Obama likes to shoot skeet, but states that he doesn’t care for the flavor of them. He’s also concerned with the dwindling skeet population and plans to put out a presidential directive that forbids hunting and/or capturing of skeet.

Amazing how Rogers and Deal actually think no one else will see this is the good ol’ boy network in action that the rest of the country makes so much fun of. Corruption is alive and well in Georgia. Big surprise with Deal in the governor chair. All of you who voted for this dude should be ashamed of yourselves. Of course, you really didn’t have any good choice if you are a right wing nut did you? They are all crazy in this place. I call it Mayberry on speed for a good reason.

Hmmm… Heath do have some interesting positions on taxes:

Taxation

Limited taxation is necessary to fund government. The level of taxation should be at the lowest level possible to fund the necessary and constitutional obligations of government. Taxation should be applied fairly and equally. Tax laws should not choose winners and losers.

As a Georgia State Senator, I believe that we must not raise taxes. The State, Federal and Local governments must live within their means, just as we have to do in our own homes.
We must also recognize that in a growing economy, revenues increase without any increase in tax rates. We need a disciplined method of reserving an appropriate amount of revenue during good times and returning the excess to the taxpayers in proportion to the amount paid.

And the part about rewarding his friends with tax monies and the ignoring voters, where was that part? Maybe its in this part:

Personal Responsibility and Moral Values

While I believe there are many well intended proposals introduced each year, the fact is that we can’t legislate personal responsibility and morals. As a nation and state, we have adopted laws against all sorts of irresponsible and immoral activities in an effort to create what we individually believe is the perfect environment for us to live in. However, we observe that over time the tendency is for people to become dependent upon the government for all our safety and well-being. Recall that the Declaration of Independence refers to Liberty as the second “unalienable Right”. Liberty is defined as “the positive enjoyment of various social, political or economic rights and privileges”. Liberty is worth defending. We need to increase personal responsibility and cultivate positive moral values….

Reducing Dependency on Welfare

I was proud to have voted for legislation this past legislative session that requires those receiving welfare benefits to undergo drug testing. I believe we should continue to shrink the size of government and reduce welfare programs. Every government program like welfare should be strictly temporary and those on welfare should be pushed to get back to work as soon as possible.

It would seem that “straitroad” thinks it’s just fine to use taxpayer/state monies to pay off a politician. At a salary of $150K ($200K when benefits are included), this is certainly a felony. Was the GPB job posted for internal applicants? Were all hiring policies followed? Is Chip trying to qualify for a lifetime pension by staying in state government service? I guess “straitroad” just wants all this swept under the carpet. The less people talk about it, the sooner everyone forgets.

YAY!!! I love to see journalists actually doing their jobs! FYI, y’all, the Capitol is open for you to come watch these crooks in action. Also, it’s fun to wander around and look at the art, natural, and historical stuff. Your tax money pays for all this, so don’t be shy. Take MARTA to the 5-Points station, and then hop on the East line to the Ga State station, and it’s about a block up the street. Outside the chambers, there are cute children and little slips of paper. Write down your designated croo– er, I mean, representative’s name, and ask him or her to come out to speak with you. Hand it to one of the cute children and wait! It’s that easy. (Or, if you really want to be horrified, just lurk around and listen to the lobbyists whisper.) It’s FUN!

DownInAlbany comes just about the closest of all with his first sentence, but then he appears to try to downplay it or make it seem ok right before he goes into the “but Timmy did this!!” deflective defense.

shrug. Maybe it does. The “NJ” part, anyway.

To be honest I hadn’t heard much about it, but news-googling it gave me this:

http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/02/04/3216337/trail-of-sen-bob-menendez-investigation.html

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — The shadowy tipster who made explosive allegations involving U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez and underage prostitutes in the Dominican Republic named names. He gave descriptions of the women, and in some cases, phone numbers and addresses.

Despite those details, the women are nowhere to be found.

A week after the claims made headlines in the United States and on this Caribbean island, the alleged prostitutes have disappeared. An attorney who once represented two of the women said he hadn’t spoken to them in months, and then stopped returning phone calls himself. A two-bedroom apartment where some of the alleged liaisons took place is now vacant. Little remains here beyond hazy memories.

maybe that’s why you’re not hearing more? there isn’t anything new to report?

One of the current board members at Georgia Public Broadcasting just happens to be Bert Brantley. One wonders if he thus had a role in Chip Roger’s transition from the Georgia legislature to GPB. After all Brantley surely has the background and credentials to have helped make this happen. Brantley is currently Executive vice-President for Public Affairs and Issue Management at major PR firm McRae Communications:

http://eon.businesswire.com/news/eon/20110124006135/en/McRae/Bert-Brantley/public-affairs

He was not only communications director for Governor Sonny Perdue, but he also recently stage-managed the passage of the very controversial Georgia charter school amendment as the CEO of the pro-charter school non-profit “Families for Better Public Schools,” through which hundreds of thousands in out of state (and in-state) donations were funneled from powerful anti-public school education millionaires, billionaires, and the charter school corporate entities which will now benefit from this sea-change in how charter schools get approved in Georgia, Yes, one wonders whether Brantley just happened to be strategically located as a board member at Georgia Public Broadcasting right at the time these Republicans needed him to be there, i.e., right at the time they needed Rogers to be employed somewhere else besides the Georgia General Assembly.

Erwin: Consensus is not the reason to say it’s not in serious dispute. Overwhelming evidence is.

What we have are a few confirmed truths:

1) That global warming is happening
2) That the common scapegoats are not the cause (solar fluctuations, “just a natural cycle”)
3) That humans are mostly the cause.

The majority of scientists who have peer-reviewed the research now only disagree on whether our factor of influence is closer to 51%, or closer to 95% (the percentages are made up to make the point that scientists assert we are THE major cause, based on study after study, and no scientist has credibly disputed this assertion, and that we just don’t know the exact degree of our influence, but that it really matters very little what that exact number is).

Basically, as I have been over all this before, there is simply no cause to think it’s a made up conspiracy, or that humans have nothing to do with it, at this point.

I am sure it won’t make a difference to you but if you like I will spam a summary of what we know that backs this up. And you and others will deny it, of course, just like you do every time. So I don’t really see the point unless someone is seriously wondering what the actual data is, as opposed to someone who is pretending to want the data so they can come up with confirmation bias arguments against it.

If the politician in question decides that looking like a fool hiding in plain sight is less damaging footage than actually answering a question on camera, he or she is welcome to take that course. The public is free to judge for themselves in such cases.

Likewise, no law forbids the media from showing an official refusing to face the music.

Yes, I’ve seen cases in which the “chase video” was probably overdone and inappropriate. I don’t believe this was one of those.

Really, if anyone doubts that climate change IS HAPPENING. or that Humans ARE A SIGNIFICANT FACTOR. Then I”m not interested in dealing with them.
They’re wrong, Ignorant, and willingly ignorant because the evidence is there. Humans are a significant source of climate change. Say it with me now.

The argument should be “What do we do about it?”

a) nothin’. keep polluting and poisoning the only world we have.
b) Something piecemeal. Because doing anything big is hard. (recycle, change to energy saving applicances)
c) Something a little harder. Because it’s worth doing to help the planet. Cut auto emissions, cut business emissions, cut energy emissions, enable and support clean energy of all kinds.
d) Something significant. Punish those that do not clean up their act. Pay significantly more for clean energy now, shut down anything that pollutes over a certain threshold.
e) Going overboard. Halt/reverse economy by placing prohibitive restrictions on everything to clean the air.

Anyone want to weigh in on actions above, or actions that I did not mention?

One of the things I worry about with alternative cable networks and owner designed internet news is the local corruption goes unanswered. These guys go and hide from this reporter and she doesn’t come back, he now has a green light to do it again. I mean it was pretty corrupt when you had the Ray Moores reporting hard and furious, but now the resources are dissipating and these crooks kind of control what they want you to hear.

This is why I was so happy Obama came through the negative ad attack of the rich right in the last campaign. I think the corrupt politicians can control places like Georgia where obviously more people are like them than not, but nationwide seem to see through these petty crooks and not allow for this cheap stuff to go on. We desperately need a two party system in this state.

Nobody is stopping me from my way of life, corrupt as they are they seem to contain it to their side of the street, amazing, and hope it always stays that way.

The real center of corruption and greed that breaths on this nation is Wall Street. The finest minds in this country think they are entitled to no risk and all reward because they are our finest minds. The state is too dumb to worry about and Wall Street too smart to control. DIA, there are several reasons for that. One is that the entire governing apparatus in the state of Georgia is Republican, so anything critical that I write on state topics can be viewed as anti-Republican even though I was probably equally hard on Georgia Democrats when they held all the power.

If you doubt that, you can go look it up if you wish. We were particularly hard on the D’s on issues such as ethics and transportation (strongly opposing the Outer Perimeter, for example, and pushing investment in transit instead). Speaker Murphy wouldn’t even speak to me.

On the national level, I happen to disagree very strongly with the modern Republican Party on just about everything that it does. Those are honest policy disagreements as well as disagreement about its basic no-compromise governing style, which I find dangerous. I make no apologies for any of that, and I express those differences in policy terms.

However, I don’t believe I have ever said or implied that Republicans are somehow inherently more corrupt than Democrats, because I do not believe that is true and never have.

If that’s true, cite when I did state or imply that Republicans are inherently more corrupt. Again, I disagree strongly with what the GOP has become in recent years, and have not refrained from saying so. But that doesn’t mean I believe that they are any more, or less, susceptible to temptation.

I’ve never posted this before, and I won’t again, but here’s what I wrote in a column to fellow liberals back when Bill Clinton’s affair first hit the news:

“If this were a Republican president, what would we be doing?

We’d all be screaming for his head, that’s what.

We’d be pointing out that here was a man in power who had used a young intern like a soulless receptacle, who had reduced his secretary to little more than a procuress, who had clearly pressured that secretary to lie under oath and who had weakened the presidency to conceal a lie.

To support Clinton despite all that requires us to repudiate what we once claimed to believe about the way men and women should treat each other in the workplace. At the very least we have to pretend that such misbehavior isn’t really a big deal, that it’s all right to use a woman as long as the woman wants to be used.

So let’s talk now about those two lofty questions.

If politics is just a struggle for power between our gang and their gang, and if principle is simply a convenient hammer to pound on the other guy’s head, then we ought to defend Clinton with every means available. After all, he’s our guy and they’re attacking him, in ways that are clearly unfair.

But what if politics is something more than that? What if politics is a means of producing a better society, a more decent society? What if principles are more than just weapons to use against bad guys?

By continuing to support Clinton, we place ourselves in the hypocritical position of demanding a higher standard of behavior from our enemies than we do from our friends. Someday, believe it or not, this is all going to end. And I’m afraid that on that glorious day, we’ll look back and realize that the price we paid to save Clinton just wasn’t worth it.”

When New Orleans lost its seven day a week paper the worry there was who is going to represent the eyes and ears of the people. These voices are getting weaker and the political power structures stronger. Some people like it that way but to me somewhere we are a country flying blind, no longer a democracy and a one party system is a good way there as it is.

You have the right to listen to Jay and still agree with your elected leaders, his truths are pretty transparent and I only hope you find the leaders to be half as much. I happen to disagree very strongly with the modern Republican Party on just about everything that it does.

Where is the conflict? What “debauchery” are you talking about? People hire their friends in politics, government and the private sector. People want to be surrounded with people they trust. Liberal Nightmare

By: Howard Galganov, Canadian writer December 14, 2012

I was just about to publish my latest editorial… on Canada’s Supreme Court decision to suspend Freedom of Speech in favor of promoting one language over all others. THEN THE CONNECTICUT SCHOOL SHOOTINGS HAPPENED.

What happened at Sandy Hook School takes precedence over any language issues in Canada and a failed Judicial System in both our countries.

I won’t waste words describing my feelings, because how I feel is indescribable about 27 people murdered, (20 young children and six adults at the school),the murder of the shooter’s mother beforehand, then the cowardly suicide of the shooter at the school as law enforcement closed in.

BUT I CAN TELL YOU WITH CERTAINTY WHY IT HAPPENED:

It didn’t happen because of the so-called gun culture, or because of poor security at the school. It happened because of the modern LEFTIST culture that has been busy removing all semblance of personal responsibility and respect from our lives.

It happened because of the Hollywood and television types who lecture the Conservatives on how people should live, while they make FORTUNES producing absolute FILTH and VIOLENCE in their movies, videos and television programs.

It happened because of reality TV shows that demean humanity, along with shows that make people laugh at the pain and humiliation of others.

The senseless murders happened because multi-millionaire computer game producers create UGLY digital scenarios that poison young minds with abject depravity and gratuitous violence.

It happened because the school system doesn’t teach values, and promotes the idea that ‘anything goes.’ And that all people are equal, regardless of the truth. And that no one ever fails.

It happened because LEFTISTS won’t allow concerned and loving parents to discipline their children, or raise their children in the time-honored way they feel is right.

It happened because far too many Liberals spend their time and effort ridiculing and attacking the people who want to live by the lessons of the Bible and the Torah.

In truth, this and other horrible acts of violence happen because our society– from the entertainment industry to schools to the media and to our governments– have created the social and cultural foundation that is eating away at both Canada and the United States like a cancer.

I know that what I am writing will inflame those on the LEFT, but that’s OK– because if they don’t like it, they can ROT in HELL along with the demons and losers of their own creation. I want my old country’s values back.

Values like standing in school when an adult entered the room. Like being seriously disciplined for bad behavior. Like when we were measured by our successes and failures. When not everyone had to waste years of his or her life going to college to study basket weaving instead of taking a trades course or going to work or the service right after high school. When your Mom was a caring woman and your Dad was a real man, an authority in the home. And when there weren’t vulgar parades extolling the “virtues” of being gay.
If you want to stop the sickness . . . IT’S TIME TO STOP THE LEFT.

In sadness . . . Howard Galganov

They are 20% more likely than U.S. adults to pay more for eco-friendly products.
They are 27% more likely than the average adult to own a bread-making machine.
A third of of them give to religious organizations.
They’re 108% more likely than the average adult to go to live theater.
They’re 42% more likely to drive a car with manual transmission.
They’re 78% more likely to get a massage.
They are nearly twice as likely as the average American adult to have made a speech.
They were twice as likely as the average American to go hiking.

Republican party- “Rape is a good thing. Without rape, we wouldn’t have all these beautiful children that we don’t want to help feed or clothe. Why should you abort a child just because you were raped? Why not keep that child or give it to a loving couple that enjoys rape just as much as your rapist did? Besides, if it was a legitimate rape, you wouldn’t have gotten preggers in the first place. You want birth control? Just put an aspirin between your knees” (smirk)

American Voting Women said – “What The F………”

Republicans have absolutely NO idea what they’re talking about most of the time. Sometimes they can sound sincere and helpful; but those other times, when they sound ignorant and arrogant, those are the doozies.

Republican Men And Rape– If they are so in awe of rape, they should join their local prisons and/or penitentiaries, slap Big Earl or Big Mac in the face, and see what happens.

If its legimate rape, their bodies will shut that sucker down.

The reason why a very large majority of congressional seats are uncontested is due to money.

Bull hockey!!!! Most seats run uncontested because of the makeup of the districts. What politician is going to run in a district where his voter base is less than 40% of the eligible voters?

I no longer “buy” the argument that its up to us to make changes “from the outside”.

Well, if you’re whining that you can’t do it without the money, how else are you going to make the change? The system doesn’t work without the voter. And yes, it may take a few tries to turn the 40% into a majority but it can be done. It will take money.

Spending is not worthless..if that were true, why do members of the House spend 30% of their time raising money?

Nothing will change Bro, that is until the private money is eliminated from the equation at all levels. Then and only then IMO will competition be generated for most seats and our ability to effect change has any traction.

None of us really know with meaningful credibility what’s gonna happen with climate change or whatever you want to call it. Again, a twenty some odd year old science where those not sold yet are shouted down and unfunded, suggesting the sky is gonna fall 50-100 years from now and we can do something about it…well seems a stretch for me.

But I just don’t know…will any warming trend continue ad infinitum? Nobody really knows..

C’mon, Scout. Surely you’re a better man than that. There’s hardly a member of any Marine band who’s a real Marine. They’re professional musicians given special exemption from Marine Corps rigors. In fact, they’re hired off the street, much as any other band hires musicians off the street, and exempted from boot camp and other travails. If you don’t know that by now, there’s no hope for you.

In fact, I bristle every time I see this motley collection introduced as the “U.S. Marine Corps Band.” Call it a drum and bugle corps or whatever, they’re no Marines. Not one of them would be able to disassemble and clean a rifle.

Old Breed Marine :

Time to give you a little education …………. :o )

You are talking about the Marine Orchestra (also known as the “President’s Own”). You are correct that they do not go through Marine Corps bootcamp but merely are taught how to wear the band uniform. They are professional muscians and are hired (and paid) as such through immediate rank. I agree with you that they can be called whatever the Commandant wants but they should NOT be wearing the “Eagle, Globe and Anchor”. They didn’t earn it by playing a violin.

Now ………….. the Drum and Bugle Corps is a different story. They are true Marines who have been through boot and infantry training (as all Marines go through). The simply have a “band” MOS.

Finally ………… the Silent Drill Team members are all infantry MOS (1811’s) as in addition to their ceremonial drill duties they are also part of the Washington, D.C. military response in case of a
national emergency.

By the way “old timer” ………… what are the colors of the buttons on your dress green blouse (you may have called that your “Alpha” uniform) ?

I’m betting yours are black …………….. mine were brown (OLD CORPS !!!!!!!!!!!!! )

How are the dummycrats going to convince men to vote for them? Gender gap is just as big on the men side.

4 years of Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio in front of the camera will take care of the Hispanic vote.

White women are already seeing what a bad choice they made with Obama. Young voters will see the same after another 4 years, plus they not going to be as enthused about voting for an old wrinkly white woman if the Dems nominate Hillary.

The 8 million religious and Tea party conservatives that sat home in November will be ready to vote in 2016 for a good conservative candidate.

The sheriffs further agree to support any legislation that would effectively penalize criminals who use firearms in the commission of crimes.”

It is too bad that you have taken the time to look at the taxes paid by anyone in this country who has a job. I am sure you will find everyone who works pays some type of tax, be it Social Security, Payroll, Medicare, sales tax, gasoline tax, etc., etc., etc.

If you will look at your own tax structure, if you work and have a mortgage, you too are what you so aptly define as a “taker.” If you file your taxes, you use the deduction for interest. Folks that rent pay a higher rental fee to pay for the units owned by a real estate developer, who use their federal deductions for real estate taxes and interest.

Ever heard of subsidized housing? Taxpayers pay their rent, buy them food, buy them coke, buy them Escalades, pay their cell phone bills, pay their doctor bills when they shoot each other, buy them Toys for their Tots, buy them contraceptives, abortions (which Im ok with, the more the better), etc. Anything else?

Jackie

February 4th, 2013

It appears the time you spend watching TV takes away from your understanding of what goes on in the real world.

Subsidized housing is something that is needed in this country and it not only affects the people that have their rent, food, coke, Escalades, cell phones, doctor bills, toys for their children, contraceptives, abortions, and so on.

Now, do you take your tax deductions for your housing? If so, your tax deduction is much greater than that of any one person you deem to be a taker, given the laundry-list of things you have articulated.

Care to refute that statement?

Too quick. Due date was March 4th, but her doctor doesn’t think she’ll make it through the week. She needs to hold off at least until after Valentine’s Day so that she can finish her Med Asst program externship hours. I’ve been trying to talk to the little one about letting mommy finish on time. :)

That puppy has been parked for so long, I honestly don’t even know where to start. If I get it back up and running, it will likely be exclusively for distance travel with the family. I can’t afford to drive it around the city.

Interesting admonishment coming from Jay. After all, the standard tactic of Leftists is that if you can’t defend an indefensible policy, then insult the challenger.

I continue to write a check or two to maintain legal status for a vehicle that sees very little use, myself, but it’s a tad smaller.

(and frankly, probably a lot nastier to the environment when operated.)

(and no, that’s not a pic of mine–mine’s a little rattier, actually.)

Apparently, so far, the youngest appears to have been 14 but the jury is still out. No it does not! You right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness infringes on my right to bear “ARMS”. Maybe your life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is a vintage not recognized by the founding fathers. Crazy fools should not have guns but you and your friends claim all of us are crazy fools. Maybe we should take away your 1st amendment rights to discuss something in an open forum when you have no idea what you are reading or taking about.

Obviously English isn’t your first OR second language. I have not admitted anything. I guess you don’t understand the difference between “I am a…” vs “I’d rather be…” Then again, for you, thinking isn’t much of a priority is it. here has been consensus behind plenty of bad theories…

Anything even remotely comparable (size, length of time, etc.) to what exists today regarding the effect of greenhouse gases on the climate?

Sure. I’ll give you one example: stomach ulcers. For a hundred years, it was “consensus” that stomach ulcers were caused by stress or spicy foods. Nothing cold be further from the truth. In truth, stomach ulcers are caused by a bacteria, H pylori. This was discovered in 1982. Even given this FACT, doctors still did not fully accept this until the mid 1990’s. Why?… It was due to the CONSENSUS diagnosis of the previous 100 years.

That is a very simple example of how completely and totally wrong a consensus of scientists have been IN OUR LIFETIME. And this was a SIMPLE example, verifiable by any stinking doctor who dared look through a microscope. It tells me that CONSENSUS is the realm of the lazy scientist , and those who don’t have the gonads to look critically at a problem and come to a conclusion.
