Curious,
Yes, but on the battlefield you are not paired by size, you are assigned by squad. If you will check the qualification in basic training now has been “eased” so that women will not be rejected. The same thing holds true for the physical qualifications for firefighters. I’m sorry but it makes it more dangerous for everyone else, and, speaking from a Viet Nam experience, the one imperative of a combat solder is to come back alive.

then it would be easy to train a 100 lb female to drive those fists or knees straight into the boys.
My goodness, we’re sending a bunch of vulnerable men out onto the battlefield. One nut$hot and they’re incapable of fighting. I propose we restrict combat arms to women who can kick men in the b@lls with 80% accuracy or above!
I know I’d sure love to see that in Afghanistan. Put the highlights on the news every evening and we might be there for the next hundred years.

The ladies I know never went for the “boys” when we were training together. Some of the stuff they showed me left me awestruck. We taught them some of the techniques we use that could be adapted to their environment, and they taught us some things that we may be able to adapt. Let’s just say that I will never get the itch to act a fool on a flight, especially if I think any one of them is sitting inside that plane with me.

td my point exactly! When you need a serial killer or a school yard nut case that overdosed on violent movies you don’t call Katie Curic or Hillary, you call a white gun carrying man.
I do wonder as we see more and more woman going into combat if we will see more going to prison or showing up in school yards after they flipped their wigs. So far that hasn’t happen but who knows. Violent woman may be the new thing.

Might want to double check that on Jessica Lynch.
I did. What I read said that her biographer pressured her into including the passages about being raped in her biography. I didn’t search everywhere, but I couldn’t find any instances of her saying that herself. I recall the reporter who was assaulted, but to her credit/discredit, she’s not a trained instrument of government “compliance”.

I do wonder as we see more and more woman going into combat if we will see more going to prison or showing up in school yards after they flipped their wigs. So far that hasn’t happen but who knows. Violent woman may be the new thing.
The best way to judge is to look at survivors from the wars/upheaval in Africa/S. America where they have child soldiers who are forced to kill their whole families in order to save themselves. Some turn into sociopaths, some don’t.
Another way to look at it is to look at the women from various wars who have been raped and brutalized by the “winning side” when they hit that woman’s town/village. Some women turned to drugs to dull the pain of the memory, and some turned their pain into action and are organizing to try to stop things like this.
I mean, let’s get real here — women in combat is NOT a new thing. In the history of the world nor in the history of the US. There have been lots of women, on the front lines, in various wars; they survived and lived to tell their stories.
I think some are just making MORE of this then they need to. IMO.

Fred, most women’s cycles are expected by that woman and she knows if/when she’ll be “on”.
There are women in the military now, and I’m sure they’ve prepared themselves for the possibility that their cycle is coming and have brought the necessary supplies for it.
If she’s dropped off in the bush, she should be prepared — she should expect her “friend” to come a-calling and bring the necessary supplies.
And if she’s a woman who doesn’t have a “regular cycle” or if she doesn’t want a period for months at a time, there are shots and/or pills to combat that. no pun intended.
Truce?

Hillary Clinton successfully faces down angry senators, prompting Leon Panetta to realize that women can be good in combat.
I have no problem with women in combat unless their single mothers. THAT’S a no-go for me.
From what I saw of Hillary’s protestation, it was nothing more than the typical female ploy. What man, when trying to solve a problem, hasn’t seen a woman come back with “I don’t wanna talk about it?” That’s essentially what Hillary did….avoid the unpleasantness of conflict….a cut and run, if you will.

Doom — “Might want to double check that on Jessica Lynch. I thought it was reported a couple different ways that she was raped. Not sure.”
My recollection is that she wasn’t raped and that her captors actually took her to a hospital. As I recall, she had several broken bones that weren’t well-set, so she was in a lot of pain and took a long time to recover even after being MEDEVACed back home.
I believe there’s footage of her rescue — from the hospital — floating about on the web. Surely someone can find it.

DDR: Even though I grew up with sisters, and have been married for 20 years there are STILL some things I never delved too deeply in lol. I understand in a normal role there would be no problems, nor in anything like a woman combat pilot (I THINK there are studies that show women have faster reflexes and can handle higher G’s and make better combat pilots but I’m not sure). I also know women, like men are very athletic or not according to the person and don’t have any doubt’s about them being able to perform the physical or emotional aspect of combat any better or worse than an equal random sample of men.
I just wonder about extreme harsh conditions that special ops unit’s undergo. I don’t want to be graphic, but don’t you have to change them things occasionally? Sometimes we went days without a break or an opportunity to do something like that. Or is it not such a big health issue as I was lead to believe? THAT would be my only concern. In 99% or military jobs, even combat arms, that wouldn’t be an issue. But in Spec ops? I think it might be.

Women soldiers in the Revolutionary war:
DEBORAH SAMSON**
In October of 1778 Deborah Samson of Plympton, Massachusetts disguised herself as a young man and presented herself to the American army as a willing volunter to oppose the common enemy. She enlisted for the whole term of the war as Robert Shirtliffe and served in the company of Captain Nathan Thayer of Medway, Massachusetts.
For three years she served in various duties and was wounded twice – the first time by a sword cut on the side of the head and four months later she was shot through the shoulder.
There is the little known story of Rachel and Grace Martin who disguised themselves as men and assailed a British courier and his guards. They took his important dispatches, which they speedily forwarded to General Greene. Then they released the two officers who didn’t even know that they were women.

Fred, if you feel cheated because some REMF’s had showers or whatever, I’m not sure what that has to do with anything, besides your wah, wah, wahing that you didn’t have a shower or a hot meal while somebody else did. I guess you could call me a REMF because I wasn’t combat arms (duh) but our unit did not lug around showers and field kitchens and that sort of crap. Often we split off into parts and were parceled out to other units so whatever they got, I got. Quite often that was MRE’s and a cot that strongly resembled a poncho liner anyplace I wouldn’t get run over by a vehicle.
If someone wouldn’t allow females to pull guard duty, why is that the women’s fault? It sounds like some a-hole officer’s fault.
This is an example of the circular reasoning that woman can’t hack it. Men in charge decide women can’t do certain things, then the lower-ranking men all complain because the women are “getting over.” I’m sorry if your sexist pig commanders made you pull extra duty but you really should take it up with them. It sure as hell isn’t MY fault.

Hot water? Hell to the naw. Wet wipes, AKA ‘hoar bath.’
And for shaving? Some guys liked the little battery-operated Norelco jobbies, but I thought they got gunked up too quickly with sweat, dirt and camo. So I used disposable razors and a little bit of Vaseline Intensive Care lotion. A totally stupid argument to have about women in combat, their hormones , cycles and all that nonsense. As one who has trained women in a bootcamp setting, they are well capable. What’s so difficult about having sanitary products in their gear should they need it just like ammo or water? It’s no more inconvenient than having to take a dump. You DO have to wipe your ass right? If you don’t because the scene is hot then so be it. Who cares? I can tell you first hand that when the situation dictates military women work just as hard physically and give less of a damn about the hygiene stuff as the men do.

In the Soviet forces women were “preferred” for the tanks by Zhukov…women also were noted for the excellence as snipers…they were, it seems, considered far more focused and, in both cases, better “shots…”
All told, some 400,000 women saw front line duty in the war..,

Hot water? Hell to the naw. Wet wipes, AKA ‘hoar bath.’
Hmmm you Fred, Jam and Jackie are supplying me with a lot of “real world” information. I’m trying to write a short story.
Its gonna be about a futuristic kill-bot female who was born and bred as an Army assassin. I figure I can get a few lines down and then get my friend who’s an amateur cartoonist to draw it for me.
You guys have given me LOTS of background for the plot! Thanks!

Ohyeah? Well, I was Signal Corps, and we slept on a piece of plywood flooring studded with nails that was bolted to the top of the genny set that ran the commo rig. You couldn’t get any sleep because of the noise, the vibration, the diesel fumes and all the little nails poking into ya, but it was all we had!
And we LIKED IT!

It was just last year that Rick Santorum said, “I do have concerns about women in front line combat… people naturally may do things that may not be in the interests of the mission because of other types of emotions that are involved.”
I think Fred is a good demonstration why men shouldn’t be in combat…they’re too emotional. Maybe it’s their hormone cycles or something.

If not so pathetic and ODS demented their replies would be a real stitch.

Sounds good to me. Perhaps then the Falcons could get to the superbowl and win and the Mets might once again have a “miracle season.”…. and just for JamVet — Yankees would suck no matter what!

No. She’d be a good fighter, but you couldn’t believe a damn thing she says. And if she were in command, and the position got overrun and you had to retreat…she’d either blame it on everybody else, or just say “What difference does it make?”

JHM,
Has all the answers like the Benghazi attack was not a well coordinated terrorist attack it just somehow got out of control while the peaceful libyan muslims were demonstrating against an anti-muslim video. He knows this to be true because Jay said it was true soon after this incident occurred. JHM hasn’t heard that even Hilliary Clinton admits that the original story was incorrect and it was indeed a well planned and executed military style attack. Catherine Herridge of Fox News reported same the day following the attack, Why do I need to provide you sources when the facts show her reporting was correct. Geez I’d give you guys an A for persistence but it would be over ridden by an F for ignorance.

It’s a shame when an American military veteran like Recon has to stoop to lying, but there it is. Recon knows I’ve said no such thing.
“He knows this to be true because Jay said it was true soon after this incident occurred.”
Once again, it’s a shame when an American military veteran like Recon has to stoop to lying, but there it is. Recon knows I’ve said no such thing.
“JHM hasn’t heard that even Hilliary Clinton admits that the original story was incorrect and it was indeed a well planned and executed military style attack.”
What do you think you know about what I’ve heard, Champ? You got you mindreading software up and running? (laughing)
“Catherine Herridge of Fox News reported same the day following the attack”
Which doesn’t make her reportage any more accurate. Anyone can *guess.* Once again, who’s her “unimpeachable source?” Or do you just automatically believe whatever she says because she’s on FNC?
“Why do I need to provide you sources when the facts show her reporting was correct.”
Because even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.
“Geez I’d give you guys an A for persistence but it would be over ridden by an F for ignorance.”
That’s okay. I’m going to give you an A in Dishonesty, an A in Swallowing Propaganda and an A in Useful Tool-ism. Won’t your family be proud of you?
You know, Recon, that source of hers just might make us shut up. Then again, he might be as unreliable as “Curveball” was for the Bush Administration. You sure you want to buy what a mystery man says?

That’s a tough one. I’d like to hear the opinion of combat veteran officers about that, not social engineers. But they would have be retired since O’bozo would have them in charge of the PX in Hoboken if they dared refute The One.
