Maybe this could help explain it.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, here’s what Georgia looks like, broken down demographically:
Male, 48.9 percent
Female, 51.1 percent
White non-Hispanic, 55.5 percent
Black, 31 percent
Hispanic or Latino, 9.1 percent
Asian, 3.4 percent
Under age 40: 56.7 percent
———————–
Here is what the Georgia Senate’s Republican majority caucus looks like:

This post began a few weeks ago, when I noticed that the Senate had named only one woman, Renee Unterman, as a committee chair in 2013. I immediately realized why that might be: Unterman is the sole Republican woman in the 56-seat chamber.
The gender numbers are a little better in the Georgia House, where 17 of 117 Republicans are women. But if that’s your bragging point …

“Why does GOP have an image as party of white males?”
Why does it matter what the color of their skin is or what gender they are?
Why is it that liberals always look at race, gender and sexual preferance? I thought they accepted everyone for who they are.

” I’m just interested in it and understanding why some believe as they do.”
You sound like josef in this respect. Thanks for the answer. I guess my assumption was wrong. I will not debate you about Biblical matters again – it seems pointless.
If you don’t believe in the Bible, then I can really see no reason to limit abortions at all. In a godless world, I really don’t know why we would hold on to many of the Judeo-Christian values and morals we have codified in law. From that vantage point, from a logical standpoint, I don’t see much point in traditional morality at all. It is – like humanity itself – nothing more than a sandcastle before the ocean of time. Nothing is consequential. Helping an old lady across the street is really, in the end, no different from axe-murdering her. All is meaningless, as Solomon writes in Ecclesiastes.

Seems to me this is an argument never to be won because it’s an emotional one. The left always reminds the right that we are racists because of the color of our sides groups (but only if the group is white). Seems to me what Jay is saying is that a white person is incapable of representing anyone other than another white person. I’m not sure how to be colorblind when we’re constantly being told that there has to be the right mix of colors to really be colorblind. If I mention the fact that the percentage of crime committed by blacks far exceeds their percentage of population, just a fact, all hell breaks out. The only facts here are the racial percentages of people in the state and the makeup of the GOP caucus, Everything else is just an emotional argument never to be won. The kind of argument democrats like.

Another meaningless column from a meaningless columnist in the AJC. A paper that used to boast of a very large subscription base and one that people actually read.
Since when does the color of one’s skin or their gender determine their qualifications to get elected to any office. After all, neither of those things are controlled by the individual – you are born with whatever you have.
A more meaningful column would be to discuss the voting records of all the state congress people and see if they truly reflect the will of the people and what is best for the state of Gerogia. I believe it was Martin Luther King, Jr. who said he had a dream that one day people would not be judged by the color of their skin but for some more meaningful reason, Dems just can’t get over that color thing, however.

Nah @josef, I wasn’t…and that really was my dilemma. I know the ADL is fairly diverse actually, so it didn’t do a good job of making that point that you would expect an organization named after the group of people to actually be run by and lobby for that group of people as in the case of GLAAD. Black Panthers, etc.. “LaRaza”, well…the Spanish name kinda gives it away.
Honestly, I had no idea that the “Jewish League” leaned in any particular direction…or even that it was “real”. It does though sound like it would in fact be made up of Jews (the “face” so to speak). Being a bit elementary to make the point to the other poster.

I have asked you twice as to why there is a problem? Conservative women make up over half of the people that put all these men in office and I have not seen to many of them losing any primary battle they are engaged in. The simple truth is that there are very few conservative women CHOOSE to run for office in the state so if they have not got a problem with placing mostly men in elected office then why should you?
The numbers earlier that states there are 27% Democrat women should be of more concern to you since it is their party that is so concerned about quotas. What is 27% anyway 2 or 3?
It appears to me that women period choose not to run for political office in Georgia.

Jay,
Why would any minority or poor person ever want to be labled as a conservative ? The libs are the ones who argue that the government should TAKE our money and give it to them. Yes I said THEM. It is a word in the English language that refers to other people, its not a racist word.
despite the fact that any minority would argue that you have to make every penny count, the liberal party has taught and argued that money is never ending and can be spent at a whelm as its taken from those who have, which is an oddity since we all want more of it. There is no way a person in need would ever vote to be ethical rather than frugal. Money is a desire, especially for the poor, there is NO WAY a con saying that they need to earn it will ever play as the libs are giving it to them.
but the biggest joke on the American people by libs is the fact that you have convinced folks that we are racists if we want our laws enforced. To pull off this liberal vote getter, the libs have actually won a argument which basically says that cons are racists for wanting enforcement of entry laws. How did ya’ll do that ?
but what i really am baffled by is how a party that is DOMINATED by rich white guys has placed itself as the party for the poor minority despite the fact it is itself 70% white males. The last time I checked neither me nor any of my friends have had to decide where to park our yacht in order to avoid taxes.
in general it is natural to promote your belief system, the fact is that the media is flooded by folks with liberal viewpoints, and you know that. If that is the case how in the hell can we expect liberal people to fairly balance a story. After years of nightly daily liberally slanted stories you have finally started to see a shift in thought.
try telling folks that apples are bad for you and see how many people buy them.
most African Americans would argue that abortion and gay marraige is wrong yet they support a party that thinks its ok. Based soley on the fact that the media and party liberals have told them for decades that they should fear all rich white people who have money. Actually you have managed to convince blacks that any conservative white person hates them.

It would seem you are confusing YOUR thoughts with those of all atheists, as if they all held to the same monolithic belief system. Thoughtful writers like Louise Antony know better than to make that claim:

No thanks…I don’t think you have much to tell me in this regard. I do admire your self valuation, though. If only you were a salesman…
As for the idea I have that there is little reason to be “moral” in a godless universe, it is not original with me. I can’t remember how or when the idea came to me, but it may have been from reading some of Dostoyevsky’s novels. In one of his letter he writes:
“Now assume there is no God or immortality of the soul. Now tell me, why should I live righteously and do good deeds if I am to die entirely on earth?…And if that is so, why shouldn’t I (as long as I can rely on my cleverness and agility to avoid being caught by the law) cut another man’s throat , rob, and steal…?”

Am I a repub because I’m white or am I white because I’m a republican, Classic mistake of cause and effect vs correlation. Hmmm. I suspect I’m republican because of my political philosophy which has nothing to do with my race, no race-party affiliation here, no cause and effect, hmmm.

Good job JB – typical liberal / progressive / racist pointing out the color of one’s skin. Sheesh, it’s the fricking libtards that are always talking / printing about the color of skin. I thought you compassionate peoples didn’t care about race / gender / sexual orientation / etc., etc., etc.. What a fricking hypocrite!
Where I come from, the best person for the job, regardless of the above mentioned.

Why does the Democratic party have the image of takers ?
That one is easy.
1: They are the party that gave us the “Great society” and they are the ones that fight today tooth and nail against personal responsibility.
2: The unions are Democrats and just look how they take.

You DO get what the video is right? It is not about or in the context of making fun of Asian people. Youtube because of copyright issues only has like only few second chops of the video. Hope you don’t get confused.
The link depicts a Black man in a KKK robe, who doesn’t know he is Black because he has never SEEN himself. He is blind. Furthermore, the Whites he is among do not know he is actually Black because they have always seen in under the hood and robe. Of course later on in his diatribe his hood comes off.
Again… just extending the dig at the earlier idea that it should be a big surprise to some when the faces that comprise an organization actually look like the group that the organization is named after or represents.

The GOP was the party of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass !!!
The Grand Old Party (GOP) is a vanilla organization that does not represent the demographics of the State of Georgia or the United States of America.
The GOP should work to be a more inclusive and rainbow party.
We urge Republicans and Democrats to work together for the good of all Americans.

How do you think that happens? Just by chance, you figure?
I think a near-solid bloc of white men in charge is just a natural occurrence of nature to them. Like air or gravity. Why would anyone question those?

“It’s actually odd. I just ask for testable evidence for religion and no one seems willing to admit it does not exist.”
I think you mean God (instead of “religion”). If you boil water every day and (without knowledge of the atomic activity involved) observe that steam arises on every occasion, without fail – is the perceived effect enough for you to posit a cause? Similarly, as I said earlier, is the immense complexity and orderliness of the universe and life on earth sufficient to posit a cause in the form of a creative intelligence (as opposed to highly improbable and random chance)? The ONLY reason someone like you rejects the most obvious and simplest explanation is because you reject the idea of a supreme being as presented in religious texts and, more significantly, are unable to make sense of the so-called problem of evil. To argue with a straight face that all of this is result of a vast number of highly improbable happy accidents is pure idiocy. It is, instead, an alternate explanation for the traditional one for reasons entirely unrelated to scientific evidence. It’s more like “I won’t believe God exists so how can I account for the universe and life?”
“And yet, these same people discuss it here AS THOUGH IT WERE A PROVEN FACT.”
Funny, that is the very same complaint I have regarding Darwin’s theory of evolution. Please let me know when you can provide me with “testable” proof of speciation. 150 years and none yet.

“Paul, do you understand what a proven fact is?
Do you think blind religious faith is fact?
As for scientists, their religious beliefs are faith based like everyone elses.
It’s actually odd. I just ask for testable evidence for religion and no one seems willing to admit it does not exist. And yet, these same people discuss it here AS THOUGH IT WERE A PROVEN FACT.”
You got all that from my posting “You know plenty of scientists holding prestigious positions count themselves as religious and believers in Deity, don’t you?”?
Then you ask if faith is fact? Ummm… no, indigo, it isn’t. But I think you knew that. Surprised you think someone like
I think josef had it right. Your posts on the topic are not about understanding. They’re just a launching pad for arguing. Surprised you seem to think people like Copernicus or Kepler don’t understand what a fact is.

“I fully agree, GT. I just find it interesting that in the minds of some, those “most qualified” just happen to be almost exclusively white and male, as reflected in the photos. How do you think that happens? Just by chance, you figure?”
Maybe it has a lot to do with being willing to run for office in the first place. Ever think of that (other than when Christie, Jindal and others balked at running for president in 2012)? I probably would be “qualified” to run but would never wish to in this “information age” (just like I would not want to be “famous” these days – just ask some actors how “fun” that can be). Maybe this is why we are getting a lot of odd candidates (and Obama with such a paper thin resume is one – Clinton was SO much more qualified than Obama and his record shows it) lately. Maybe only those with rhinoceros hides can realistically endure the gamut that is an election campaign.

You can’t resist because you know it’s true, angry little man. The only reason you push this garbage is to try to take the focus off the failures of Obama. You mocked Hermain Cain, Condi Rice, Allen West etc. Why, because you and your idiotic brethren can’t stand the fact that a lot of black people don’t like the Democrat Party.

“Seriously.
If these guys were somehow elected because of their gender or skin color, I think we Jay and the AJC should back those claims as well.”
OK, let’s see. The chances of any one Georgian being both white (.553 percent) and male (.489 percent) is 27 percent (.553 x .489).
So if 27 percent of Georgians — essentially one out of four — are white males, what are the odds that out of a random collection of 37 “well-qualified” Georgians in the Senate GOP caucus, 36 just by accident happen to be white males?
It’s astronomical. (If I recall my college stat course correctly, the odds are something in the neighborhood of .27 to the 25th power. Again, not exact, based on memory).
So there are two possible explanations for those hugely ridiculous odds coming true:
1.) White males are far, far more qualified than anybody else, so much better qualified that they can overcome those astonishing odds.
2.) White males have significant advantages that others don’t have.
As usual, I am open to other explanations as well.

I knew I should have left earlier, now I’m agreeing with TC. Ahhhhhhgggggggggg……
Men generally are more self-confident than women. Often men tell us “be more confident!” assuming we’re not at the proper (male) level of self-confidence, which is considered normal and healthy. Looking at the dumb things y’all do, I’m not sure I agree.
