Mitch McConnell: “King” Obama out to grab yer guns!

mitch-mcconnell-ap-7-3-12

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, who faces re-election in 2014, is doing his part to model the new spirit of moderation and bipartisan compromise that the GOP hopes to demonstrate to voters in the days ahead.

Here’s how he begins a new email message sent out to supporters:

Dear Patriot,

You and I are literally surrounded.

The gun-grabbers in the Senate are about to launch an all-out-assault on the Second Amendment. On your rights.

On your freedom.

Just the other night, President Obama urged them to act. And then he went one step further, spelling out the 23 different Executive Orders he will take to get your guns.

My friend, our freedom is under direct assault.

From those who want take your guns. From those who want to shred our Constitution, and as our good friend Rand Paul from Kentucky says, from those who want to be King.

Let me tell you, Mitch McConnell is ready to lead the fight to protect your rights.

Will you stand with Mitch today? …

Below I’ve included the full list of 23 executive actions issued by the gun-grabbing “King Obama” regarding firearms. I confess to being curious: When McConnell describes these actions as steps that “(Obama) will take to get your guns,” which specific actions does he mean?

Is it the effort to keep identify people who are too crazy to buy guns? Is it the “national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign”? Or the order to trace all weapons recovered in the commission of a crime? The initiative to train first-responders on how to respond to a school shooting?

Every American voter ought to read McConnell’s letter (full text here), read the list of executive actions issued by Obama, and then decide for himself or herself which party represents the sane, rational way forward for the people of this nation.

1.) Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.

2.) Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.

3.) Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.

4.) Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.

5.) Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.

6.) Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.

7.) Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.

8.) Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).

9.) Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.

10.) Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.

11.) Nominate an ATF director.

12.) Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.

13.) Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.

14.) Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.

15.) Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.

16.) Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.

17.) Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.

18.) Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.

19.) Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.

20.) Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.

21.) Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.

22.) Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.

23.) Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

Think it, issue it, and results will come I suppose. Never worked in the past but why not? Prescription drugs and cars kill more folks than guns but it is not the issue de jure to keep the liberal engine going (including silly little blogs).

I do love the CDC mandate- kind of like the Cruise movie the Minority Report.

How about you have to have a license and you cannot sell the gun without a license- we do the same with cars. Or, let’s light our hair on fair and run around in circles waiting for edicts- sorry- executive orders.

The real issue is guns couple with 22 ounce sodas- no it is WTC mosques- no it is voter registration- no it is global warming- no it is illegal immigration caused by American drug users- no it is Wall Street shoving down mortgages on poor people- no it is lack of affordable healthcare- solve these last 47 things and then we will be fine!

JOE SCARBOROUGH (R): “William F. Buckley in the 1960s at some point had to start defining the boundaries of conservatism. He went after the John Birch Society, Ayn Rand, George Wallace. That has to happen again with this party because it’s getting smaller and smaller. In this debate, we actually have conservative thinkers, talking about ronald reagan being a RINO — a Republican in name only, because he supported an assault weapons ban. They keep pushing themselves closer and closer to the cliff. But I just have to say one other really important point, because I made a mistake over the past month talking about how Republicans have also won a majority in the House. As this article I was referencing mentioned, we actually got a minority of votes nationwide in House races. It was just gerrymandering from 2010 that gave us the majority.”

Gun ownership is a community problem and should be discussed and solved by neighbors. It is no longer acceptable to say “my gun is none of your business”. As my neighbor I have a right to know if you are a registered gun owner especially if we live in a community with a high population density (townhouses, Condo, single family homes, apartments, etc.).

Today, communities have home owners associations (HOA) and everyone must follow the rules for pets, trash pick-up, keeping your grass cut, rules for using the community facilities, how many parking spaces allowed, etc. Communities across the USA are faced with choices to solve the gun ownership problem.

Yes, we all agree that a background check and a mental health screening are a good step in the right direction but the American People will have to make a choice.

1. Do we act like adults and take responsibility for our actions and live with our neighbors in peace and harmony by opening a meaningful dialogue on guns in our community and their impact on our quality of life?

2. Today, we publish names and addresses of child molestors, rapist and other people who use “fear” as their weapon of choice. Is it time for all registered gun owners to be listed in a national register just like we do to protect our children from predators?

If gun owners have nothing to “fear” they should embrace the opportunity to explain to their neighbors why they feel compelled to own guns in our neighborhood. We have a choice.

It is time for adults to act like adults for the sake of their family, friends and neighbors…Your gun is my business…Act responsible

However, I will meet you somewhere in the middle, and gladly acknowledge that we would likely need more than just some sensible gun regulation reform to bring our murder rates into parity with nations similar to ours. Income inequality, a piss-poor social safety net, etc., almost certainly play major roles in violent crime rates as well.

And even after Heller the Dem controlled government of IL basically said no one could have a concealed weapons permit and they were slapped down by an appeals court so what did they do then? Ignore the court. This is what progressives really mean by “reasonable” gun control. Obama is following the incremental model as set out in such progressive states as IL.

I think Charlie summed up O’bozo’s gun grabbing intentions quite well:

“Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.), speaking on “MSNBC Live” on Jan. 16 said that “some of the southern areas have cultures that we have to overcome” when it comes to gun control.”

O’bozo hates the south, as do the majority of ilks on this blog. RC is in Bookman’s HOF. Jay uses the slang pronoun “yer” instead of “your” in his headline, clearly denigrating the locals.

But that’s okay. Southerners have thick skins.

How is anything that Obama proposed would have stopped the killing in Newtown?

Why must every single measure ONLY address what happened in Newtown?

td @ 11.39, I do not claim to know the ins and outs of IL gun legislation so I have no idea if your categorization is accurate. If you really do want me to learn, a cite would be nice. If not, all I can say is that if the law is really that restrictive, the NRA and others have plenty of folks who should be able to make a case before the SCOTUS.

@Oppressed Suth’ner – “Who is MLK replacing the confederate generals with on the side of Stone Mountain?”

Dr. King’s image is emerging and replacing all the losing confederate generals depicted on Stone Mountain. You and your family should plan a trip to Washington, D.C. and see the King Memorial on the National Mall. The poeple of Georgia should be really proud of the King Memorial.

So I guess that Mr. Obama and all the other Liberals are not trying to outlaw guns. That we poor people misunderstood when your King said that he wanted to outlaw sporting arms and limit capacity of clips…..So sorry for ever doubting that this administration would ever crush peoples liberty and force people into servitude to the government. The time is now for people to organize and prepare for 2014. We can and will take back our country from this group of socialist, freedom grabbing, hordes. Vote
