If Washington’s tone has changed, this is why

Here’s what President Obama’s job-approval numbers look like, from Sept. 1 to today, as compiled from major polls by RealClearPolitics:

—————————–

It’s also interesting to look at the polls individually. Here’s a list of every major survey conducted in the month of January on the question of job approval. As you’ll notice, one of the numbers is not like the others:

rcppolls

Every poll but one reports an eight-to-12-point differential between job approval and disapproval. I won’t mention the identity of the outlier.

And finally, we have this, which helps to explain why, despite passionate promises to the contrary, the Republicans will not be pushing the government into default or shutting down the government anytime soon:

This is great tripe Jay for your followers but didn’t obama have an even higher approval rating when he won the first time? It certainly bottomed out once the folks realized how pathetic the economy was under his pitiful leadership. It will take time but we’ll see him down in the 40’s then 30’s before he’s gone. It does help that the media is his biggest cheerleader though… But its horrendous and disingenuous to the American people….

“Paul, you left out a little of the laPierre quote (and, I don’t like him, not a NRA member). That was a ‘gotcha question from the start. The gun show loophole pertains to private individuals not doing back ground checks on gun sales. The vast majority of guns sold at gun shows are by dealers with federal firearm license and they complete background checks or risk that license.”

I left a lot out of that quote – which is why I provided a link. The point was LaPierre’s answer was intentionally misleading, regardless of the nature of the question.

I don’t see how “Committee Chairman Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.) reminded LaPierre that the NRA once supported checks with “no loopholes anywhere, for anyone.” So does the NRA favor closing the “gun-show loophole” that allows people to avoid background checks?

“We do not,” LaPierre replied.”

can be considered a ‘gotcha’ question. It’s a simple “you once supported it. Do you now?” LaPierre said ‘no’ then provided false justification.

The vast majority of gun show sellers may be dealers, but given (stat I heard this morning) 40 percent of all gun sales are done at shows, that’s still a significant number of people buying guns with no background check.

Frankly, LaPierre reminds me of a two-year-old in the midst of ‘the terrible two’s.” NO is his favorite word.

Difference is, two-year-olds don’t get a million bucks a year for saying “NO!”

Fred – you know, you can always water them down (with either straight water or stock) to get the consistency you’re happier with, if you don’t like “super thick” … I just find that it makes such a difference to the flavor!

I made a KILLER lazy pasta last night! While the pasta is cooking, grab your food processor and add 1 basket of cherry tomatoes, 4 sun-roasted tomatoes packed in olive oil, about 1 Tbsp of the tomato oil plus another Tbsp of regular oil, 2 cloves garlic and a handful of flat-leaf parsley – puree and taste for seasoning, then pour on your pasta. It’s really fresh and the heat of the pasta “cooks” it lightly … seriously NOM

@ mick

You present some valid points. Some are subject to dispute for sure – particularly the unemployment rate but I think they’re reasonable.

Your standards are bit low for me. But that’s what makes the world go ’round.

Bin Laden’s dead – no doubt about that.

Just curious, why is Obama’s signature legislative accomplishment – AHA – not included on your list?

And I have to admit, the extension of my kids medical coverage to age 27 was something I benefitted from.

Jay, exactly about the outlier in one of his chapters, but did you also read that drawing charts and using “best fit” methods for curves is fraught with difficulties when you use limited dats such as FOUR months.. But did you also read about the bevioral aspects of economixcs, which discusses the lemmings and that there is possibility that outliers have some real information did you read that Jay, I’m not hear to impress you, you already have a bias that cannot be disturbed, did you read THAT in the introduction, Disreagarding outliers as the basis of reducing noise is not he basis of his book, you may have read his book, but you ,in no way understood it. If you read it you would not have put up those charts in any way to have tried to show that DC has changed because of their “curves. Rubbish, your readers deserve more and you need to read and THINK about the book again. I know I will.

as for you Fred, a pathetic, angry man who chooses to read my words as an attack on your daughter, who deflects my criticism of you onto your daughter..you are a sad, pathetic individual…end of story

Between 25 and 70? Dang that’s a pretty good spread. Seems that any study worth it’s salt could narrow it down just a bit, huh? Sounds like someone was throwing darts…

LOL Keep, the man DO have a point. That’s one hell of a spread…………… I don’t think I take much stock in that study either. Sounds like “fuzzy math.”

Wayne LaPierre could care less about the 2nd Amendment.

It’s all about money for himself, the gun lobby, and gun makers.

He’s a phoney, just like some of these “Evangalists” we have that take your money. The Reverand Ike of gun nuts.

Fred, I believe the studies cited were from different time periods (1999 and 2007) and thus may reflect changes. Also there are significant blocks to gathering information. But obviously if there are problems with the studies, the claim that “a majority of sales at gun shows are by licensed gun dealers” also would have no substantiation.

Last point, if any sales are permitted without background checks, where would those most likely to have a problem because of their backgrounds, go to purchase guns?

Well DIA, I see you are deflecting from your claims. Sounds like you are just making it up and really get bent out of shape when shown to be wrong (again). Your response was rather buffoonish.

Bent out of shape? shown to be wrong (again).

Did I miss something?

So the idiots that reelected him like him – what a surprise. And they do not like Congress – what a surprise. They are just doing what they are told.

Check the latest economic statistics – pathetic, except for the propped up stock market – which benefits almost exclusively the “1%” they so despise.

IRS estimates the cheapest form of emperornerocare for those without employment coverage at $20,000 per year (that’s paid with after tax dollars, sports fans), so the vast hordes of unemployed will owe the penalty (excuse me, Chief Justice Roberts said it is actually a tax). Think they will pay it?

The carnage is about to make the jump to hyperspace.
