There’s a lot of unhappiness out there.
For example, the Wall Street types who financed the GOP’s 2012 campaign, donating hundreds of millions of dollars to the party as well as to the SuperPACs run by Karl Rove and others, are not a happy lot.
They are unhappy because they got little or nothing for their investment; they are unhappy with the GOP’s deep reluctance to come to the aid of Hurricane Sandy victims in the Northeast; and as the Manhattan elite, they are unhappy about financing a party that picks on their gay friends and their Muslim friends and doesn’t seem all that friendly to their black friends either.
Rove and his buddies in the GOP political establishment are also very, very unhappy. They are unhappy because their deep-pocket donors are unhappy. They’re unhappy because the deeply conservative base that they created and nurtured along the way to a permanent Republican majority has now slipped their leash and now acts as if they, not the Roves of the world, ought to run the party and set its goals and pick its candidates.
Such impertinence is not appreciated.
To regain control, Rove and his allies have created a new front group, the Conservative Victory Fund, to siphon still more money from donors. This time, the money will be used to finance a war with the great unwashed within their own party and promote more electable (read: moderate and malleable) candidates. In effect, they seek to put their creature back on its leash, where it can be more useful to them.
“There is a broad concern about having blown a significant number of races because the wrong candidates were selected,” as Steven J. Law, president of Rove’s American Crossroads, told the New York Times.
And of course, those who identify as champions of the GOP grassroots aren’t happy either. They aren’t in the mood to listen to condescending lectures from fancy-dan consultants who spent hundreds of millions of other people’s money and got nothing for it, and now want to blame their failure on conservatives for being too conservative.
Matt Hoskins, executive director of the Senate Conservatives Fund, founded by former Sen. Jim DeMint, put it bluntly:
“The Conservative Defeat Project is yet another example of the Republican establishment’s hostility toward its conservative base. Rather than listening to the grassroots and working to advance their principles, the establishment has chosen to declare war on the party’s most loyal supporters. If they keep this up, the party will remain in the wilderness for decades to come.”
And as our friends over at RedState put it:
“American Crossroads is creating a new Super PAC to crush conservatives, destroy the tea party, and put a bunch of squishes in Republican leadership positions. …I dare say any candidate who gets this group’s support should be targeted for destruction by the conservative movement.”
Live by the sword, die by the sword, I suppose.

“Hey Doom, have you noticed there isn’t a single liberal poster on this board who EVER defends God? Not one. Ever.”
Does the Omnipotent need defending?
I believe in God. I just don’t believe arrogant, hateful, self-serving men when they ’splain God to me in the context of judging me or trying to run my life. See, believing what such a man says about God requires more than a belief in God; it requires a belief that such men actually (a) have the capacity to understand one as great as God, and (b) are capable of telling the truth if they knew it.
The faith required to believe such men is far greater than the faith required to believe that there is a being superior to mortal humans.

And if you were a gun dealer and you refused to sell me another firearm for that stated reason, I would sue the living daylights out of you. And I’d win, too.

Ok libs, dont get your hopes up. There is NO difference between todays GOP and todays Democratic Party (from a national party success point of view).
Jay would have a novice believe that only the GOP has super packs, large donors and internal struggles. Jay would also have all us forget that Romney, hardly a conservative in his approach, got 50 million votes.
Where was Jay when Obama was bribing every democratic senator in the country to get Obama Care passed ? Where was Jay when the conservative democrats held out against Obama on the abortion aspects of the very same bill, almost to the point of killing it ?
That certainly indicates internal strife. Where is Jay when The Congressional Black Caucus is publically critical of Obama ?
Where is Jay when Obama “caves” on high income taxes and the more liberal wing slams him for not standing up to the man (cons) ?
Where is Jay when Obama passes the exact same national security measures, which were a violation of our rights when Bush did it ?
For you Jay, to try to seperate the two parties based on the facts, and that they are, is partisanship at its height, you sir should run for office. You are nothing more than a modern day politician. Critical of every aspect the opposition has and blind to the faults of your own, you would fit right in. But then again your money comes from the role you fill obediantly doesn’t it ? The role of party propagandist spouting the party line in a national news outlet. Oh who is that who banters against the ‘FOX NEWS” mentality has he uses his piece of the media pie for the exact same purpose of party support ? Thats where the money is though isnt it Jay ? Enjoy your 6 figure job with 3 retirement packages (I believe you once said), the real poor and lower middle class will continue to follow your brainwashing, especially when the government, as you want it gives us all they can. but hey the good news is we may all get free Wi Fi in the future, at government expense that is. or should I say at the expense of the ones who are taxed, all 50% of us.

Well said. And I do hear ya on some of the dogma bit and the organized religion bit which I am very weary of myself. Unfortunately a lotta religious charlatans out there and especially amongst these prosperity preachers like Joel Osteen, Creflo Dollar, etc. Why people follow these cotton candy preachers is beyond me.
I’m even suspicious of religion on a small scale. When I was a kid we went to a relgious camp for 2 weeks because the neighbors said it was a great camp to my parents. It was like a living hell. Instead of fishing, swimming, and all the other stuff you did at camp there was practically nothing to do. We had these church kinda brain washing services 2-3 times a day. The night session all the kids were guilted into coming down and accepting Christ and crying for all their sins and all that crap. It wasn’t about a loving God. It was about hellfire and brimstone and guilt and all that bullsheet. Even as a kid I knew that was bullsheet and it turned me away from God for a long, long time. But that’s all manmade crap and folks gotta get past the crap where men screw it up.

Bookman, please name the GOP elected officials against Hurricane Sandy relief. Your confusion with people concerned about the ridiculous amount of pork in the relief package is classic Obama misdirection. Your insinuations are completely unfounded and part of the greater never ending Obama spin machine to distract from the important issues. How is the Obamacare implementation going? Are the numbers working out? How about Dodd-Frank? Are there still “too big to fail” institutions? How many rules from the legislation have been implemented? As a union puppet, is Obama going to create a bureaucratic committee loaded with union appointees to control immigrant workers? The court system is gradually unwinding the NLRB fiasco and the EPA is being reined in as well. With the head of the FCC proposing “free” wi-fi for all Americans, obviously, Obama is about to announce significant new taxes. Hey, it worked with the “free” phones for the election. The next step is probably a VAT tax. Grossly misunderstood by most Americans, the VAT is a politician’s dream allowing taxes up and down the supply chain without any accountability. Since Obama has already spent ALL of the revenues from the evil rich he campaigned on for four years, he has to find some new sources for his irresponsible spending. So I guess this is the new normal: never ending tax increases, regulation, complete disregard for any fiscal responsibility, historically high unemployment/underemployment, historically low GDP, constant adversarial attacks on equal branches of Government, mediocre cabinet appointments consisting only of maleable “yes men”, and finally, complete control of the main stream media by the White House. I suppose it is o.k. if you have no personal ambition and have set the same low standards for your children. Then, Obama’s “Life of Julia” is for you.

We can’t stop a terrorist out in the field actively trying to do imminent harm to our country and its citizens just because he or she happens to somehow have American citizenship? Seriously? That’s your complaint? You want Anwar al-Awlaki, the guy who sent the Christmas airline bomber to this country, who pushed Major Hasan to kill fellow soldiers at Fort Hood, who became a regional commander for Al Qaida in Yemen, who encouraged others, including the Times Square bomber — you insist that he get “due process” before he is stopped?”
Excellent example of how Jay will excuse ANYTHING when Obama does it. Warrantless wiretapping – no way! Warrantless executions? Well that’s fine. As long as it’s done by a Democrat!
And no, this isn’t about “heat of the battle” issues. This is about targeting a specific American citizen in advance. No court of law, no warrant, no evidence required. This is hypocrasy at its finest. If you don’t like waterboarding, and warrantless wiretaps, yet you support this, you are a hypocrite. And that isn’t a word I use lightly.

I am an independent, not a repub or dem. These bast#rds are and were plotting against us, and terrorist attacks are for real. There is a difference between rounding up every ethnicity during a war, and snuffing out a scum-bag. Learn it, live it, its here. I, for one, admire the president for snuffing out these rodents who have no other cause or purpose except to kill. Even then, they let others do the dirty work, as besides being too sorry to do it they are too cowardly as well. And lastly, remember…..there are things the armed services and others know that they may not call you up and ask your pansy opinion on prior to taking action. These sob’s are not citizens……they are leacherous villians who need to go, and although I am not the prez’s biggest fan I gotta go with him on this one.

” Unfortunately a lotta religious charlatans out there and especially amongst these prosperity preachers like Joel Osteen, Creflo Dollar, ”
You may want to rethink who to include in the ‘prosperity preacher’ category. Just because they are Prostestants on TV doesn’t make them a prosperity preacher. From what I’ve seen, Osteen is most unlike many televangelists. Saw on 60 minutes when he first took over the church he asked the board who had the best transparent financial reporting. The answer came, he asked ‘are we like that?” answer was ‘no’ and he said something to the effect of ‘we are, starting now and that’s the minimum standard.’
Once cite below, mirrors others I’ve read. Gets his money from his books, not the donations. No jet. Pays his way on the road. Lives in the same house he’s had for years. Never asks for money on his show. In fact, the guy’s a regular subject of criticism from the likes of the Baptist Theological Seminary up here in Dallas because he preaches a positive message of a loving God – not one who’s angry and punishes people and makes them rich.
I’ve listened to him – he sounds more like Unity or Religious Science/New Thought than anything. It’s all about being positive and not being downcast, angry or fearful. Y’know, a few people on this blog could stand to watch him….

If one accepts the war on terror (or whatever title one wants to use) is a war then rules of war apply. “Due process” is not a concept we’ve extended to the battlefield. As I read your scenario, a person like al-Awlaki would have to have a warrant issued for his apprehension, military couldn’t do it, law enforcement would, he’d have to be Mirandized, brought to trial within certain timelines, etc.
To put it in terms many of a certain era on this blog would understand.
You’re with 0311 and Recon and a few others on patrol in Vietnam. You see ahead of you a group on NVA coming right at you with an American in black pajamas and an NVA helmet walking point, carrying AK. According to what I’ve read of your posts, the Marines would have to withhold fire on the American and accord him due process of criminal law.
Also, I did not see where you answered my earlier question of ” the guy in the bunker, whom the authorities determined posed an imminent threat to the little boy, whose capture they felt was infeasible, so the authorities struck according to current legal practices: was that guy an American citizen killed without due process?
Plus, I haven’t seen where you’ve described this ‘due process’ in the circumstance under consideration.

Wow,
I’m kinda late reading today but did Jay really say it was ok to assassinate an American citizen without due process?
I know it’s off topic and all bit that’s wrong.
It does not matter to me what any citizen is accused of there should be an attempt to apprehend and not just go out and execute.
Our rights should never be compromised out of fear. Was wrong when bush was doing it and wrong now when Obama is doing it.

How has the deficit dropped $2.5 trillion?
Anyhow, I’d be careful putting too many eggs in the CBO basket.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/05/budget-deficit-trillion-cbo_n_2623910.html
A couple of takeaways. First spending will continue to increase under BO due to healthcare and entitlements. Second, estimates that unemployment will hover between 7.9% to over 8% as those who left market come back…in other words the benefit of those leaving workforce that was prime reason rate went below 8%, will work in reverse.
Of course this all assumes congress sticks to it’s spending agreements.
Where are all the spending cuts you suggest BO is holding hostage?

Good afternoon Paul,
I probably shouldn’t lump him in there with Creflo and some others. But to me he does preach a sort of cotton candy type religion that seems to have a heavy emphasis on touchy feely good religion and the constant preaching about financial rewards for believing in God. I don’t see much in the way of teaching real Bible lessons and teaching about doctrines and some of the hard lessons of the bible. I saw that 60 minutes interview as well and I’ve seen Osteen on TV. Other than preaching that you will be monetarily blessed and rewarded by God for believing in him I just don’t see much substance from this guy. I like his positivity but there are some harsh lessons to also learn from the Bible. Not crazy about the fire and brimstone Baptist preachers either though.
As for paying his own way he flies first class with his wife. And the there was that matter of his wife’s nastiness on that one airline flight. She had to be physically restrained.

Hmmm. It is likely BO will not need pecking by his opponents to economically trip up second term. Economists remain in disagreement as to what is store..
Way to many variables at this point that could affect precarious situation. Additional debt, unemployment/double dip recession, debt service rate increase, EU performance, unbudgeted yet reasonably expected soaring costs above and beyond ever imagined by PelosiCare..
Second term seems to be a real charm to recents..I’m not expecting much different for BO..blame whomever you want but DEM one-size-fits-all economic dogma may be his downfall..

Moderate Line,
When two folks have an argument, each usually presents his/her point. Since you have no point other than babbling and b.s. cry-babying (and I nor many others construe that as a point) then please; allow me!
+++++
If personal attacks make you the winner then yes you win. ie. babbling and b.s. cry-babying, your pansy opinion I believe everyone has a right to their opinion.
First I voted for Obama so I believe if anyone should have a beef with my moderate credentials it should be the right.
Second, These sob’s are not citizens, Al-Awlaki was a US citizen and so was his 16 year son killed by an attack. It is hard to beat someone in an argument when one side does not let the truth get in their way. Chargers were drop against him in FT Hood because a lack of evidence. Now does that mean he is innocent. Not really. I feel pretty confident he is.
There is a difference between rounding up every ethnicity during a war, and snuffing out a scum-bag Where did I say they were the same? I merely mention this is proof that just because someone was not impeach did not mean they were not guilty of violating the constitution.
there are things the armed services and others know that they may not call you up and ask your pansy opinion on prior to taking action I am pretty confident they will not call me at all nor should they.
So basically bro whoop me because you disagree with me. Your opinion was formed prior to any exchange between myself and bro. So if disagreeing with you means I lost then I guess I lost. But I really don’t care.

Hey, if I was making that kind of money I’d be flying first class all the time, too! As far as the wife incident, my recollection is the later story development (which, strangely, wasn’t on the front page) was that other passengers said ‘all I can say is, that isn’t what I saw.” But even if it did play out that way, my view of religion is it’s a way to guide people on a path. They may fall off occasionally, but the point is to get back on, make amends and try to not do it again.
I suppose I like listening to a guy who says ‘look, life can be hard, terrible things can happen, but don’t walk away from goodness. Don’t let your attitude go south.”
You may look at it as cotton candy religion, but frankly, as I read the New Testament, I’d say Osteen’s style is a whole lot closer to what Jesus said than these fire-and-brimstone types.
Which is why I like ‘to each his own. If it works for you, fine.”
Okay, Thulsa, get ready for a couple of the regulars to show up, read our exchange, and tell us both how God isn’t happy with either one of us!

The only ones really protesting are the dopes on the left blaming the rich for all ills, and the dopes on the right who are tea bagging.

Seems you are projecting what you think about people to be actual fact.
With the guns example you used.
You don’t seem to understand most if not all “Cons” protest and disagree with those who kill women and children with guns. They just don’t protest the gun!
See the drone is the gun in this case and Obama is the one making the decision that ultimately kills women and children.
Now do you protest him for that along with the gun shooting murderer of women and children or are you using your selective outrage?
