In the video below, Sen. John McCain demonstrates his version of respect for the uniform as he responds to testimony by Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, regarding the inability of the U.S. military to respond in time to the Benghazi attacks. As McCain sees, Dempsey’s testimony was “one of the more bizarre statements I have ever seen” and “simply false”. In other words, the general was lying under oath to a congressional committee:
“I stand by my testimony, your dispute of it notwithstanding,” Dempsey responded afterward.
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta backed up Dempsey’s statement before the Senate Armed Services Committee. As Tom Curry of NBC News reports:
“In his testimony, Panetta said the Department of Defense and U.S. armed forces “did all that we could do in response to the attacks in Benghazi.” He explained that “armed UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones), AC-130 gunships, or fixed-wing fighters with the associated tanking – you’ve got to provide air re-fueling– armaments – you’ve got to arm all the weapons before you put them on the planes” — were not in the vicinity of Libya.
He said that even if he’d been able to deploy F-16 fighters or AC-130 gunships over Benghazi in time, “the mission still depends on accurate information about what targets they’re supposed to hit. And we had no forward air controllers there” and no communications with U.S. personnel on the ground.
He said, “because of the distance, it would have taken at least 9 to 12 hours, if not more, to deploy these forces to Benghazi. This was, pure and simple, — in the absence as I said of any kind of advance warning — a problem of distance and time.”
Panetta also pointed out that the two attacks in Benghazi were relatively brief, and occurred six hours apart. “We were not dealing with a prolonged or continuous assault which could have been brought to an end by a U.S. military response,” Panetta said.
According to Richard Sisk of military.com, McCain wasn’t alone in pressing the case:
“Other Republicans on the committee joined McCain in questioning why the military didn’t send F16s or AC-130 gunships to drive off the terrorists attacking Benghazi, but Dempsey and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, who also testified, said there simply wasn’t time and they lacked the intelligence to mount an effective response.
Dempsey said there wasn’t an AC-130 gunship within 1,000 miles of Benghazi and the nearest F16s at a base in Aviano, Italy, were not on standby alert and would not have reached Benghzi in time.
Panetta added that “you can’t just willy-nilly send F16s there and blow the hell out of a place without knowing what’s taking place.”
It would be nice if the world were as simple and uncomplicated as McCain prefers to it be, if intervention were possible merely because he wants it to be possible, if technicalities such as time and space could be waved away merely by his own insistence that they are unimportant.
We do not live in such a world, although McCain increasingly appears to believe that he does.

Dempsey couldn’t shine McCain’s shoes. Dempsey is a Bozo lackey who preaches the liberal line to the point of being almost comical. McCain is just doing his job, nothing more. This “over the hill, white, aging”, war hero is so far above the average liberal nutcase so as to not even make it a case. People like Bookman would not understand as would most of you liberal arm chair soldiers who don’t have a clue as to what McCain endured. Over five years. In that slop filled hovel they call a prison, beaten on a daily basis, starved, tortured to the point of madness…… and you friggin’ liberals have all the answers. For me, I completely disagree with McCain’s politics, his wishy-washy stance on things, his complete selling out to keep himself in office…but yes, the man served with dignity, honor and his service is not to be ridiculed. However, his actions, his votes, and his stances on matter of keeping our Republic a functioning democracy are by no means to be treated with “kid gloves” because of his service.

Look people its not the darn congress that is at fault. They very well may not have voted to allocate more money for defence. But there is no information that they wanted to cut funds totally. What happen was the white house pulled our security team out and replaced them with people from there instead.” Big mistake” They didn’t have to add more they just needed to keep what they had and i think it would have been a different situation.
The Pentagon was incharge of that not the congress because ambassador Stevens and others made several attempts to ask them to be able to keep the American forces there. This started in June or July i think when the same building was attacked. The terrorist blew a massive hole in the reinforced concrete wall. But Obama did nothing even though he knew 9/11 was right around the corner he knew that there should have been a stronger force for this occasion. He did nothing in the face of terrorism he did nothing to stop it plain and simple. If this were a republican you libs would be ready to burn them down.

1) What Jay fails to address (and Senator McCain brought out) was not so much what “should” have been done at the time but what “could” have been done had adequate security on the ground and/or adequate PREPOSITIONED forces been in place and ready to go.
This was a MASSIVE failure on the part of those in charge for not being prepared BEFOREHAND knowing what danger our people were in. It would be similar to sending the President out with inadequate Secret Service personnel and then saying, “well, we had lot’s more but we couldn’t get them there in time.”
Well, DUH ! That should have been allowed for by GETTING THEM CLOSER to start with !
2) But all of that aside, we know it wasn’t a TERRORIST attack anyway. Jay said so.

Never made a bad decision? so you can pile it on to this national hero who spent his time standing up for something besides some kind of dinky liberal spin that gets us nowhere. He and others have described some things while at the Hilton that were almost unbelievable. I have seen some of these patients who were tortured on a regular basis for longer than a year or so. It fu*ks with your mind, not to mention your body. One favorite was to spread the legs of a prisoner and take a simple bamboo shoot which is stiff and somewhat flexible and flip it into the testicles. Doing this for about an hour and you will tell them anything they want to know. Ever see a scrotum that is three times the normal size? How about the same technique on the bottom of someone’s feet. It makes the feet swell about twice their normal size and prisoners have to crawl to some clay pot to defecate because they can’t walk. Day after day, the same thing. For weeks, months and years. How long could you take it, uH Huh? I think I have the answer. McCain is twice the man you and I will ever be.

Obama’s far left flank will be unhappy if the mission to kill Awlaki, an American citizen, was successful. They will again decry such drone strikes against American citizens as unprecedented and lawless.
On this, I will come to Obama’s defense.
Awlaki’s membership and leadership in al Qaeda is undisputed.

Secondly, you statement about the Pentagon being in charge is another fantasy. If they do not have the money to fly the planes and sail the ships, what choices do they have in offering protection to any embassy anywhere?
Did you know that the Marines that are stationed at embassies are there primarily to protect the written material so that it gets destroyed first? Then, they try to protect the embassy. The USA has contracted out most of the security work to private agencies. If they do not get paid, they do not work, bottom line!!!!!!

This is scary business my friends. As testified today under oath, the Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint chiefs of staff could not get in touch with the President during the entire time of the raid. How in the hell is it that the two military leaders in this nation does not have 24/7, 365 days per year to the Commander and chief (especially on the anniversary of 911) This is also on the same day that the President had a meeting with the Sec. of Defense earlier because he was concerned over the Egyptian Embassy. But, it’s ok to just willy-nilly send drones in to kill folks (including American citizens) and kids and women too! I see…
I’ve said that when?
As asserted earlier–I’m sorry you and yours, apparently, are just now learning about the kill list and whatnot. Maybe a little less time in the right wing echo chamber might help such things from happening in the future.

Uh…. Huh, 8:11,
Ever made a mistake? Palin wasn’t best choice and he has admitted that since 2008. You must have never done something that you would like to take back, now have you?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
“Ever made a mistake?”
Yes….but I did not take it out on others.
“Never made a bad decision?”
His bad decision was he ran AGAINST a BLACK MAN AND LOST.
“national hero who spent his time standing up for something besides
some kind of dinky liberal spin”
He served in the Vietnam War that was a disaster for the U.S. and a war
that the U.S. should have stayed out of.
“described some things while at the Hilton that were almost unbelievable.”
He should thank his Heavenly Father that he made it out alive and he should
be more humble and THANKFUL
There are soldiers coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan who have
suffered as much.
There are soldiers that are coming home with no arms, no legs, who
have also suffered.
McCain should be more thankful that he came home alive and has lived
a good life doing what he loved.

How does this play into the lib talking points?
General Dempsey, Chair of the Joint Chiefs, told the Senate today that the intelligence in the region and the amount of attacks prior to the attack on the US Special Mission in Benghazi, Libya, should have made it “crystal clear” to everyone involved that an attack on the annex was “imminent.”
‘Ya got nothing, do you?

Even Ambassador Stevens knew something was up because his friends in the local militia told him they had heard rumors.
The USA employed contractors as guards of the embassy and the consulate mission. We did not have the money to pay them, nor would we allocate the money to fund our rapid-deployment force in Italy.
Ambassador Stevens felt that he had enough experience and friends in the area so that he could have means and methods of avoid surprises. After all, he had spent more than 20 years in the country and had a good working relationship with Khadafy and the rebel groups.
Yes, he requested more security but was turned down because the State Department did not have the money allocated by Congress and were refused to unlock money allocated for State Department functions in Iraq.
What would you have done?

You mean to tell me that this country has plenty of money for welfare an foodstamps to protect the poor. But they couldn’t scrape togeather any funds for some American forces to protect them on 9/11. Seems like the president would see the danger thats going on in these countrys and sign one of his famous executive orders to make sure this doesn’t happen again . But guess what we just had another embassy attacked in Africa i think. Is it me or did all this stuff start happening when obama took office?
