Granny G,
I have to admit, back in my Navy days, I was against women on combat vessels. My reasoning was that in combat on a ship, crew have to work hard and fast to save a ship from sinking if damaged during a battle. The ordinance t5hrown at Naval Ships these days are big enough that only one or two hits will sink it. Given that, wounded crew members have to necessarily be left where they lay until the ship is saved. There is very little time in which to do that. I was afraid that if a wounded crew member was a woman, American men would stop and try to render aide that they would not do for male crew members. Taking that time might doom the ship and all would be lost. I don’t think that would be a problem now, but back then I was young and thought all you girls needed protection from the mean old world…of course my wife has cured me of that…I need her more than she needs me.

I honestly don’t know. Not being a smart aleck, I can’t judge what’s in a person’s heart. I thought her response was flippant (”…or just some people out for a walk one night and decided to kill a few Americans…” or something to that effect) and obviously angry. It certainly wasn’t a well thought out response. One that will be used against her in the future. I’d be real disappointed to know that she simply didn’t care.

If they can pass the physical requirements (so that they don’t become a liability to their fellow soldiers), and if they can take being raped by the enemy when captured on the front line… go for it.
I think few women will actually make it to the front lines carrying 100 lbs of gear on a 130 lb frame. If women can pass the physical tests, then they ought to be allowed. Its all about promotion, and I don’t think you can remove the possibility of promotion without giving them the opportunity to succeed.

Granny Godzilla,
Some good points Granny. But in the Bible I think the one case where a spouse can divorce is in the case of adultery. And also the vibe I get from the feminists over at NOW is that if you’re a woman who tolerates that kind of crap that you’re just a doormat and not representative of what a modern, independent woman should be.

If women can successfully be police officers and fire fighters then I believe they can succeed in combat.
Psychological and physical testing will be of paramount importance as there are many, both men and women, who have no business every being in a military combat unit.

My concern about women (and homosexuals) in combat roles, is that, you know, things happen. And kissy kissy relationships might lead to favoritism and poor judgement in the field.
The ladies can certainly push the buttons of modern warfare as well as the men and they deserve the credit for combat service.

“What do you think about women police officers and fire fighters?”
indigo,
I’ve never seen a female firefighter in my life. I’m sure they exist. I’ve just never seen one. Something about dragging a 150lb dummy(no, I’m not referring to any of the libs) a certain distance that keeps most of them from qualifying. I got a question for you also. Your house goes up in flames and you collapse from smoke inhalation before you can get out. You’re lying there on the floor and you see a fireman coming to grab you and carry you out. Do you want that fireman to be a 125 lb woman or a 200lb man trying to carry you out?
I’ve no problem with women being police officers either since most people automatically obey a cops orders whether its man or woman. But even then in a one on one confrontation with a felon who has nothing to lose its pretty obvious that before the situation escalates and she can reach for her gun that she is at a tremendous physical disadvantage. Do you deny this?
And do you remember a few years ago that felon down at the Atlanta courthouse who was left in a room with a female deputy who was armed? So what happened? He beat the hell out of her, took her gun, and then proceeded to go through the courthouse and shot several people. Remember that??? Is there any question at all that a burly male cop would have fared a far better chance than this petite grandmother?

Or….. Maybe she took her vows seriously enough to understand that she was with Bill to the end after she said “I do”. The part of the marriage vows that says, “from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part” doesn’t come with an asterisk or clause for any exceptions. Now that it has been determined that women can do any job that men and do then it has to be time for the progressives to also come together in the name of equal rights and decide that men can raise children just as well as women. It is time to go and change the family court laws to reflect this and give custody of the children (from divorce or born out of wedlock) to men in equal number as to women. At the very least progressives should agree that it is in the best interest of children to have a 50/50 relationship with both parents. What say you progressives?

Doom — “You’re lying there on the floor and you see a fireman coming to grab you and carry you out. Do you want that fireman to be a 125 lb woman or a 200lb man trying to carry you out?”
This is my only issue with women in combat. I’m 6′5″, and in the Army I weighed between 200-220#. During my entire service in uniform, I only met *one* female soldier who I believe could have dragged my wounded carcass back the the battalion aid station, and she wasn’t interested in being infantry.
That said, I’ve got no issue with gender when it comes to combat arms. If there are female applicants who can meet the physical standards (without them having been lowered), then all I can say is ‘drive on.’

What say you progressives?
.

I think you’ll find progressives have no problem with that. None at all.
That’s a decision that should not be based on gender but on ability.

My wife, her brother, and sister were raised by her dad. He got custody of them back in the 80s, I think. Family courts give custody to the best parent, and that’s not always the mother.
The best choice is 80% plus of the time custody goes to the mother in divorce cases and the father has absolutely no rights in out of wedlock births. This system can not be maintained if we now wants total equal rights.

Here are great reasons “it matters”;
It matters since administration sent that woman out to 5 talks shows to pitch “video” crap. Because Libyan leader at the time said it was a planned attack. Because obama had been on the campaign trail saying Al Queda was no longer a threat since he got OBL. Because of BO’s war on Quadaffi (sp?) and the ignorance of the fact that a leadership vacuum would exist as a risk afterward. Because of credibility with us given timing and election year.

Well, maybe the fathers need better legal representation in court or something. You just can’t say, “Hey, I’m a man” and expect to be father of the year. You’ve gotta show yourself to be parenting material. In the traditional family, the mother has always been the nurturer and the father was the bread winner. You can’t get mad at a system that’s too slow to adapt to changing society. Most people can’t adapt to how quickly roles and such are changing, so I wouldn’t expect the court system to be on the cutting edge.
Personally, I’ve known more than a few single fathers raising kids, so I don’t quite have the same outlook on this as you do. Most of what I’ve seen is that the custodial parent is usually the more nurturing of the two and the bread winner is there to support the family.

Don’t know about Hillary, I’m not sure she has the “head” for it; I’m sure Bill does, however.
Now seriously, I’ve been there (Nam 1968 607MP Company). At the time I was 6′5″ 235 Lbs. As a “grunt” i.e. first line solder one of the things that is paramount is confidence in your fellow solder. If you are wounded in combat he has to be able to assist you (and you him) in getting you out of harms way, including being able to carry/drag you to a place of aid. The physical training of basic training weeded out those who could not meet the test. Can a 5′4″ 110 lb woman do that? Not any that I know.
Number 2 – I worked my last 24 years for the USAF as a civilian Crew Commander and I can tell you that putting young men and women of teens to twenties in close combat situations with all the hormones involved made the job 10 times worst that when we had an all male combat arm.
Let me give you just one of the examples. We has a Female Capt.(married with children) in our unit who was having a torrid affair with one of our married Tech sergeants. Everyone knew of the affair, they even sent explicit love letters through official e-mail (really stupid!). The Sgt’s wife stormed into our Col.’s office one day threatening to call in the JA office if he didn’t make them stop. Talk about a bind, he had told both to knock off the affair or be court marshaled. That is the kind of thing that happens with a mixed force.
We also had a really cute little 5′ airman assigned to my crew. I mean drop dead gorgeous, and she knew it and played it, even in uniform. The guys in my unit were all tripping over their +++++ to get her to sleep with them rather that paying attention to their assigned jobs. I finally had to get the col to transfer her elsewhere to get my guys back thinking about doing their jobs!
Can women do most of the jobs in the modern military? yes.
Does a mixed force make doing the job (as a commander) harder? yes

As to fighting females, if one is versed in Aikido, they know how to use the bigger man’s weight, effort, and strength against him. There are women who practice jujitsu as well, and with the proper leverage on a lock or hold, no brute strength is going to help you. If one has an edged weapon and is well versed in fighting styles, you can use a person’s attacks against them and slice them to pieces. I can’t recall the name of the fighting style, but I’ve had a crash course in it, and my female sparring partner, who was well trained, would have sliced me up in seconds if we were really fighting.
I’m not going to claim that every female can do these things, but there are some females who have the mental and physical capacity to learn techniques that compliment their sizes and use them to their advantage.

Straight men, it’s long since time y’all stood up and fought back. Come divorce time and you might as well just bend over, ’cause you’re gonna get scr*wed. That’s the way the system operates.
And while I’ve never had to go through the straight folks custody crap, I’ve been down the road of going through the custody hearings, and I don’t care who you are, that’s no picnic knowing that the minutest and often most insignificant details of your life are going to come under scrutiny by who knows who with their own agenda…no fun…

I agree to a point about the fatherless or motherless children. Overall though, I think that’s nothing more than an excuse to accept less than ideal behavior from our children. I was raised by a single mother, but I also had grandparents, aunts, and uncles in my life that more than made up for not having a father around. When you have a good “father figure”, you don’t need a biological father.
————————–
td: If he is not married to the women then he does not have the right to put his name on the BC until he spends thousands of dollars to get into a court and have a judge rule that he is the father.
When did all of that come about? You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars for such a thing. If the mother and father are in it together, the father doesn’t have to be married to the mother to sign the birth certificate. If he acknowledges his paternity, his name can be put on there at birth. After the certificiate has been issued and filed, then it costs money and time to have it changed.

I will say one thing about fighting females and then I gotta run out to a couple of different appointments. I do wonder if they literally teach female air marshalls and other women to go straight for those balls. The reason is I have a 5 year old niece who literally has me in fear sometimes when I’m home. Reason being on more than one occasion she has jumped on me and accidentally driven a knee straight into the boys. I figure that if a 5 year old 40 lber or whatever she weighs can incapacitate a grown man for a minute or 2 then it would be easy to train a 100 lb female to drive those fists or knees straight into the boys. That’s the only way I can see a female consistently keeping the upper hand on a man for a full minute or several minutes. God knows if it works for a 5 year old it would work better for a grown woman than any judo or other mma type skills.

So does the military actually still use bayonets? Some Marines were quick to defend the weapon on Twitter. But as the Wall Street Journal notes, “few Marines or soldiers ever use a bayonet and service members on patrol do not equip their rifles with bayonets.” According to the Washington Post, the U.S. Army discontinued bayonet instruction during basic training in 2010.
Indeed, hand-to-hand combat situations are fairly rare in today’s conflicts — and when they do happen they seldom involve a bayonet. Sgt. Cliff Woolridge, who received the Navy Cross earlier this year for killing a Taliban militant in hand-to-hand combat, did so, as the Journal noted, not with a bayonet but with the stock of an AK-47 assault rifle. And in 2010, a Nepalese Gurkha soldier fought off more than a dozen Afghan insurgents simultaneously, brandishing his machine gun tripod after running out of ammunition.
Class dismissed.

Yes, but on the battlefield you are not paired by size, you are assigned by squad. If you will check the qualification in basic training now has been “eased” so that women will not be rejected. The same thing holds true for the physical qualifications for firefighters. I’m sorry but it makes it more dangerous for everyone else, and, speaking from a Viet Nam experience, the one imperative of a combat solder is to come back alive.

The best way to judge is to look at survivors from the wars/upheaval in Africa/S. America where they have child soldiers who are forced to kill their whole families in order to save themselves. Some turn into sociopaths, some don’t.
Another way to look at it is to look at the women from various wars who have been raped and brutalized by the “winning side” when they hit that woman’s town/village. Some women turned to drugs to dull the pain of the memory, and some turned their pain into action and are organizing to try to stop things like this.
I mean, let’s get real here — women in combat is NOT a new thing. In the history of the world nor in the history of the US. There have been lots of women, on the front lines, in various wars; they survived and lived to tell their stories.
I think some are just making MORE of this then they need to. IMO.

There are women in the military now, and I’m sure they’ve prepared themselves for the possibility that their cycle is coming and have brought the necessary supplies for it.
If she’s dropped off in the bush, she should be prepared — she should expect her “friend” to come a-calling and bring the necessary supplies.
And if she’s a woman who doesn’t have a “regular cycle” or if she doesn’t want a period for months at a time, there are shots and/or pills to combat that. no pun intended.

DDR: Even though I grew up with sisters, and have been married for 20 years there are STILL some things I never delved too deeply in lol. I understand in a normal role there would be no problems, nor in anything like a woman combat pilot (I THINK there are studies that show women have faster reflexes and can handle higher G’s and make better combat pilots but I’m not sure). I also know women, like men are very athletic or not according to the person and don’t have any doubt’s about them being able to perform the physical or emotional aspect of combat any better or worse than an equal random sample of men.
I just wonder about extreme harsh conditions that special ops unit’s undergo. I don’t want to be graphic, but don’t you have to change them things occasionally? Sometimes we went days without a break or an opportunity to do something like that. Or is it not such a big health issue as I was lead to believe? THAT would be my only concern. Women soldiers in the Revolutionary war:
DEBORAH SAMSON**
In October of 1778 Deborah Samson of Plympton, Massachusetts disguised herself as a young man and presented herself to the American army as a willing volunter to oppose the common enemy. She enlisted for the whole term of the war as Robert Shirtliffe and served in the company of Captain Nathan Thayer of Medway, Massachusetts.
For three years she served in various duties and was wounded twice – the first time by a sword cut on the side of the head and four months later she was shot through the shoulder.
There is the little known story of Rachel and Grace Martin who disguised themselves as men and assailed a British courier and his guards. They took his important dispatches, which they speedily forwarded to General Greene. Then they released the two officers who didn’t even know that they were women.

Thanks Keep. As it’s nothing I ever had to deal with, I had no clue. Since it seems like it’s NOT the problem I had been lead in earlier life to believe, I don’t see what the big deal is. If a woman can meet the SAME qualifications of a combat arms job as a man, and she wants to serve in that manner, then let her do it.
I’m sure they can also wizz in a bottle in the same Foxhole as the guys so again there is no problem for when you are under fire and can’t get out of the hole. No one wants to lay in a patch of piss so a bottle is a great alternative.

Unfortunately, what we were doing DDR you couldn’t do that. Heat signatures are detectable and even if they weren’t we were rather short on water.
But I have my answer lol. People (not necessarily you) can be SO defensive about a simple question. I guess it’s because so few people actually ask questions for knowledge anymore. They are trying to ask leading questions and score mythical points or something.
I am as guilty as anyone else. I will sometimes give a smart ass answer to a legitimate question because I think someone is trying to “set up” a scenario………

I saw the “harsh” conditions you REMF ass women had in Desert Storm. Wah Wah…..Hell, Women weren’t even allowed to pull guard duty at Jump School………….. or in the rear.
Fred, if you feel cheated because some REMF’s had showers or whatever, I’m not sure what that has to do with anything, besides your wah, wah, wahing that you didn’t have a shower or a hot meal while somebody else did. I guess you could call me a REMF because I wasn’t combat arms (duh) but our unit did not lug around showers and field kitchens and that sort of crap. Often we split off into parts and were parceled out to other units so whatever they got, I got. Quite often that was MRE’s and a cot that strongly resembled a poncho liner anyplace I wouldn’t get run over by a vehicle.
If someone wouldn’t allow females to pull guard duty, why is that the women’s fault? It sounds like some a-hole officer’s fault.
This is an example of the circular reasoning that woman can’t hack it. Men in charge decide women can’t do certain things, then the lower-ranking men all complain because the women are “getting over.” I’m sorry if your sexist pig commanders made you pull extra duty but you really should take it up with them. It sure as hell isn’t MY fault.

most famous woman pirates were:
Anne Bonny (1719-1720) Female Pirate of the Caribbean
Mary Read – Famous English Female Pirate of the Caribbean
Lady Killigrew (1530-1570)
Jacquotte Delahaye – Female Pirate of the Caribbean

And for shaving? Some guys liked the little battery-operated Norelco jobbies, but I thought they got gunked up too quickly with sweat, dirt and camo. A totally stupid argument to have about women in combat, their hormones , cycles and all that nonsense. As one who has trained women in a bootcamp setting, they are well capable. What’s so difficult about having sanitary products in their gear should they need it just like ammo or water? It’s no more inconvenient than having to take a dump. You DO have to wipe your ass right? If you don’t because the scene is hot then so be it. Who cares? I can tell you first hand that when the situation dictates military women work just as hard physically and give less of a damn about the hygiene stuff as the men do.

When I was deployed in Desert Storm, we had Woman Marines in my unit. We were maybe 50 miles behind the front line. We had a detachment that was to forward deploy up to the front line. The WM’s all were griping that they couldn’t go. Our C.O. got permission to send them and asked for volunteers. Not a single WM volunteered.

There has been no progress in the middle east, which is not saying much except things are probably worse now between the Israel and the Palestinians. Things with Russia are definitely worse, where they have even shut down US adoptions. Iran is progressing with uranium enrichment, and North Korea is planning on conducting nuclear testing. Hadn’t seen this addressed yet so I’ll offer it. Was listening to the news and it turns out General Dempsey, Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, otherwise known as the President’s senior military advisor, said they’d been grappling with an terrible number of rapes and sexual harassment incidents. One of the things they’ve found is that they’d allowed to develop an attitude of ‘warrior’ (combat arms) vs ‘everybody else.,’ which was not only bad for unit cohesion, but combined with with the policy of excluding women from the combat professions, directly contributed to the culture that condoned harassment and rape. One reason for dropping the exclusions was to assist in putting an end to the criminal conduct.
Personally, I’ll give the opinion of the serving Chairman more weight than the opinions of people who served 40 years ago in a different world who seem to offer up the same old objections for nearly every proposed change that’s come along.

I think we all can envision scenarios where hardships in a combat zone occur, and wonder whether women possess the physical skill to perform basic skills.
For example, a true story!
Jammie was cleaning the officer latrines just outside Saigon back in the late sixties, achieving this duty based on his competence scores. He tripped on his shovel, hit his head on the toilet seat, then passed out with his head under the sludge.
Prompt action was needed to save him from drowning. A brave young PFC, upon hearing a gurgling sound, rushed into action and was able pull Jammie’s face out of the muck, thereby saving him to clean latrines another day.
Would a women have the strength to accomplish such an heroic act?
I’m kinda thinking Jammie’s stench would have caused them to remember they were late for PT.

When you talk about taking the word of people like Dempsey I have to assume you were not in the military. Anyone who makes a promotion beyond 2 star General is, by definition a politician. To reach the higher level of rank they have to have political sponsors and they function in a political atmosphere. They are so far removed from to front line troop and what he does its ridiculous. Also, any company level combat experience they have is in our time frame (VietNam).
Josef,
Read the stories of Soviet Female troops from the German side. They were routinely turned over to the SS and executed, or worse. What do you think al qaeda would do with female POWs.
For those of you who don’t think physical standards would be reduced because of females just look at what was done to basic training standards when women were allowed to serve and train in regular units. The day of “Boots on the ground” is not and never will be a thing of the past.

Ghaddafi is yet another in the sequence of overthrows by our (and our extended) government of peaceful countries who were governed by non-secular governments and replaced with secular governments and chaos.
This is nothing new: it started with EYE-rack, continuing with Afghanistan, then Egypt, and, finally, Libya. This is simply the U.S./Israeli policy of eliminating any real opposition to Israeli policies.

This is all about “Equality on the Battlefield” vs. “Effectiveness on the Battlefield”.
As a result, soldiers will die who did not have to ………… but liberals really don’t care about that.
Can a woman shoot a rifle and be in the infantry? Sure! That’s not the point. The point is can she do it as well as a man and the answer is flat no. It’s a question of satisfactory vs. best.
For example ………. the NVA and V.C. were darn good fighters but they were no match for soldiers or Marines in hand to hand combat. In that kind of combat size does matter (just ask Notre Dame what they thought of Alabama).
A perfect example is sports …………. and you don’t see women in the NFL. Why not have equality?
Two women on each team at all times …………. the game would still be “equal” but not the same caliber of play.
Well, combat is more deadly than any sport and foolish people have decided we don’t want the best units that can be trained and put in the field.
Sad but true ……………….

Jackie

@Recon
I agree with the fact that if they can not meet the physical requirements of the job they are seeking, they do not belong.
However, if all the current requirements are met by the women, there is no problem with putting them in a combat unit. I do not believe women have enough physical stamina to be members of special forces.
To add to that argument, women have been pilots for many years without the standards being lower for them to compete.

On face value I’m not concerned with what Pantynetta and Dempsey Dumpsey did with women in combat. The fact is that 99.9% would not make it into the infantry or special operations as combatants anyway. Beyond that what I am concerned about is all of this social re-engineering, multiple combat tours with nothing to show for it after all these years of loss. All of this because of politics not unlike Vietnam that will seriously degrade our military at the worst of times. Few know of the tremendous rebuilding of our military post Vietnam and in every aspect that occurred during a time frame far more stable than what we face today. The truth is, Snider’s tale of Nugent’s draft dodging comes from Nugent himself, who relayed the story to High Times in 1977, telling them he got a 30-day notice ahead of a physical exam and launched into action.
“Well, on that day I ceased cleansing my body,” Nugent said. “No more brushing my teeth, no more washing my hair, no baths, no soap, no water. Thirty days of debris build. I stopped shavin’ and I was 18, had a little scraggly beard, really looked like a hippie. I had long hair, and it started gettin’ kinky, matted up. Then two weeks before, I stopped eating any food with nutritional value. I just had chips, Pepsi, beer-stuff I never touched-buttered poop, little jars of Polish sausages, and I’d drink the syrup, I was this side of death. Then a week before, I stopped going to the bathroom. I did it in my pants. Poop, piss the whole shot. My pants got crusted up.”

They want to re-establish military bases that were shut down by the revolutions and to install client regimes that will subordinate the country’s wealth and labor to imperialist corporate interests. All else is lies and deception.”
– Moamar Gaddafi
[T]he gold bullion held by the Libyan Central Bank (March 2011) was among the 25 largest reserves in the world, as reported by the Financial Times, citing the International Monetary Fund. This provided Libya a critical lifeline after billions of Libya’s assets were seized by the United States and the 27 member states of the European Union.
Many believe the NATO-led invasion of Libya was/is about oil and a vast wealth of other natural resources. Yet another critical element that few are aware of is the fact that Gaddafi had planned to introduce a single African currency made from gold. [Of this proposed African currency] Dr James Thring stated, “It’s one of these things that you have to plan almost in secret, because as soon as you say you’re going to change over from the dollar to something else, you’re going to be targeted … There were two conferences on this, in 1986 and 2000, organized by Gaddafi. … Most countries in Africa were keen.” This would have eradicated the US Dollar and Euro as trade currencies for Africa.

The company’s website claimed there were more than 1,000 Solyndra systems installed around the world, representing 100 megawatts of power.

Liberalism in the United States is a broad political philosophy centered on the unalienable rights of the individual.
The fundamental liberal ideals of freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion for all belief systems, and the separation of church and state, right to due process and equality under the law are widely accepted as a common foundation across the spectrum of liberal thought.
The main focus of modern liberalism in the United States includes issues such as voting rights for all adult citizens, equal rights, protection of the environment, and the provision by the government of social services, such as: equal education opportunities, access to health care, transportation infrastructure, basic food for the hungry and basic shelter for the homeless.
The origins of American liberalism lie in the political ideals of The Enlightenment. The Constitution of the United States of 1787 set up the first modern republic, with sovereignty in the people

Since the failed presidential election, the GOP has been grappling with identifying exactly what it is the party needs to work on most — diversity, social issues, and Latino outreach, or election mechanics and a flawed Romney candidacy/campaign? — or some combination thereof, and all of the issues are on the table for discussion at the Republican National Committee’s winter meeting in North Carolina. Keynote speaker and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, however, is going for a more overarching message in his address tonight: It’s time to “recalibrate the compass of conservatism,” stop focusing so much on Washington-centric politics, and start going for a message of inclusion and economic growth…

False. Contrary to President Clinton’s claims, there is no “gun show loophole.” All commercial arms dealers at gun shows must run background checks, and the only people exempt from them are the small number of non-commercial sellers. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, at most 2 percent of guns used by criminals are purchased at gun shows, and most of those were purchased legally by people who passed background checks.

U.S. federal law requires persons engaged in interstate firearm commerce, or those who are “engaged in the business” of dealing firearms, to hold a Federal Firearms License and perform background checks through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System maintained by the FBI prior to transferring a firearm. Under the terms of the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986, however, individuals “not engaged in the business” of dealing firearms, or who only make “occasional” sales within their state of residence, are under no requirement to conduct background checks on purchasers or maintain records of sale (although even private sellers are forbidden under federal law from selling firearms to persons they have reason to believe are felons or otherwise prohibited from purchasing firearms).
Those seeking to close the “Gun Show Loophole” argue that it provides convicted felons and other prohibited purchasers (i.e., domestic abusers, substance abusers, those who have been adjudicated as “mental defectives,” etc.) with opportunities to evade background checks, as they can easily buy firearms from private sellers with no accountability or oversight.
Use of the “Gun Show Loophole” has been advocated by terrorists. In the summer of 2011, Adam Gadahn declared that “America is absolutely awash with easily obtainable firearms.” He also incorrectly claimed that, “You can go down to a gun show at the local convention center and come away with a fully automatic assault rifle, without a background check, and most likely without having to show an identification card,” Gadahn urged Western extremists to follow this path. Subsequent news analysis indicated that individuals could not actually buy a fully automatic assault rifle at gun shows, although purchases of semi-automatic handguns and extended magazines remain legal without a criminal background check.[10][11]
The term “Gun Show Loophole” has been contentious with gun rights advocates, however. They claim there is no “loophole,” only a long-standing tradition of free commerce between private parties that heretofore has not been restricted in the context of secondary, intrastate firearm sales.[12][13] Furthermore, they argue that the term “Gun Show Loophole” is misleading, as private firearm sellers are not required to perform background checks regardless of location—whether they are at a gun show, a flea market, their home, or anywhere else. They also challenge federal jurisdiction in intrastate transactions between private parties, which they argue exceeds the federal power created by the Commerce Clause.[14]
But hey, with Scummy supporting your posts, you had to know it was not factual and bordered on stupidity.

Thulsa Doom – I agree, 99% of guns sold at a “gun show” are by federally registered dealers, thus a background check. To date, there has not been one verifiable “random act of violence” from a gun purchased legally at a gun show.

Background is that a few years ago there was a “rumor” that teflon or moly coated bullets could penetrate body armor. The media and the gun grabbers siezed on this “fact” and termed such bullets “cop killer bullets” and sought to ban the manufacture and sale of them. The fact is that coating bullets has nothing to do with penetrating body armor. The NRA fought hard against the idiots and as a result shooters can still buy teflon and moly coated bullets, that extend the life of gun barrels.

“I agree, 99% of guns sold at a “gun show” are by federally registered dealers, thus a background check.”
Where does angry little elf get his 40% figure?- liberal fantasyland?
One thing that’s kind of interesting that the kooks tend to offer up is the idea that at these gun shows that some of the people selling the guns are private people that are there to sell 1 or 2 guns and hence don’t need to register as licensed firearms dealers- hence the loopholes.
But here is why and how they are so woefully ignorant. To have a booth at one of these shows or at any type of convention costs money- usually something like $100 to set up their booth there.
Whatever the registration and booth fee why in the hell would any sane person want to pay an expensive booth fee to sell one or just a couple of guns? The cost of the booth itself eats away at your profit- much cheaper ways to sell a gun I’m sure. Like liberal thinking it makes no sense.

The NRA has deliberately and methodically opposed background checks, and pursues this tactic both before and after mass shootings. In April, the NRA endorsed a Colorado bill that repealed state-run background checks on firearms. When the group opposed a bill in Delaware that would require checks on sales at gun shows, it conspiratorially floated the “true intent of this legislation is to move towards an ultimate ban on all private sales.” Far from being open to background checks at gun shows, as Keene suggested, the NRA would raise alarm whenever states sought to end this loophole.
Still, the gun show loophole is not the whole story. Thanks to the NRA, at least 11 states automatically restore ex-felons’ access to guns once they served their term, and many states allow violent felons to petition for firearms.
Of course, if as the clownish cons suggest, there are no “gun show loopholes” they should not mind if a law closes a “non-existent” loophole that 90+% of Americans want closed.

What is a “gun show loophole”? Do you mean the fact that an individual can sale a gun to another individual in the parking lot at a gun show?
You have the facts wrong 90% of Americans think background checks should be made. There is no polling data to the question as to should individuals have to run background checks on other individuals if they sell them a gun. godless, you are the one claiming it does not exist. Most Americans understand it does. But since you claim it does not, why do you care if a loophole you claim does not exist is closed.
90% of Americans believe in a sky fairy. 50% believe UFOs are aliens. 65% believe in ghosts. 51% of voters voted for Barack Obama. My duty is to try and educate and keep people from passing stupid laws that restrict freedom for no good reason.

Yes it can be done without taking the rights away from law abiding citizens or “infringing” (undue burdensome legislation) on citizens rights to keep and bear arms. It is called enforcement of current laws on the books for criminals caught with a gun or the mentally ill that should not own a gun. I can agree with making the penalties so harsh on these violators that they would run if they saw a gun.

Women , the vast majority, 99%, do not have the physical strength required to be in front line combat positions! They have to be able to move heavy equipment, and, they have to be able to carry a fellow soldier to safety! MOST CANNOT AND THEREFORE THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IN THESE POSITIONS! And even the thought of considering them for special forces like Delta, or, SEALS is absurd!

Politically Incorrect Comment. Proceed at Your Own Risk:
No question that women can fight, and fight well, in combat – they have proven that they can. As a matter of biological fact, women, by and large, do not have the same brute strength that men have. Or course, there are exceptions to the rule. But, on the whole, men are typically physically stronger than women and can over power them in physical contests — such as hand to hand combat. This is why that in all sports, amateur, professional, and even the politically correct to a “T” Olympics, there are stll men’s and women’s divisions in most competitions.
But despite all of the above, advances in modern weapons technology, advances in physical training, and specifically tailored combat assignments that are not totally dependent on brute strength can help to alleviate the risks . . . to the women.
Here’s the tough part (big gulp, and mea culpa), women in combat fighting next to men endanger men who fight next to them. There, I’ve said it. Yes, I must be a huge male chauvenist pig from Hell, totally dedicated to holding women back, cheating them out of their rightful pay for equal work, demeaning them and sexually harrassing them at every opportunity, and helping the Pub/Cons wage their secret war on women — even if it hurts my three daughters. As my wife sometimes says . . . “fine” . . . uh-oh.
Time for complete and total blasphemy. May NOW forgive me for what I am about to say. Men and women have different ‘hard wiring” that is not based on “learned behavior.” Okay, I must also be a religious nut too. Men do things that women don’t do, and women do things that men don’t do, and it because of their gender, sexual instincts, sexualty, and there hard wired reproductive sexual behavior. I know, I’m going to Hell for this, but nothing I have ever seen in my long life has refuted this. Men in combat will do things for women in severe danger that they will not do for other men. They will take their eye off of the ball, so to speak, to protect the women fighting around them. When women are killed, they will stop and weep over them, because they failed to protect them. Male soldiers don’t want to do that, they are trained not to do it, and they know it puts their own lives in danger . . . but for reasons they may not totally understand, they ignore their training and will to live, and they do. It goes way back to our creation and primeval insticnts and primeval times, our hard wiring — men providing protection, hunting, gathering and providing, and women buildiing the nest, birthing, rearing, and protecting the young and the species — both genders willing to sacrifice their lives.
That is why women should not be side to side with men in combat.

I would want Hillary in my foxhole as a human shield or to push in front of me when the action got heated. Seriously, how much more stupid can PC liberals be? Men have 3 times the physical strength of women and 20% faster reaction time on average. Tell me I’m bigoted if you want, but I don’t see any female NBA or NFL players. Call it sexist if you want, but a woman has no chance in close quarters hand-to-hand combat or a hot fire fight. Camraderie and bonding are also indispensible to military platoons and I promise that women will never be accepted into a male fraternity, which ultimately weakens the unit.

Why feel guilty or apologize for stating the facts as they are guitarman? Men and women are NOT created the same way and there are biological reasons for that which can’t be argued. Women are designed by nature to value safety and protection and survival so that they can rear offspring and maximize their survival. Estrogen, progesterone, oxytocin, and other hormones make sure of that. Men are hard-wired for risk-taking and dominant behaviors that ensure their genes are passed on at any cost. Testosterone makes sure this happens. Women don’t belong on the front line of a war anymore than men belong being midwives.

Whenever I get salmon to grill I get extra and put it on the egg after I take the other off, I add more wood chips and lower the heat and smoke it for salmon patties……….. yum. All I know about women in combat is, it’s got to be better than what we’ve had. Which is, they always before put a woman in uniform so they could put some poor man that was happy to be serving 100 miles from the fighting right on the front lines to get his a$$ shot off. And if he survived that they sent him home so he could marry some woman that would make him wish he had got his a$$ shot off instead.

U.S. Catholic bishops review lawsuit saying fetuses not people

DENVER — Three Colorado bishops said on Thursday they will review a Catholic Church hospital’s defense of a lawsuit that argues fetuses do not have legal status – apparently contradicting the Church’s teaching on life issues.
The case stems from a malpractice and wrongful death lawsuit filed by Jeremy Stodghill in the 2006 death of his seven-month pregnant wife Lori at a Catholic hospital in Canon City, Colorado. Her twin fetuses also died.
Stodghill filed the suit against Colorado-based Catholic Health Initiatives, which operates hospitals in 14 states, claiming physicians made no effort to save the fetuses by performing a cesarean section.
In its defense, counsel for the hospital said that under Colorado law, a fetus is not a person and that the twins likely would not have survived even with an emergency C-section.
In a letter, Denver Archbishop Samuel Aquila, Colorado Springs Bishop Michael Sheridan and Pueblo Bishop Fernando Isern said that Catholic institutions had “a duty to protect and foster human life”, which they said begins at conception.
“No Catholic institution may legitimately work to undermine fundamental human dignity,” the statement said.
The bishops said that they would carry out a “full review of this litigation and of the policies and practices … to ensure fidelity and faithful witness to the teachings of the Catholic Church.”
Two lower courts sided with the hospital group, and Stodghill has appealed to the Colorado Supreme Court, which has not yet decided if it will hear the case.
