DID have clothes (literary reference, get someone to explain it to you, I don;t know small enough words to get through to you). In some 2001 statistics, it is noted that there are about 420,000 assault rifles (fully automatic, or “selective fire”) stored at private homes, mostly SIG SG 550 models. Additionally, there are some 320,000 semi-auto rifles and military pistols exempted from military service in private possession, all selective-fire weapons having been converted to semi-automatic operation only. In addition, there are several hundred thousand other semi-automatic small arms classified as carbines. The total number of firearms in private homes is estimated minimally at 1.2 million to 3 million
Government statistics for the year 2010[15] records 40 homicides involving firearms, out of the 53 cases of homicide in 2010.

Really? When Rome crushed them they did a good damn job. Please tell me what Greece hads contributed to the world in the last 2000 years. And don’t give me the crap they did BEFORE that.
Give me something. I may have missed something. I know they export olive oil, yak dung, and a crap load of Greek Immigrants to the US, but what USEFUL have they done.

Your point is not well taken because of the hypocrisy of the left and that includes you. I never heard you condemn any left wing person criticize George Bush during the years he was president. Take Benghazi as an example. No demands from the Democrats or the left to get to the truth on what happened and why we were not prepared to deal with it. The Administration thought the American public were stupid enough to swallow the line that “it was just a protest.” Not everyone in the country drinks the kool aid that this administration pours out on a daily basis. You could broaden your perspective if you quit drinking it on a daily basis.

You folks act as if Ted Nugent speaks for the entire pub party. He holds no public office and was invited by Stockman…not by the Republican party. On the other hand, the representatives of the dems include Nancy Pelosi, “We avow the First Amendment. We stand with that and say that people have a right to have a gun to protect themselves in their homes and their jobs, where ever, and that they–and their workplace–and that they, for recreation for hunting and the rest.” The FIRST Amendment….SAY WHAT? And, let’s not forget the man who is a heart beat away from being President…”Folks, I can tell you I’ve known eight presidents, three of them intimately.” –Joe Biden, Aug. 22, 2012 6. “You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent…. I’m not joking.” –Joe Biden, in a private remark to an Indian-American man caught on C-SPAN, June, 2006
And, Nugent may be attending with Stockman, but, how about this? Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) will be attending Tuesday’s State of the Union address with Gabino Sanchez, an illegal immigrant who has received, according to Gutierrez’s office, “multiple misdemeanor charges for driving without a license by local police over the past ten years.” Yeah, it’s just the pubs that need to stop being stupid!
All the while,
President Barack Obama will deliver his State of the Union address on Tuesday to a nation that disapproves of the way he is handling nearly every issue, including gun control and the federal deficit.
According to a Gallup poll, 42% of Americans approve of Obama’s gun policies while 54% disapprove.
On taxes, 41% approve and 57% disapprove. On the economy, 39% approve and 60% disapprove. On “the situation in the Middle East between the Israelis and the Palestinians,” 36% approve and 55% disapprove.
And on the federal budget deficit, 31% approve and 65% disapprove.

North Korea is an example where direct, tough diplomacy that lays out clear choices to rogue regimes for good and bad behavior can lead to change. When the United States was engaged, the pace of Pyongyang’s development of nuclear weapons was slowed; when we were not, it quickened. While there has been some promising progress, it’s important that all of North Korea’s claims are verified. If they are not, we should move quickly to reimpose sanctions that have been waived, and consider new restrictions going forward. As President, Barack Obama will work with diligence and determination with our friends and allied to end the threat of North Korea and to secure a lasting peace on the Korean peninsula. They are what they are, and they will continue to dig their hole into obscurity as the rest of the nation and world continues to evolve. Conservatives are increasingly being left behind. Even the GOP is going to dump to the Tea Party, which is rapidly becoming irrelevant.

Gun policy came in third at 15%, followed by health care at 12%, foreign policy and immigration each at 5% and the environment at 3%.

I am also middle class. What insurance has gone up two years in a row? Are you referring to your health insurance? If so my insurance has gone up every year since I started working 30+ years ago under both Democratic and Republican Presidents and Congresses. For me at least the rate of increase has moderated in the past couple of years. I’m not saying that is a trend but it has for me. Perhaps it is because I am taking good care of myself.
Which of your taxes have gone up each year the past two years? There have been no increases in federal taxes in the past two years until the expiration of the Social Security “tax holiday” that ended on 01 January 2013. Congress was never going to extend that holiday even had a Republican tax plan been enacted. That was always intended to be temporary. And unless you are a high wage earner your federal marginal rate has not increased either.

One will be delivered by a moderate, and the other will be delivered by an extremist. I am amazed that i am watching the Republican destroy itself in front of the world! All political parties pass away in time, but I just never expected this to happen so quickly. So long, GOP! amazingly accurate and well versed
Sincerely,
Howard R. Sills
Sheriff

Which brings us to the economic level. The deficits that Bush ran up in the years in which the country was teetering on the verge of a serious recession had the beneficial effect of righting the economy. In that sense, deficits not only didn’t matter, but were a force for economic good.

An honored guest of House Republicans at the State of the Union address is Ted Nugent, who once threatened the President’s life, equated feminists to “a fat pig who doesn’t get it often enough” and called the President’s supporters “pimps and whores.”
Ted Nugent is PIMPING the GOP for his 15 minutes of fame.
What does that make Ted Nugent?……… a FAME wh@re.
Uh Huh

Ted Nugent is a COWARD hiding behind the GOP.
I bet you $10,000 that he WOULD NOT SAY those THINGS FACE TO FACE
to any Obama supporters and walk away UNSCATHED.
Uh Huh

Not a Rush fan, but I got to ask…
Rush used drugs but now says he’s off of them, but he’s still “drugged up Rushie”
Obama used drugs but says he’s off of them, why isn’t he “drugged up Obamie”?
both admitted to using, both state they are clean, but only one still has to carry that cross.
Same with Clinton and Bush.

How can you hate on Ted Nugent so much? He wrote the democrat theme song, “Free for All” (for our valued constituencies) – parenthetical added later by the democrats.

“As a result, their political fortunes will continue to suffer.”
Your concern is duly noted, Jay, Thanks. Your multiple articles showing concern for the Republican party must mean they’re doing something right by shaking up the apple cart.

If Bobby Jindal thinks the Republican party is “stupid” he had better take another look at his chances of being re-elected. Real Repubicans don’t care what other people say about us.
We can be as stupid as we want.
We are stupid because we believe in the God given rights of our constitution.
If that’s being stupid
I AM PROUD TO BE A STUPID REPUBLICAN

Ted Nugent is a pant soiling infantile draft dodger who should fallow Laura Ingram advice shut up and sing. Ted should therefore be punished for being as big a wuss as Piers Morgan being water boarded at camp X ray, being locked in steel cage wearing only a diaper watching either the sandy shooting in Arizona or the Nevada car hunt. The irony as Ted can only see the dust, explosions and fire works from
gatling guns, maximum guns, machine guns, miniguns, automatic rifles and field guns. In the Nevada car hunt seeing Ted’s vehicles destroyed by automatic gun fire, shot gun fire home made motars and fire works. That’ll learn him for undermining gun rights.
