Here’s what President Obama’s job-approval numbers look like, from Sept. 1 to today, as compiled from major polls by RealClearPolitics:

—————————–
It’s also interesting to look at the polls individually. Here’s a list of every major survey conducted in the month of January on the question of job approval. As you’ll notice, one of the numbers is not like the others:

Every poll but one reports an eight-to-12-point differential between job approval and disapproval. I won’t mention the identity of the outlier.
And finally, we have this, which helps to explain why, despite passionate promises to the contrary, the Republicans will not be pushing the government into default or shutting down the government anytime soon:

The destabilization of the Middle East/N Africa being actively advanced by this administration is very dangerous and cynical.
Actively?
You really think the destabilization’s being pushed, that he didn’t jump out the window, so to speak?
I hate the kill list, I hate that Obama’s too much of a pu$$y to just executive-order the guys out of Gitmo and get them tried in criminal courts, etc., ok? But I don’t think I’m gonna die on your hill, sorry. (You can cue up the Phil Ochs if you like, maybe I’ll have it comin’.)

Considering the economy…
Considering your selective bouts of allegedly bipartisan poutrage, how do you feel about private companies directing the FBI’s antiterrorist activities to include targeting peaceful leafleteers and videographers?
Funny how a freedom-lover like you never seems to have the energy to say “boo” about that.

Stands, I don’t think the ultimate goal is destabilization of course. But yes, the goal is for certain remaining regimes to go the way of Gaddafi, e.g. Assad, while in other cases propping up existing regimes – Mali. The “junior” partners in the French are engaged here at the moment, but the UK and US are closely involved and ready to step in at any point, from what it appears.
Bottom line is that we are witnessing a whole new “scramble for Africa” as the major world powers try to shore up their struggling economies and their hegemony. It cannot end well.

It would be interesting to see what the poll numbers would be if obama was held to a similar standard as other presidents by the press. He has been protected to the point of embarrassment on economic issues and the majority of the population is dumbed down to believe what they are told by media favorable to obama because of his strict adherence to liberal ideology, regardless of the imact it has on our economic stability. George H.W. Bush received almost complete blame for the economy during his presidency and ultimately lost a 2nd term even though the economy at that time was better than it is now. Yet, obama continues to get a free pass from the press and a largely uninformed electorate is told that things are getting better when reality does not square with this retoric.

And deficit reduction will happen by design. The Republicans promised us, via their faith in the Heritage Club, that their tax cuts will pay for themselves just as soon as the unemployment rate settles in for the long haul at about 2.8%, give or take. So, all we have left to deal with is the borrowing used to pay for them thar wars and that prescription drug company benefit, etc. Nothing that a little sequester can’t handle.

Unfortunately for you, Alex, I have read Silver’s book. Among other things, he says that outliers such as the Fox poll are almost always exactly that — outliers, with not much if any value. The whole basis of his predictive method is basically to brush the outliers aside as false signals or noise, and go with the poll average instead.
In other words, if you’re going to come in here and impress us with your book learning, you’re going to have to do better than this.

These are salad days for liberals and other Obamaphiles. Bookman’s got the charts and figures to prove it.
Perhaps the faithful needed a bit of a boost after yesterday’s gloomy economic report.
Be afraid, you old white, male fogies. Be very afraid. Your only comfort now is your guns and religion (and Viagra). Thank God for Viagra.
Funny, in all the gloating, you still don’t see many comments that actually extoll BHO’s accomplishments, four years in. Besides getting even, that is to say.
Abosolution is rampant, however. Sure, things are still pretty crappy, but It’s not Obama’s fault (yet).
President Payback is certainly a likable man though, isn’t he? That is if he likes you. Are there any victims in the house?
America’s going through a period of extended adolescence. What appeals to us now is superficial charm. The last guy we want to listen to is the authority figure who brought us into this world and lectured us constantly on individual virtues like responsibility and industry. He tells us there is no guarantee in life. You gotta work for it.
This same guy has provided for us our whole life, but now we turn a deaf ear to him. He’s provided pretty well for our needs. He taught us how to stand on our own two feet.
He embarrasses us by his mere existence too. And face it, some of his ideas are old fashioned – heck maybe even wrong. But he’s a human being, not a Messiah – like….
But sooner or later, superficial charm wears off. The Obama magic will be revealed as just that – illusion.
Obama’s leadership – for all it’s supposed charm to many – isn’t sustainable. It’s built on revenge. It’s served to further polarize America. He’s a crusader – a social reformer. He’d rather eat one of John Boehner’s sweat socks than compromise. He’s burdened to some extent by the notion of his perceived moral superiority. You don’t compromise your morals.
You don’t pump blood into a flaccid economy with more regulations and taxes either, but I guess that’s beside the point. Another Viagra reference. I guess I know where my mind is today.
But like the cocky adolescent, sooner or later, America will have to come to the realization that the old farts who brought us into the world were right all along.
And Barack Obama? He’ll be guest starring on Love Boat, the Next Generation.

In an effort to preempt a new round of creative facts repeated by NRA supporters (a longshot hope, I know) I offer this (with credit to USinUK):
“Committee Chairman Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.) reminded LaPierre that the NRA once supported checks with “no loopholes anywhere, for anyone.” So does the NRA favor closing the “gun-show loophole” that allows people to avoid background checks?
“We do not,” LaPierre replied.
His reasoning, as always, is that existing gun laws aren’t being enforced — but he seems to have pulled the evidence out of his gun barrel. “Out of more than 76,000 firearms purchases supposedly denied by the federal instant check system, only 62 were referred for prosecution,” LaPierre declared in his opening statement.
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) looked up the actual statistic. “In 2012 more than 11,700 defendants were charged with federal gun crimes,” Whitehouse said, “a lot more than 62.”
LaPierre had been caught. “So those — the 62, senator, statistic, was for Chicago alone,” he clarified, a salient fact omitted from his original testimony.”

With regards to your comment earlier that “they have to pay for it,” well, yes, it comes out of their paycheck but the fact remains that they are not restrained by a fixed income such that any cost of living increases take a bigger bite out of their total budget when they have the ability to simply increase the pay to offset the increased expenditures. I only wish my pension worked that way. Then again, once I reach social security age, perhaps I will gain an appreciation of COLA.

Of course his approvals are high. he just won re-election and for some strange reason certain people have hope that he may know what he’s doing this time around. Of course informed people know better. he has been the most ineffective, inept, over his head leader America has ever seen…

sfd,
I worked for da man (aka one of those Fortune 500 companies) during a timeframe when corporate America was doing this transition thingy from defined pensions to the 401k with company contribution, when they feel like it, so when I retired, I got a pension (that does not get cost-of-living adjustments) and a 401k but with fewer years of accumulated contributions than the next wave of retirees should amass over their careers. Such is life. Anyway, I rolled over my 401k to an IRA and I actively manage it along with other holdings myself in an attempt to maintain a suitable monthly benefit going forward. Of course I am assuming that I will eventually get me some social security benefit equipped with COLA in the future as well but that’s a few more years off.

It would be a better use of your time to reserve the lower level sacarsm for those who think it’s useful or entertaining. I typically prefer to communicate with those who are more interested in debate rather than snarky, childish comments.

Really? This isn’t a snarky childish comment?
My point is that obama is held to a lower standard, which he routinely meets.
I think it is. Where is the “debatable” material there? That statement there is a 3 dollar way of saying ”Obama sucks,” not food for thought or debate…………..

Paul, you left out a little of the laPierre quote (and, I don’t like him, not a NRA member). That was a ‘gotcha question from the start. The gun show loophole pertains to private individuals not doing back ground checks on gun sales. The vast majority of guns sold at gun shows are by dealers with federal firearm license and they complete background checks or risk that license.

My own personal fcrewage was to switch gigs primarily BECAUSE da new “man” had a defined benefit program, only to pull one of those ever-popular switcheroos with lump-sum payouts to a “freedom-lover’s” 401k that turned out to be a f—load lower than initially promised.

DIA, where exactly do you get your information regarding sales at a gun show? If there is no background check, there is no record. So how are you “tracking” private sales to claim that the “majority” are by licensed dealers doing background checks.

Is it really? I’ve head wildly different percentages tossed around. (I suspect it’s a bit hard to nail down without some statistical projections since, after all, the private sales aren’t being monitored.)
And I do get that the licensed dealers aren’t the issue, here.

Oh and USinUK? They opened up a Penzey’s in Atlanta and I found a bunch of those weird European spice blends you use. I don’t know if you have ever heard of them before, but they are an online spice store (high end supposedly) that is opening up more and more brick and mortar stores. You should try them out if they ship across the pond. I know there are restrictions and many places can’t……..
