Why does GOP have an image as party of white males?

Maybe this could help explain it.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, here’s what Georgia looks like, broken down demographically:

Male, 48.9 percent
Female, 51.1 percent
White non-Hispanic, 55.5 percent
Black, 31 percent
Hispanic or Latino, 9.1 percent
Asian, 3.4 percent
Under age 40: 56.7 percent

Here is what the Georgia Senate’s Republican majority caucus looks like:

gopsenate1
gopsenate2

This post began a few weeks ago, when I noticed that the Senate had named only one woman, Renee Unterman, as a committee chair in 2013. I immediately realized why that might be: Unterman is the sole Republican woman in the 56-seat chamber.

The gender numbers are a little better in the Georgia House, where 17 of 117 Republicans are women. But if that’s your bragging point …

Because of course when discussing legislation and writing laws, the best thing you can do is make sure that we have cheerleaders, sports stars, doctors, etc. writing them?

The laws might make more sense but they would keep all the lawyers tied up litigating them.

“It’s also strange to see you complain that I have somehow implied that you are sexist or racist. If, as you say, you “never contributed money to the GOP or attended any of their meetings,” why would you feel that way?”

Because (as you probably know) I have some strong convictions about certain things and unfortunately (despite Johns Adam’s dire warning about the dangers of a two party system), the GOP is my only real choice at the present time. In other words, if there were only Democratic or liberal candidates running for office, I could not in good conscience exercise my right to vote. I mean, I really think it is wrong to permit women to abort their unborn AFTER first deciding to engage in an act they know full well could lead to pregnancy and not taking the appropriate safety measures to avoid pregnancy. If you decide to drive drunk, can you choose after you’ve hit someone to “abort” the “accident”?

“It’s as if you and others believe that pretty remarkable facts such as these should not be mentioned, that it’s somehow unfair to even note what becomes so obvious just by looking at those pictures.”

I think you are being disingenuous here (as in you column by NOT also acknowledging a similar “problem” with the Obama administration – one that even Luckovich has highlighted or the fact that Democratic representation is also badly skewed – especially in terms of its African-American composition). You surely know that it has become something of a “meme” in the media that the GOP is “racist” and “sexist”. Do I REALLY need to go search for video clips of talking heads in various media saying as much to prove that to you? IF that is true of the GOP, then why is it NOT true of Obama? But if it is NOT true, but just the way things have thus far shaken out (like over 90% of blacks voting Democratic, which is itself a bizarre statistic given how many blacks are fairly religious), then why would you at least not throw in some disclaimers to indicate you are not mindlessly parroting a liberal meme?

Look at RG3 and the black ESPN analyst who said, “He is a cornball brother and he is not one of us.” all because he was reported as being a Republican. The same goes for women, but it is done with the creative marketing of this imaginary “War on Women”. Look what was done to Palin? I’m not a fan of hers but she was torn apart mainly for being a Republican. Here we have women like Pelosi, Feinstein and Boxer who all show their stupidity on a daily basis yet they fall under the safety of the Democrat umbrella. Republicans are plenty to blame for being too stupid to figure it out, but Democrats have been a major player in created the percentages. “Why does GOP have an image as party of white males?”

a) Gerrymandering. (which gives districts 60% of any vote that they want)
b) against immigration reform (which is a loser with minorities)
c) against women having rights (which is a loser with women)
d) describing minorities as (insert thesaurus terms here for “moocher”)
e) against gay marriage (which is a loser with the younger voters)

I mean, just THREE very simple things will turn the GOP to the middle and get voters.

1) Immigration reform (Hey, Reagan did it, we can too!)
2) Women’s rights (Hey, abortions should be safe, legal and rare! and/or Restrict government interference in daily life)
3) Gay marriage (Hey, The government can legally have two people linked, not matter the gender. But we won’t stop the church from having any restrictions.)

I mean, these are basically Republican ideologies (less government, more freedom) that the Republicans just somehow can’t get themselves to get over.

Now, the other two are tougher and need a little more work. (Gerrymandering and being ignorant on those who need / use government assistance.)

You’re wrong. I don’t dislike my State Senator because he’s white. I dislike him because he’s a lying little sleazoid who never managed to succeed in business amid all his job hopping (that he sells as proof of a work ethic), then he actually settled a lawsuit with his previous employer after he was caught red-handed hacking into their email system after “leaving” the company, in order to under-bid their business; is a massive POSER — showing up to every single civic organization and pretending to be all gung-ho — contributing absolutely zip to any of them, but touting his membership and commitment to each as “proof” that he cares about something besides his own political ambition. I met him and spoke with him personally. He’s a liar and a fake, and plays on mean-spirited put-downs of the less fortunate in order to garner donations from like-minded mcmansion dwellers. His big contribution to last year’s session was to sponsor a bill that already freaking FAILED to save Florida any money after being implemented, but which plays on the fear that somehow the poor people are ruining the rich people’s lives. He’s completely and utterly putrid.

“Seriously, people. An attitude of “That picture is an embarrassment and as Republicans, we have to do everything in our power to change it or we’ll be in deep political trouble” would be far more productive than the denials and excuse-making we’re seeing.”

WRONG. Don’t vote for them if you don’t like what they stand for, Jay, but get off your high horse of telling people how they’re supposed to think(which means “like you”). You’re not qualified to do that.

“Why? No long term memory? I have already stated to you what exceptions I think should be allowed. I can only conclude that you either 1) have a memory problem or 2) you are little more than a liberal shrill presenting yourself under a thin veneer of rationality.”

First, lots of first-timers read thru this, hear the same blanket statements so it’s nice to provide them a very brief background.

Second, as you’d already offered exceptions, to then make a blanket statement (” I mean, I really think it is wrong to permit women to abort their unborn AFTER first deciding to engage in an act they know full well could lead to pregnancy and not taking the appropriate safety measures to avoid pregnancy.”) indicated you’d changed your mind or were less than candid in your earlier response.

Now I suppose you’ll say you are for something (exceptions) which you feel are wrong?

I see those rabbit holes appearing….

Wow. This brainiac actually either thinks this is true or that he can tell a bald faced lie like this and no one will notice………….

Yea, that’s what Georgia Republicans think. Thank God that great Republican, Abraham Lincoln, crushed the south. Thank God he burned Atlanta down. Georgia Republicans hate the rebel flag. Love, love, love Lincoln.

Oh…so you mean if Cain were running for Chambliss’ seat, you would have no objection to his candidacy? Is that what you mean, Sherlock? Because, some of the people I mentioned (I guess I need to point it out to you) have served in the US Congress.

Well,,, since Republicans now think Marco Rubio is the Party’s Savior with Hispanics, I would agree with you and say qualifications really do not mean much to Republicans.

Because they have a college degree.

Boy those black voters must be the dumbest voters in the history of all the elections ever held in human society, man! The loyalty they show the Democratic party, despite this obvious wisdom you’re just presented us with. How’d they ever miss it!!!!?? Something must not be computing here, I just don’t see how they could have missed this obvious truth that’s literally just right under their noses! Man, somebody really ought to go to them and clue them in to this amazing and obviously very simple insight!

No, what I meant was, when did any of those people you cited run for president like Herman Cain and have a significant percentage of Democrats think they really, really were going to become the next president?

Why? If women want to run for office then they will run for office. I belong to a local county Republican party and we have plenty of women show up (more women the men) each and every month to our meetings. I have not heard one word from them about not enough women serving in office. My House of Reps member is a woman and my local BOE rep is a woman. When they run they usually win. If women choose not to run then it is what it is.

Does it really matter what race, gender, creed, party affiliation etc. they are? They’s all thieves, scoundrels and charlatans or else they wouldn’t be there in the first place, just my disenchanted opinion. Now, if we want to discuss which demographic has the most spectacular/most successful ones…line ‘em up by net worth, in dollars and cents, that is…

Can you describe why you think that? I mentioned it because White Male Republicans are constantly trying to restrict a women’s right to an abortion (rights on their own bodies).

Do you think that women should not have rights to their own bodies?

And Jay, if we Georgia “cons” had Female, Hispanic and Black conservatives to vote for and they were ideologically in sync with our economical and sociological beliefs, then we would have no hesitancy in voting for them. Unlike you liberals who demonize any of the above demographics who dare to stray from you fold and call themselves conservative. Yea, the progressive cause is just crammed full of people who are willing to embrace those minority demographics which they have historically taken for granted (such as women, hipanics and blacks) and that dare go against their progressive agenda. Just as you did with Justice Clarence Thomas and Condeleeza Rice, right? The left only accepts those among the minorities that walk lockstep with their elitist liberal cause and that makes them even more dispiccable.

Total and complete nonsense Samantha.

1. The South used to be in the bag for the democratic party.
2. That all changed when LBJ ( A democrat ) signed the civil rights bill.

The South changed to Republican real quick after that one.

Lincoln would most definitely not be a Republican today.

Nor would Reagan.

They wouldn’t even know this party. But by all means keep doubling down on crazy.
