Why does GOP have an image as party of white males?
Maybe this could help explain it.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, here’s what Georgia looks like, broken down demographically:
Male, 48.9 percent
Female, 51.1 percent
White non-Hispanic, 55.5 percent
Black, 31 percent
Hispanic or Latino, 9.1 percent
Asian, 3.4 percent
Under age 40: 56.7 percent

This post began a few weeks ago, when I noticed that the Senate had named only one woman, Renee Unterman, as a committee chair in 2013. I immediately realized why that might be: Unterman is the sole Republican woman in the 56-seat chamber.

Assembly is mostly white, therefore something is wrong with it, especially if it is populated by white males. The Clayton County schoolboard is mostly black but we got no problem with that. I will answer it. It is the way the GOP probably wanted it-especially after the launch of Nixon’s Southern Strategy. Lee Atwater, who ran Reagan’s Southern Strategy, may have died almost 25 years ago and apologized for his tactics, but his (along with Richard Nixon’s) ghost is alive and well. Those welfare queen and Willie Horton commercials are still having an effect.
